Gaming History 2
Current mood: bored
Category: Games

I probably should have done this one first as it’s where it all started really.

System 3’s Flimbo’s Quest released in 1990 and developed in Holland by Laurens van der Donk, this was the first game I ever played when my C64 arrived at christmas of 1991 and I loved it, well more so than Fiendish Freddy’s Big Top o’ Fun, International Soccer and Klax.
The first click of the switch and you get a brief loading screen (Thank you cartridge) followed by some pretty good music for the system, although most games of the era had fairly similar sounding music. The gameplay revolves around collecting scrolls for the wizard Dazz Bazian in order to save Flimbo’s girlfriend Pearly from the mad scientist Fransz Dandruff. The scrolls can be found by shooting certain enemies ranging from snails to badgers to antelopes to various flying enemies (You know the usual birds, bees, anything that flies.) these vary from level to level but are mostly similar in movement. Super scrolls can also be collected in the levels which helps to complete the level quicker. It is also possible to buy scrolls from Dazz Bazian although this is much more time consuming and given the time limits on the levels isn’t always the best option. Graphically, this didn’t really push the envelope for it’s time although it isn’t completely hideous.

All in all this was a good game for me to begin with, I could have started on something truely horrible and ruined my relationship with gaming but this was fun and simple, which there really isn’t enough anymore, maybe more developers should take a look back at what they did right before they try to make a new version of a classic (I’m looking at you Sonic Team).
Anyway woohoo second installment done hope you enjoyed it and look forward to a 16 bit edition when you next read this.

My gaming history.
Current mood: good
Category: Games

Just trying something different, might make this into a little mini series, probably post it around t'internet.

The year is 1993, the 16-bit era is well on it's way and the 8-bit Commodore 64 is well on it's way out and it needs a swansong. Queue stage right Mayhem in Monsterland, a 2D sidescrolling platform game in which you play the role of Mayhem the Dinosaur, a yellow triceratops. It was made by the guys at Apex Computer Productions who were behind the Creatures series for the Commodore 64 and would best be compared to Sonic or Mario, unfortunatly it was a bit too late for the Commodore 64 to get a mascot. The gameplay revolves around the two types of worlds, the sad world and the happy world, in the sad world which is grey and dull with slow music, Mayhem is forced to collect bags of magic dust in order to restore the world to it's former happiness once this is done there's a small cutscene in which Mayhem presents the magic dust to the apprentice wizard that is responsible for the sad worlds so he can restore the hapiness, this cutscene was something that I remember very well purely because of the weirdest noise Mayhem makes when he presents the dust.

After this, the happy world revolves around collecting a certain amount of stars in a much brighter, more vivid and louder version of the same world.
Given the console this game was on it was certainly one of the best for it, and it's probably one of the most important games in my history of gaming, seeing as it was one of the first I really played properly, even at age 6 I was enthralled by this game, when all that really held my attention at that time was the TV. Despite all my friends playing their Sonics and their Marios, which are still important to me, this game is still way up their on my all time classics list.
You should definatly take some time to check it out, whether it be via emulator or getting an original copy, if all else fails and you have a PSP, check this out; Mayhem in Monsterland for the PSP

Mass Effect Sexual Content
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Games

As you may all well know, I'm more of a gamer than a rollerblader these days and I read into a lot of things on various websites, mostly Kotaku.com, I love those guys. But for the past few days there have been some articles relating to ill educated "journalists" attacking the game Mass Effect for it's supposed sexual content. now having not actually played the game I'm not going to go into any specifics but, I have seen the scene in question, and to quote Kotaku's Luke Plunkett, "No sack, crack, lady nipples or dangly bits = totally kosher" There is absoloutly no problem with the scene in question, it's just the age old perception that video games are bad, and only children play them, I mean why would any self respecting adult waste his time on video games? Maybe they were just bored of the films and TV programmes that show the same thing on a daily basis.

Now I know I'm probably not the best person to be taking the moral high ground on sexual content in media but the simple idiocy of the articles in question annoyed me, you could at least see the scene before you judge it to be too much for children, and besides the game's rated a 12 by the BBFC probably for the sexual content alone, so the blame for any "child" seeing the sexual content is entirely down to the idiot parents.

Oh yeah, I'll give you a link to the scene and the articles on Kotku too:

Petty nonsensical irritance.
Current mood: bored
Category: Life

I've been broadening my horrizons lately, that's right, I've been on Facebook, and the one thing I've noticed is how petty people are, take these two groups for example;
"No I don't want a free London Lite/London paper. Fuck off."
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4741697228&ref=nf
And,
"I Dont care How Comfortable Crocs Are, You Look Like A Dumbass."
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204667614

"NO I DONT WANT TO 'FRESHEN UP' I JUST WANT TO HAVE A PISS!!!"

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2250427107

Now, I don't know about you, but to me these are all really petty things to be bitching about, esspecially to be making a group on a webstie about, granted some of the titles did make me snigger a little but, if you can't deal with these things or situations then you must be pretty socially retarded after all there's no need to tell someone trying to make a living out of giving people free papers to fuck off, and the freshen up guys in toilets are pretty fucking annoying but I find if you're generally ignorant of them they leave you alone, after all it's not like these things are going to greatly effect your life.

Only a short rant today, I've been a busy bee after all, quite suprised i'm nearly up to 2000 blog views, now come on people read more it's good for your brain.

No TV and no PS2 Make Gambia something something.
Current mood: cranky
Category: Life

Right, I have no TV at the moment so I just have to vent a little.

Firstly, without my TV I can't play my PS2 or my Wii, so I'm resorting to my DS at the moment which has been rinsed a little bit, seeing as I only have 4 games for it anyway due to lack of funds. ALSO, by the time my TV is actually fixed it'll be the start of college and I'll have no need for it as I'll just be doing college work all the time.

But, perhaps this is a blessing in disguise, what with all the shit on TV at the moment and the cunts on "reality" shows maybe I'll be a bit calmer, and won't make a cunt of myself on my first day of college, probably not though.

Seriously though, what is the deal with these "reality" TV shows, there's nothing real about 20 odd people in a luxury house. It's not a house at all, the average British household does not have a jacuzzi and a swimming pool, ok, so the average British household might have a caravan parked in their back garden because there's shitloads of fucking pikeys and idiots with caravans in this country, but half the country doesn't even have an electric cooker so why should they get one whilst we're sat at home cooking on a gas stove. Here's an idea for a "reality" show, lets round up a load of cunts from former "reality" shows let them all run off into some woods and have a pack of wild cats chase the fuckers down, I'm sure it'd be much more interesting to watch.

There I'm done, and I actually feel much better now, still pissed off about the TV though, but at least it didn't actually blow up.

Children's Literature
Current mood: happy
Category: Life

No doubt some of you losers will have got up esspecially early today, just to go to a book shop to by a certain Harry Potter book. I won't say novel because, it's a children's book, and generally, they're not novels.

But in all seriousness, why? Why sit out in the cold and the dark just to buy a book? This casual observer would say, there's no reason for you to be sitting and waiting for a children's book, after all the majority of you aren't children. I mean if I strolled into a book shop and asked for a copy of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", a book from my childhood which I hold quite dearly, I'd get a very strange look from the person behind the counter, seeing as I'm far too old to be reading it myself, and don't look the type to be reading to children of my own or anyone elses (It's the eyes). Infact I have recieved a strange look when buying some little miss books for a childish ex-girlfriend.

Back to the matter at hand, I think you all need to grow up a little bit, granted I read manga but that's actually good and I'd reccomend that you read some too, instead of the regular pile of wizard garbage you get churned out, or just wait for the film like everyone else, at least that way you won't get papercuts(thanks Dingoose)/won't be reading a children's book, you'll be watching a children's film, which is much more acceptable, I mean I watch Finding Nemo all the time.

Anyway, on a slightly different note and seeing as I've strayed onto films, I caught a brief trailer for Transformers The Movie the other night whilst watching Hero on Film4, I have a strong urge to go and see this film, so if anyone else wants to come see it with me, along with The Simpsons Movie, then let me know.

This rant has been pretty tame, maybe due to the new love in my life or the fact that collectively you've viewed my blog over one thousand times, Thanks for that everyone, but as I always say, leave me some feedback don't just lurk, granted I'll probably get some more feedback for this because HARRY POTTER IS SHIT!

Also, http://machodance.ytmnd.com/ click that.

Much love, Gambia.

Video Game Censorship.
Current mood: angry
Category: Games

Now, I'm gonna jump on a bit of a bandwagon here, because, video game censorship has made the news recently.

But, I'm not going to go the way you think I will, well I probably will mention the Manhunt 2 situation at some point, but not right now.

So, a couple of weeks ago I'm catching up on the news (Yes I have started watching BBC News 24 seeing as there's nothing else on TV during the day.) and low and behold what do I see, the Church of all people, taking Sony to court, over a part from Resistance:Fall of Man on PS3 which is in a cathedral in Manchester. Now this seems just a little over the top to me, I mean, Sony must have got the proper rights to use Manchester Cathedral after all, they wouldn't just barge in take a load of mesurements and just whack it in the game, that doesn't happen. Real world places have to have permission to be used in games just like they do when someone wants to shoot a film there, and Sony being the big company they are wouldn't have though otherwise. But, another thing that has got me pissed off about this, is that in the game you're not even killing people in the cathedral, secondly the "aliens" that you're shooting at aren't even humanoid and thirdly it's set in an alternate reality. So, my two cents on that is that it makes no fucking sense to take them to court over it because, and this is gonna be hard for some of you to grasp, IT'S A FUCKING GAME.

Secondly, I just rented Burnout Dominator as my local library have just got a load of new games in and this too is also censored unnecessarily. I've been playing this through, and after doing a little censorship to protect my ears, namely removing all the shit songs from the play list, I suddenly realised when listening to the version of  "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis it dawned upon me that EA have taken it upon themselves to censor the word "hell" in this song, now I don't know if they've realised but "hell" isn't a fucking swear word, fuck is and no doubt they'd censor the shit out of me but they can't. Also, they included Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" in 4 different languages, even though it's only the chorus that's different. This is also heavily censored. Now the PEGI rating on this game is 3+, now would you let your three year old sit and play this game? I certainly wouldn't if I had one, it's just not suitable, oh except for the music, that's fine.

And now, the main event, Manhunt 2 was recently banned in the UK by the BBFC for this reason stated by the BBFC director David Cooke, "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game."

Well Mr. Cooke, it would seem that you didn't mention any film comparisons there, yet you gladly give the Hostel and Saw films 18 ratings when their violence is in no context whatsoever and bearing in mind the last game to get banned in the UK was Carmageddon which was then un-banned after much deliberation, and if I rember rightly by todays standards it's not that bad, just think of it as a Deathrace 2000: The Game. Hopefully rockstar will appeal and Sony and Nintendo will sort their acts out so I can get round to slaughtering some people mercilessly and stop writing these fucking blogs.

Well I hope you enjoyed this as much as me, leave me some comments or something, it's always nice to get feedback.

More Celebrity Justice and Police Brutality.
Current mood: angry
Category: News and Politics

Now some of you may have seen, that Paris Hilton has left prison again after 24 days on the grounds of  "good behaviour" yeah, sure, probably more like a good sum of money. After the judge sent her back in I was over the moon, and he even said she would serve out her full sentence and the other day I find out she's out after 24 days, I was not a happy bunny to say the least. I've just about given up on America(except for one person who knows who they are.) Esspecially after seeing what leads me onto my next topic.

Some of you may have seen this video on youtube, Now for some reason all you PC pricks seem to think there's something wrong with this guy doing his job, This isn't police brutality whatsoever, seeing as he cuffs them, and he's not even choking anyone, those kids are in headlocks which exert no strain on the neck. The people that have asked for the officers resignation are the worst kind of pricks. I hope the next time that you're getting robbed/beaten up/raped the police don't come, to do their job for you. There's a law stating those kids aren't allowed to skate there and they're breaking that law, so he can use as much force as neccesary to restrain them, if he had used his baton or mace then yeah that would have been taking it too far but he doesn't so you're all fucking wrong and I'm right haha.

Celebrity Justice
Current mood: angry
Category: News and Politics

I'm angry, I've not long got up and I've had the news on this morning as it was on when I got up and I'm angry at the American legal system and Channel 4.

Firstly, the American legal system, WHAT THE FUCK? 30 days>4 days. Why is Paris Hilton out already, she's not ill, I don't beleive that for a second. If a normal person was complaining about being ill they'd be sent to the prison doctor surely, So why is she out of prison? Probably paid for it no doubt, if she does get put back in prison hopefully they'll throw away the key, if not maybe she'll crash her car and die when she comes out, we can only hope.

Secondly, Channel 4 trying to show that they're not promoters of racism, when we all know that everyone is racist anyway, apparantly, according to the media anyway, because you can't actually say anything anymore. So, instead of taking "the moral high gournd" Channel 4 are now encroching(sp?) on peoples freedom of speech. And another thing, this isn't even being said in a racist way at all by the way so don't give me that shit, why is it ok for two black people to walk up to eachother and use the word "nigga" as a greeting whereas if a white person says it it's considered racist, after all it's just a word right. I wonder what Channel 4 would have done if one of the black girls had called one of the white girls a honkey? Probably nothing.

Well I'm still gonna call all of my white friends honkey...

Right I've vented my anger at the world now I'm done for now.
