I must say that I suffered from a terrible case of STAGE FRIGHT last night. Of course, fright of any kind is always welcome — especially when one is accepting a very nice award from the CBC.
Thank you to all of the young voters who selected ENCYCLOPEDIA HORRIFICA as their "Book of the Year." Extra-special thanks to Ms. Amanda Carl and my fellow fright fans in Kalona, Iowa.
Thank you.

Below are some gypsy moths that I photographed yesterday on a mission at Ghost Lake Trail in Hope, New Jersey. The woods were crawling with gajillions of 'em. Soon, they'll grow wings and not look as gruesome. So enjoy them while you can.
And be sure to wish YOUR moths a Happy Moth's Day, too.
GASP! Please pardon the momentary breathlessness. The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has nominated ENCYCLOPEDIA HORRIFICA for a Bram Stoker Award — named, of course, after the famous and presently dead author of DRACULA.
Awards will be announced on March 29 at the terrifying Stoker banquet. What will they be serving? Chicken, pasta, and, of course, STAKE!
Many, many humble and horrific thanks to the HWA. Below is the category in which E.H. is nominated. A killer line-up, truly.
To the brave reader from Kansas City, Ohio, who contacted me regarding tonight's full moon:
Did you recite the Ancient Werewolf Chant? What happened?
To anybody else who wishes to recite the Ancient Werewolf Chant by the light of the silvery moon:
ANCIENT WEREWOLF CHANT In the ocean sea, on the island Buyan, in the open plain, shines the moon upon an aspen stump, into the green wood, into the spreading vale. Around the stump goes a shaggy wolf; under his teeth are all the horned cattle; but into the wood the wolf goes not; in the vale the wolf does not roam. Moon, moon! Gold-horned moon! Melt the bullet, blunt the knife, rot the cudgel, strike fear into man, beast, and reptile, so that they may not seize the gray wolf, nor tear from him his warm hide. My word is firm, firmer than sleep or the strength of heroes.
