Heidi is at it again...
It is to my great regret that Heidi has yet again, unleashed a new video clip in her unceasing war on my psyche. Thrill at how Heidi "The Racket" May menaces me and puts me in my place! My life isn't hard enough?! I need this?! Apparently I do, we all do. So, for all of you who missed the monthly beatings she administers to yours truly, here's another episode of abuse for your viewing pleasure. Thank you for your kind indulgence. –Henry

Newsletter / Provoked CD/DVD
Hello from beautiful Belfast Northern Ireland. I am back on tour after 40 hours off a few days ago. Last night I was onstage here and today is a day off. From here I will be going to Spain for some shows and then to Australia and New Zealand.
We have a new release, it’s a DVD/CD thing called Provoked: The CD is audio taken from a show in San Francisco and one in Amsterdam Holland from last year. The DVD is a show from a few years ago done at a small club called Dingwall’s in London that was shown on BBC 4 and Comedy Central. This set has been released in a 2CD box, not a DVD sized one, and there are two places to get it: from our website or from Best Buy. This is a limited edition release. When the run is done, the DVD will come back into print but I will do something else audio-wise so if you want to get a copy of the CD, this is the only way to do it. It goes on sale tomorrow (April 1.)
There are a lot of shows booked and more being booked until the end of the year. The Australian and New Zealand dates are all announced. What’s coming up are shows in Edinburgh Scotland in August at the Edinburgh Festival. I think I am doing 8 nights there, when I get the hard dates on those I will post them. Also there will be some other European dates planned in that month but I don’t know anything about them yet. Also, there are US and Canadian dates planned for September through November that are weeks away from getting firmed up and I will post them when I get them.
Past that, I am where I should be, on the road and hitting stage more often than not. I am 52 shows into the year and am looking forward to being out as much as possible one way or another in 2008. I will be off this leg of the tour in a few weeks and then will finish up the two books set for release later in the year as well as work on some re-issues. I think I will do something really cool with the Hard Volume album and expand it to a 2CD set and try to get some unreleased stuff from that time period on there to make things interesting.
That’s all I can think of at this moment so I will leave it here. Thanks. -- Henry, 03-31-08 Belfast Northern Ireland

A Quick Heads Up: Hey. I am sitting at Ian MacKaye's house and we are having one of our great hang outs. It's the first day off on the tour and speaking truthfully, I don't mind it. We had a great day today, walking around and checking things out. I wanted to tell you that for the radio broadcast on the 26th of this month, we have two very special guest hosts. Live in the studio for the entire two hours will be artist Shepard Fairey and skate legend Tony Alva. Tuesday night 8-10 pm PST. Here's the site info: http://www.indie1031.fm/. I hope you get a chance to tune in. Also, there's a couple of new Dispatches up and you Sydney Australia folks who were upset that the shows sold out, don't worry, tickets for more shows are going on sale like right now. Thanks. --Henry

Rollins Newsletter Jan 2008
May You Live In Interesting Times Dept: I finished work on Ice 44 (or whatever the film will eventually be called) on 12-20-07 and the next day left town for Islamabad, Pakistan. Why did I go there? A couple of reasons: I am curious and at the end of 2006, when I was in Dubai talking to some people who work for the US Gov't, they told me Pakistan is a country I should stay out of. So, one night a few weeks ago I decided that I had to go. Arrangements were made and off I went for a week in Islamabad. I had no idea what I was going to do which is an interesting way to travel, I can't recommend it but I can't recommend many things I do. Anyway, I was there the day that Benazir Bhutto was assassinated which was a sad event, of course, but an interesting time to be there all the same. The day after she had been killed I walked around the Blue Section where all the shops are. I had just been there the day before, meeting people and taking it all in, but on this day the scene was quite different: tires were burning in the street, men were crying loudly, people were protesting and the police, dressed in riot gear, watched from the sidelines. I reckoned the best way to not stand out was to blend in, so I just walked into the middle of it and observed from there. It was a wild and intense hour. Men marched to the intersection to join other men who were there and the numbers started to grow. Media descended upon the scene. It was wild. After awhile everyone seemed to have had their fill and the crowd dissipated and soon I was standing almost alone. I met a lot of people on this trip and they were all very friendly. The food was great, the women were beautiful and the nights were cold and clear. Besides the death of Ms. Bhutto and the open despair of so many people I encountered, it was an amazing trip.
New Clip Of The Month: I never see these damned things until they are online. It's like that box of chocolates, or skinny-dipping with Karl Rove, you never know what you're going to get. All day at the office Heidi was roaring with laughter knowing what was waiting for me when I went online to see what she had posted. Another month, another albatross.
You Saw Me Up There now on DVD: Many years ago, a video of a talking show I did at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles came out called You Saw Me Up There. It went out of print and remained that way until two days ago when it came back from the plant on DVD for the first time. It took awhile to get things straightened out with the label that released it in the first place, hence the very long delay. Thank you for all the letters you sent over the years asking about the status of this thing. I am happy to see that it's back with us.
Tour Dates: I will hopefully be touring on and off until the end of November this year. So far, the January and February European dates are all set as well as the ones in South Africa and a 5 week tour of America and Canada in February and March. Australian dates are set for April. I will see if I can do more dates at the Fringe Fest in Scotland in August and will post those dates if I can get anything happening there. I had such a great time there last year, I would like to be part of it again this year if possible. I am hoping that I can go back out September through November in North America for more shows. We will post all dates on the website just as soon as they confirm so there's no need to write in and ask if I'll be here or there, we'll let you know as soon as we can.
The Ruts: Remember last year when I sang with The Ruts in London as part of the benefit for Ruts guitarist Paul Fox? Sadly, Paul passed away several weeks ago but the show was captured on video and will be released in late January in Europe. There will be a release party on January 25 at the Shepherds Bush Empire. You can get information at www.myspace.com/TheRutsOfficialPage. Also, the live version we did of the song Babylon's Burning has been released for download and information on that is also on this site. As it happens, I have a night off on the 25th and will be at the event introducing the film. The two remaining Ruts, Segs and Dave Ruffy, will be there and I'm sure some other cool Punk notables will be as well, so it should be a great night, show up if you can. I will be onstage live at the Hammersmith Odeon the next night, that should be a good time, I love that venue.
IFC Show: The good folks at IFC have asked if I would do three "Live & Uncut" specials for 2008. Some of you may be familiar with the ones I did for them from New York and Israel. The first one will be shot in South Africa in February, the next will be in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I don't know where the third one will be yet. We won't be doing the regular show this year, they like it better when I am out and about and they got a very good response on the Israel show and want to do more. I am happy to be working with them again this year.
Looking Ahead Dept: In 2008 I will release two books: Fanatic! Vol. 3 and A Preferred Blur. I don't have firm release dates yet as they are both being worked on but when they are set to come out, I will let you know.

Clip of the Month
As promised, there's a new clip of the month up on the site. This one just further illustrates how Heidi does all she can to disrupt my normal comings and goings as best she can. She insists that I need this to be a better person or something. Anyway, the new clip is a good one and the price is right so check it out if you get a chance, it's on the site now. >>>> Breaking news. Heidi has just come over to my side of the building for the too manyth time today to hector and harass me. She just spent several minutes having me open file after file on my computer just so she could look. I showed her a nice picture of a crocodile eating a zebra, that one always sends her out of the room.

A Note From Henry...
Hello. I have just returned from the first leg of the Provoked Tour. Before I say anything else, I wanted to thank all of you who showed up. Also, to all the people I met out by the bus after the show, thanks for sticking around, it was good to meet you all. I know that some of the performances were a little long and I am sorry about that but there was a lot I wanted to say. I hope you have all recovered by now. The tour will resume in January and go fairly non-stop until May. There will be dates in Europe, South Africa, North America and Australia. When dates firm up, we will post them on the website. Hopefully the shows in South Africa will be filmed for an IFC special.
It's hard to believe the year is almost over. I have been going non-stop since January 1st. The show on IFC was a lot of work but well worth it as I think we did a good season, I gave a lot of time to the radio show I have in Indie 103 as well. In between working, I tried to get out and travel as much as I could. As many of you probably know, I went to Israel, Jordan, Iran, Syria and Lebanon this year. All these places were fascinating and informative. I was also in England, Scotland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Dubai and Australia. Hopefully, next year will be as busy as this one. I like to be on the road more often than not.
Again, thanks for showing up at the shows and thanks for your letters and general kindness. I'll see you down on the road.
Here's some of the things that are new on the site as well as some other stuff:
New DVD: Live In San Francisco 1990. Many years ago, my friend Joe Cole and I made plans to release some of my talking shows on video. Joe shot some shows before he was killed in late 1991. Over the years, we have thought about releasing some of this footage but for one reason or another, we have not until now. This show is from 1990 and it's not a multicamera shoot with multichannel stereo audio so we have priced it accordingly and hope you enjoy all its low-fi splendor. Hopefully we will be releasing more of these old shows in the future.
New Book: Fanatic! Vol. 2. As some of you know, I have a radio show in Los Angeles on Indie 101.3 called Harmony In My Head, named after the great Buzzcocks song. For the last few years, I have annotated all the songs I broadcast in an effort to get as much information about the music out there as possible and also because I enjoy writing obsessively about the music I like. This furious activity has lead to a series of books called Fanatic!. The first volume of the projected three volume set was released a couple of years ago and the new one, Vol. 2 is now available. This book comes in at over 450 pages and includes many repros of flyers, ads and other goodies culled from my own stash as well as some borrowed from other private collections. The book is an over achiever's fanzine and fans of the radio show or anyone interested in an off-the-wall music reference book might get a kick out of it. I know that for many of you, the radio show is not easy to access and the book might not hold a great deal of interest, so to make things a bit more appetizing, we are offering a discount if you get both books. Separately the books are 10 each but only 15 bucks total if you get both volumes of Fanatic! I think some of you will have fun with these books and I want to get them out to you, causing as little misery as possible!
Trouble Funk, 30 Seconds Over DC, Negative Trend EP: These are three CD titles that we have currently in stock. If you are into some serious, heavy music, you really want to check out the Negative Trend record. It's the first time it's ever been on CD and it was a very long time ambition of mine to get that record into print. If you are a fan of old Black Flag and hard stuff like that, this is a serious CD. The Trouble Funk Live and Studio 2CD set is some of best Go Go Funk Washington DC ever unleashed upon the world, I play tracks from this CD on my radio show all the time, really great stuff. And lastly, 30 Seconds Over DC is a great compilation CD of old DC area bands that was only out on vinyl for many years in DC but a couple of years ago, I put it out on CD, it sounds great, one of those small of fame records that you might really get a kick out of.
Clip Of The Month: Many of you have witnessed our first clip of the month where Heidi attempts to bedevil me and keep me from working purposefully. Heidi has another one all set to go that will start promptly at the beginning of December. Thanks for your kind letters about this month's clip. Now you see what I go through every day here. I know what you're thinking, and the answer is no, it's not easy but somehow I get through the day.
National Geographic documentaries: On Monday, November 26th, National Geographic will be airing two documentaries on ATF infiltration of two motorcycle gangs, The Hells Angels and The Mongols. They are really interesting. I did the narration for both and I must say, I am really pleased to have worked with National Geographic, having been a fan since I was very young. Below are links to their site with the times they are playing. I believe they will be airing back to back:
Hells Angels doc. info: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/ET/popup/200711262000.html
Mongols doc. info: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/ET/popup/200711262100.html
2008: I will hopefully be doing tour dates throughout most of next year. I don't have everything completely planned out but ideally, I want to be out on the road more often than not. As things get booked, we will post the dates. I am working on a book called A Preferred Blur, which contains journal entries and travel stories, that will hopefully emerge about a year from now. Fanatic! Vol. 3 should be at some point in 2008 too. Also slated for next year will be the rest of the Rollins Band re-issues and hopefully some unreleased tracks as well as expanded versions of some of the older talking records and perhaps some new spoken releases culled from the last two tours. As usual, we are constantly working away at this stuff and get it out there as soon as we can. --Henry

Newsletter / Video Clip of the Month
Hello folks. Here's a small update on what is happening from our end. I am on tour right now as you probably know but I wanted to alert you to something happening at our humble website that you might find interesting.
Heidi spent a good part of the last several months following me all over the office with her video camera basically assaulting me. In an effort to show you what I have to go through with this person, we will be posting clips of the footage (called Battling Tops: Dismantling Henry Rollins) on the site every month.
In the first clip you will witness Heidi poison my coffee, expose the contents of my freezer and take years off my life with her shock and awe tactics. Now you can witness how Heidi May and I clash routinely during a normal day at the office. We will post a new clip every month, it will be all you can stand, believe me. I think you will get a kick out of them and wonder how I have survived this long.
When I get back from this tour in a few weeks, we will start our year end sales. We have a new DVD and some other stuff that I will detail in next month's newsletter. The shows have been going very well and I am glad to be out here with a show every night. I always wish these tours would last longer but I guess 50 shows in one tour is plenty. There will be more shows next year so I have that to look forward to.
Anyway, this slight tap on the shoulder is basically to announce the beginning of the Heidi v. Henry video epic coming to our website. Medic! Thanks. --Henry
