Cool Coach Arrested!
John Hayes, 46, a Marietta, Ga., middle school coach, was arrested in December and charged as the person who drove a group of his students around at night so they could vandalize various Christmas yard decorations (in one case, leaving reindeer entangled in "sexual positions"). A neighbor whose display was wrecked pursued Hayes' truck, caught up to him, and asked, "Are you crazy?" Hayes responded, allegedly, "It's just a bit of fun." [WGCL-TV (Atlanta), 12-18-07]

Noxious Substances
State and federal authorities descended on Quality Pork Processors of Austin, Minn., in December after 11 workers contracted a mysterious neurological illness, which apparently came from inhaling the mist that results from blowing hogs' brains out with compressed air. [Tampa Tribune-AP, 12-8-07]

Smoking Ban
Category: Blogging
Bright Ideas
..BEGIN_TEXT-->Michael Windisch, proprietor of the Maltermeister Turm restaurant in Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany, solved what has become a crisis for other restaurants since the state extended a smoking ban in August. Windisch opened three holes in an outer wall so that, in cold weather, a smoker need not venture outside but can stick his head and arms through the holes and puff away while remaining inside (according to a December report in Der Spiegel). 2008 Presidential Elections
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
Past, Present, and Future
As we look on into the future of our great nation, never has it been so uncertain. From Operation Iraqi Freedom to the growing national deficit, Americans look to the past to see just where we went wrong. The truth is that we never had a say in it at all. We only know what they want us to, and in most times it's in their best interest not to tell us.
Today, I have come to the realization that elections are nothing more than a popularity contest. Its not based on whether you think the candidate is a "good person" or "skilled", hell it's not even about the major issues. It's about whom the Senate wants to elect, for whom can they manipulate into signing earmarks. The next President of the United States will have a huge job on his/her hands. For the past two terms, our country has been run into the ground by the bipartisan groups and it was allowed to happen by G. Bush.
We all will pay dearly for his mistakes while in power. Higher taxes, lost jobs, and a bordering recession are his legacy. He was elected on his second term simply by his "fans". He was elected on a promise, a promise to build on the promises he made on his first term. It simply makes me sick to know that people cannot think for themselves, or take notice to what is really going on around them. Your vote counts, it always has. Though you may not actually see it, they listen. It's the basic values this country was founded from, the right to think for yourself and the resposibility to learn, research, and choose the candidate which stands for the same morals that you do.
I ask you, before you vote or even think about voting to research and find your cadidate. Please don't vote for a candidate just because of popularity. Vote because you believe in them, you believe in their cause, and you believe that they can do the job.
If we all have a voice, then we may change the country and eventually change the world.
