CBC Radio Show launches this summer + Concert for Jesse
hello to you.... I have come to my senses, and am celebrating over 200,000 profile views (without the aid of any marketing tools!) with a new blog! Lucky you!
CBC describes my new radio show with Danny Michel as: "A weekly musical exploration into the entertaining world of the cover song. Musicians Danny Michel and Emm Gryner share the best, the worst, the classics, the forgotten and the covers that launched a thousand careers.
This program is part of CBC Radio One's summer schedule from June 23 to August 31, 2008."
The show will air 9pm EST, 6pm AT (6:30 NT) on Radio One.
Tune in and you'll hear rad interviews with Ron Sexsmith, The Weakerthans, Jann Arden and others, exclusive performances by Sarah Harmer, Luther Wright, we'll find out what Bowie thinks of Danny Michel covering his "Young Americans", we air everything from the 1920's through to today, stuff you never knew was a cover, wacky covers (Shatner! Nimoy!), tear-jerkers (Johnny Cash!), indie rock (The Postal Service! In Flight Safety!) everything from bluegrass to new wave to punk to soul to reggae. Making the show was exhausting AND exhilarating! I do hope you enjoy it.
In other news, if you live in and around the Sarnia area, on June 13th, 7pm I am playing at a benefit concert for Jesse Morningstar, a friend of ours who is 2 years old and has an inoperable brain tumour. The community is really pulling together to help the family with their medical bills. If you can come down, pls do. It's at SCITS, $15 adults, $10 students and $5 for kids 5 and under. Click here for more info.

it has been wonderful to be in dublin here with in-flight safety...they rocked the Hard Working Class Heroes festival and got a very nice mention in the Irish Times today. i forgot how i played the PVT version of Wisdom Bus so John helped me see the light. Dan made coffee. tonight the lads play Ruby Sessions at Doyle's Pub. this weekend i will truck across the countryside and sing for whoever will listen, first in Galway then in Cork. I was very lucky this month to get a mention in Q Magazine when Bono was asked what songs of the past 20 years he wishes he wrote. he said 'almighty love'. i heart Bono.
After spending four hours at the U.S. Border today, the U.S. Border officials have made it impossible for me to play the shows in Boston and New York this week. I am very sorry to anyone who was planning on coming out to see me play. We will try to reschedule my performances soon somehow, but please head out anyway to Boston and NYC to see Charlotte Martin! Some better news soon...
