The Flaws Of The Cabbage Soup Diet
Category: Food and Restaurants
There is some question as to whether the Cabbage Soup Diet is a diet at all. Many people have followed it. Many have also lost weight with it. But it has been determined that this diet may result in nothing more than water loss. The diet is intended to last seven days. In that week, you eat nothing but low-calorie cabbage soup and supplemental foods that change daily. Because there are no long-term commitments involved with this diet, it is often called a fad diet.
Eating cabbage soup for an entire week may not attract too many followers. Apparently, though, it works. This would explain the widespread interest in the diet. However, this weight loss is only temporary. Which is why the diet has now gone by the wayside. So, what exactly is this diet?
With the cabbage soup diet, your drink choices are limited. No soda is allowed. Unsweetened tea is permitted on the first day. Black coffee is permitted to an extent. The positive is that you can eat as much as you want. Unfortunately, you have to eat at least two bowls of cabbage soup per day. Fruit, skim milk, meat and vegetables are allowed. Some of the other foods encouraged include tomatoes, brown rice, onions and potatoes. This is quite the opposite of the Atkins diet, which prohibits eating starchy foods.
What makes the Cabbage soup diet so controversial is not just that you eat one food at the expense of others. It is what happens after you lose the weight. It is not a diet you can follow for more than a week. The plan itself discourages it. This is because the diet is just a week of fasting. Calories brought in are so low as to be useless. It is not the cabbage that controls the weight loss. It is simply the lack of food. This means you can go on a pickle diet just as easily. Or a celery diet. Or any other food that has little to no calories. And after you go off of it, you gain the weight right back.
One of the bad things about the cabbage soup diet is that it is more like an assembly line program than anything else. It is not individualized. Everyone follows the same program. Also, the plan doesn't encourage exercise. It doesn't give you any tips to success. It doesn't even provide advice on discarding old habits. It is simply a list of foods that you must eat. It could be likened to the supposed "American Heart Association diet" that claims people can lose ten pounds in a week if they eat grapefruit, hot dogs and cantaloupe. The American Heart Association has alerted consumers that this diet is not affiliated with them. Yet, people still follow it. They follow it because they will follow just about anything that promises quick weight loss with little work. Following a healthy, varied diet is still much more effective in losing weight. A good exercise program helps too. A good attitude helps the most, and this is something not offered with any diet.

Help for the Home Based Business
Wouldn’t it be great to get some good, affordable, reliable help, even though you work out of your home? But finding workers and figuring out where to meet or when to bring them into your home office can pose some difficult juggling, personal and security issues.
A popular solution is outsourcing. When you outsource, you can hire experienced people and let them use their creative talents while you focus on other tasks. Another benefit is that the workers you hire may be more up to date on the latest information and technology in their specific fields and can be assets to your clients, as well, offering improved quality service.
OUTSOURCE
Here are the basics to outsourcing:
Focus:
Focus on outsourcing some of the major tasks of your workload. First, sit down for a breather and look around your ’To Do’ lists and office area. What CAN you outsource? Which work seems to pile up the most?
For example, maybe you can’t seem to find time to update your website each month. Maybe your newsletter is STILL not getting out regularly. Or perhaps your direct mail campaign is not quite as direct as it should be; i.e. it is sitting directly in the same pile it was three months ago.
Then write out one-page project description for these major tasks. Focus on WHAT exactly you’d want done, WHEN and HOW the end product should turned in to you.
Take Action:
Then look for service providers. For example, with the sample tasks above, find people who can help with Internet websites, newsletter creation and sending out direct mail campaigns. Call round and surf the Internet and ask other home based business operators which companies they recommend. Check forum posts; inquire for advice and suggestions. Shop around for comparisons.
Then set up trial periods and test a couple. Remember, no one is perfect. See who you can communicate with pretty easily and who’s flexible to work as a team player. Check out the quality (and quantity) of their work. Then choose a candidate. Remember, this decision is not carved in stone. And you can always hire the other person as a back up or second helper down the road. So be kind to all who test, make decisions and keep your business moving forward.
ROI:
Make the most out of your investment and get a great return by investing in your time wisely, too. Outsourcing will hopefully free up more time for you to focus on the work you like and allow more time for marketing and advertising, to increase sales and projects. Don’t forget to brush up on your skills and keep up with the industry now, too. Read the latest ezines in your field and take a brush up course or workshop to improve your skills.
Network and seek out joint venture opportunities.
Outsourcing is a great way to help small businesses grow larger while still remaining at home. So reach out and give it a try!

Choose a Licensed Massage Therapist
When choosing a massage therapist it is important to check his or her credentials before you commit to a session. One of the most important things to realize is that every state has different requirements for the certification process. Some states may require that the massage therapist become licensed while others may simply require them to obtain a certificate by graduating a course. You should contact your state’s licensing board to determine what credentials massage therapists need to obtain to practice legally within your state. If you have difficulty contacting the right agency, you may want to simply call a local massage therapy school and ask them what the laws are regarding the requirements needed to operate as a massage therapist. Chances are that the massage school will have all of the information that you need, and if they don’t, they can point you in the right direction.
Once you determine the state’s requirements, you must take the time to ask different therapists for their credentials before choosing one. If your state requires that the therapist receive a license you’ll discover that this means the state is regulating their practice. This offers the most protection for the customer and ensures that you will have legal recourse should something go astray. For a massage therapist to become licensed means that he or she attended a school and successfully met all of the requirements needed to graduate. Some of these states will even have a state operated massage licensing board governing their practices.
If your state doesn’t require the therapist to become licensed, they may require them to obtain a certificate. This would result in the massage therapist having the title, Certified Massage Technician. The certificate shows that the therapist attended some sort of training and their work has been completed satisfactorily, however the Certified Massage Technician would have typically undergone less training than a Licensed Massage Therapist normally would. Some states require a certain amount of schooling, as denoted by required training hours. In addition, the school may require an exit exam to be completed before a student may graduate. It’s also important to realize that some states have absolutely no policies in effect governing the massage therapy industry. Whether through a license or a certificate, it is important to verify that the massage therapist has met the legal requirements necessary to practice within your local geographical region.
If you have selected a massage therapist but have discovered that your state does not license or certify massage practitioners, you may want to contact your local courthouse and ask if there are any laws or rules that apply to massage therapists. Many times there are certain laws that will apply to massage therapists, even if they do not expressly say so.
In addition to licensing and certification, it is important that massage therapists stay involved in their field. This can be accomplished through joining associations and staying current with industry trends. You should ask the therapist if they are involved with any outside affiliations.

Top 10 Places to Post Your Free Content
The growing trend of success of most online businesses nowadays is greatly dependent on the viability of content-rich articles that are used as a primary alternative to advertising. This feasible type of promotion is known as article marketing.
Through article marketing, the business is promoted with the use of articles that has the writerís ìresource boxî placed at the bottom of each write-up.
This concept was, basically, patterned after the idea that the reason why most people browse the Internet is to gain information and not just for entertainment, like what it was used to be.
Nowadays, as the Internet consistently grows and expands, rendering more feasible means of eliminating lifeís petty problems, more and more people are enticed to use the net.
For this reason, most online business have come up with an idea that the style of marketing and promotion on the net should not be patterned with the same concept that their tangible counterpart is using.
In the Net, you do not have to spend more money just to advertise your products. The only tool that you need in order to promote your business is for you to write some articles that will help other people in their daily lives.
Therefore, if you have your articles ready, the problem now lies on where you will post your articles. In reality, there are thousands of sites that are available for your free content. However, not all of them will generate traffic to your site.
The important thing in choosing the places where you will post your article is to find those that will generate more traffic. These are the sites that have high traffic, which, generally means they have many visitors.
Once these visitors are redirected to your site, there will be more chances of boosting your sales. However, it is important that the traffic that you have generated should be targeted on your particular market preference. This is because if you have posted your articles in a website that does not cater on your targeted market, then, everything will be put to waste.
Therefore, for those who wish to find the best places to post your free contend and increase your sales, here is a list of the top ten sites that will work best for you:
1. Article directories
Article directories are websites that primarily caters to different kinds of articles that provides a wide variety of information.
With article directories, you get to list down all of your articles in one website. However, it is a one-way place for your free content, which means people can only read your articles and not use them as contents on their own websites.
2. Article banks
On the other hand, article banks are considered as two-way websites, which means that people can read and use your article as long as they include your resource box every time they post your article.
Like banking institutions, writers like you will ìdepositî free content on the article banks. Then, some websites will ìwithdrawî them as long as they will pay the ìinterest.î The interest refers to the ìresource boxî that the website owner will have to post along with the article that they will use.
3. Search engines
The most common site where people obtain different information is on search engines. It is where they can find almost all of the answer to their questions and queries.
The giants in search engines are MSN, Yahoo, and Google. Once you have submitted or posted your free content on your sites, you are already on your way to better traffic and improved sales. This is because these three popular search engines alone can definitely generate better traffic because they have millions of visitors every single day.
4. Ezines
An ezine is basically a website that provides articles that people can use as a research source or information supply.
On its technical description, ezines are actually electronic magazines. Hence, from its basic meaning, ezines primarily function like magazines, providing various information and featured articles to the readers.
5. Discussion forums
Who says you only have to post your comments on discussion forums? What most online businesses donít know is that they can also post their free content to the different discussion forums available in the Internet today.
Here, you just have to find a topic that is associated with your business and participate on the forum. Then, you can already place your resource box that would link the potential customers to your site.
6. Link exchange
This is one way of getting some websites agree to place your article as well as your link back to your site on their place. In turn, you will also place their free content as well as their links to your sites.
7. Press releases
These are sites that primary focus more on press releases. Hence, if you have a press release about your product or simply about your site, you can post it on them.
8. Testimonials
Try to find sites that accept testimonials on their product. You can tell the website owner how they can benefit from your testimonials. But try to ask them if it would be okay to place your link along with your testimonial.
9. eBay
You can directly post your product for a sale in eBay. In turn, you can also place your links on the page so that interested people will be redirected to your site.
10. Network sites
These are the sites that are gradually obtaining recognition in the industry. With these, you can generate traffic without having to spend more money just to promote your product.
Now you know where to post your free content. So, all you have to do is to make as many articles as you can in order to generate more traffic to your site.

Liposuction - Can I Afford It?
Category: Life
When considering a cosmetic procedure like liposuction, there are many factors to consider before committing to it.
Finding an experienced plastic surgeon to safely perform the procedure is extremely important, but affordability is as well ... and that doesn't mean finding a discount or coupon.
Deciding whether or not you can afford this elective surgery involves more than just the monetary expense of the procedure itself.
Of course, the actual cost of the liposuction is the first expense to take into account. Cost is determined by the body part needing the procedure and the size of the person. Arms, thighs and hips fall into the lower range of cost, whereas the abdominals and breast area fall into the higher end.
Depending on where you live or get the procedure also determines the cost. There can actually be a huge difference in cost. For example, liposuction on the arms can range from $1500 to $5000. Upper and lower abdominal is the most expensive area and can range from $3000 to $7000. These are approximations in cost but give a good idea of what to expect.
There are a number of ways to pay for the procedure. If cash is not readily available, some financial institutions offer cosmetic surgery loans. Credit cards are another option. But, however you pay for the procedure, a possible interest rate on the fee is another factor to consider when determining affordability.
Another expense to consider is missed work. Do you have the time available to take off work to heal from the procedure? Healing time is determined by the body part and extent of the procedure. While some may only require rest for a weekend, others may require more time for recuperation. Five to ten days are recommended to recuperate from liposuction. Sick days or personal days may help, but decide if unpaid days off will be doable if necessary.
Another cost and probably the most important one- at least in terms of making the surgery worthwhile- is lifestyle. While liposuction does remove unwanted fat, it is not a guarantee that the fat will not return. It is important to commit to a healthy diet and exercise. If fast-food and video games are still on your favorite to do list, all the money spent on liposuction will be a waste.
Carefully consider all of these factors to determine if you can really afford liposuction. Though it is a procedure that can improve you confidence and your look, it should not cause financial stress.
If you decide that the costs are feasible, it is important to spend your money wisely. Do not simply choose the physician with the cheapest rates. Or don't assume the one with the most expensive is necessarily the best surgeon. Cost is determined by a lot of factors that do not even consider the talent and knowledge of the doctor.
Always research the physician by seeking out referrals, inquiring about her expertise and make sure she is experienced for your plastic surgery. She should also conduct a thorough consultation with you before performing any type of procedure.
Author Resource: Getting liposuction, San Antonio can restore your figure and get rid of extra fat. Maintaining your body after surgery is also an important consideration. A San Antonio plastic surgery consultation may give you the guidance you need.

5 Reasons Gay-Straight Marriages Can Work
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Romance and Relationships
Most people think that divorce is a foregone conclusion when one spouse comes out of the closet as gay in a marriage. While it is true that the majority of mixed orientation marriages (MOM) do break up (about 80%), it is also true that a significant percentage of couples manage to hold it together. Since the overall statistic for divorce approaches 50%, one can extrapolate that about 30% of MOM's end in divorce primarily because of the homosexual issue. About 20% stay married, despite all the odds. So how do they do it?
Every couple is different, and what works for one will not for another. In general however, the success in maintaining mixed orientation marriages will be dependent on several factors.
1. The basic strength of the marriage. If the husband and wife function well as a team and maintain strong lines of communication, the chances of success are greater. The more problems there are in addition to one spouse being gay, the more likely the marriage will not be able to survive. If the overwhelming issue is that a spouse is gay, but the marriage has few other problems, the marriage is more likely to survive.
2. The existence of mutual love and respect. When spouses describe each other as best friends and profess love for each other, there is a greater likelihood the marriage will survive. This aspect may seem a bit confusing, since the gay spouse is naturally romantically attracted to the same sex...so how could they profess love for their spouse? This is possible for two reasons. First, although a gay person may be predominantly attracted to the same sex, it is entirely possible to be occasionally attracted to the opposite sex. There is a theory that attractions occur on a continuum and that very few people are strictly 100% gay or 100% heterosexual. Second, there is a distinction between love and being in love. When pressed, many gay spouses will admit to being loving toward their spouse rather than being in love.
3. Open mindedness to alternative lifestyles. When both spouses are agreeable to trialling options such as open marriage, a third partner or swapping, much pressure on the relationship can be alleviated. These options come with their own set of risks, though. It is best to seek professional guidance prior to embarking this path in order to keep the relationship as centered as possible. An alternative to seeking external sex partners is for the couple to expand their creativity in the bedroom, including the use of toys, cross-dressing, graphic videos and role playing.
4. Sex drive. If both spouses happen to have a low sex drive, there will be less pressure to find alternate partners. Of course, being gay is not just about sex, but rather the romantic emotional attachments derived from a same sex partner. So, even with low sex drive accounted for, the gay partner may experience a desire to form an emotional relationship outside the marriage. In some cases gay spouses are able to connect with others in the same circumstance and form non-sexual emotional relationships.
5. Strong religious beliefs. This factor can work either for or against a couple in a MOM. If both spouses share a strong belief that the marriage vows cannot be broken, then there is tremendous motivation to find ways to make the relationship work. A danger to avoid is in trying to change the gay spouse's orientation to straight. There is no evidence this works over the long haul. A much better option is to acknowledge the gay spouse and to try and accommodate their needs. Religious beliefs can work against the couple if it causes the gay spouse to experience guilt and depression.
If you are a spouse in a mixed orientation marriage, you owe it to yourself to give careful consideration to the decision to divorce or stay together. Do not make the assumption that it can't work, since many MOM's do succeed. Instead, stay open minded, consider experimentation both within and outside traditional marriage boundaries and seek professional assistance to help guide your way.

Get Healthy With Couples Massage
Have you been looking for a healthy way to spend time with your significant other? Your busy schedules usually keep you from exercising together and with the fast pace of the day there's not always time to plan a healthy meal. So what can you do together that takes you away from the same old places? How about a Couples Massage? A Couples Massage is done by two massage therapists in one room with the couple.
How can Couples Massage help you both stay healthy? Massage therapy helps you improve your health due to the many healthy benefits of massage including: improved circulation, greater flexibility, better sleep, feelings of wellness, stress reduction, and reduced muscular pain.
Now that you know that Couples Massage can help you improve your health, you might want to know what types of massage are available to you during a Couples Massage. There are many styles and techniques used in Couples Massage but there are some that are widely available that you can receive during your session. The best known massage therapy techniques for Couples Massage are:
1. Swedish Massage - this is the most common of massage techniques in the United States and perhaps the world. Swedish massage is known for its long gliding strokes, kneading strokes, friction strokes, and percussion as well as joint movements that feel great while improving range of motion. It's most often thought of as a "spa" type of massage but it's much more than that. Swedish massage is great for reducing stress, improving circulation, improving range of motion of your joints, and helping you actually feel better in your own skin. Swedish massage can range from light pressure to a heavier pressure depending on your comfort level.
2. Deep Tissue Massage - right behind Swedish massage, Deep Tissue Massage is one of the best known and most often requested massage techniques. This massage is used to root out chronic tension in the deeper musculature and connective tissues that contributes to pain and loss of range of motion in joints. While some practitioners use a heavier, sometimes uncomfortable, pressure in Deep Tissue Massage it should be noted that a more moderate pressure can reach deep tissues and achieve great results with little discomfort.
3. Hot Stone Massage - this massage is probably the most relaxing and luxurious massage used in Couples Massage. Heated stones are added to the massage and are used by the massage therapist to perform a mini heat treatment as well as gliding strokes that seem to melt away stress and tension.
4. Sports Massage - just like it sounds, Sports Massage is geared toward athletes at every level from professional to the "weekend warrior" and those who strive for a higher level of fitness. Rather than a specific form of massage, Sports Massage is generally a combination of massage techniques tailored to the athlete's needs. The Sports Massage might be applied to one area to relieve pain or might be more general in nature to assure overall performance. Sports Massage is great for athletic couples.
5. Neuromuscular Therapy - also called "NMT", Neuromuscular Therapy is a well known technique for relieving muscular pain throughout the body even "referred" pain that originates from someplace other than where it's felt. This technique uses very targeted massage techniques, positioning, and stretching to release myofascial trigger points in muscles as well as restrictions in tendons, muscular attachments, and sometimes fascia surrounding the muscle.
All of the massage techniques described here can help a couple receive the health benefits of massage. Of course there are many more massage therapy techniques available during Couples Massage that are relaxing, stress reducing, and that relieve chronic tension and pain. You actually don't have to know what type of massage to ask for, you just need to know what you want to achieve. Do you just want to relax? Reduce muscle soreness? Relieve pain? Improve posture? Ask your massage therapist what they recommend for your particular health needs and get massaged together.

Massage Therapy For The New Year
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
The New Year has come and the resolutions have been made. The number one resolution is usually to get into better shape or improve your health. Keeping one or both of those resolutions would be great but we probably all agree that it's pretty hard to do. So, what if it were easier to keep those resolutions? Well, it's easier to get into shape or improve your overall health when you add massage therapy to your health and fitness regimen.
How can massage therapy help you to keep your resolutions? There are many ways but two stand out. First, massage therapy by itself can help you improve your health due to the many healthy benefits of massage including: improved circulation, greater flexibility, better sleep, feelings of wellness, and reduced muscular pain. Secondly, massage therapy can help you get into shape because the nagging soreness and pain from a new workout routine can be reduced or eliminated. When your pain levels are reduced you are more likely to want to continue your workouts. Receiving regular massage therapy can also prevent muscle soreness and minor injuries that could prevent you from keeping up with your workout schedule.
Now that you know that massage therapy can help you improve your health and fitness, you might want to know what types of massage therapy are available to you. There are many styles and techniques used in massage therapy but there are some that are available pretty much anywhere that you can integrate into your health and fitness routine. Athletic Physique: A Commitment To Strength, Conditioning and Fitness Optimization
Category: Sports
The "out of shape" want to "get in shape", so they look for workout programs to maximize muscular size and aerobic capacity. Just look at most popular workout programs and you'll see variations of the same thing. Resistance training to build muscle and aerobic training to burn fat and improve aerobic endurance.
But they are wrong! (Sorry to be so blunt, but it must be said.)
The strong, lean, athletic body most people strive for is NOT the product of maximizing muscular growth and aerobic capacity. Big bulky muscles and the ability to exercise at a low intensity for long periods of time is not the key to the athletically attractive body most men and women desire. It never has been, and never will be.
If you want the strong, lean, muscular body that looks, feels and performs great, you must commit yourself to strength, conditioning and fitness "Optimization".
The simple fact is, to achieve your strength, conditioning and fitness optimization goals you must commit to pursuit of performance improvement, not muscular size and aerobic capacity maximization.
Committing yourself to strength, conditioning and fitness optimization develops performance improvements which forces the body to make physical changes to increase performance. These physical changes include building muscle, burning fat and improving heart and lung power. Ultimately, training for performance improvement leads to the physical changes most people want.
So, what's the difference between maximization and optimization?
There are a lot of physical abilities involved in being fit. For example: strength, power, speed, flexibility, balance, coordination, agility, accuracy, endurance and toughness. When you seek to optimize your fitness, you take all these physical abilities into account. When you try to maximize only one physical ability, the other physical abilities are neglected. This often means you maximize one ability at the expense of all the others.
It actually gets worse when you try to maximize a result of training, like muscular size or leanness. Imagine only focusing on muscle size, without any regard for how much fat you have on your body. Or, imagine only being concerned with fat loss, at the expense of athletic muscle. In either case, the desired body is not the result of seeking to maximize only one physical result.
On the other hand, an athletic physical is the RESULT of training all the physical abilities needed for a high level of fitness. Your training is a compromise, and your athletic physique is the result of this compromise. Because the fact is, the strong, lean, athletic body is capable of doing many things well under a wide variety of circumstances, and not the result of only being able to do one thing well.
Don't get sidetracked from optimizing your fitness, performance and physique!
The truth is, the vast majority of the fitness industry is dedicated to muscle size and aerobic "maximization". The programs found in most commercial gyms or "fitness" publications are designed to make your muscles larger and increase aerobic endurance (as if those two traits alone were the keys to fitness excellence). Unfortunately for the practitioners of these types of programs, big muscles have very little to do with performance and aerobic endurance is only one of many elements needed for fitness excellence.
So, if you share my goal of a strong, lean, athletic physique train like an athlete for strength, conditioning and fitness optimization. Forget about maximum muscle growth and aerobic endurance, and train to optimize your athletic performance. The result is a body that looks great, performs well under a wide variety of circumstances and is better suited to get the most out of life.
This is what you want from your training, right?
Author Resource: Coach Eddie Lomax, founder of the Optimum Fitness Network, believes we are all athletes and should train like athletes. His Athletic Body Workout targets general fitness, fat loss and strength and muscle building for an athletic physique you can be proud of.

What Is The Truth About Leukemia, And What Can It Mean To Me?
Category: Life
Leukemia hits about 10 times more children than adults. The ACS or American Cancer Society calculates that this year, approximately 30 thousand new cases of leukemia of 2 thousand children and about 27 thousand adults in the U.S. will be diagnosed.
Leukemia, a type of cancer, starts in the inner, soft portion of your blood-forming cell bones, known as bone marrows. This happens when excessive growth of white blood cells is present in your blood, referred to as leukocytes.
Under normal conditions, the blood-forming or hematopoietic cells in your bone marrow produce leukocytes in order to protect your body from infection caused by bacteria and viruses.
However, when some of the leukocytes are broken and stay in their immature state, they turn out to be poor fighters of infection that excessively multiply and never die as should be the case.
Leukemic cells then build up and decrease the manufacturing of oxygen-carrying eythrocytes (red blood cells), normal leukocytes and platelets (blood clotting cells)If left untreated, then the excess leukemic cells overpower your bone marrow and enter your bloodstream, eventually invading other body parts like the spleen, lymph nodes, liver as well as the central nervous system consisting of the spinal cord and brain.
Leukemia symptoms
In children, due to defect of white blood cells that fight infection, they can experience intensified infections and fever episodes.
Other common leukemia symptoms include:
1. Bleed and bruise very easily, going through recurrent nosebleeds or bleed unusually long after going thru minor cuts.
2. Aching joints or inside the bones, sometimes bringing about a limp
3. Swollen or inflamed lymph nodes
4. Poor appetite
5. Abnormal tired feeling
6. Become anemic and experience shortness of breath during playing.
Forms of leukemia
Leukemia and leukemia symptoms can be either chronic or acute and myelogenous or lymphocytic.
In acute leukemia, the abnormally produced blood cells generally are blasts which remained immature thus can not anymore perform their normal tasks. The blasts rapidly increase so the disease quickly worsens.
In chronic leukemia, a few blast cells can be present but generally these are more mature or developed cells that can perform some normal tasks.
These cells appear to be mature but not entirely normal, because these live much longer and result to certain types of white blood cells accumulation. The blasts increases not as rapidly as in acute leukemia, therefore worsens gradually.
Myelogenous and Lymphocytic leukemia refers to the 2 different types of cells where leukemia began. Lymphocytic leukemia grow from lymphocytes and Myelogenous leukemia grow from monocyte white blood cells or granulocyte white blood cells.
Treatment
There are 2 stages of luekemia treatment namely induction therapy and maintenance therapy. The main focus in induction therapy is to lessen leukemic cells and induce a remission.
Remission is the stage whereby the cancer already is responding well to treatment or it is under control.
Remission may be either complete or partial. When the cancer is within complete remission all symptoms and signs of the cancer disappears. Partial remission means the cancer has shrunk but did not disappear completely.
Remissions may last from several number of weeks to years. Complete remissions can go on for years and can be confirmed cures.
The second stage of leukemia treatment happens after an individual suffering from leukemia goes totally into remission. This stage aims to kill remaining cancer cells and extend the remission period for as prolonged as possible.
1. Chemotherapy uses drugs in order to kill leukemia cancer cells.
2. Radiation therapy employs x-rays or other forms of high-energy rays in order to shrink tumors and kill leukemia cancer cells.
3. Bone marrow transplant is a procedure wherein the patient's affected bone marrow is changed with a healthy marrow.
Note that most cancers may be prevented or avoided by making changes in your diet or lifestyle which can lessen risk factors. In leukemia, unfortunately no risk factors are known; therefore it is difficult to prevent it.
