New Cover
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

YAY!!!!! My newest cover for the upcoming book The Upside of Karma. What'dya think?
I like it very much. Usually, I go for the artsy covers, meaning not photos, but art. When I received this for approval, I really was pleasantly surprised.

This novel is the continuing story of Angelica Kane and her coven friends with lots more romance. For those of you who read Every Witch Way but Dead things heat up between Detective Sean Bennette and Angelica...or Angel, as Sean likes to call her. Circumstances throw them together again and the sexual tension builds...and builds...whew!

It's a lot of fun and I hope you'll look for it when it's released.

Summer
Current mood: artistic
Category: Life

Wow. I cannot believe it's mid-August already. The weather has been a bit wacky in the north east, Long Island in particular. July's weather was like August and August is like May.

The flowers in my garden--the ones still alive--are doing beautifully. The others...well...my husband made a fatal error with the weed killer. He thought he was spraying for mosquitoes. You know, the ole..."but honey I thought the W was an M." My black-eyed-susans really have black eyes and burned leaves. I don't even want to get started on my butterfly bush. Oh well.

Before you know it fall will knocking on our doors, the nights feel cooler. Soon my youngest and I will be baking our caramel apple cookies--yum! This weekend is the annual Polish festival, which is always a blast.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Coming in Waves
Current mood: melancholy
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Book two in the Lamai Vampire series in finished, that is until my editor gets to it. My goal was to finish it by the end of June--done. What I didn't plan on was number three chomping at my brain. Working out in my garden, my mind was racing with ideas. This character needs to tell his story!

"So much for taking a break, Mom," my son says as I race upstairs to my laptop.

"Oh well, you gotta strike while the iron is hot and this iron's on fire!"

But this is therapy for me now. My middle son is moving to Florida to go to school, and I'm mildly freaking out. He's leaving this weekend...Momma's trying real hard to let the little birdies fly. It's not easy--that's an understatement. He was just 5 years old yesterday, wasn't he?

All you mommas out there...they really do grow up in the blink of an eye. Cherish every moment, I did, and they still grew up too fast!

But as my wise niece told me--"If you've raised a child that feels confident enough to go out on his own, then you've done a great job."

*Sigh*

Heat Wave
Current mood: blessed
Category: Life

Summer has arrived in the northeast! Temperatures in the 90's and turbulent storms due to the heat hit us Sunday. As long as no one gets hurt, I love a good thunder and lightning storm, and boy was I treated to one the other day.

This morning the weather is gorgeous. I sit and look out my bedroom window and see Mother Nature in all her glory. The beautiful bay is like glass, I hear the distant moan of a boat upon the water. My garden is popping with color. Even our first water lily bloomed in the pond. Crickets are chirping and songbirds sing, even a few crows are adding their melody. Kids are still in school, so it's nice and peaceful. Later in the day there will be more activity at the park by the beach 300 feet from our home. I am blessed.

I am half way through with the first round of edits for Blood Destiny, one more and it's off to my editor. I want to get it finished so I can enjoy the weather and ponder my next book.

I shall return when the muses allow.

Brightest Blessings!

Working
Current mood: grateful
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I apologize for being otherwise occupied. I try and check in as often as possible, but sometimes before I know it the day is gone. This book is a joy to work on! It is sexy and vampy with all kinds of twists. The characters have much to say and they are keeping me very busy, indeed.

I appreciate all the comments that still arrive and even though I may not get back to you all, know you're in my thoughts. I will return!

Brightest Blessings!

What I wrote to CBS
Current mood: blah
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I'm certain you've received similar requests to re-think your decision concerning the fate of Moonlight. I have no idea what goes into the process of deciding whether you keep a show or not. Ratings, I would guess. I don't think this season should be a barometer due to the writer's strike. That had to have a tremendous impact on the show. It did, after all, win the People's Choice award. That has to count for something. As the commercial states,'One less.' I'll be one less person watching CBS if Moonlight is gone. People need fantasy in their life, not shows about the Military, or inane comedies.

Of course as a writer of paranormal fiction I have a sort of vested interest in seeing the show succeed. But I've always had a 'thing' for vamps starting with Bela Lugosi and although I  initially cringed when I heard Tom Cruise was going to play Lestat, he did a great job. I just hate to see another vamp bite the dust, especially such cuties as Mick St. John and Josef.

Moonlight Fans!
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

"The Ex List" is replacing the vampire detective guy on "Moonlight."

I have no clue what the Ex-List is about--other than it's replacing one of my favorite shows.

Speaking thereof, you scary sci-fi fans obsessed with "Moonlight" -- don't bother shipping tons of garlic to CBS suits. Because they've wised up after the "Jericho" peanut-blitz experience and know that tons of peanuts do not translate to additional viewers -- just cheap "Big Brother" props.

I'm very disappointed in the decision to cancel Moonlight. I thought the show had great potential. It appealed to both men and women. Who knows if writing campaigns work; it bought Jericho another season, though it too is cancelled.

The powers that rule TV land know they're going to hear from the fans of Moonlight, and I will be one of them.

If you're a fan, show your support!

Kind words...
Current mood: blessed
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

From a reader:

How great to discover an original gem of a book from a new author.
Ms. Donna has a way with words...her characters come to life, the scenes and events are vivid..but that also means that the suspence and sense of danger are also.. be forewarned!
I really like the information that begins each chapter and that is shared along the way.
This world of magick, spells and good versus evil draws you in.
Let's hope it isn't too long until the next book from this author.

6 months 'til The Upside of Karma

Thanks- to all those that left reviews.

Muses
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

The muses have kept me quite productive and for that, I am grateful. Along with Every Witch Way but Dead, The Upside of Karma is due out this fall and early 2009 Blood Pool will be released.
Blood Pool is a paranormal story in a different vein. Yes, vein as in vamps. And Shape-Shifters, Fae, Wizards and Witches. The fourth novel and my current WIP is a sort of prequel to Blood Pool. There will be more on Blood Pool, as the release date gets closer, for now The Upside of Karma continues with the story of Angelica Kane and the Sisters of the Sea coven. It has been great fun writing what I call the 'sexy sorceress stories'. Alas, I may have to say farewell to Angelica. My publisher has decided to focus on romance novels only and Angelica has always had a large dose of mystery.
I know she has many more adventures to experience, and she could find another home with another publishing house. I am in the midst of another sorceress story, which I've put on hold for now. If the muses have their way, I'll finish her tale and see what the Fates have in store for us. Only time will tell, but for now, I'm kept busy with seductive, brooding vampires. I can deal with that!

In the swing of things...
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Life

I never thought I'd say this again, but I'm so happy to be doing readings again. This time it's the way I wanted them to be. I suppose with age comes clarity and I am 'seeing, hearing and feeling' with much more accuracy. Perhaps the stars have finally aligned.

In the past readings were sometimes--draining. So far they are more in a mutual give and take vein--energy wise. This is where my true passion has always been and why I chose it as the subject matter for my novels.
