songs from the Triple Door
The good folks at the Triple Door were kind enough to record my performance a couple of nights ago. I have posted three of the songs (Fearless, Night Sky, and Lay Them Down) for a short time.
There are pictures from that night that I will be posting soon.

Triple Door, Club Passim, Sisters Folk Festival
Hi everyone,
Its been a long time since there was more than a show or two on my "tour calendar".
I'm actually visiting two states other than Washington in the next 30 days. Whoa.
Maddy is very excited. And Gabe doesn't know what he's in for, but he will be excited too. They are coming to Oregon with me for the Sister's Folk Festival. I am one of the finalists in the Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest, along with Rose Polenzani, Sarah Sample, Brad Colerick, and Rita Hosking. I'm really looking forward to hearing all of these fine folks, and playing some songs, too. http://www.sistersfolkfestival.org/dave_care.html
(We are looking for a house concert or coffee house show in Portland on Friday, September 5. Something kid friendly. Interested? Email me at hollyor@gmail.com)
This will be Gabe's first "tour". He will have JUST turned 5. He is one of those kids who started reading before he was 2, and knows the inner workings of the solar system better than most adults. He recently wrote a song called, "Choking to Death" after I told him to "stop running around with carrots in your mouth, or you are going to choke to death". It is Metallica meets Sesame Street. Here he is playing "Choking to Death" on my fiance's guitar.

Upcoming shows that I have already told you about, but bear repeating:
Friday, August 22nd, 2008 Conor Byrne 8pm Seattle 1/2 hour solo set
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 Triple Door Seattle, WA w/ Jonathan Byrd http://...com/5c966x
Saturday, August 30th, 2008 Club Passim Boston, MA noon-1:20pm in the round w/Ryan Lee Crosby, Dennis Crommett and Jacqueline Francis http://clubpassim.com/campfire/ (hint: buy the weekend pass. Stay for the whole thing. Totally worth it.)
Saturday, September 6th, 2008 Sisters Folk Festival Sisters, OR
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 Green Frog Bellingham, WA w/Meg Hutchinson http://www.acoustictavern.com/
(I love Meg's music, and am excited to hear her perform. Plus, I get to play too, which is fun.)
That's it for now. If anything else falls into my lap, I'll be sure to let you know.
OH...one more thing...
If you call the City of Seattle and are on hold, you might hear a familiar voice...

Happy late summer!

spring, spring, spring...concerts and...stuff.
Dear you,
Oh, its sunny here in Seattle. Sunny and occasionally...snowing.
But its fine, no, really...its okay. It could be worse. Ahem. I’ll take the sun. And the snow.
I am working on a new record. When I say "working on", I mean thinking about working on. Writing for. Contemplating. Imagining. Singing a lot. Writing a lot of words. Humming melodies at work.
For those of you who have asked, I am working as a Pediatric Auditory Brainstem Response Technologist at a Seattle hospital, which is just a very fancy way of saying that I test newborn babies’ hearing for anomalies and defects. Its a fun job. Plenty of opportunities for humming melodies to soothe infants, and no one gives me strange looks for humming to myself in public.)
I am booking shows. Local shows. (May 2, Birthday Show at Conor Byrne! With Jeff Fielder and other special guests. Details on the website.) And when I say "local", I mean Washington/Oregon/California. And a couple of other states.
And maybe the UK. (The UK is local to people who live in the UK, right?)
And maybe elsewhere. I know I need to get my A$% to Virginia, because every time I send out a message to this list, 20 people email me back right away and say, "You need to get your A$% to Virginia!
I know. I know. I know. Its been too long. I haven’t played in Virginia in almost 8 years.
So..I have the opportunity to go to Virginia in August, to speak at the very first Indiegrrl Conference. I haven’t booked any other shows on the east coast, and I would really like to, because that is how I will be able to afford to come to Virginia! If you are in Virginia, and you want me to play a house (or otherwise) concert for you in August, email me at hollyor@gmail.com and we can talk about details.
(As always, if you are in Seattle/Oregon/California, and you want me to play a house concert for you between now and September, email me at hollyor@gmail.com soon! I am playing some outdoor concerts and festivals this spring/summer, and my weekend calendar is starting to fill up.)
I have been getting a lot of performance requests for out of state/country shows and house concerts, and I love you for the requests! I love to travel, but it has to make sense for me to go to where you are. And by "sense", I mean money. In other words, it has to not cost me more money to go somewhere than I end up making from the door or donation and cd sales. I can travel anywhere! As long as I can afford to get there and back and not pay my electric bill with a credit card when I return. Little things like that.
Did you know that you can buy the records that are out of print (and the other ones that are not, of course) on CD Baby? You can buy the whole record in MP3 format. Its really easy. Details at http://cdbaby.com/mp3
And links to the records that are out of print:
Live in New York City http://cdbaby.com/cd/figueroa4
Three Chord Plea http://cdbaby.com/cd/figueroa
And the ones that aren’t out of print:
Dream in Red http://cdbaby.com/cd/figueroa2
How It Is http://cdbaby.com/cd/figueroa3
Gifts and Burdens http://cdbaby.com/cd/figueroa5
I think that’s it for now. Enjoy your spring! More news soon.
xoxo

Fearless...again.
Thank you for your emails of kind concern after listening to and reading "Fearless".
Yes! I'm fine! No! I did not get my heart broken.
This is written for someone who felt like he needed to rush to commitment because he was afraid I might go elsewhere if he didn't.
Commitment can not be made out of fear. It has to be fearless.
I really want that message to come across in this song. Its really important to me that it does, so thank you for your feedback...I see a rewrite in my future. xoxo

Fearless
Its been a while. Hope your holidays were great.
I'm in school full time and working part time and its kicking my ass. I love it, though.
Not touring a lot, but am writing a bit.
I just put up a new song called "Fearless". Its a crap demo I recorded on my computer, but you can get the idea.
Hope you like it. As always, happy to hear your thoughts.

Fearless © Holly O'Reilly 2008
when you decide babe, when you come around you won't want to ask me to stay from fear of what you'd miss
when its time when your ready to lay it all out you have to ask me to stay because you are fearless
i found a love i found a true heart i've never known such trust and pain before
i make no secret i harbor no doubt that you are the one you are the one, i've been waiting for
so when you decide babe, when you come around you can't say forever when you doubt like this
you take your time fear cannot make a sound you have to say you want me when your fearless
