Both my brother and I took to drawing as soon as we grasp a crayon but I am pretty sure drawing models and fashion started with Fashion Plates…
While other girls were playing with their Barbies I was drawing them. In middle school I would fill sketchbooks with drawings of girls from Vogue. Back then I had short brown hair and thought I looked more like a boy and was secretly jealous of the popular blonde girls on the drill team. As most artist, our art creates a world that we can control and use an escape from reality.
In high school and college I started studying other artist and also discovered a few not in books that I admire and have influenced me …
Rosetti
Mucha
Beardsley
Varga
Nagel
Olivia
In the last couple years I started to really get into illustrator and have rediscovered how much I enjoyed creating these girls. Have yet to figure out where I would like to take these works (marketing or whatever) but for now I am enjoying the process. They in a sense represent an inner sex kitten that I believe every girl/woman has in them.

I rarely get sick but today I woke up this morning with my throat feeling like I had smoked a pack of menthols *ick * By the way, I quit smoking 8 years ago ... the best and hardest thing I have ever done.
Anyway, I curled up on the sofa with a cup of coffee and my laptop and completed this -
Saturday I went to see the screening of the animated shorts that are up for the Academy Awards tonight. The last one they showed was my favorite. "Peter and the Wolf" an Polish production of a classic Russian story by Sergei Prokofiev. I remember this story when I was little, my father played the record for me to learn the sound of different instruments. There are many versions of this story done thru the years but of course the one that sticks out in my memory was Disney's version. Yet again, as with "Little Mermaid", they changed the ending to a more child friendly ending. I won't say what the alteration is so not give it away or spoil it for who don't know the story.
This version is true to the original and should (I hope) win. It does have some changes from the original but the main structure of the story is there -
LACMA has always held a very special place in my heart. I still remember the art classes my brother and I took there when we were kids. I walk down the halls and still visit the same favorite pieces I did when I was little. So, I have been watching closely the transformation of their new building and installations. When they announced the free preview week for members I jumped at the chance to go. Luckily I have a great boss that let me take an extra long lunch to go.
The week before I went over to take pictures of the "Urban Lights" installation outside the museum. At night 202 restored street lights are lit by solar power. I was able to get some great shots!
The BCAM gallery has a great collection of contemporary art by some of the greatest artist known - Jeff Koons, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and a long list of others. Even if you are not an art savvy (nuts, obsessed…whatever) it is an incredible collection.
This weekend is the free community weekend and from what I hear all of the free tickets are gone…if you are going you are going to have fun. For those who don't I hope you make the time to go soon.

Staying creative on a rainy day...
Current mood: artistic
Category: Art and Photography
Perfect excuse to stay indoors and create. I got some more painting done but it got a little chilly at the easel. So, I poured myself a glass of wine, put Amelie in the DVD player (seen it so many times I don't need subtitles) and got to work on yet another pinup ... this time with butterflies

New Year ... New Site
Current mood: productive
Category: Art and Photography
Just finished working on my artsite tonight and I would love for you to take a look and get your feedback. The site contains my artwork, my photography and examples of Graphic Design projects.
So I tried to take some time off with the sole purpose to focus on painting and other art projects including getting a new site up. Unfortunatly life inturupted with the a bit of family drama (everyone if fine for the most part) and I could only get a fraction done of what I wanted -
I hope to get some more work done this weekend. Luckly there is another 3 day weekend coming up
