Takeover!
Hello Its Andy (aka Don) here, since Matt couldnt do the show this week, I thought i would write a little bit for the blog....
Firstly, sorry dear listener(s) the show started nearly ten minutes late due to my being distracted by a lovely meal, and plenty of tea. To make up for this appaling state of affairs I shall be doing an extra hour 11-12... yup 2 hours of Restless Funk for the price of one
Ball-ache of the week this week was the cancellation of "Wild Combination" (the Arthur Russell documentary) screening at the Junction2 as part of the Film Festival, Matt had ordered us tickets for a screening at the ICA in London, then we noticed it was showing in Cambs cancelled our London tickets and bought Cambs tickets...then they cancelled BASTARDS. Rant over sorry Kind Soul(s) of the week, my friend Geoff (and wife Kate) for feeding a hungry, skint moi...bless 'em.
Day trip of the week was last Sundays trip to London town for the Loft party (as ace as ever). I found myself in London with a few hours to kill so I went for a wander to Hill Fields Burial Ground and took a gander at the final resting place of William Blake. As gravyards go, it was pretty nice and even had a picnic spot.
Hour One The Fly Guys- "Fly Guy Rap" Arthur Russell- "The Deer In The Forest Part1" Rhythm & Sound w/ Tikiman- "Spend Some Time" The League Unlimited Orchestra- "Do Or Die" Hawkwind- "Child Of The Sun" John Cooper Clarke- "Health Fanatic" (Live at the Poetry Olympics 1982) Bad Manners- "Bang The Drum" (Dub Version) Erykah Badu- "Bag Lady" (Basement Boys Remix) Nikki O- "Flowers N My Bed" Norma Jean Bell- "Late Night Show" Osunlade- "The Year Of The Monkey 'Mr President'" The 5 Stair Steps- "Ooh Child" Ths Sisters Of Righteous- "That's How I Feel"
Hour 2 Coldcut vs Peter Thomas Orchestra- "Peter In Space" Willy Mason- "Oxygen" Tunng- "The Pioneers" Money Mark- "Hand In Your Head" Arthur Russell- "Lucky Cloud" Richard & Linda Thompson- "Down Where The Drunkards Roll" Anne Briggs- "Standing On The Shore" Karen Dalton- "It Hurts Me Too" Cannonball Adderley- "Sack O' Woe" (Live) Serge Gainsbourg avec Jane Birkin- "Ballade De Melody Nelson" Jane Birkin- "Jane B" Saint Etienne- "Constantly" Francoise Hardy- "Je Ne Suis La Pour Personne" Arthur Russell- "Tone Bone Kone" Beth Orton- " I Love How You Love Me" Arthur Russell- " Our Last Night Together"
Over & Out, cheers for reading/ listening Love from Andy x

Flood the place
"Fashion is a form of ugliness that is so intolerable we have to change it every six months" - Oscar Wilde I'd not heard this quote before and it made me chuckle. Phew, lots happened recently, happy birthdays to Donski, my sister Anna, Layla & Jessica, Lucy, all last week. Layla ran a half marathon on sunday in the New Forest (so called as it was planted in the 18th century to help provide wood for ship building so I'm told). We went down there last thursday night to stay in a rented cottage, friday involved a paddle in the sea with a seafood picnic on the beach, whilst saturday was taken up by a cycle round the forest. Pics to follow! After I'd got Layla safely back to the pub after her race (1h45ish) I headed back to the smoke for the London loft party "Journey Through The Light". I didn't know the way, so just ploughed through central London, blasting out a CD I'd made earlier in the month. I particuarly enjoyed "Southern Man" by Sylvester and the Hot Band from this CD, so it made perfect sense when David Mancuso played it later at the party - one of those much talked about "Loft Moments", and I mentioned this to David who just grinned and nodded knowingly. Big shouts to Scott, Angela and Charlie, Alex and Ced, Tim and Jem. Food was mental as usual, double helpings of veggie filo pie, pilau rice and various curries followed by berry cheesecake and bacclava, chocolate fudge brownie, strawberries & cream - I'd pay £25 just to eat there dammit, let alone join the party. Tunage was okay, nothing really grabbed me although the following stood out: A Man Called Adam - Techno Powers LCD Soundsystem - Freakout/Starry Eyes Brian Auger - Listen Here Other stuff played at the party; Musique - In The Bush Ned Doheny - To Prove My Love Sister Sledge - Lost In Music Holy Ghost - Hold On Idris Muhammed - Could Heaven Ever Be Like This Loleatta Holloway - Strong Enough Luna Project - Wanna Be Free The Quick - Zulu Automagic - Smoking It Dr Rocket - Cafe De Flore Mass Production - Welcome To Our World Heaven 17 - Play To Win Charles Earland - Drifting Gary's Gang - Keep On Dancing First Choice - Dr Love Demis Roussos - LOVE Got A Hold On Me Funky Junction & KC Flightt - Voices The Arthur Russell documentary is out this week (they've got a myspace page, look it up) and I'd booked tickets for the showing at the ICA - couldn't get them for the opening night with Tim Lawrence and the director doing a Q+A session as it sold out double quick. Then Andy told me it was showing in Cambridge as part of the film festival, so I cancelled the ICA tickets and booked for Cambridge. When I went to pick up the tickets from the Arts picturehouse they told me it had been cancelled and Full Metal Jacket was being shown instead! Bastards!. So it looks like I'll have to re-book for London, grrr! Spoke to Tim about the bio he's writing about Arthur and I thought it was ready and would be out around the same time as the film, however he told me it's not scheduled for release till next autumn - bummer. Restless Funk Radio Show 19/09/08 Playlist: Bjorn Torske - Hemmelig Orkester Excerpt from the Happy Birthday party songs LP Unknown - The Body Clap LCD Soundsystem - When Someone Great Is Gone Martin Luther King - I've Been To The Mountain Top Unknown - I Fought The Law And The Ray Gun (JAZ Edit) Dillinger - LSD Jehst - Adventures In New Bohemia Digital Mystikz - Misty Winter Pizzy Yelliot - Could You Be Loved (Mungolian Jestset 303 Acid Mix) Ost & Kjex - Hasta Luego Manchego (Martin Hornvedt Remix) Rhythm & Sound - Truly (Vadislav Delay Remix) Idjut Boys feat. Rune Lindebek - Lasin (Original Mix) Manna - Eksistensiell Dub Archive Download/Streaming Link: http://archive.cur1350.co.uk/archive/CUR1350_2008.09.19.21.mp3 On The Stereo This Week: Golden Jooklo Age - Tropical Trip (Qbico Zeta) New heavyweight crazy shit from the italian, just look at the artwork, who gives a fuck how it sounds (although it sounds good too!) Checker Kabb - By My Side/Satellite Band - Rejuvenate The Fonk (People's Potential Unlimited) Ebonycuts got a label - nuff respect, proper reissues and a few edits so far, check "Earcave" for distro. MIA - Paper Planes (Interscope) Seriously late on this - Donski played a version on the radio a little while back and I dug it, then the spods on DJH started raving about it and I caved in - sorry, but TUNE! If we ever put out a record or whatever, squirrel is doing the photography (obviously Scott's got 1st dibs on the artwork): (Although I'm a bit worried we're starting to look like the Chemical Brothers...) Gig Alert: Andy and I are DJ'ing at the Fountain Inn on Regent St, Cambridge this saturday night from 12-2am - free entry!

Drink, Feck
What tings be gwan? Well, been busy as mentioned before, tons of birthdays upcoming so I've been racking my brains thinking what to get peeps... Also, Layla and I went to the coast and ate ice cream and fish n chips, yum! Double Yum! Needed some change for the car park - handily there was a shop next to the car park selling home made cider - I wasn't sure that the location (i.e. tempting drivers) was the best idea, but I grabbed a bottle anyhow - good s**t... Afterwards we had a cup of tea on a boat, while being serenaded by a four piece doing folk and some sea shantys, with mucho audience participation ;-) On the turntable this week:
John Cage + Terre Thaemlitz - JC + TT + SF EP Been a fan of Terre Thaemlitz for a minute, John Cage's experimental stuff is kinda new to me but I dig it. Combination of the two is pretty mind melting, nice 14 minute ambient jazz freakout on this, weird kid doing poetry on the flip - I couldn't resist! Ghost Note - Holy Jungle Took me a while to pick up on this, I was finally convinced by the midnite mushrumps blog (check it, moonboots was guest blogger last week). It's the original mix that does the damage, heavy guitar action & deeper than the ocean beats, mmmm.... Dialogue lifted from Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain midnight movie. Bought the box-set of Jodorowsky films a while back - El Topo is bonkers but watchable, Holy Mountain is some of the weirdest shizzle I've had the privelege to entertain my senses with - couldn't really distinguish a plot - couple of chicks get down while freaky priest watches, cut to wierd american mid west, townsfolk are revolting, then everyone turns into frogs and blood starts raining down. Hmm. Mark E - Sun Shadow 12" (Edit of Labelle - Moonshadows) Mark E on it again, love the Labelle track, moonshadows - first heard at a loft party with David Mancuso; Balearic Mike dropped Mark E's edit on a recent mix, I was trippin', it's bad. Migrating Bird - The Songs Of Lal Waterson Bought this as a birthday pressie for one of Layla's sisters. While I was listening to the tracks I fell in love with them and promptly ordered the vinyl sampler for myself (picture disc - natch).

Pinky
Yeah, we went to the Pink Festival here in Cambridge on Saturday, it turned into one of the best parties Cambridge has seen for a while. Horsemeat disco (www.horsemeatdisco.co.uk) were playing some records with Clare Harriette in the disco tent, whilst I was twirling with my pink balloon down the front, clearly enjoying myself a little too much... Layla and I, clearly ignorning everyone... Restless Funk Radio Show 01/09/08 Playlist: Ron Carter - Anything Goes Aretha Franklin - Save Me Jay Z - Change Clothes Sylvester - Over & Over Maurice Fulton - You Changed My Life My Bloody Valentine - Glider (Andrew Weatherall Remix) Lynn Collins - Rock Me Again & Again & Again & Again Metro Area - Rhythm Reel 6 Roxy Music - The Main Thing (Dance Mix) Jalaluddin Masor Norridin - Mean Machine Buzzcocks - Noise AMoys -----Break For News----- Esther Phillips - There You Go Again/Stormy Weather (Medely) Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer Ry Cooder - She's Leaving The Bank St Etienne - White Post Lane Soft Cell - Memorabilia Marcus Mixx - Without Makeup (Ron Hardy Remix) Strange Sounds Orchestra - Strange Sense Of Liberty Womack & Womack - Love Wars (Extended Mix) Plunky & The Oneness Of Juju - Every Way But Loose Eurofunk - Manshortage (Eli173 Edit) Metro Area - Honey Circuit Download/Streaming Archive Links: http://archive.cur1350.co.uk/archive/CUR1350_2008.09.01.19.mp3 http://archive.cur1350.co.uk/archive/CUR1350_2008.09.01.20.mp3 A couple of more professional photo's now, taken by our good friend squirrel: A very civillized dinner party... Horrible belligerent chap
Donski was on tip-top form this week on the radio as you will hear... It's been busy these past few weeks, hence a lack of chit-chat; been to the coast (wells-next-the-sea), DJ'ed at Chez Le Funk (google it!), went to Fordham fest (hawkwind and optimo!) and we've got the Pink festival here in Cambridge this coming weekend, with Horsemeat Disco!!!
