FRESH

your feet in the clouds
your head on the ground
everything you look at
brand new now
No questioning, no sense of time
all first looks and butterflies
falling in love like it's the first time

wild hope, a clean slate
no history or past to erase
drawn in with a single look
familiar but with a fresh outlook
better, lighter, and softer too
the weight of the world suddenly off of you

Innocence so bright white
and baby pure
that it turns your world
upside down with its allure
a nice crisp, ironed suit
a ripe peach you slice into
red flushed cheeks and the first snow
the air when it gets so quiet, still and cold

the smell of the ocean on a January day
the bitterness of winter wiping tears away
waking up from a good night's sleep
remembering when you forget to breathe
sunshine coming in through the trees
bringing with it secret dreams

cut grass, a new coat of paint
the air right after it rains
clean sheets that you slip into
a laugh that comes from deep inside of you
vibrant youth without a care
a shooting star you try to share

laundry drying on a line in the wind
an early sunset that pulls you in
river water, honeysuckle, jasmine, and thyme
lemons and lavender, clarity and insight
the impact of water from a high dive
almost dying to feel alive

colors so bright they cannot fade
words you never even have to say
a sky so blue, no trace of gray
the moment the pain goes away
the sweet song of the summer breeze
instantaneous and fleeting

planting seeds and watching them grow
because you believe in tomorrow
finding out who you are by who you're not
surprise and gratitude in the same thought
a face and hands that holds yours tight
feeling like you've finally arrived
falling in love like it's the first time
