2:08 PM - Homemade Salve Recipes Galore
Current mood: blessed
Category: Life

Back in the old days one would make salves to take care of many ailments.
I swear by the Black Salve since it is Mosquito season (our State Bird) and I'm very allergic to their bites. Just a bit of this black salve and you can forget about having been bit in just a few moments.

Great to use on kids because it does not sting!
So since I was just about out of the salve I decided to make some of my own.
I need of the recipe I went searching for it online and found many more wonderful recipes for many different kinds of salves that I want to share with you here on my blog.

Enjoy!

BLACK SALVE RECIPE

2 Tablespoons Bee's Wax
3 Tablespoons Cocoa Butter
3 Tablespoons Shea Butter

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Vitamin E
1 Tablespoon Honey Powder
2 Tablespoons Activated Charcoal Powder
3 Tablespoons Rhassoul Clay

Optional: Herbal Extracts, Essential Oils, Lugol's Solution of Iodine depending on what
you're using the salve for.

8 1/2 ounce clear jars

Black Salve is touted to do everything these days,
including curing cancer.

What it does best is absorb toxins. The common use
for it is to put a glob of it on a bee sting, slivers
or a cut. It sucks out the poisons!
No home should be without it.

First Step:

Put Bees wax, cocoa butter and shea butter in a small
pot and heat. You want to keep it at 180 degree for at
least 15 minutes.
This is easier than it sounds. Just heat it on medium
high until it is melted. Turn off the burner and let
it sit. It should still be over 180 in 15 minutes. :)

Second Step:

Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until well
blended. The easy place to buy Activated Charcoal is
in your local health food store or herbal medicine
store.
You'll probably have to open a lot of capsules, but
it is the stuff you need for this.

Third Step:

Feel free to add any relevant herbal extracts to the
formula just before you spoon it in. You want to make
sure it is very cooled off before adding any extracts,
essential oils, or fragrance.

Fourth Step:

Once it is smooth, spoon into 1/2 ounce jars. Give a
jar to everyone you know. They will thank you for it!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Healing Balm

1 part lavender flowers
1 part peppermint leaves

Steep in 3 ounces of sunflower oil for 45 minutes.Strain.
Melt 2 ounces cocoa butter or coconut oil in microwave or double boiler.
Add 2 ounces of beeswax and melt together.
Add strained sunflower oil and mix thoroughly.
When mixture cools, add 2 tsp. essential oil of your choice.
(I use peppermint and lavender)
Pour into small soap molds or small plastic container.
Peppermint is cooling while the lavender is topically healing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crack Salve
1 oz Beeswax
1 oz Calendula infused olive oil
1 oz Plaintain infused olive oil
1 oz St. Johnswort infused olive oil
Melt all together til beeswax is melted then add:
6 drops Vit E
5 drops Pine needle e.o.
5 drops Chamomile (german) e.o.
5 drops Lavendar e.o.
5 drops Tea tree e.o.
Cool a bit , then pour into clean jars.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Foot Salve

10 oz. coconut oil (solid, not fractionated)
2 oz. jojoba
3 oz. olive oil
3 Tbs. candelilla wax
1/2 oz. beeswax ( you can replace this with all candelilla wax if you'd
like, I was not happy with the consistency so I added some beeswax)
1 oz. cocoa butter
.5 oz. menthol crystals
10 drops peppermint
10 drops eucalyptus
10 drops narouli
Melt all ingredients together except for the menthol and essential oils.
Remove from heat, stir in menthol crystals, re-heat until crystals are
melted if needed. Remove from heat and let cool before stirring in the
essential oils or they will evaporate, pour into containers.
If you don't have experience in using menthol crystals, they are quite
powerful, so do wear a mask when using them and caution, you don't want
to have your head right over the bowl when mixing this item.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Itchy Salve:

If using fresh herbs, gently spray clean and let wilt overnight in a dry place.
1 handful of chickweed
1/2 handful of chamomile heads
1/2 handful of calendula heads
2 Tbs. of thyme
2 Tbs. comfrey root
2 Tbs. marshmallow root
Cover with olive oil, infuse over low heat (never get above 200) for 3
hours.
Strain and add 1-2 oz.cocoa butter and 1-2 oz.beeswax, heat until
melted and pour into containers. Just drop a little on a plate and see
if it hardens enough, if not add more beeswax only a little bit at a
time and re-test.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chest Rub/Soreness

Olive oil 1 cup or enough to cover the herbs(I don't like to
substitute, olive lasts a long time)
grated ginger root fresh 2 Tbs. dried about 4Tbs.
dried or wilted peppermint leaves 1/4-1/2 cup
Put in crock pot or double boiler and simmer over low heat for 3
hours. Strain out herbs, put back in pan over low heat and melt 1-2
Tbs. of beeswax in the oil, depending on how hard you want to make it.
When beeswax melts, remove from heat stir and pour into container, let
sit until cool.
*I add poplar buds to the herbs for pain and inflammation, simmer as
instructed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Easy Salve

Here is another easy salve recipe. Lemon Balm contains Eugenol which
eases pain and calendula is great for all types of skin conditions, very
soothing.
Most of you will remember that I don't always weigh my ingredients, so
these are approximate.
2 cups olive oil or sunflower oil (olive lasts longer)
3/4 cup lemon balm and calendula. Just throw handfulls in the measuring
container until you get 3/4. Try to use equal amounts of each.
Mix together and place in top of double boiler. Simmer over low heat for
2 hours. Remember to replace the water in bottom pot if it gets low.
Strain out herbs. In seperate pan or bowl if using microwave, melt 2
tsp. beeswax and 1 tsp. cocoa butter or lanolin. Add to the infused oil
and stir until cool. If you wanted to make this antibacterial, you would
add a few drops of tea tree or thyme eo when it cools. Put into jars and
label!!!!! Add the date.....
You might think you'll remember what you made, but you won't....lol

Herbal Infusion Directions

Place your dried plant material in the top of a double boiler and cover with
just enough olive oil (or oil of your choice) to cover. Bring the temperature
up to 120-150 deg. F. and keep it there for 4 hours. Strain through
cheesecloth, squeezing all the oil out of the plant material. Pour this
infused oil over another batch of dried material and repeat the process. Store
in the refrigerator.

Tips:
1. Use only dried plant material. Fresh contains water which will breed
bacteria in your salves.
2. Use latex or other type of rubber glove when you squeeze the plant material
to keep from contaminating the oil with bacteria from your hands.
3. Make only what you can use in a week.
4. Don't make the fire too hot, as it will cause the temp to rise too
drastically. Remove from heat when the infused material reaches 120 deg. F.
The temp will continue to rise. When it starts dropping close to the 120 mark
again, zap it for a minute with the heat.
5. Keep in mind that once oil starts to heat, the temp goes up drastically.
You don't want to burn the plant material.
6. Do not cover the pot. You don't want condensation to build up and drop
back into the oils.

I've had better luck with this method than with the cold infusion on a
windowsill, which always seemed to develop condensation inside the jar which in
turn resulted in bacteria and mold growing in the final oil.

Making Herb Infused Oil

I am a clinical herbalist (as well as soap and toiletry maker).
I wanted to share a recipe for making superior, therapeutic quality herb infused oil.
You can use this oil as is or in what ever recipe. This method works especially well
with resiny herbs such as calendula or St. johnwort. Some active constituents in
herbs are not very easily extracted in oil but come out just fine in alcohol.
This way you get both!
I was taught this recipe by the first herbalist I apprenticed with years ago
and have also seen basically the same in James Green's Herbal Medicine Maker's Handbook.
Here goes:

1 part herb by weight (for example 1 0z)
1 part grain alcohol (everclear) by volume( 1 fl oz in this case)

Mix the two together in a glass jar and let sit covered for 24 hour,
shaking every once in a while

The next day mix the wet herbs with 5-6 parts of oil, about 5-6 fl oz in this case
(for medicinal salves we usually use extra virgin olive, but what ever you want to use is fine)
Pour this into a blender and blend the whole thing on high speed until the sides of
the blender feel warm.
Strain the oil through cheesecloth, pressing to get most of the oil out.
Pour the oil in a pot and over very low heat, warm it until all the alcohol is evaporated.
( you can check by holding a match close to the surface of the oil.
If it catches fire there is still alcohol there...careful!)
Now you can bottle the oil or used it right away.

CALENDULA HEALING SALVE

A Stovetop Preparation

Uses: Regenerates tissue! Apply to chapped hands all winter. Use for burns, scrapes, or on
diaper area. A
wonderful salve for garden-worked hands.

2-3 cups Calendula Petals (harvest blossoms after dew dries and before noon)
1 cup Olive Oil (is antibacterial and goes rancid more slowly than other oils)
1/4 cup or 2 oz. Beeswax (chips melt more readily)

Optional:

several drops Rose or Lavender Oil (adds nice scent, calming)
1 oz. Lanolin (makes salve creamier, but some children react to this)
1/2 oz. Glycerin (makes salve creamier, compare to above recipe to see which you prefer)
* Recipe can be increased proportionately for larger quantities

1. Use small gathering baskets to pick moisture-free calendula flowers on a sunny morning.
Take time toenjoy the full rich color, form and delicate scent of the flowers.
As children remove petals
into thestainless pan a sticky flower residue will be their first introduction to the plant's
hidden qualities.

2. Add olive oil to the pan and place over the lowest possible heat.
Stir rhythmically as the oil heats to avoid "cooking" the petals in over-heated oil.
Small bubbles may form on the bottom of the pan.
This is as "hot" as the oil should get.
Stir to distribute warmth throughout the calendula oil.
Continue for a total of 1 to 2 hours.
This task may be divided over two days time if cooled and covered tightly
between beatings.
(I often set aside a "little bit" of the petals so that each child may sprinkle
some into the oil when it is their turn to stir.)

Hum or sing stirring the love into the medicine oil.

"Round and round the Earth is turning, turning round and round to morning, and from
morning round to night."

3. Allow calendula oil to cool to the point where the calendula petals can be strained from
the oil, pouring it through (unbleached) cheesecloth. Twist cheesecloth full of oily petals
into a bundle and secure with a twist tie or string.

4. Use a wooden spoon to press oil free through the cheesecloth. I find a stainless steel
mesh strainer helpful.
The cheesecloth is placed in the mesh strainer over a bowl as children press oil
out of calendula flowers.
It takes a fair amount of pressing to remove every precious spoonful of amber-colored
calendula oil.

It is also a wonderful opportunity for the children to be dabbed with the oily cheesecloth
and rub or massage the warm oil into their chapped hands, knees, elbows.

5. In order to blend oil with melted beeswax both must be similar.
Return calendula oil topan to be gently warmed again while beeswax
is melted over a double burner, but not directly over heat as
it is highly flammable.
When wax is melted and close to the temperature of the oil, pour wax into oil.
When completely unified remove from heat. Pour into lipped measuring cup and then
into small sterilized jars.
Allow children to observe salve "setting up" over the next ten minutes as
they decorate/illustrate labels for their jar.
After cooled and set, cap jars with lids and adhere labels.

Allow to cool another 10 minutes before handling.
Store in cool conditions free from direct sunlight and heat.

End with a song, verse, or gratitude blessing.

EQUIPMENT:
• harvest baskets
• stainless steel pan
• spatula
• wooden spoon
• stove top or double-burner hot plate
• double boiler for melting beeswax
• cheesecloth (unbleached, if possible)
• twist tie or string
• mesh stainless steel strainer and a bowl to fit strainer in
• lipped measuring cup for pouring oil into tiny jars
• small, lidded jars such as jelly or honey sample jars. Be sure children's fingers
can reach bottom of jar to remove every precious drop of salve.
Amber or cobalt jars protect salve, but do not allow
children to see the true color or setting up of salve.
• tiny paper labels and colored pencils for making labels (calendula colored scraps of painting
paper make nice labels too)
• clear tape for adhering labels

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Solar Infusion Preparation

Day 1 - Harvest 3 cups moisture-free calendula blossoms after dew dries, before noon.
Hull calendula petals into a harvest basket.
Enjoy the sticky, healing residue. Place petals into a sterilized pint glass jar
with tight sealing lid.

Add 1 cup organic olive oil.

Remove air pockets by poking gently with the handle of the wooden spoon or a chopstick.

Cover with the lid. Place in the sun on a windowsill, or outdoors on a stone in a southern location.

Sing a song, say a verse or blessing over the calendula petals.

Day 2-14 - Visit the calendula oil daily.
Observe, feel warmth in the jar. Turn contents in jar.

Sing a song, verse, or blessing.

Day 14 - Remove oil from its sunny resting place. Strain oil from the calendula using a wooden
spoon, pressing through the unbleached cheesecloth placed in the stainless steel strainer over a bowl.
(Keep some calendula oil for use after showering or going to the beach. Just pour into a tiny glass bottle.

Add a drop or two of rose or lavender oil, if desired.
Store oil bottle in a cool location.)

To prepare calendula salve melt 1/4 cup or 2 oz. beeswax in a double burner, gently warm
calendula oil to a temperature similar to beeswax, and add wax to warm oil. When blended, stir in several
drops of rose or lavender oil, 1 oz. lanolin, or 1/2 oz. glycerin, if desired.

• Pour warm calendula mixture into tiny, sterile jars.
• Prepare paper labels (using dried pressed calendula petals or colored pencil illustrations,
on calendula-colored painting paper) while children observe salve "setting up" during the cooling
process.
• Adhere labels.
• Cover with lids. Take care that children do not handle hot jars for 10 minutes.
• Celebrate with a verse, song, blessing.
• To insure that mold is not given birth in either infusion method it is important that
calendula is dry when harvested.
Check the infusion for a dark, cloudy formation in bottom of the jar.
Do not use cloudy oils.
Repeat process until successful. If infusing in a sunny window, use cheesecloth
instead of a solid lid to cap infusion. This allows moisture to evaporate from oil

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salve for Colds and Congestion

Melt shortening, such as Crisco, over low heat until liquified.
Put a filter of your choice (coffee filter, cheesecloth, etc.)
over a jar and secure it around the edge with a rubberband.
Make sure the filter hangs down into the jar.

Crush some Eucalyptis and Mint leaves to release the oils and put them in the filter.
Pour the melted shortening through the leaves and filter. Let it all drain through.
You can repeat this if you wish to make it stronger, but you do not need to put the
shortening over heat again...just pour it through another filter with the crushed leaves in it.

Leave it alone and let it cool completely. Now you have a salve to rub on your
chest or directly under your nose to help with colds and congestion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Echinacea Salve for Wounds

1 teaspoon Echinacea powder (can be found at herbal/natural stores)

small amount of water

Instructions: Add very small amounts of water to Echinacea powder mixing until
there is a thick paste. Spread the desired amount of paste over the wound and
allow it to stay on several hours or overnight. Wipe off with a wet warm cloth.

A clinical study of 4500 patients with inflammatory skin conditions has shown
that 85% were cured with a topical Echinacea salve (Wacker & Hilbig, 1978).
Therefore, Echinacea may be wonderful for building up our immune systems,
but it is also great for healing wounds and skin regeneration.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple Comfrey Salve Recipe

Comfrey salve is a must-have for any herbal first aid kit! We use it almost every day
chapped lips and elbows, dry noses, cuts, scrapes, burns, even as an under eye cream!

Here's a super simple recipe for comfrey salve recipe that you can make right in your kitchen.

This salve also makes great gifts for friends and family. I like to put up big batches to
give out at the holidays.

Dr. Corson's Yarrow Salve Recipe

Yarrow is one of my favorite medicinal plants. My teacher, Patsy Clark, of Bittersweet
Cultural Center (Rochester, IN) taught me to make a very effective salve for cuts, abrasions,
and minor burns. It is great for paper-cuts, quickly taking the pain away,
and preventing infection.

This salve is antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-styptic (stops bleeding).
Therefore, it is my 1 choice for all abrasions, cutting down the pain dramatically
within 5 to 10 minutes and minimizing chances of infection. There are multiple
antibacterial compounds in this aromatic lawn and garden perennial, which have
been named (see Kathy Keville's excellent book, The Encyclopedia of Medicinal
and Culinary Herbs).

My husband and I are both physicians, and this is what we and all our
reach for first, for scrapes, lacerations, burns, and paper-cuts.

To make yarrow salve:

1. Wild, white yarrow (not the golden yarrow or other hybrid colors)

Gather the leaves (flowers in full bloom can also be used), and dry in the shade
or indoors (never in sunlight, which degrades the chemistry once it is separated
from the earth). Dry for minimum of 5-7 days, longer is fine. Store in clean paper
bags (not plastic, as this will promote growth of fungi, with any stored herb)

2. Melt 4 cups of olive oil and 1/2 cup of pure beeswax on a stovetop, or if funds
are tight 4 cups of Crisco instead (no need for the beeswax to solidify it at room
temperature).; smaller batches are simply scaled down from these proportions,
using about a 1/8 ratio of beeswax to olive oil

3. Add as much dried yarrow leaf (and flowers if included) as you can immerse in the
oil, stirring gently with a wooden spoon on simmer. Avoid "french-frying" or blackening
or browning of the leaves. Simmer 15-20 minutes on low, stirring. The medicinal aroma
will be prominent, and the color of the oil will turn green or golden green.

4. Cool approximately 15 minutes to allow safer handling. Strain through a fine
metal-screen sieve into a 4-cup glass measure, then pour from that into clean,
small glass jars, e.g. baby food or tiny jelly jars.

5. LABEL each jar with "yarrow salve" (Achillea millefolium), and the date.
Store in refrigerator. Will last for over a year if refrigerated.
These make great gifts for friends and family.

6. Use liberally with a band-aid or other sterile dressing, to cover the wound,
keeping in the salve and keeping clothes protected from the oil.
I have had excellent success even with a nasty 2nd degree burn of the palm of the hand,
healing with no scarring. A low dose of Codeine was only needed for the first day,
because the yarrow's analgesic properties were so helpful, being applied 3 times a day
until healed.

4:19 AM - All in a days work...
Current mood: cultured
Category: Life

...or so I wish it was. Instead it has taken me a long long time now to get back to this blog. Thanks MySpace for fixing whatever problem there was since I had tried several times through the last few months to post and always received an error message.

There have been a lot of new happenings surrounding everything from new art projects, ideas, mysteries to voices calling out from the past, card readings that have been right on (it's almost scary) to great new discovered recipes and wonderful discoveries out in my back yard. I will try to cover as much as I can today and then expect the rest to dribble in over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye out for the next few blogs.

Springtime has past with all it's new beginnings and we are now in the midst of a rather rainy summer here in the Midwest. My Faes and I were unable to save the Flowers outside in my garden from the flooding that happened a few weeks back, but the Herbs inside my secret Garden are doing rather well and I have been able to harvest a lost all ready for many different teas that I like to make to quench that thirst and with it stay healthy. Coffee consumption for me has slowed down quite a bit now, which is great considering the soaring price of coffee these days due to the rising gas prices. It is amazing and sad how every action has these kinds of reactions in the economy.

So I wandered around out in the fields a few times now and discovered that I should not have to worry so much about how badly things are going in the economy. In a Fairy Oracle card reading it has been said multiple times now that I should stay a bit longer out in nature and then follow my instincts because there is still so much for me to learn from nature. Indeed I'm taking classes that have only one teacher...Mother Nature! I discovered a whole host of plants after the flooding that I have never before paid attention to, so I decided to take some snippings of species and take it home to look up what they were all about. What I found was amazing. There is no worry about flour in my kitchen anymore...for I have found "Curly Dock" all over the wild fields.

Considered a weed and an invasive species. One can harvest the thousands of seeds that are on one plant and crush & grind them into flour with a mortar and pestle. This flour can also be used whole for breads and crackers and they are one of the highest sources of iron. In early spring one can harvest the leaves to add into salads and later in mid spring, the older leaves can be used the same way you would cook spinach. What a great gift to find, then in late July and August you harvest the seeds. here is a good recipe for you that you can also share with family and friends:

Curly Dock Seed Crackers

1 c curly dock seed flour
1 c unbleached white flour, or flour of your choice
1 t salt
1 c water
grapeseed oil, or oil of your choice

Mix dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Add water until you have a pliable dough. Roll thinly on well floured surface. Cut into shapes…this is where you can have fun and get creative. Place onto well oiled cookie sheet and bake for 5 minutes at 375°, take out and turn them and bake for roughly 5 more minutes until crisp.

Another great recipe for Curly Dock:

Varzar cu dragavei
Curly Dock Pie

A Transylvania dish made usually with mountain spinach (Atriplex hortensis) or green onion. Here the filling is made with curly dock (Rumex crispus) -- a plant used mostly in Oltenian dishes --, and a touch of dill. In the spring the same dish is made with a combo of curly dock, green onion, and dill; in wintertime greenhouse spinach and dill are used.

Ingredients for the dough:
- 600 g/20 oz flour
- 100 g/3 oz lard or margarine
- 25 g/1 oz yeast
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- water

Ingredients for the filling:
- 600 g/20 oz curly dock
- 50 g/2 oz dill
- 400g/14 oz telemea cheese
- 2 eggs

Start by picking the curly dock in spring when it still has no stalks with seeds... Then set about making the dough. In the image you can see the lard used. Add all the ingredients of the dough. (Add the yeast after you have dissolved it first in a cup of lukewarm water.) Knead well with a fork, and add water if needed. When it stops sticking to the bowl, it's done.

Chop the curly dock as shown. Chop the dill, and add grated cheese to the mix. Then add 2 eggs, and mix well with a spoon.

Cut the dough in half, spread some flour on the work surface, and roll one half of the dough into a sheet. Place the sheet into the greased pan; add the curly dock mix, spreading it evenly.

Roll out the second ball of dough, and place it on top of the curly dock mix. With a fork, pierce the dough in an even pattern several times, as shown.

Place in the oven and bake at low heat for 40-50 minutes.

When the top crust gets a golden color, the pie is done. Enjoy!

I hope that you will enjoy these couple of recipes as much as I have so far.
Since I'm running out of time for today be sure to visit again soon to see for the new blogs that I want to put up of other recipes of more wild foods as well as other updates of happenings in my little world.

For today I wish everyone a most magical weekend!
My faes greet and send you blessings!

8:44 AM - Things that make one go.....HMmmmmm....
Current mood: sad
Category: Life

It's been quite a few days since my last blog again and at last I have some things to blog about again.

First the good news:

I have meet some amazing new artists again and it is always such a great pleasure to see great eye candy :)
One such amazing artist is:
http://UpfromtheAshes.etsy.com

Amazing stuff for all fairy lovers. Everything from leather masks to fairy & angel wings made with incredible detail. I suggest you take a look at their store and feast your eyes upon some great artwork! you can also see more of their works at:
http://www.upfromtheashespa.com
http://firebirddesigns.blogspot.com/
http://starbright2040.deviantart.com

Another incredible mask artist is at:
http://faerywhere.etsy.com

Some seriously sensual Belly Dancer Costumes are at:
http://aphroditesgirdle.etsy.com

Pretty amazing huh?

Well anyhow here the not so good news:
As you know I have been sick for some time now and after 3 weeks of all the coughing up a lung, sneezing til blue in the face and just not feeling myself....I'm finally feeling better and more energized in order to create new things again.
However...and now I have to vent....
coming back to work after having to take vacation time so as to not get any more sick occurrences (which in my humble opinion needs to be reformed since we were dealing with a sick building syndrome due to air duct virus contamination) I realized that my job is just such a sad excuse for a corporation that allows people with no real people skills or any idea of what a supervisor/team lead/manager is suppose to be like get promoted. Would you believe someone gets promoted to team lead that has no team to lead just because they begged for a raise and put on a whine?! I was appalled to read the memo. Another one sad excuse for someone to be above you is that when you ask questions about certain things that need clarification you get the answer "This meeting is over" because they don't have an answer to any questions anyone asks?! What has corporate America come to? Superiors just cutting one off when legit questions are asked about a job related issue and they happen to get out of bed with the wrong foot or having boyfriend problems because he refuses to get in to talks about marriage?! The turn over rate where I work has climaxed within the last couple of years since certain untrained management people don't know how to keep excellent workers around anymore due to inhumane treatments. Years ago when I first started I was told everyone has been there for years and I got lucky to get this job, now we can't seem to keep anyone anymore because of the inhumane way of treatment of senior employees and washed out ways that fairly new hires are friends and family members of said new management is getting promoted without any previous experience or any people skills to even think of. I feel like we are going back to the dark ages with this. So sad to see.

On another note... the crime rate since the beginning of the recession has just gone whacked! My moped was stolen last night while I was at work. Right from under my kitchen window where i park it close to the house in hopes of keeping people at bay. My poor dog must've barked her self to the point of almost loosing her voice, the poor thing. According to my neighbors this must've happened between midnight and 6am before I came back home from work. Possibilities to have it found according to the police is slim to none :( the only thing that I can hope for is that the bastard that stole it falls off it and then have Karma to take over the rest of it.

A student was recently raped and murdered near campus in Madison Wisconsin in bright daylight in her home. Appalling I say! Despicable!

Recession makes for some bad bad things to happen in this world and I'm so saddened to see that there seems to be no end to this anytime soon. So I ask everyone that has read this blog...say a prayer, send out some positive energy to heal the world from all this negative craziness. Be kind to your fellow man, stranger or not. If we don't do some positive energy flow now what will our children and children's children grow up to in this world?

Namaste, blessings, love & light

In memory of my beloved moped :(

Happy Earth Day Mother Earth!

Photobucket

Imagine if everyone for just today would plant a tree, pick some trash up out of a lake/river/stream or street, would recycle all day long and maybe even unplug unneeded Appliances & gadgets today the wonder it would do for Mother Earth.

I decided that today is a good day to miss out on some sleep so I can plant a few wildflowers and a small tree out back. Trying to do my share of recycling I have been collecting various things for sometime to sit down and create some art out of it ie: Plastic Bags, Clothes, Leather and Powdered Coffee Creamer Canisters.

I have seen some amazing Art out of recycled items and today I wanted to show you some for inspiration. Maybe you too have a great skill and could make something beautiful out of something that you can reclaim to a new life!

Here is some incredible art that can be found on etsy by some amazing talented artists that make a change in the way they view trash.

3:55 AM - Ready for the New Year 2008
Current mood: busy
Category: Life

It's been a very hectic last month for me and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

There have been a few changes in my life recently and that of course contributed to not having much time these days to do much of anything, let alone have time for myspace. Hopefully that will change some in the new year.

I hope everyone had marvelous & magical Holidays for this years Christmas Season and that everyone was very happy with what Santa brought them. My Christmas days were spent at work at my mundane job, where I have been for the last 11 days straight unfortunately, 10 hour nights. As far as I know that won't change for another 5 days in a row and then I'll be so happy to be off for 2 days.

Although production of my art has not changed much since I used up every waking moment I have left after my job to create still more chain maille necklaces, now earrings as well and the never ending inked fairies that I am so fond off, I still wish I had more hours in a day to create even more as new ideas for the new year are quickly filling up my art idea journal.

In January I will take some vacation time off around my Birthday so that I can relax some and get back into the swing of things with creations and commenting back to all my myspace friends :) Please be patient with me until then....it's been a very very long December for me with no time at all for myself and I have so been craving a moments worth of solace as you can imagine.

I want to thank everyone that has continued to send their support and wonderful comments to me, without them my world would be very bleak at this moment and they bring sunshine at always the right time to me. You are so very much appreciated.

Due to the great support from buyers of my art I was able to get a car recently as the moped situation was becoming quite unbearable at times with snow reaching 4-6" in a day and driving in the snow and icy cold winds was making my Faes and I gasp for air more then once. So we thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for that wonderful support.

As before mentioned there have been some changes in my life recently. My partner and I have decided for a separation after 13 yrs. Sometimes things just go that way but our wish to remain friends runs very strong. After all, we have gotten to know each other so well through these years that we know we can remain friends as the last part of our relationship was purely based on companionship & friendship which is the most important part in any relationship one has. I've learned great things from this relationship and hope that she has as well and I still love her family as if it was my very own since we weave so many precious threads once we are in a relationship especially for such a long time.

Well, that about sums it up for me for today (the last day of this old year)

I hope that everyone will play it safe tonight when you go out to celebrate your New Year coming. I will be at work and will be thinking of you and making new plans for the New Year and dream a few more dreams to make them come true as well.

Be Safe! Be Blessed! And be Courageous in your New Year to come!
With a bit of magic & faith everything is possible!

Yours truly

11:53 AM - Some important Buying information!
Current mood: creative
Category: Art and Photography

First off I want to wish everyone a most enchanting Wednesday morning. The week is almost over and soon you will be enjoying your weekend days off!

I wanted to let everyone know the following information if you ever decide to buy from my etsy shop, for those that haven't yet and have thought about it.

I am a very particular person and strive every day to give 100% satisfaction to my customers.

If you see an item in my shop, and you like the way it looks...let's say for instance a necklace...but you think that it might be too long or to short for what I have listed...but you really really want it. Fret not, I will do my very best to make whatever change is necessary to make the piece fit to a T for you.
Now you decide that you'd like earrings to match but I don't have any listed in my shop. Again just contact me and voila we will work together to get just the right pair for you to match what you have in mind.

Say you love the fairies that I have and you want a special card for someone or for yourself to frame or whatever have you. I will work with you to get what you had in mind. Say you see a card in my shop that has the right design on it but the wrong choice of words ie: My Fairy Moon Card and the card reads "Meet me under the Moon tonight" and you would rather have the card say "Invitation to a special date" or "Winter Solstice" or anything that comes to your mind. It will only take me 24 hrs. to make the change for you and the card that you want could be in your hands in no time.

I love doing Custom Work if it is within my ability to make it so.

What I will NOT DO is take an existing piece of art from someone else and recreate it for you. That is a big NO-NO in my book and I had to mention that because I had been approached by a few people that asked me if I would copy someone else's art because I'm more affordable?! I could NEVER copy someone else's work for you because I could make it cheaper. It's unethical and demeaning of the original art & artist! I would likewise hope that I would never run into my artwork that was done by someone else because they were cheaper.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now on to other things. You want to know what others have said of my Art Work and Custom work?
Here are some e-mails and Feedbacks that I have received from my customers that have ordered Custom made items from my shop and/or my studio:
by morganstreet
OMG - this is the cutest card I've ever seen. It's so perfect for me but I have one complaint.....I can't use it. It's far to lovely to waste on someone. Maybe I could write a note to myself and mail it to me? hmmmm....sounds like a plan :)
Thank you for the free card also - that was awfully generous of you. Packaging was pristine. I almost hated to unwrap everything. It all just looked so beautiful. Thanks again!
by DebsDoodles
by WarmandFuzzyBaby
Wow this card is absolutely awesome. Please when you make a craft fairy or crochet fairy let me know. The pictures do not do it justice. Word will get around. Good luck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The list could go on...but...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

...I don't think I need to add anymore. I allow my work to speak for itself. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised when you make your order from my shop that you will be very satisfied. Should it ever come to the event that you would not be, I would of course refund your moneys as soon as I receive the items back. That is my guarantee to you!

I am a customer to other artists as well, so I know what it is like to buy from online when you can't hold the item in your hand when you are ready to make that purchase.

I hope that with this little blog I was able to answer some questions if anyone had any. If you still have questions about ordering from my shop or any questions about custom work or any questions at all, just send me a message either here on myspace or on etsy. On myspace it will take about 24-48 hrs. for me to get back with you. On etsy I will answer back within 24 hrs.

I've also been asked what the whole picture of the Logo I made for the Faeryland Emporium looked like so here is picture for you of what actually won the contest:

Well that brings me to a close for today since I have a few more projects that need finishing such as 3 custom made recycled Jeans Bags, 1 custom made earrings and some new Suede & Smooth recycled leather pouches with some recycled rabbit fur (I can hardly wait to get started on those since I hate to throw out anything that a life has been given for! I'd like to think of the leather & fur items as way of giving them a new life of some sort, since their real life had already been taken away. I don't like throwing them away. With recycling them they will become once again a treasure for someone and they will at least be memorialized in some way.

Keep an eye out for those new pouches in my shop, since I may not be able to blog about them right away.

Humbly yours and many blessings to my readers, customers and fairy lovers

Peace and Quiet now...

The sale in my etsy shop was not as successful as in my studio. Surely one can't complain and I'm not. One part of the Holiday sales is over just when another one is about to begin again. This time I'm keeping my Studio doors closed off though because through all the rushing in and out one feels like fainting.

It's been great all the way around though. I have been very fortunate to have so many people that apparently love what I make in my surrounding area of where I live and create, that almost no day passes with the phone ringing off the hook with requests for custom work and inquiries on what I can do for them since the Christmas season is almost upon us.

I do need to say that I thirst for some small peace and quiet every now and then. Today would be such a day. After only 4 hours of sleep and a practically all-nighter due to creations and visitors deep into the night, I exhaustedly laid down and immediately fell into a dreamless sleep. When my puppy awoke me it was only a little later and I practically sleepwalked out into the kitchen searching for any sign of coffee. None was there, but another idea of a Fae popped into my head that needed to be sketched right away...then another and another. Soon there were 6 new sketches ready to be inked in.

Then a phone call...asking me if I would give up permission for one of my designs as a tattoo. Then an inquiry of using my designs for business cards. Of course my mind won't stand still with these questions and one will search until an answer will be found.

Right now though, my head is throbbing from all the new things to check on, more copyright laws to be learned, more answers to be brought back to the ones asking them etc.

I took out a half an hours this evening for some most needed meditation and smudging, searching for answers on all those questions. I feel the need to take a bubble bath with my pixies and faes and just hang out in the smells of lavender to relax some. Maybe have some Tea with that and try for some rest with a good book? Ah forget the book, that's too much brain work again. Music....yes, I think nice quiet Celtic harp music should do the trick.

As I'm sitting here writing down my thoughts, I can't help but wonder how this all came about so fast. All my life I've been working towards making others happy with what I create and then it's hit like a firework explosion. I love to see people smile at art, not just my own but others as well. It's an adrenalin rush just like the kind I imagine as it is for people that love dangerous sports, stunt men and there like. It's a rush like no other.

Well, before I fall off my chair here I will send out a few more comments for the night and then go for that all needed relaxing bubble bath and tea. I hope everyone on my list is having an enchanting evening/day/night whichever it is.

Tomorrow is another back to the mundane work day for me and I have to admit I'm not looking forward to it.

Goodnight everyone, dream sweet, my thoughts will be with all that are on my list :)

8:53 AM - Wow so many things to do so little time...
Current mood: excited
Category: Life

My Life has been incredibly busy as of late. Not enough time for sleep or eating let alone leaving comments for my wonderful and supportive Friends here on MySpace. My most sincere apologies for that. ever since my job turned off access to MySpace I've been lagging the time to make sure everyone gets their weekly comments and Birthday Wishes and that saddens me. I will try continuously to comment as many people back as my so limited time permits though, please don't be discouraged when it take me a while, just know that you are in my thoughts for sure and that my heart smiles when I see your comments and your continued support.

So here are some of the news that have come into my life recently in case you missed the bulletin that I sent out today:

------------Bulletin as it was posted-----------

It's been a very very busy time of year for me and I wanted to give my Friends on my list an update of what's been happening for those that have supported me in my art En devour and have shown continued support.

Things are going rather well with my art. I was offered to possibly have my fairies turned into rubber stamps by a British rubber stamp company for their 2008 catalog. I'm still wheeling and dealing with them right now of copyrights and such. More about that when I find out more details.

In other news....I will be featured with my Jewelry & Fairy art in a Book called " the handbook for handmade". It will be a coffee table sized book and I will have 2 pieces of my Jewelry and one Fairy Greeting Card featured with a small bio of my etsy shop along with 35 other wonderful Artists that also have a great Shop on Etsy. I will receive my first edition by mid-December and I will order a couple ones extra to keep on hand for visitors to my studio.

More news if you care to know :)

A Logo that I designed for a contest of a huge Gift Shop in Georgia won the first place in their Logo Contest and from now on all of their products, newsletters & Business Cards will carry the Fairy Logo that I have designed to fit their business. They will also carry a large amount of my Greeting cards right along side of Amy Brown's wonderful Fairy Art. The Shop is called Fairyland Emporium and here is the link of their official flyer that was posted by someone online: www.thescentedlife.com/attention-georgia-peaches-faeryland-emporium-is-coming-soon/

As you can imagine I'm so very excited for all these new venues.

Last but not least I'm running a pretty good sale in my shop right now that I thought you might wanted to know about.

Here is the info as it appears in my shop:

9:02 AM - A Review that was done on my Etsy Store ...
Current mood: loved

It sure is a scary feeling to get reviewed, at least it was for me!

Here is the review from Cindy at CidTalk on etsy:

http://www.evesoriginals.etsy.com

Banner
Eve's banner is nice, however, her artwork is sooooo charming and delightful I would love to see it more clearly displayed at the top of her shop. I like her font and the colors, it simply doesn't do justice to her excellent drawings.

Sections
I like a lot of sections. Eve has 8 and none of them are empty. In fact one section has 82 items..82! I wish I were that energetic. I love browsing through each section. I don't know what Valley of Seasons or Ancient Times mean exactly, but her artwork is whimsical and full of imagination, so I'll go with it.

Profile
Whew, that is one informative profile. I love it. She shares things about her family, why she's an artist, and shipping information. It's very versatile.

Shop Announcement
Eve's shop announcement is a little long for my liking. I can't criticize. I know people like to give out some information there on the main page of their shops. I just prefer to see art and stuff right up at the top, nothing else. I would love to see those beautiful cards right at the top under the banner instead of all that verbage.

Artwork (Items)
I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy Eve's artwork. I am partial to the black and white drawings, of course, but they are also so cheerful and lighthearted. I look at each one as a little story in itself. I have some of her cards and an ACEO..they are all wonderful. The quality of everything is superb, well crafted, done with care. If you are looking to get a grin, giggle, or happy moment out of your day, this is the place to shop.

Descriptions
Every description I read in this shop is just right. Each one is a little story of its own and she takes the time to give her work lots of personality. It's fun enough to look at her work, but then to read her descriptions adds so much.

Overall Impressions
Love it. What else can I say? I would love to see more distinct artwork in the banner, and less words in the announcement, but that's a personal hang up. Eve is a classy woman who does nothing but top quality goods and excellent customer service. I look forward to browsing and buying more in the future.

Well, whatdayaknow :)

I have never had someone critique my store or artwork for that matter before, now it's happened and I was unsure first when I was notified that this would happen soon. So I sat tight and hoped for the best, and this was it. Phew...it didn't hurt at all, and I thought of my...by the time they get done I'll be seeing a leg piece over here and an arm over there...my nose in that corner and my fingers in that other one. Just kidding...not quite that bad, but this review as it is,  honestly did not excpect. I'm very humbled & honored that it was done and what was said :)

Blessings to all

1:10 AM - A Goddess to behold...
Category: Art and Photography

So I meant to feature this wonderful artist this past Monday and instead I had to deal with a personal matter, but here is the feature:

So you all know that I started a shop on etsy, right?! Of course I went browsing to see what others are selling one day and I happen to come across this sellers shop that offered smudge sticks. I happen to love a very wide variety of smudge sticks. I also had noticed that she hadn't sold an item in a while and wanted to make sure she was still business so I wrote to her and she mentioned to me the variety that she has for sale and I ordered some. A short time later she displayed a beautiful hand knitted goddess in her shop and I was taken aback totally impressed by the way she had created her. Right away I put in an order for one of her goddesses and when I received her I was totally astonished and in awe.

~~~UPDATE 09/25/09:~~~
I have indeed ordered another goddess from her and no sooner did I pay for her 2 days later she was at my door filling up the aroma of wonderful Patchuli at my door entrance. before I even opened the package I knew I would love this one as much as the first, and so it was! To my surprise she now also creates mermaid style goddesses. Since I am an aquarius by sign you bet I will have to get one as a custom order from her as well. Yes I have completley and utterly fallen in love with her knitted creations. Some will say addicted and I will not deny that!
To see what she is up to next or what her newest creation is visit her myspace page at:
http://www.myspace.com/greenfingersgoddesses
~~~End of UPDATE~~~

Don't get me wrong here, I knit & crochet and do many of the old traditional crafts like cross stitch and things but when I saw the goddess and how she was knitted I just about lost my speech. The curves, the neatness of the whole doll was incredibly put together. The smell from her fresh harvested lavendar came through the box before I even opened it. So of course I started having many many questions for the artist. Then decided I will just come right out and ask her some of these questions, and here is what became of it:

Eve:
Tell us a lil about yourself that one does not get from the bio profile on etsy:

Green Finger:
Oh it's always such a challenge to figure out what people want to know! But I'll give it a shot. I'm married and I have two energetic, intelligent, highly entertaining stepchildren. My sweetie and I are trying to become more self-sustained, including self employed! We've been learning how to garden, and preserve food, for a few years. I have to say I do better with my herbs than I do with the vegetables . . . I'm not sure why that is, except the herbs make me so happy and have so much personality. It helps that most herbs really are just weeds and they don't need much from me in order to thrive--some water now and then, and plenty of love, which is easy to give them. This year we're putting in a flower garden, for cut flowers, and next year my partner and I plan to acquire a couple of sheep, because eventually I'd like to produce my own fiber for my creations. It all sounds very ambitious, I know, but we take things one step at a time. We will start with just a couple of sheep, learn to care for them, shear them, etc., then learn how to process the wool in to yarn and then to dye the yarn. This is a long term plan, but it's exciting to see it begin to unfold.

I received my first reiki attunement in early 2001. Earlier this year I received my reiki 2 attunement, and I'm going for the third, master-level attunement in October. Eventually my dream is to support myself with a combination of healing arts, selling herbs and flowers, and selling my goddess themed art.

I've been aware of the fact that I walk an earth-based path since late 1999, and since then the changes and growth in my life have been astounding. There's been so much to learn about myself and the universe we live in, there's no way to really express it, but I'm sure those who have come to a pagan or similar path understand the way the universe unfolds before you when you open your eyes to the possibilities. It's humbling and empowering all at once. I feel truly blessed to have found the path I am walking, and look forward to what's coming.

Eve:
How did you come about making these goddesses?

Green Finger:
I woke up one morning with the idea in my head, and just dove in to the knitting, making it up as I went along. It took an amazingly small amount of tweaking to get the design to work--I feel it has to be divine inspiration.

Eve:
When did you start making these beautiful goddesses?

Green Finger:
I started making them about a week before they showed up on my Etsy shop! So that would be three weeks ago, around August 24. I made two prototypes before I made the first one I posted on Etsy.

Eve:
How long does it take you to make one of your goddess dolls?

Green Finger:
You know, it's kind of hard to say. For one thing, it varies wildly depending on the yarn I'm using. Some yarns are easier to work with than others. For example, the home spun types of yarn are really lovely, but the inconsistent thickness of the yarn means I have to work harder to avoid dreaded holes in my knitting. The body itself isn't terribly time consuming--two to three hours, again depending on the yarn, and how many times I'm interrupted by my kids, the phone . . . the real labor is in the details, the stitching on the bodies. That, again, varies depending on what kind of stitching I'm doing and how much of it there is. And that doesn't count, of course, the hours I spend harvesting herbs and hanging them up to dry, then preparing them to put in the goddesses and making the herbal blends. I don't use oils to get my fragrances, they all come from the plants themselves, so getting the balance right is sometimes interesting.

Eve:
Up to how large can you make one?

Green Finger:
So far all the goddesses are roughly the same size--between 10 and 11 inches in height. I tried making a larger one once and she just looked sort of grotesque. I am, however, in the process of developing a smaller sized one, but I want her to be just right, so it could be a while.

I invite you to visit her shop and browse for your goddess or if you are in need of smudge sticks, this artist has the goods for you! Besides the fact that she does awesome custom work as well, she's a seller with flair & grace. Her customer service is beyond words and she is sweet as blueberry pie :)
I know I will be ordering another one of her wonderful goddesses in a short while. They make wonderful gifts for anyone that could use a little magick and a goddess in their life :)
