I am their bastard sister!

Lucky me. I got to go to this show! A power trio of one man bands....
Possessed by Paul James, aka Conrad
Has the voice of an angel. It made the little hairs on t he back of my neck stand up. I can see why he chose to put possessed in his one man band moniker, because when he plays it is like he is channeling another force. Something supernatural that is super. He is also, according to mutual friends and acquaintances one of the nicest people ever. I was introduced to him and he told me he recognized me from myspace. He had a good handshake and was genuine. He plays guitar, fiddle and I think some other stringed things with his stomp board and tambourine. He is an old time one man band with some of that old time backwoods religion feel and he rocks. Unfortunately I missed a lot of his set because I was waiting for another angel, my friend Molly who bought me a ticket to the show to arrive.

Scott H. Biram
Ripped it up, tore it down, put it back together again than ripped it up all over again. I borrowed his Cd from someone awhile ago and it was really hard to be an honest person and give it back. All my expectations that he would be fucking awesome were met and exceeded. I was surprised to see the size of his pedal board and how he used them. and he did a badass noise jam at the end of his show with all of his technology. His recordings don't do him justice, and thy are great. Someone told me he puked during his set. I am not sure how I missed that. they said he let out a little puke, kept playing, just slowed down a bit and then sped back up. I did spend a lot of time looking at whatever he is using for his kick drum sound. Was it an electronic drum? With a tambourine around it. It sounded really good and I thought about how much easier it must be to carry around than a big kick drum.
Bob Log III
Well what can I say about Bob Log that hasn't already been said?
I was told by one fan of his at the show that he was "the new Hasil Adkins."
The first tie I saw Bob Log was at a music festival we were both playing at in Tucson AZ. I was agog with excitement Luckily the band that was supposed to play before me was running late, my set was early and a sympathetic bartender let me stow my things and run off right after my show to see Bob Log. I caught his last song "Boob Scotch".. I was entranced with his helmet, his spandex jumpsuit, and his lighted open guitar case. He throws down the rock for sure. After the show I approached his roadie who was breaking down his gear. I told him I am a one woman band who plays accordion, drums and sings at the same time. The roadie ushered me backstage to meet The Log III himself. He was very nice in person. I had brought a Cd to trade. I like to trade CDs. He told me he was out of Cds but would mail me one. Too bad I contacted him not once, but two or three times at different emails to get my copy of the his CD with no response. I guess when you are famous and internationally touring it is harder to keep up with the little people..
Well that could skew any psudeo-impartial review I could write of his show. Of course I am not impartial because I fucking love one man bands.
However my ability to give any meaningful comment on the performance of Bob Log III that night is further impaired thanks to the awesome Arkansas mountain man who told the bartender he was going to buy me my next 10 rounds. I was drinking whiskey and coke. I took it as a challenge. He said I couldn't drink 10 rounds before last call. I got through 8 rounds before he realized that no, I probably was not going to put out. He took it pretty well, considering.
From then on the night was hazy, messy, and I think I was pretty obnoxious. Er..isn't that what going to a rock and roll show is all about?
Bob Log III and Scoot H. Biram are on tour through August. You should definitely check them out if they are coming your way.

URGENT!!!!! HELP SAVE THE AUSTIN ENCHANTED FOREST!!!

The Austin Enchanted forest is the most unique venue in Austin. The 3 acres of land hosts the internationally famous annual "Art Outside" Festival every year during SXSW, This is one of the only places in Austin for artists to exhibit large scale art installations. As a performance venue thus far this year the Enchanted Forest has hosted almost 250 acts. Performance, poetry and all types of music. Every Halloween The Forest hosts the locally acclaimed Haunted Forest.

The Enchanted Forest ii is "Keeping Austin Weird", and providing an important venue for local bands, performance artists and djs to hone and refine their skills. Many of the acts booked at the Forest have few other venues in austin where they can perform. Such as The Lifesize Mousetrap from San Francisco, or Arc Attack the Tesla Coil Orchestra.

Unfortunately, this haven of creativity, art and music is being shut down by the City of Austin. A handful of people have taken it upon themselves to call PACE, The Austin Public Assembly Code Enforcement Team to complain whenever the gates of the Forest are open.

We , the community of artists, performers and musicians need to tell the Austin policy-makers just how valuable and important The Forest is to the creative life and character of the city before its gates are closed, and this international treasure is lost in a sea of burecracy. It is said the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and we need to not squeak, but to roar over the few "concerned citizens" trying to close the forest for good.

WHAT CAN YOU DO????

COME to The City Of Austin Music Task Force Meeting. This meeting is to deal with community concerns over live music and music venues. It is a opportune time for us to voice our dismay at the closing of The Forest and denying our right of assembly.

The meeting is Monday July 21st at 3708 Woodbury Dr.

WRITE A LETTER !!

To the Mayor of Austin, telling him how you feel about the closing of the Forest and what an asset The Forest is to the cultural life of Austin.

Breaking up
Category: Life

We are saddened to announce that due to personality conflicts and irreconcilable differences ,the band Esmerelda Strange will no longer be playing together.
Each of the members will be pursing solo projects. A reunion concert and tour are being discussed, possibly after the docu-drama reality movie made of their group therapy sessions is released. Hopefully the profits from the movie will help defray the rising legal costs of the heated battle for songwriting credits and copyright rights that is currently paralyzing any possibilty of the band working together functionally. The band may re-form with a differnt line up, in which case they will perfom under the moniker " The band formerly known as Emerelda Strange"
It has been a wild ride, and the band members would like to thank everybody who has helped and supported them along the way.

On the corner of disappointment and regret.
Current mood: depressed
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

I will leave you at the corner
of disappointment and regret.
With the projects never finished
And options closed forever
Squandered resources
in a slow march to death.
creaky bones and aching joints.
a litany of complaints
a territory with a map where
one dead end leads to another.
a place where
promises melt like ice cubes in the sun.
the good times rolled away
leaving only the strain of repetitive vices
and a stack of bills to be paid.

The corner of disappointment and regret is where I will go
go away from you.
where last years dreams
are like so much trash.
on this corner, this place of reckoning
some mistakes can't be undone.
actions have cumulative effects.
with gnashing teeth in an uncomfortable sleep
it's there we'll realize..
yes, its too late.

on the corner of disappointment and regret
there is no heroes welcome
no fanfare or parade
we were walking down a garden path
now I walk in shame.
you don't need to ask if the glass is half empty or half full.
all the glasses are all empty
drunk up long ago.
the only celebration is in leaving.
Apologies litter the side of the road
like white crosses on a mountain pass.
no one feels any better about the damage done.

its a real shitty place the corner of disappointment and regret
and thats where I will leave you.
while you wait for your money to come
while you wait for the world to pay back all those favors
you seem to think you are owed.
i don't need to hear from you
all the things you think I did wrong
because on the corner of disappointment and regret
my mistakes are written all over the walls.

i'll always remember
this place where we parted
where me met out final end
I wont forget how we got here,
and I will never go back again.
