It’s happening! - april update

Today we had around 4000 visits and 2500 music plays...

This is a good thing! and hopefully a sign of things to come as people start playing the tunes and sharing them round.

This is "my kind of song"...{Great, soulful vocal with feeling; complimented with great musicianship in a soft-rock-ballad packaging!}

Overall lyrics, arrangement, recording, production was excellent!

I can hear this as a "move soundtrack", or for a theme song for one of those primetime, nighttime tv shows like ONE TREE HILL, or OCTOBER ROAD.

I would predict that I would "LOVE" anything this band has to offer based on this one song alone! I hope I am priviledged to hear more by them soon!

Review of Finchley’s Contraflow
I’d like to start by saying that I’m for the most part overly picky about music, hard to please I suppose. Finchley does some really great things in this song, at first listen I got a very Coldplay feel, upon second listen i noticed a very Nick Drake, Radiohead, or even Matt Pond PA. I’ll not keep listing bands, I really enjoy the acoustic/indie rock sound they are getting. all of the takes are very Very good. Lot’s of dynamics in the percussion, and nice piano work as well, the mix sounds balanced although I could go for a little more drums. I won’t go as far as to tell other musician’s how to structure their songs, maybe just keep me guessing a little more, this song overall is great!

I really like how you blended in the piano and the electric guitar in there. The vocals fade in and out nicely, and the songs just flows well. Maybe if you did some more harmonizing it would add to the song a little more, but that’s about all I can think of that could improve this song. I liked out the ending of the song was different than the rest of the song, because I usually don’t expect much difference. Overall, you guys did a good job on that track. Keep up the good work and keep writing songs.

Fantastic!!!

Finchley, have an awesome take on the industry with this great track Contraflow.

Now I’m very weary about new bands and such at the moment simply because what they have to offer seems exactly the same as what is already available out there. As record companies try to imitate the last best thing, I’ve found that one band seems to sound pretty much the same as any other!

But this is not the case here! Thankfully!

I think this would be a great contender in the world of Publishing and I could very easily hear this on some of the A list American series’s like CSI, House etc etc.

A British band with their finger firmly on the pulse!

They sound reminiscent of Cold Play as well as many other Great bands - but with the added bonus of bringing something very new and unique to an already saturated industry.

Contraflow! Beautifully written, produced and recorded. This is definetly a 1 hit - this will smash the industry wide open! World Wide!

Struggle On

You know it’s amazing being a songwriter some times.

You can spend months writing, arranging, performing songs... and days and days getting the perfect mix or ’take’ when recording...

..and sometimes a song comes in a matter of mins and just captures a moment or a thought perfectly.

Struggle On is the last track on the album No Clouds and is the most stripped back - just me and a piano done in two takes and yet it’s the song I get most feedback about.

Just in the last week 3 people from different parts of the world have contacted me via myspace or facebook to say how much the song has meant to them in their different (and pretty tough) circumstances.

It’s really blown me away and I’m so encouraged about my song writing. Struggle On is a bold one lyrically where I just wrote exactly what I felt God was saying. I could have been barraged with abuse for daring to be prophetic but the current and previous comments I’ve had are the exact opposite - it seems to have been a real support to people.

The background to the songs on ’No Clouds’

So someone asked me today about the background of the songs on the album, after writing to them I thought I may as well share with everyone:

Good Enough
...is about a couple of my friends - one boy one girl who can never get over their past and I wanted to give them God’s perspective on it

Some Day
...some people just never seem able to get it together and just drift eh? You just hope the message sinks in that there’s so much more

This Journey
...love this track! It sums up my twenties and relationship with God

Contraflow
...song about growing up, and commitment! - currently the ’single’ from the album. Probably the song I’m most happy with in terms of arrangement and musicianship too.

Proud
...the most recently written song - literally two days before the studio session I was leading worship and it came as a spontaneous song of what God was saying at the time. Such a privelage to be able to record it straight away!

Walking with Angels
... the song that started it all - gave the sound, direction of the EP then the album. It’s a song literally about walking with angels - but not realising it

Son Spots
...when you’re just blown away by love

Santa Theresa
...written about the experiences and the way I felt on the beach of the same name on Costa Rica

Prodigal
...my version of the prodigal son parable that Jesus told.

In the Wind
...the one the muso’s like :-) It’s all about hearing God’s voice anyhere

Sailing
...a day dream set to music :-)

Struggle On
...the song I get most feedback about as being a ’support’ to them. It’s about what God might say if we just listened
