tour recap and general ponderings
hey, freaks- i hope all is well out there. i'm officially getting an "i've been up way past my damn bedtime and have been traveling all day, am exhausted and running on fumes and for some odd reason am still awake" headache. so, it's time to hit it, but i did want to acknowledge my gratitude for the past couple weeks on the road. joey ryan and jay nash are amazing and wonderful, and we had some serious fun. i feel i grew as a person and as a musician just being with them. they also both have new records coming soon. check their myspace pages if you haven't already. plus, joey is a really nice bed partner. very accommodating and quiet. thanks, joe. really, though, the whole trip was special. i'm thankful to have been a part of it. i think there will be more to come. thanks to all of you who came out and supported us as well. without you, well, it would've proven far more challenging in terms of feedback. it's nice to know there's a contingency of people out there who actually enjoy hearing and seeing live music being played. that works out really nicely for us touring musicians. i learned a lot this past week about a lot of things. one thing i learned is that gas is fucking expensive on the west coast. this is some bullshit. i'm not sure what the answer is, but can somebody please fix it? i'm so not down with the price situation. thanks as well to all of you who turned out in nashville for the cancer benefit that took place in nashville, sponsored by loren penmen and the family of tammy hart. it was so special to be a part of such a rally of support and hope. i feel truly blessed to have been there. there's some stuff that's been posted by fans and observers on youtube from the past couple weeks of dates. personally, i'm terrified of how instantaneous everything is now, but i suppose it comes with the territory. i still think people can see me from inside my computer sometimes. especially when i'm instant messaging with people. i swear they can see me. but i hardly do that instant message thing anyway. whatever. ok. i'm officially about to pass out. check the usual spots for tour dates... the myspace page is getting a facelift as soon as our buddy sarah gensert and her crew over at stump'd designs get it going- be on the lookout for that. more to come. i recorded a couple new songs in la two weeks ago- there's talk of an ep coming soon. keep your eyes peeled for that as well. sleep well, chickies and dudes. talk soon. love, g

mailing list....
hey, everybody. i hope all is well in your worlds. i'm sitting in joey ryan's aunt and uncle's kitchen, drinking some really strong coffee jay nash made, digesting a nice breakfast of fried eggs and toast. things could not be better at the moment, all things considered. i'm learning from jay nash that i'm very disorganized, so i'm asking all of you to make sure you sign up on my mailing list at garrisonstarr.com, and i promise i'll be better about dragging a list around from show to show. we're burning up the west coast- it's a lot of fun and very tiring. thanks to all of you for your support and love- keep spreading the word around. word of mouth is so important for the growth of this project. it's as indie as it gets at the moment. i love it. :) be well. talk soon.
love, garrison

a whole new year
hey, whoever you are... happy new year! i just thought i'd reach out. it's late here in nashville, and it's freezing. i'm glad, though, because i was afraid tennessee was gonna miss winter altogether. it just didn't seem normal. and that freaked me out. i guess ol' al gore has a point about global warming. even my parents have started buying those compact fluorescent bulbs. did you realize that the word "fluorescent" was spelled like that? initially, i had spelled it "flourescent". like flour. totally wrong. i was suspicious, so i looked that shit up. i'm glad i did. i pride myself on being a good speller. there's always an opportunity to learn something, grasshopper. stick with me. you'll see. anyway, back to my parents and the bulbs... anytime i'm around my parents, inevitably they'll refer to "your ol' buddy al gore" or "your pal hillary"... i suppose all us crazy open minded thinkers are conspiring against people who would rather sleepwalk through their entire lives. it irritates me, but i take it as an inadvertent compliment. they're also fond of saying "so and so is a nut". usually it's a "liberal". whatever. they're buying the energy saving bulbs. the evil liberal message is seeping into their subconcious. i want to share one more little fun fact with you. surely you've heard me rave about my EMUs. they look like UGGs, but they're 1/3 of the price. that is to say, the price is nice. hahahahaha. sorry. anyway, i found out recently that EMUs are the original UGGs. they're made by UGG, and in the beginning, the UGGs were cheaper. for whatever reason, the UGGs are the ones that took off, so there you go. the point is, i'm cutting edge, and my cutting edge shit is cheaper than an UGG. that's all for now. i hope whatever you're up to is enriching your lives in some way. remember, GARRISON STARR IS BETTER THAN CAT'S, and don't forget to spread the word about how much you love me. see you soon. love, garrison

tracy bonham and other delicious thoughts
hey you people, i'm laying here listening to my buddy tracy bonham's "blink the brightest" record. what an unfortunately overlooked album. it's so damn good. take a listen at tracybonham.com. i recommend "something beautiful" and "all thumbs" immediately. she's a wonderful human being on top of having a ridiculous talent. i think i'm house-sitting for her cat this weekend in brooklyn. he has some hilarious name like james carter or something. i hate cats, but i love tracy. anyway, come out to housing works this friday night if you're in nyc. i'm playing acoustic, and i'll be wearing new pants. i'm rewarding myself for the MRI i had last night for my back issue. not fun to be in that claustrophobic, very loud cylinder for 20 minutes, unable to move. scary. but i'm ok. i just made sure i was looking out the top. i survived it, and for being such a good girl at the doctor, i bought myself new pants, a new t-shirt and a radical new jacket. yes, i said radical because it kicks ass. just wait. i found this place in nashville, a little boutique that has great clothes called POSH. it's across from FIDO for you nashville people. it's pricey, but it's worth it. you gotta treat yourself. i also watched a great movie last night.... "broken english". parker posey is actually acting in this movie, and she's brilliant. really great. check it out. at least, i loved it. what else..... don't forget to listen to stephanie miller... stephaniemiller.com. i'm gonna see margaret cho's sensuous woman show off-broadway this weekend as well. i'll let you know how that goes. i'm pretty excited. i think they're in ny for 6 weeks or so. what are y'all doing? see you soon. oh, and don't forget to pre-order your copy of "the girl that killed september" at garrisonstarr.com. g

hello, everybody. hope all is well on this sunday afternoon.... i can't believe it's almost the end of the year. what a year it's been, really. can i just tell you how obsessed i am with that kimora reality show on bravo? i think it's on bravo. she's this bitch model/designer who's richer than god, and it's kind of awesome. i've totally been sucked in along with everybody else!! so, i'm working hard to spread the word about my new record, "the girl that killed september"... i've been rehearsing like crazy for the upcoming shows- the new songs sound great. i'm pretty excited about it. i hope you'll all come out and see it for yourself. check the schedule- we've got some good shows coming up through the end of the year. check out the new record as well, and if you love it, spread the word. i'm putting it out myself, so i can use your help promoting it. that's it for now- thanks to those who showed up in birmingham. despite the fact that my back is toally jacked up, i had a great time. be well. talk soon! garrison
