Thoughts I have for the End of this Year, and my Hope...
Current mood: contemplative

..to have a friend is to never be poor... (Julius Turkman)

When you first enter your Second Life perhaps you will experience kind of a shock. Here you enter a world with it's own vocabulary, customs, do's and don'ts. I advise everyone to just listen and observe for at least one month. Try to visit as much regions as possible and respect the people who built their environment in this "game", allthough you don't understand or agree (yet). And enter the next level.

Soon you will find out every time you log in, you will see familiar faces and names. You start to have a small conversation, perhaps a small discussion about a certain topic...

As time goes by, strangely enough you will start to have feelings of friendship for a certain person, even start to love someone. Real feelings in a virtual world? Why not? Virtual feelings in a real world? Think...

I never looked at Second Life as a dating service for real world relationships. I have a very fullfilling First Life allready. For me it is interesting to see how we can interact with each other in a so-called ideal world. What metafysical laws we all will obey, how can we achieve Utopia? Or will this "virtual" world be just a copy of the "real" thing? Interesting questions, and many confusing answers...

I learned to ask simple questions. Also I learned that not all questions have an answer. When I look around me in real life, I see the world torn to pieces by hatred, a world on the verge of destruction because of silly wars...

As we near the end of this year, and I see the news and all the reports, I am very afraid. When I close my eyes I smell the fires burning, I can hear the marching in the streets...

What can we, simple avatars, do? We can do a lot I think. We can express our hope in a good world, where there is no hunger, no tears.. A world where Love & Friendship rule. Let us continue to talk to each other, love each other, help where we can. And I strongly believe that all positive energy, how small it may be, will contribute to a future where we will experience global peace.

Am I sentimental right now? Yes...

Am I silly? No doubt....

Do I love my friends? With all my heart...

Dear Loved Ones, I send all my Love to You. My wish for 2007 is that we all live together in peace and harmony. As I sit here in the darkness of my room, I can sense your presence. Thank you so much.

I love you...

Iraqi
Current mood: thankful

Just a little story...

Off course, in the beginning I logged on to Second Life, I was mainly concerned about my appearance. Choosing the right skin, make-up, clothes and other stuff I might need to make a good impression. One of the nights when I was shopping, I met a handsome young man. He was very friendly and showed me around (even bought me a nice T-shirt!). I was anxious to return a favour and when he proposed to go for a dance I happily agreed.

We danced for hours under a moonlit sky and he started to tell his lifestory. In real life he was handicapped, due to a severe accident in the Iraqi War. Allmost cut in half by and exploding device, he was forced to stay in bed all the time. Allways in terrible pain, seeing the sun only throught the shaded windows. His girlfriend had left him and the only happiness and joy came from this game, his Second Life....

If they had invented this game only for him, it was worth all the costs. He was able to dance, fly and chat with a girl like me. And I really think I made him happy, just for a little while... Perhaps it was my imagination, but his eyes seemed more brighter at the end.

We said goodbye with a kiss. I never heard of him again...

How it begun......
Current mood: cheerful

A little history...

By the end of the year 2005 I saw a Dutch documentary about the online game called Second Life. I was intrigued by this game (I never played games before) but it was only in February 2006 I decided to take an account. First a free one to check it out. I was ingame from time to time, exploring The Grid (the connection of hundreds of sim's) and trying to connect to other avatars (online characters). I saw the strangest things!!! You know you can customise your character endlesly!! In the beginning I must say I didn't saw the use of this game, except that you could create digital object and materialsie them in the game. So for me it was more a game for designers or scripters. Playing more and more, I made acqaintance with other avatars and had very fascinating chats with them. The reality factor of this game is very big, so I could 'imagine' talking to real friends, which in fact they are!! Behind every avatar is a person behind it's computer, talking to me and expression his/her feelings!! I decided to take it a step furhter and took a Premium Account. And then the adventure started.......
