Randomness at it's finest. (Okay...maybe not *finest*) lol
Current mood: happy
Category: Life
The past few days, we have been running around like crazy people trying to find a nice, but cheap armoire for our bedroom. We finally found one and things are starting to get organized around here.
We don't really have a lot of closet space in this house. We don't have a linen closet or anything like that, so for a few years, I have been using a diaper changing table in our bedroom to store sheets, etc. It drove me crazy because it always looked sloppy. Let's face it, even when sheets are folded...they still don't look neat. I have yet to find a way to neatly fold a fitted sheet!
Now, I have an armoire and everything has a spot behind closed doors. It looks WAY better!
Excuse me if this is ridiculously random, but that is how my head is working today! lol. My next topic is kind of about politics.
I was talking with my mother about wanting to become a citizen so I can vote. I was saying that I pretty much knew which side of the fence I was on but I just wanted to investigate a little bit more before I would "register" with a particular party. Her reply to this statement? "What is there to think about?" "Obviously, you will vote how your husband votes!"
Am I the only one that is freaked out by this statement? Isn't the whole purpose for me having a brain being able to use it? Is it wrong for me to have my own thoughts and ideas....separate from what my husband (or anyone else for that matter) has? Does that make me a bad person, or is my Mom just stuck in the dark ages?
I'm curious, how do you do it? Do you and your spouse just automatically vote for the same people, or do you disagree sometimes when it comes to politics?
Random topic number 3: American Idol, of course! So far, in my opinion at least, the girls are definitely kicking ass! There were a couple of stand out guys, but the girls that stood out, really STOOD OUT!
LeKisha blew me away with her vocal abilities!! Apparently, a lot of other people felt this way too because when trying to vote last night, it took forever to get through for her! I also loved Melinda, Jordin and Gina.
I really can't wait until tonight to see how America voted.
Ha, I guess this isn't *quite* as random as I thought. Politics, American Idol...it's all about voting! lol
Is there anyone that you are pulling for so far in the competition? Who did you vote for? Is that one of those questions you aren't supposed to ask people? lol
Have a great day!!

Monday morning rant...I should just throw out my T.V!
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
My rant this morning is about T.V. I just want to know why every time I start to get into a show, they up and move it to a different night or time slot!! In the past year alone, this has happened with "Medium", "Las Vegas", "Numb3rs", "Grey's Anatomy"...the list goes on and on!
This year, for the first time, I started watching "The Apprentice, LA". I've never watched it in any other season but for some reason, this season, I've been getting into it. So, you can imagine my disgust when at the end of last night's show, they say "tune in 2 weeks from now for The Apprentice at it's new time"! Apparently, now it is going to be on at 10pm on Sundays now, instead of 9pm. Well, there goes that show....I watch a different show in that time slot...that is, until they decide to change that on me too!
Why do they feel the need to do this all the time? Am I the only person that is annoyed by this?
I *think* the braniac reasoning behind these decisions, is to get people interested in the show and then to move it, hoping that they will steal the viewers away from a different show with similar ratings. I can think of no other reason.
The problem, at least for me, is that I'm faithful. LOL. For example, I have watched CSI forever. I love that show, the characters, the story lines...I'm *invested* in the show. So, when they moved "Grey's Anatomy" to Thursday nights in the same time slot as CSI, I just refused to turn my back on the show that DID NOT 'betray' me by moving! LOL.
Seriously folks, this is really starting to get on my nerves! I'm beginning to think that I should just throw out my T.V and be done with the madness!! LOL

We might as well just starve ourselves to death!
Current mood: worried
Category: Life
What is the problem with food these days? It seems like every time I turn around, there is something else on the shelves making us sick and being recalled or taken off the shelves! What exactly *is* safe to eat, anything?
In the past couple of years, we've had the Mad cow scare and e-coli scares with meat. Last summer it was spinach and lettuce and now, it is Peter Pan peanut butter and Great Value peanut butter! Apparently, if the product code begins with 2111, then it is possible it is contaminated with salmonella! You can read the story here.
If you go to the FDA's website, you can find all kinds of things that have been recalled!
Seriously, what is up with all of this? Is it safe to eat anything? The scary thing is, a lot of it is stuff that is supposed to be good for us! Why does this sort of thing seem to be getting more common in recent years? What is changing that all of this stuff is getting contaminated so often?
I don't know the answers, but I know it freaks me out! It is hard to keep up on all of the warnings and recalls that are going on. Even some cat food is listed on that site! Our poor pets aren't even safe from it!
One of the most irritating parts of the whole thing is when they give you a little snippet of the story during the day...something like: "If you eat peanut butter, it may kill you....news at 11"! This will pop up on the T.V. about 15 minutes after I just fed my daughter peanut butter for lunch! And now I'm watching her like a hawk all day to see if she's going to survive until I get the whole story on the news at 11!!
I had a fit when I heard the little snippet because that is pretty much what happened! Zoe is the pickiest eater on the planet, and she eats peanut butter every day....it is the only sandwich she will eat!! Thankfully, I don't buy Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter, but that doesn't mean they weren't giving me a heart attack until they gave up that important piece of information!
Sorry, I'm straying a bit from my original point..lol. Anyway, my question is, what exactly are we supposed to do to protect ourselves here? Set up a little mini farm in the middle of the city, complete with cows, chickens, fruit and veggies in our own back yard? Would we be breaking any by-laws by doing this? We might as well just starve ourselves to death, at least then we would know what is killing us!

I really want to vote!
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Life
You know, I have lived here for 6 years already! The time has just flown by. I want to be a citizen! That, obviously, has been my goal since I married my husband but it is rather expensive and it keeps going up every year!
At the moment, my "official status" is "Permanent resident without restrictions", which basically means I can do anything that everyone else can do, *except* vote. I find this a little curious because, at least to me, that seems like a bit of a restriction, doesn't it? LOL.
Anyhoo, with the Presidential election approaching, I really want to be able to vote. I do live here and plan on it for the rest of my life. My daughter is a U.S. citizen and I would also like to be able to speak for her. The problem is nerves (I suck at tests) and cash. It currently costs $330 to take the citizenship test. I don't know about you, but that is a lot of money for a test to me! I'm nervous because everyone I know here says that they don't even know half the stuff on the test (there are sample questions online)!
I was considering writing to a politician and telling them how badly I wanted to vote in the upcoming election but that I don't have enough money to take the test. I decided against it because I was afraid they might look at it like a bribe or something, which, for the record, is SO not my intention! LOL
I'm really scared to take the test. I've always been very intimidated by tests...the pressure gets to me! If the pressure gets to me on a regular run of the mill kind of test, imagine how I feel for this kind of thing! First of all, it is a very important test and secondly, the cost factor. I mean, that is a lot if I fail and I know I couldn't afford to take it again.
Okay, enough rambling about my silly insecurities and lack of cash flow! LOL.
Here is something you may not know: Did you know that when you become a citizen, you are legally allowed to change your name at that time? You can change it to whatever you want! I thought about it and then decided against it after talking to my mom about it. She was terribly insulted that I would want to change my given name!
Here is my question to you, just for fun of course. By looking at my picture, what name do you think suits me, just based on appearance?

Pssst...come here, I'll let you in on something
Current mood: bored
Category: Games
My friend Amanda was tagged to tell 10 weird facts about yourself. She tagged whoever wanted to be tagged, and that would be me, since I am bored silly and have nothing else to do right now..lol. So, here it is, 10 weird facts about me! Some of them you might already know, but hey! LOL
1. I have a very strange love/hate thing going on with words. There are some words that really drive me up the wall (no, I'm not telling you what those are! lol), and then I have words that I just love to work into a sentence if I can because they are just great words! People usually tell me that this is really weird!
2. I can't fall asleep unless I am actually touching my husband. It doesn't matter how...even if it is just my toe touching his leg or something, I just find it comforting.
3. I DO NOT like my food touching on my plate! Everything has a spot and there is always enough space between things so they don't touch. I even make a hole in the middle of my potatoes for the gravy so it doesn't touch anything else on the plate!
4. If I have several items on my dinner plate, I eat one thing at a time. I eat all of one thing before I move on to the next.
5. I like it when someone plays with my hair, I find it incredibly relaxing!
6. I have one specific coffee cup that I use in the morning. For the rest of the day, I could care less which cup I drink out of, but in the morning it is always the same cup!
7. I can't fall asleep unless I'm on my stomach. Once I'm asleep, I move around constantly, but to get there, I have to be on my stomach. This was a big problem when I was pregnant!
8. I get these hideous red blotches all over me when I am feeling any extreme emotion! It is really embarassing but there is nothing I can do about it! I also have a pet peeve concerning this. Someone that doesn't know me very well, always seems to feel the need to point it out to me. This, in turn, makes the blotches worse. They look at me like I have some horribly contagious disease and I secretly want to go and rub myself all over them just to freak them out!
9. I'm afraid of thunder. Although, I have to say, I'm getting much better since I had my daughter. I keep it under control because I don't want her to pick up my stupid fear!
10. I can cross one eye and keep the other one straight

So, there you have it. 10 weird things about me. If you want to be tagged, then consider yourself tagged!
On a different note, does anyone know what kind of flower this is?

Spring has sprung faster than it should...at least according to retail!
Current mood: cranky
Category: Life
Stores really irk me. I mean REALLY irk me! Why are they all so damn eager to get the next season's clothing on the shelves? It is unreasonable, at least to me, that when it is only the 11th of February...the coldest part of the year...you can't buy anything weather appropriate! What is up with that?
My grandmother's birthday was at the beginning of January. She wanted a flannel nightgown. Sorry Grandma! Not going to happen because the stores started fazing out the winter clothes right after Christmas! So, if I wanted to buy her a nightgown for her birthday, she will have to wait months before she can wear it! What kind of a stupid gift is that??
The zipper on my daughter's winter coat broke yesterday! I phoned all over the place today to see where I could buy one, and can you believe ONLY ONE STORE HAD ANY??? It is 20 friggin degrees here today. By Wednesday, we are supposed to be back to zero...that's right, ZERO, and you have to search high and low to find a jacket to wear!
On the up side, when I did find one, because they are trying to get rid of them all, I got a $50 jacket for $15!! That is a great deal, if you ask me!
But seriously, am I the only person that this drives crazy? This happens all the time! They have sundresses out in February and winter coats on the racks by the end of July! Who made up this stupid rule anyway? They should really get a swift kick in the ass, if you ask me!!

When boredom sets in...
Current mood: bored
Category: Life
I'm bored, so I figured I would do some silly quizzes. Hey, what? You might as well join in my boredom too, right? LOL
Your Language Arts Grade: 90% Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know "no" from "know." Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes).
Are You Gooder at Grammar? Make a Quiz ..>| What American accent do you have? Your Result: North Central "North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. Ramble on!
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Life
Jim, Zoe and I went out to dinner last night at Perkins. I go there because I really like the Broccoli Chicken Alfredo. Anyway, we got there, sat down and started looking over the menu. I couldn't seem to find my Alfredo and then the waitress tells me they no longer offer pasta on the menu!
NO PASTA??? How can you run a "variety" style restaurant and NOT offer pasta?? I was extremely disappointed and ended up just having a side salad for dinner. It was good, mind you, but definitely not what I had my heart set on!
On the up side, we know we won't be going there for Valentine's day. We'll have to find somewhere else to go. Maybe we will find somewhere we haven't been and discover it is great!
On another note, tomorrow is our 6th wedding anniversary. I can't believe 6 years have flown by already...where does the time go?? It is definitely true that it flies by when you are having fun, isn't it? And when you are miserable, it drags on and on!! So, the fact that it has flown by is a great sign!!
Unfortunately, Jim has to work tomorrow, so we can't go out and celebrate or anything, but I'm sure we will have our own little celebration when he gets home from work!
Also, today is AngelicPoetWithHorns' birthday!! Stop by her page and show her some birthday love!!
Hope you all have a great weekend

"Sweet Release" Blog-O-Lympics
Current mood: peaceful
Category: Writing and Poetry
This is a poem I wrote a little while ago. I decided that this is the one I wanted to post for my last blog in the Blog-O-Lympics, hosted by the great AngelicPoetWithHorns
"Sweet Release" I close my eyes And picture you I feel the heat rise in my body Yearning, burning, chruning Passion makes my body quiver With anticipation Of your touch Your lips Your caress My body fidgets With uncomfortable arousal I want to pounce Like a wild tiger Ripping at your clothes Scouring, empowering, devouring With impatient lust And love Take me now In your strong arms And fill the need The deep hunger Quench this dehydrated body Sweet release Our bodies spent We are one again You are mine I am yours Forever.

Questioning??????
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Blogging
You know, I will freely admit that I just realized how much of an idiot I am. All this time I've been blogging and a few things were just thrown at me that I can honestly say has never occured to me. Maybe I'm a little thick in the head, maybe I'm naive.. who knows.
I, and those who know me very well, know that I am an honest person. Sometimes ridiculously honest. In fact, it is the trait I am most proud of about myself. I find being called a liar to more hurtful and insulting than anything else. I honestly would rather be called anything else...even a slut or bitch. See, the thing is, you can somewhat prove those things aren't true, but how do you prove you are telling the truth? There isn't always a way to prove that.
I started blogging as a release. I was trying to get through a painful experience and I found this place and it actually helped me get a lot of it out. During the process of doing that, I met some wonderful people here. Because of that, I opened up and started feeling comfortable sharing my life with all of you. What never occured to me, is that people wouldn't believe me.
With this epiphany, I realized, am I the only one that feels this? I assume that what I'm reading is truthful, unless it is written in a comedic fashion. Am I wrong to do this? Am I just a naive idiot with her head in the clouds? I mean, why would someone lie about there experiences? I acknowledge that it is possible, but I guess I just choose to believe that people are honest...unless they give me some reason not to believe them.
All of this has thrown me for a loop. I really enjoy all of the great people I've met here and interact with on a regular basis. Call me an idiot, but I actually consider them my friends. I mean, to me, you don't have to physically be in someone's company to enjoy their presence in your life, do you?
Is it wrong to take what you read at face value? Should we doubt everything we read until it can be proven true? I realize the internet is full of creeps and weirdos. I realize that there are a lot of people that pretend to be someone else, but it never occured to me that that would be true in this type of forum. For me, I expect that in a chat room or something, where someone is trying to impress you or "get with you" or something. What would be the purpose of lying here?
Everyone blogs for a different reason, I suppose. When I blog, I am actually gearing it to the people I interact with on a regular basis. I'm not saying that new readers wouldn't be nice, but generally when that happens, it is through someone else that is already a subscriber. I gear it towards my little group of blogger friends and (maybe stupidly), I assume that they consider me a friend too.

Where have I been? Blog-O-Lympics
Current mood: nostalgic
Category: Travel and Places
When I was younger, I was able to travel a little bit...with my parents, of course! My parents went to the U.S every year for vacation. Generally, the destination was south but we always drove, so I was able to see a lot of the country that way. It was pretty fun, for being with my parents..lol.
The funniest part of the vacation was that my Dad always ended up getting us lost and famously (at least to our family) ended up in the worst possible part of town. Coming from Smalltown, Ontario, Canada, you can only imagine how scary it was when we found ourselves in the middle of "the projects" in Detroit, Michigan! It was pretty bad! I kid you not, it got to the point where we didn't even stop at stop signs because we actually were witnessing cars being stripped and jacked when they did stop. We got the hell out of there as fast as we could!!
By far, the funniest memory I have from one of these vacations was this: We were trying to find a motel to stay for the night after driving a considerable distance that day. We were tired and my parents were fighting. We finally found one and pulled into the parking lot. My parents are still fighting and my dad says "Where is the damn office?". My mom, being very irritable, sees an open door and yells, "right there!", pointing at the door. My dad then gets out to go and get us a room while my Mom and I waited in the car. He was almost there when we realized that it was in fact NOT the office, but someone's room. My dad did NOT notice this, and walked right into the private room and tells them that we would like a room. My mom and I at this point knew exactly what happened, and we were still in the car, laughing so hard the tears were rolling down our cheeks and our stomach hurt!! My dad didn't think that was too funny! LOL
When I was about 14 (ish), my friend's parents asked if I would like to come to Acupolco, Mexico with them. After some begging and pleading, my parents decided to let me go! It was a fun vacation. It wasn't the fanciest of hotels, but it was across the road from the beach and we were there every day all day long! A few days into the trip, I was so burnt, I could barely move! I couldn't even eat and I ended up losing 10 pounds by the time I got home and we were only there a week!
My friend and I met 2 hot mexican guys that we ended up spending a lot of time with. I will never forget them, there names were Hector and Jolese! "Mine" was Jolese and he was really hot!! They were really nice and we had a lot of fun, even though we didn't speak the same language. Nothing sexual happened, as we were young, but there was some definite kissing going on! LOL. When we were getting ready to leave, he gave me a bracelet....I still have that bracelet to this day as well as a picture of us sitting on the beach.
After that, I went to Venezuela with my parents. It was beautiful there and I would have probably had a lot more fun if I hadn't been going through a major rebellious stage, where being with my parent's was about the last thing on earth I wanted to be....even if it was a nice vacation!
I kick myself in the ass now, for not experiencing the fun that I could have had, if I hadn't spent so much time moping around!
In my adult life, the only place I've been is Las Vegas. I've been there twice. The first time I was there, I got married. Although I wish that part of the trip never happened, it was the best vacation of my life. My brother, who passed away a year ago, and his wife went with us and we had a blast! We gambled and checked everything out and rented a car so we could drive to Death Valley, just because I wanted to. It was an amazing trip and even though, as I said, I would rather forget the marriage part, I wouldn't trade those memories for anything! This is where we stayed for that trip:
The Luxor The hotel was egyptian themed and was gorgeous. When we were there, the hotel had just been built. The rooms were fabulous and the hotel itself was a blast!
The second time I was in Vegas was just a trip. My ex-husband and I just went and it was alright, but not nearly as much fun as the first time! The most memorable part (and disgusting) of the whole trip was when we went to the Stratosphere for dinner one night. We went to the buffet, got our dinner and sat at our table. The lady sitting at the table next to us was alone and it was painfully obvious that she was INSANELY drunk!! This became even more apparent when she threw up all over the table and floor and then fell face down in her food! Needless to say, I wasn't hungry anymore!! This is where I stayed the second time I went to Vegas:
Bally's This was also a really nice hotel. Lots to do, gorgeous hotel and rooms!
Since then, my travelling has consisted of "home" and "back home". Meaning, where I live now, in NY state, and where I used to live in Ontario, Canada.
My dream vacation is this:
Who knows if I'll ever make it on an Alaskan Cruise, but that is my dream vacation and hopefully, someday, it will come true!!
Where is the coolest place you've ever been?
The Blog-O-Lympics are hosted by the notoriously naughty AngelicPoetWithHorns!
