Much Better
We finished all of the summer tasks that we set for Clarion wrestling. Summer camps went very well, although stressful and a TON of work, we got through it and our wrestlers got better.
This year we made some changes with the camp system and it seemed to have a positive effect on the campers, counselors and staff. Our Team Camp had 235 campers. Our staff did a great job of teaching and engaging the campers. Many of the wrestlers that attended the same camp in the past liked our change of teaching sessions and competition times. Our Father and Son camps keep growing and the response from campers and staff were also very positive. We offered two weekends. The first brought in almost 100 campers. The second brought another 60. Our first ever 12 Day Intensive camp went very well and our campers worked their butts off!!! Everyday we had a 6 am run, 9-11 technique session, 1-3 live wrestling session and finished with a 7-9 classroom information session or outdoor activity.
The wrestlers in the Intensive camp were pushed to their limits but the 45 campers dug deep and got the work done. They experienced what a Division I program trains like and learned a lot of the secrets that can take an average wrestler to the top of the podium. We are excited to see the results from our campers next season. Everyone left with new goals and we will see State Champions and National Champions out of this elite group of athletes. This will become a mainstay in the Clarion summer camp system.
The other camp that we introduced was a Specialized Technique Camp that focused on leg attacks and leg rides. We had 60 campers and the hours spent covering these specific areas of wrestling was a lot of fun and very detailed. We might add an addition Specialized Technique Camp next summer that will focus on defensive wrestling or counter-attack wrestling.
After the finish of our summer camps, Coach Bubb and our Pin Club President, Sheryl Riesmeyer, hosted the first annual Clarion Alumni Golf Outing and Alumni Weekend. The weekend brought over 50 wrestlers back to Clarion. It was a complete success and the weekend went off without a hitch. Coach and Sheryl had two conference rooms full of great Clarion wrestling history. The pictures, articles and memorabilia reinforced how rich the Clarion wrestling tradition is. I felt honored to hear the stories, meet the men and see the results that made Clarion wrestling into the program it is. Our athletes donated their time to assist with the outing and they have a new appreciation of who they represent.
Our next venture in August will be a team trip out to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We will make this trip a time to recharge our batteries and prepare for the season to come. The 2007-08 season will present a great opportunity for Clarion to return as a power in the EWL. Our work from this spring and summer is going to pay off with victory.

we arrived in varna on wednesday and checked into our hotel. the accomidations are very good. our rooms are very nice and we now have some a/c which is making it a little easier to rest. our istanbul hotel did not have a/c which made the rooms a little uncomfortable and we also had a mosque just across the street which would have a call-to-prayer at 5:30 in the morning. now were relaxing in our rooms and enjoying the resort area of varna.
on our first day we were able to get a training session at the varna sport complex which has a number of young athletes. it houses wrestling, gymnastics and karate training facilities. we used the workout to get our blood moving and feel better from the long bus travel.

Today we trained with the same team at their facility and our guys wrestled very well. the match ups at the duals were in their favor for most of the matches. they held a 2, 3 or 4 kg advantage. during todays practice we were able to get better matchups which gave our guys some better results. they trained technique with the team for over an hour and a half. then they wrestled matches with their partners. our guys learned some great things throughout the practice. the turks have very good frontheadlock offense and def. some of our guys took time after the workout to learn the offense and defense to these positions.
tonight we are leaving Istanbul and driving by motor coach to bulgaria. it should be a 5 or 6 hour bus ride so we have decided to leave at 3 am so that we have more time in varna, bulgaria to train tomorrow.
i will try and update on tomorrows trip and any results once we get settled in varna.

turkey 2007
this keyboard is tough to work with so please bear with me.
it is sunday evening in turkey and all is well. travel to turkey was a little delayed but were here and doing fine. we landed on saturday and most of the group arrived safe and together. Tsirtiss, fields, brenner and bennett arrived late last evening because of a connection change in paris put them on a later flight. we are still waiting for one athlete this evening. david copp is still in transit but we should be seeimg him soon.
aol instant messenger is not installed on many computers. i hope that in time i can find an internet cafe that has it so that i can communicate in real time.
today we had a workout in istanbul with a club. many of their kids were below 70 kg so our upper weights worked out by themselves or with our coaches. our smaller guys traded off with the turks.
tomorrow at 3pm we have a dual lined up with a turkish club in istanbul and there should be some good wrestling. there athletes seem to be around 20 years old but look like they will give some great matches.
i will try and update you with our results as we go.

Year one is done!
This year has been a very challenging year. Overcoming the obsticles with Clarion Wrestling and learning to deal with all aspects of recruiting, coaching and adminstration was tough. Trying to deal with these things while also being a good father and husband really tested my soul.
First off my wife is the most understanding and supportive person I have ever met. She is a SUPER mom and an amazing wife considering all the obstacles she tackles while alone most of the time. Talen and Maryn are great kids and I feel blessed everytime I walk through the door.
My guys at Clarion are some serious studs!!! They were given a challenge to step up and get Clarion wrestling back on track. They have done that and more. They needed to turn around their academic performance and they did. They needed to turn around their athletic performance and they did. We had a number of guys that started the season with high hopes but in the end, we limped out of the season licking our wounds. We did have 1 national qualifier more than last year. We also had 7 more dual wins than last year. We also had 1 Fila junior national runner-up more than last year. AND. . .we have 12 guys that are going to take Clarion wrestling back to the top of the EWL and back to the top of the NCAA podium.
Recruiting went well! We landed Cameron Moran, Geary Gallik, Chris Lascari, Travis Uncapher, Clint Podish, Nick Sipes, Derrick Hockensmith, Jamie "THE BRICK" Lockett. These guys are going to commit to the type of training that makes champions and more importantly we are going to see Clarion's name back on the top of the rankings again. We want Champions here at Clarion, both on and off the mat.
Please help get the word out about Clarion Summer Camps. Kurt Angle, Wade Schalles, Don Rohn and Sheldon Thomas are all back to help with the Clarion Legends Camp. These great wrestlers are back to prove that these Eagles will fly.
Look for a solid lineup from the Clarion Eagles in 2007-08 because with the amount of training and focus this group has put into the post season, we have no other option but success. We train together, we work together and we will win together. Clarion Wrestling 2007-08 We're focused on winning!

The new addition
Well, the Moore's were blessed with our 2nd daughter, Maryn Sophia Moore on Nov. 4th at 6:15pm. Everyone is doing well and getting settled into our new routine. Talen is enjoying the new little sister and loves helping Mommy when possible. Mary and I are trying to get rested in the evening because our days keep us quite busy.
The Clarion Eagles were at the WVU Open on Maryn's birthday and I almost made it home for the birth. We were actually exiting I-80 when she popped out. I made it to the delivery room in time to cut the cord. The team was understanding to our families recent addition and seem to be as excited as I am.
This week brings a new era of Clarion Wrestling to the mat. We open our season vs. Penn State #9 in the country and follow the dual action up with a Lock Haven and Millersville dual. The PA State Duals held in Lock Haven allow us the chance to try and execute our well rehearsed style and hopefully show the Clarion fight the these Eagles can bring.
Lot's of changes. . .THESE EAGLES ARE SOARING!!!

Thoughts on Fargo
It has been 11 years since I watched the Junior Nationals. The level of competition has definately continued to improve! Kids today are very skilled and well trained at such a young age.
The Junior Tournament was enjoyable although I thought they could have combined a couple of the weights to better the competition. It just seems to be a little spread out even with the great talent we have there wrestling. I was a little surprised to only see a few states really wrestling with skills and techniques that really give them an advantage with these new rules. Not many kids were using the out of bounds to their advantage. I witnessed a few tight bouts that the winner really used strategy to win a period or the end of a bout. For the most part, it looked like kids were wrestling under the new rules while using old strategies.
Team Pennsylvania had a very unimpressive Junior tournament because of the lack of strategic mindset during their bouts. There were a lot of periods lost to a last second pushout or takedown. If kids want to win at the Junior Nationals, they have to prepare much like our Senior level athletes. Although they can not train year round for the Junior Nationals, our best wrestlers need to develop more strategy to find success at the National level. Don't get me wrong, I watched a lot of guys wrestle very intense and very hard but mental errors seem to be the most common link to someone losing a period or a bout. As a whole, the Juniors have a high level of very competitve wrestlers but those who won, combined strategy and tactics to win out 2 periods every match.
Watching the tournament as a head coach, I can honestly say that there are plenty of great wrestlers to find on the national scene. My goal is to bring some of these athletes to Clarion so that they can continue striving towards Titles and conquering goals!
One side note, my daughters Godfather, John Prezzia, won the Junior Freestyle division at 98lbs. It was very special to see his years of hard work and determination pay off. He has become a very important part of our family and we are so happy to see him continue achieving his dreams!
Congrats John!
