Good Reads
We packed up the last two days and went down to Times Square (we don't think we've ever been there at 8.30 am before – scary) and attended an online marketing / book publishing conference called "Tools of Change" (seriously, that's the name – insert comments about being a tool Here: ____).
Anyway – Learned a lot, met some great people, drank a ton of coffee (there were some moments we almost passed out when the talk go technical). One of our favorite sessions was with Otis Chandler of Good Reads and Tim Spalding of Library Thing. We were captivated. Enthralled. Energized. So we've gone out and have built our own Good Reads profile. Click HERE to see us.
Thanks, Otis.
(Sorry, Tim, we'll get on Library Thing tomorrow).

DORIS LESSING
Wins the 2007 Nobel Prize
for Literature
-------------------------------------------------
Experience Doris Lessing's Latest Novel
THE CLEFT
"A superb and daring work…An extraordinary vision of the establishment of human life on earth that overturns every other way of seeing it… Convincing in the way all fine art is…What an amazing book, bringing together as it does Lessing's radicalism, her feminism and her propensity for speculative fiction… A gift from one of the great mothers of the contemporary novel."
— Alan Cheuse, Chicago Tribune

Struggling Writers - Come on in!
Current mood: Generous
Are you a struggling writer? We love struggling writers. You're our favorite people. We want to hear about your novel. Here's the deal - be our friend (I'm feeling needy today) - and send us an email with a FIVE sentence max description of your novel and a THREE sentence max description of YOU. A link to a writing sample is always helpful, too (we won't count the link as one of the EIGHT sentences you're allotted) and please include your email address so we can get back to you.
Who knows what could happen....

By any other name.
Current mood: apathetic
I doubt any of you will find this interesting - but here it is anyway...
While tooling around BEA the other day, I ended up having lunch with one of my favorite people – Jenn from Shelf Awareness. During our lunch – over a wilted salad and a turkey sandwich I now would like to forget I ate – Jenn kept saying "Harper-Harper." Not knowing what she was talking about, I said "Jenn, what are you talking about?"
Unbeknownst to me – apparently in the publishing world the "Harper" imprint of HarperCollins Publishers is known as "Harper-Harper," as a way of distinguishing the Harper imprint from the entire company.
Down the street – at 55th and Broadway – the Random House imprint of Random House, Inc. has long been known as "Little Random." (For years I thought "Little Random" was their children's division).
Again – this piece of trivial and useless information is my gift to you.
Go read a book.
