In this cage

of fruitless echoes

I dwell,

waiting.

doomed to fail,

leaning at the edge.

poised for the faintest breeze,

but met only with

the howl of those echoes

rising out of the abyss.

echoes which resonate

void of meaning.

Some old artwork that I found on my backup drive.
Current mood: calm
Category: Art and Photography

Here it is as old as it may be... it was lost in a tragic turn of events... so I feel the need to display it here. Maybe this will rekindle a spark in me...

The New GOP Buzzword: Fascism
Current mood: pissed off

"Typically, the Bush administration finds its vocabulary someplace in the middle ground of popular culture. It seems to me that they're trying to find something that resonates, without any effort to really define what they mean," Fields said.

Look how completely on top of the beating pulse of the 'Conservative GOP Hypocrisy' I am. For the past month I have been looking into how disturbingly identical the methods of the Bush administration are to Fascism (in its true meaning -- not what the Bush administration is bandying about) and look what they do: start labeling other people with "Fascist" to diffuse the attention of the 'American Cattle' and prevent them from catching on to their ill-methods.

Shame to the GOP! Their intolerance and slanderous ways will catch up with them some day. I hope it is sooner than later. They deserve to be thrown out of office for treason and locked up in a maximum security secret prison where they have electrodes attached to their testicles and are shocked until they're broadcast on International Television and admit to and aplogize for, being hypocrites and liars to the entire world. Then they can go live their happy little rich, fat, white-man lives in shame somewhere in suburbia where they all deserve to be exiled to forever for their crimes to humanity.

Quote Log - Pt. 1: Tyranny & Fascism
Current mood: uncomfortable
Category: News and Politics

In light of recent events, I thought to look to history to possibly learn a few things about the socio-political changes we have lately in the priviledged nations that have become The World Powers over the past 200 years.

It seems as though even the Founding Fathers of the United States are rolling in their graves over what is currently happening to the nation that they forged with their own blood. These truly are sad times for everyone on this planet... it seems now that all we can do is keep trying to live and do our damned-est to help each other and to understand one another. Speaking your mind is now considered unpatriotic and was once Constitutionally protected as one of your inalienable rights as a human being. Speak your mind early and often. Never shut up. Here are the quotes from today that I thought relevant to my mind-spiral.

----------

There are two passions which have a powerful influence on the affairs of men. These are ambition and avarice; the love of power, and the love of money. ...Place before the eyes of such men a post of honor, that shall be at the same time a place of profit, and they will move heaven and earth to obtain it. The vast number of such places ...renders the British government so tempestuous. ...[and is the true source] of all those factions which are perpetually dividing the nation [and] distracting its councils...
-- Benjamin Franklin

The welfare of the people in particular has always been the alibi of tyrants, and it provides the further advantage of giving the servants of tyranny a good conscience.
-- Albert Camus: French novelist, essayist, and playwright.1957 Nobel Prize for Literature. 1913-1960

A great wave of oppressive tyranny isn't going to strike, but rather a slow seepage of oppressive laws and regulations from within will sink the American dream of liberty.
-- George Baumler

The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home.
-- James Madison: US fourth president, 1751-1836

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
-- Benjamin Franklin

America: Freedom or Fascism?
Current mood: distressed
Category: Godspeed You! Black Emporer News and Politics

America Has a BIG PROBLEM

The liberty of democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic STATE itself. That, in its essence, is FASCISM ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power. -- President Franklin Roosevelt

THE IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS OF FASCISM

By Dr. Lawrence Britt
Free Inquiry Magazine / Spring 2003

The 14 characteristics are:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism -- Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights -- Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to 'look the other way' or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause -- The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military -- Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism -- The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

6. Controlled Mass Media -- Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or through sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in wartime, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security -- Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined -- Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected -- The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed -- Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts -- Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment -- Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses, and even forego civil liberties, in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption -- Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions, and who use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections -- Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against (or even the assassination of) opposition candidates, the use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and the manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

----------
Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, studied the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile). He found the regimes all had 14 things in common, and he calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The article is titled 'Fascism Anyone?', and appears in Free Inquiry's Spring 2003 issue on page 20.

Pop Icons and Unpopular Presidents
Current mood: aggravated
Category: News and Politics

I am going apeshit on this blog action today it seems...

As you can see, history repeats itself... but only becomes worse at the same time.

I mean look at Elvis, not so bad of a guy... he actually made good music. He forged a new path in music, actually could write a song (even if the lyrics are generally a bit vapid) and had a decent sound.

Then look at Nixon, not the worst President ever... he was a lying cheating scoundrel, but at least he admitted to it.

Now take a close look at the second photo, that there's Bono with good old Dubya -- this is quite possibly the single worst thing that I have ever seen. Ever.

Now, sure Bono goes around the world working his egotistically egocentric humanitarian magic on the unfortunate people of the Earth... but does he have to be so fucking vain all the time? Furthermore, I might let the vanity slide... but the fucker cannot even write a song for his life. At least if he were a good musician I could see the vanity, but Bono just plain sucks. And don't give me the "oh, but Joshua Tree's a great album" argument -- the only thing that made that album worthwhile was the fact that Brian Eno produced it. After Brian Eno stopped working with U2... *poof* There went anything interesting that they may have been pulling out of their ass.

Then we have good old Dubya who coined new words in the American English language such as "misunderestimate." What's there not to like? Everything. This bastard lies, cheats, steals, bullies and browbeats the entire world either into submission or a catatonic fear of threats that are no where near as dangerous as he purports them to be -- all while denying that he's guilty of any error, travesty or crime. Everything this man does is transparent, self-serving and morally bankrupt. All this criminality and injustice from the man who touts the 'Red Badge of Courage' known as Christianity like a broad axe. Fuck him. Fuck his bullshit. Fuck his ugly face.

Whew. All that being said, this just goes to show that pop icons and unpopular President's have something in common -- complete and utter self-absorption that simply must be maintained no matter what it takes. We are screwed as a race people, unless we wake the fuck up.

A Day in the State of the Groundhog Union
Current mood: accomplished
Category: News and Politics

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address fall on
the same day. As Air America Radio points out, "It is an ironic
juxtaposition: one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a
creature of little intelligence for prognostication, and the other involves
a groundhog."
