I've been away too long, I fear

The winds of change are oh, so near

Soon the summer will bid sweet adieu

The sultry nights will be far and few

I've stayed away too long, I feel

Licking my wounds, trying to heal

I missed these months of lazy heat

Now almost over, it's bitter sweet.

I've been inside for far too long

Sings the locusts with a song

You can't get back what you have lost

It's sealed in Fall's first frost.

I've stayed inside, ruled by fear

While life slipped by, that much is clear

I've missed so much, tucked away

Living in a world of grey.

I should have welcomed it's warm embrace

But it became another thing I just couldn't face.
