PRESS RELEASE
Raisetheroof: the multimedia indoor festival
Friday 8th February, Leeds West Indian Centre
What was once a student house party in 2004 at 45 Malefant St, Cardiff, has evolved considerably over the past four years. February the 8th will see Raisetheroof host its signature 'multimedia festival' in the Leeds West Indian Centre for the second time, after the sell-out success of the Autumn Festival on October 12th 2007.
Raisetheroof aims to capture a Carnival atmosphere, pulling together everything that makes outdoor festivals so special under one roof. At a Raisetheroof night you can expect huge variety; with performance and art in a diversity of forms including dance, craft, visual art, installations and of course, a great selection of music. The Navigantes, who were first brought together at a squat on Clarendon Road, Leeds, will be launching the night with their bouncy version of Spanish gypsy-Ska. The rest of the evening will enjoy a sizeable dose of live Reggae from the ten-piece East Park Reggae Collective, Electro-pop from the affable Middleman and sophisticated live Drum and Bass from Hayashi.DJs Steppa (+mc Andlar), Exodus, Manitou and Kommissar will be mixing Breaks, Dubstep, Roots, Reggae and Drum n Bass through to 5am. Sounds of the main room will be powered by the heavyweight High Pressure Sound System and the back room is hosted by Moonstomp Soundsystem, playing a selection of Ska, Punk, Reggae, Dub, 2-Tone, Rocksteady and Bluebeat.
The diversity of music is only one attraction of the Winter Festival, among many – with appearances from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance Troupe, sixteen piece percussion group Honeydrum, numerous campaigners and collectives and so much more, the bands and DJs really are just the tip of the iceberg.
Attendees are advised to arrive early to catch the first band. All profits from the Raisetheroof Winter Festival will go towards the future print costs of No-TiTLE Magazine – Leeds' free music monthly. Please check www.myspace.com/raisetheroofevents for the running order and other information.
Thanks to Ross for asking me to do Stage Flight. It went well - I got some interesting responses. I even left the robot up - so who knows what got done to that! Thanks to everyone that came down.
Here's the flyer I did for the night:
