7 years ago today....
Current mood: content
Category: Romance and Relationships
As most of you know, this year was not a good one for my family and I. For that reason, instead of reflecting upon this past year, I would like to reflect upon exactly 7 years ago today.
December 31, 1999 was mine and Jim's first official date. I arrived here from Canada 2 days earlier, our first official meeting in person, and New Years Eve, which is also his birthday, we went out to celebrate. We went to a bar for the night. They charged a $10 cover charge and it included food, all you could drink, and a free individual sized bottle of (cheap) champagne. Pretty good deal, if you ask me! So, the plans were made and all was settled.
I was excited, in love and raring to go! Unfortunately, about 6 o'clock in the evening, I had taken a pain pill (totally without thinking!). In case you are wondering why, I have long suffered with endometriosis and was having a particularily bad pain day, so I took the pill to try and ease the pain a bit, and completely forgot about taking it.
Anyhoo, fast forward to the bar. I was a little out of my element, as it was a bit of a "biker" bar of sorts. Neither one of us are bikers, but Jim has lived her his entire life and knows some people. As long as we were together, I didn't care where we went! Things were going very well. We were having a good time chatting and drinking some beer. I only consumed about 2 beer when I became completely baffled as to why I was getting entoxicated already. I was talking his ear off about anything and everything, holding my bottle of beer in my hand and waving it all over the place (and spilling it too..lol) as I talked.
Jim was pretty amused that I was entoxicated so easily and I was still confused as to why I was so tipsy....I am Canadian, after all...used to Canadian beer....us Canadians can handle our beer if nothing else! Needless to say, I cut myself off pretty early so I didn't make a complete idiot of myself!
I remember the night went by very quickly and before I knew it, it was midnight and we were counting down to the New Year! We ended up having a really good time and had a fabulous kiss at midnight (which, I might add was just a prelude to the fun when we got home...hehe)!
It wasn't until the next day that I realized why the alcohol hit me so fast! I felt like a big boob!
One year and one month later, after going through the entire immigration process, I moved here to be with Jim forever. One month after I got here, we were married, and the rest, as they say, is history!
These last 7 years have been an adventure. We have gone through a lot of stuff....a baby that I was never supposed to be able to conceive, some personal and financial struggles and family tragedy. Through it all, we have managed to remain in love and happy with each other. I have never regretted my decision to move here and take a huge chance at real love. I expect another 7 years from now, I will be just as happy. I will look at the little individually sized cheap champagne bottles that I still have on display on a shelf in my kitchen and I will be thankful for the life that we have made with each other.....I'll just be getting old and wrinkly while doing it..LOL!
Happy New Year to all of you!!!

I'm going to be a pain in the ass!
Current mood: indescribable
Category: MySpace
I'm finally going to break down. After almost 3 months now of not being able to send messages or IM here on myspace, I've finally decided to just make a new damn profile and start all over again. This has been terribly frustrating to me and after exhausting all other options, I don't really see any other way around it.
So, here is the pain in the ass part: I'm going to set up a new profile, I'll still go by the same name, but obviously I will have a different URL. I'm going to have to send out new friend requests to all of my friends and I hope you all add me again. I will continue to hold on to this one until the other one is all set and ready to go (I will let you all know when that is so you can delete this one if you want).
I hope this isn't too much of a pain to all of you, but I really don't see any point to being here if I can't do all of the things that are available to us here. I really don't want to do this, as I will lose all of the blogs I have written and all of the wonderful comments and interaction I have had but as I said, I don't really see any other option. I just hope you will all bear with me, I value each and every one of you.
For now, I will keep using this one for blogging and commenting on everyone's blogs until the other one is all ready to go, but I will slowly (but surely) be sending out friend requests and re-subscribing to all of your blogs with my new profile. I sure hope this situation doesn't happen again because this is a real pain in the ass!!!
TTYL!! Dee :)

My Christmas!
Current mood: drained
Category: Life
Well, Christmas is over, I'm home from my "vacation", and I'm finding that I now need a vacation from that vacation!! We all had a really good time, but man, it sure was a lot of work!!
Christmas eve is a big deal with my family. I actually enjoy it more than Christmas day (well, except for the presents..hehe). We have a huge spread of food, a buffet of sorts and we stuff ourselves silly!! I'm going to list what we had: Broccoli, cheese and wild rice casserole, Green bean casserole, Meat balls in a delicious sweet and sour sauce, Potato cheese pies, honey garlic chicken wings, macaroni salad, deviled eggs, pigs in a blanket, Shrimp dip, Dill spinach dip in Pumpernickel loaf.....all of which were home made, I might add.
This, of course, is not including the desserts! For that, we had English trifle, Tiramasu, cake, and an assortment of other goodies like cream puffs and stuff!
Needless to say, we were all so stuffed, we could all barely move!! It took 2 full days of preparation to get it ready...and I mean 2 FULL days, and an eternity of doing dishes to clean up after!! Then, after Zoe went to bed, we set out all of the Santa presents.
Zoe got up at 2:45 a.m.!!!!! I'm not kidding, folks...that is frickin early!! We got up, exchanged all of our gifts and then had a huge Christmas breakfast!! We had bacon (yuck..I don't eat pork..lol), eggs, pancakes, croissants, juice and coffee!! Did I mention that this was for 9 people? LOL. Then, of course, a mountain of dishes all over again!! I feel like basically the whole time at my parent's house was spent cooking, eating or doing dishes!! It was well worth all the work, but I really am ready for a rest! LOL
Zoe was completely thrilled with all of her gifts and she is such a people person, she really loved all the people surrounding her! I was happy that she had a great time and her Christmas was exciting and enjoyable...that's what it is all about, isn't it? The joy on her face is the best present I can receive!!
How was everyone's Christmas? Was it everything you expected?

Mary's Blog Orgy Challenge
Current mood: determined
Category: Writing and Poetry
Challenge: To write a story weaving the words of a Christmas song into it. Post a link to your story in the story of everyone else! Great idea, Mary, Mary quite contrary!
Desparation
While humming a jolly old song to myself, I saw my friends, Julie St James and Nicholas Smith, leaning on the balcony of their apartment. They lived together and shared the kind of passion you wish would happen for yourself, but never does. Julie waved to me as Nick nibbled on her ear. Why can't it happen for me this way? Don't I deserve it?
"You make me feel envious", I should tell them. I won't though, because it would just make me sound like a bitter single woman, desperate for a soul mate. But what would be wrong with that? I'm lonely and bitter, there's nothing you're going to say that will change it!
Suddenly I wasn't so jolly anymore. I found myself thinking about Christmas, which makes me think about New Years Eve and who is coming to the big bash. I need to find a date, and soon!! Here and now would be nice! You can say what you like, dear, but I really need someone. Hopefully, not too old, and preferrably a man!
Whisper what you like about me, you'll be the one that's surprised when I bring the hottest guy on the planet to the party with me! You'll be able to tell just by looking at me that I'm in need of some lovin'. It won't be a question of if, just a question of when, you can bet there will be fireworks at the stroke..............of midnight, that is!!
The song: "Jolly Old St. Nicholas"

6 weird facts
Current mood: blank
Category: Life
I was tagged by Kara531 to list 6 weird facts about me. I'm supposed to tag some other people, but hey, I'm feeling like a rebel today and I'm going to break that rule! LOL. If you want to do this, then consider yourself tagged!
1. I am a MAJOR coffee addict! I realize a lot of people need their coffee, but my motto is: You can never have enough coffee!! Seriously, coffee is about the only liquid that enters my body.
2. I quit biting my nails just over a week ago. Okay, so that probably isn't a weird fact, but I'm awfully proud of myself...I actually have growth!!
3. I have public bathroom phobia. I will hold it until I am actually in pain before I will break down and use a public bathroom! The seriously gross me out!!
4. I've tried dill pickles dipped in ice-cream before, and it wasn't too bad!
5. I'm hooked on Days of our Lives! LOL
6. For this last one, I would just like to state that I am not the one that considers this weird, but other people do for some reason.... I think Prince is Hot and Sexy!
There you have it. Some, I'm sure I've told you before, some I haven't!
As I said before, I'm not going to specifically tag anyone, but if you want to do this, consider yourself tagged!

Penny loafers, horse crap, a little bit of everything! lol
Current mood: amused
Category: Friends
Kara posted a funny blog about memories with friends. My story was too long to put in the comments, so I decided to blog it. Here it goes.
When I was about 16 years old, a group of friends and I got the bright idea to sneak into the local Fall Fair without paying. We had the money to go, but you know how teenagers are, they are always trying to get away with something. So, off to the fair we went. We found a fence near the back of the fairgrounds and decided that it was a good spot.
One by one, we climbed over the chain link fence. I went first. I was wearing a mini jean skirt and brand new penny loafers (common, it was the 80's..lol), that I just had to have and cost my parents an arm and a leg. Anyway, over I go. As I go over the top, I get my leg caught on the fence and got a pretty bad cut about 6 inches long (I still have the scar to prove it!). It hurt, but I pressed on. So I land on the ground and realize that it feels squishy under my feet! It seems that we chose the animal section and we had just landed in a field of horse crap! My brand new expensive shoes were covered with smelly poop!! To add to that, I had major blood running down my leg from the huge gash that was in my leg. The gash was covered by the skirt, so it looked like I had my period or something! Very embarassing!
The next person goes over and made it over with very little incident. I should probably mention that we had been drinking.
The next person goes over and her shirt gets caught on the top of the fence as she was jumping down. So, she is standing there, with her shirt up over her head, and boobs pressed against the chain link fence. We were all laughing so hard, and immediately gave her the nick name "Waffle Tits"! LOL. She held on to this name for a long time after the whole incident!
We actually continued on to the fair. We wandered around aimlessly, smelling like horse poop. I still had quite a bit of blood running down my leg and we were still laughing hysterically over the whole waffle tits incident! We met up with 2 guys that we didn't know who felt sorry for us and hung out with us for the evening and bought us stuff. We couldn't get their names right, so we called them "Bob and Itch". Don't ask me why....I don't remember.
It was a very memorable evening for all of us. After the fair, we went to my friends house and spent forever washing crap off of our shoes.
Here is the strange part. I have lost touch with all of my friends from that time. I got in contact with one of them about 6 months ago and learned that she actually ended up marrying "Bob"!! I thought that was a cool ending.
So anyway, that is my story!

I am so upset right now!!!
Current mood: angry
Category: Life
Apparently, my Mom did not have a good night! She didn't sleep at all and was suffering from severe pain in her one eye and head, behind said eye. She also could barely see out of that eye. So, at 4 this morning, my Dad took her to the emergency room. They took an x-ray and some blood work and told her she was fine and sent her home.
At 2 this afternoon, my sister called me because she said my Mom was crying and in a lot of pain. She (my mom) wanted me to look up her meds online and tell her what it said the side effects were, in case that was the problem. After a few minutes, I told my sister to call my Dad and tell him to come home and take her to another hospital (my sister doesn't have a license). He did. Now, my sister just called me to tell me that they are now on their way home from the hospital and that my Mom had to have emergency laser eye surgery because she had ACUTE GLAUCOMA!!!!!
WTF??!! I am so pissed off at the first hospital! How could they just send her on her way like that? Did they just see an old person and think they could give her the brush off? I'm furious!!! I feel that something should be done, but I don't know what...this is totally unacceptable in my opinion! What do you guys think??

Power up!
Current mood: blah
Category: Life
Yesterday, at about 3 in the afternoon, our power went out! Earlier, we had quite a rain and wind storm! The rain was coming down so hard, I couldn't see the house across the street from me. It was like the rain had created a wall! It was like nothing I had seen before. I then went on my back porch and the rain was coming down so hard, the windows reminded me of what you see when you are going through the car wash!! It was really cool. That didn't last for too long. We had a little river flowing down our street and, of course, there was some flooding within the city, but nothing too major.
Apparently, though, the wind had done a bit of damage. It peeled a strip of siding off of our shed that is only a year old. Some trees down, you know the drill. So, anyway, 5 o'clock rolls around and still no power! We went to the next town over for dinner as the city was completely black...nothing was open because nothing had power.
When we got home, the power was still out, which means no heat! So, I came up with the idea that Zoe and I would sleep together and Jim and Daniel (my step son) would sleep together. I figured if we all slept with someone, it would at least create body heat. Great plan, if I do say so myself :)
So, anyway, as the night goes on, we have on the battery operated radio to listen to see what was going on. Apparently, last night, the mayor proclaimed our city in a state of emergency and said we wouldn't likely have power for at least 24 hours. This is bad, since the temperature had dropeed quickly last night...it got as low as around 24!!
Seeing as there was really nothing to do, we all went to be fairily early. The sleeping arrangements worked out well, as none of us were cold! About 6 this morning, the power came back on!! We were very relieved, since as I said, the temperature outside was really cold and the wind was still pretty bad!! Thankfully, the power outage didn't last as long as predicted, but 15 hours without power, especially in the cold, is an awfully long time!! I'm glad it's all over now and life is back to normal!
Needless to say, we are all a bit tired today, especially Jim and I, as we had feet, elbows and knees crammed in our backs all night. Zoe didn't get much sleep either, since about every 20 minutes or so, she said "Mommy, could you please stop snoring?" LOL. I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight!
So how was your night last night? LOL

I'm in the mode!!
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Life
I did "Black Friday" for the first time ever this past Friday. It was like nothing else I have ever experienced, or really, ever wanted to. You see, I have this little problem about being in large crowds of people. I get very claustrophobic and panicked and feel like everyone is taking my air! It is not a very pleasant experience, so I usually try to avoid these types of situations.
This year, however, I decided that since we are not doing great in a financial sense, that it might be worth my while to give it a try. So, there I was, at 5 a.m, walking through the doors of Walmart, tackling the crowds and trying to find some deals. It was stressful, to say the least, but I got through it in one piece! It actually threw me into Christmas mode......at full speed!! It seems like all I have been doing since Friday is shop!
I almost have ALL of the Christmas shopping finished!! This is rare for me, but I am feeling good about it! I even have what I have bought wrapped up and under the tree (which we also assembled, as a family, on Friday when I got home from shopping!!!).
On the flip side of that, the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I've been very down the last week or so. It seems that celebrating Thanksgiving, and getting prepared for Christmas, has re-opened the already not closed issues of dealing with my brother's passing. I've had quite a few bouts of crying and I'm trying to keep it all in check. Bottom line, I miss my brother! I miss him and I feel very distraught that the perpetrator has basically just walked away without consequense. I don't think I will ever get past it...although I am sincerely trying.
Anyway, sorry about the depressing rant! Back to the up-beat stuff!
My favorite part of Christmas is Christmas eve! It is a tradition in my family, that we all congregate at my parent's house Christmas eve and have a delicious spread of a variety of foods! We have a buffet style meal that usually consists of something for everyone! A lot of work goes into the food, but it is so worth it. It is nice to sit around, stuffing our faces with food we don't eat all year, visit, and just spend time together! It is also a tradition that we all open 1 gift on Christmas eve. For the "kids" (that includes my sister, myself and Zoe..hehe), we usually open P.J's and everyone else opens something too! It is a night filled with joy and complete excitement for Zoe!!
This is my favorite time of the year, although not for religious reasons, but it is a time of year for family, for giving and kindness to others!!
I know it is a little bit early, but I would like to wish each and every one of you a very merry Christmas and holiday season in general!

Football. The anti-family.
Current mood: aggravated
Category: Life
As you all know, today is Thanksgiving. I am thankful for a lot of things: For my happy and healthy family, a home of our own, warm clothes, friends...the list could go on and on. I appreciate each one of these things and more!
I love Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey fills the house with an amazing aroma, the feast fills our bellies and although it is a lot of work, it makes it all worth it when I sit down at the table with my family and see how much they enjoy all of the effort.
There is a set back though, and that would be football. The concept of Thanksgiving being a "football day" is beyond me! Isn't the idea of Thanksgiving to be not only thankful for stuff, but to spend time together? I know I'm not the only person on the planet that hates sports (including football), so I wonder if anyone else feels this way? Football....the ANTI-family.
Who ever dreamed up the stupid concept of putting footall on all day on one of the only days of the year that it is (almost) guaranteed that you are all together as a family for a change? I would like to know the brainiac that came up with this so I could slap him (and yes, I'm pretty sure it's a HIM) around a little!! Wouldn't you?
Okay, I'm finished my little rant..lol. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
