What's to come? A little bit of everything. I've also been busy pitching, I'm desperately trying to get into Mad Magazine, never realizing how awesome it would be to write for the mag until I started putting pitches together. I have other pitches out to Writer's Digest, Slate, and Rolling Stone, as well, and I'm readying some stuff for Nerve.com and more Mad pitches. I placed an article at Northern Virginia Magazine profiling independent bookstores, as well.
But, for now, I have to get back to the day job. I have three papers to write by Friday to be included in a week-long conference in New Orleans. I am very excited by my all-expense trip down there but I have to give two talks and present a poster in exchange for the free party. Oh well.
I have downtime today! I slept 9 hours and gave myself 10 hours to take a 4 hour trip! I needed this slight break, I'm beat to fuck.
The road trip's been great. I'm in Grants, New Mexico now and driving out to Flagstaff today.I get to see the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, and Meteor Crater on the way - nice! I'm going to see The Dark Knight today, too. There's been two articles posted on DCist so far so far and the third's going up today.
Everything's fine, I'm re-energized, I'm meeting tons of cool people, and I have no regrets.
Four hour meeting at the Smithsonian yesterday and an 8AM meeting at Andrews Air Force Base today (which had me out the door at 6:45AM. Too...many....meetings
So....it looks like my coast-to-coast look at comics has landed a near-daily dispatch publisher. I didn't want to just post the updates on my blog since, you know, not a lot of folks read my blog. So updates are going to be posted at DCist starting with an overview of the DC scene and why I'm doing what I'm doing next Monday.
I'm going to be accumulating data for an eventual bigger articles or series of articles, this will be more of an information dump. Who I'm meeting with, what I'm learning, stuff like that.
I'll be sure to post links when it get started. The decision to go with DCist stemmed from the fact that I didn't want to do it on a higher-profile site than your traditional comic site or blog. I didn't think the Newsarama/CBR crowd would really be too into my daily ramblings about non-Marvel or DC happenings and the comic blogs don't really get the amount of traffic something like DCist gets. So I think this would be a good way to get wider exposure, especially since I can easily direct the comic folks to the DCist posts.
