Rev. Wright Is So Wrong!

Rev. Wright's recent appearances are doing more harm then good to Obama's campaign. He is being selfish in his actions to defend himself and preach his beliefs at a time that is critical for Obama. After weeks of silence, why come out now? It almost seems though he is deliberate in his attempts to bring more negative spotlight on Obama. Obama has since denounced Wright after the recent comments he has made about him. He should not be held accountable for what Wright has said. Hopefully the media doesnt play this out and give Wright more attention then he needs, yeah right! Check out this story: HERE.

Sean Bell Case: Not Guilty - WTF?!

Today the verdict was reached in the Sean Bell case. It is saddening however not so amazing to me that NONE of the police officers who shot 50 bullets at unarmed men, killing one and injuring another where not sentenced. The justice system has failed Sean Bell, his family and friends. The judge stated that he did not feel that the prosecution could "prove beyond a reasonable doubt" but what is there to prove when the facts are clearly showing (in my eyes) that the NYPD wrongfully killed this young man, just hours before he was to marry his fiance. The fact that the victims had no weapons and the sheer number of bullets shot prove that the police were excessive in their actions to say the least. Had this case been presented in front of a jury i believe the police would have had a different outcome. But, I guess it is what it is. This is a corrupt world that we live in. Let's hope the civil trial goes better. RIP Sean Bell.

This week in politics...

Hi everyone! I’ve been trying to keep up with the campaign and all the Obama/Clinton drama and this week has been full of things to talk about. First it has been revealed that McCain’s ancestors were slave owners. Now this is no surprise to me, considering how this country was run up until 2 decades ago, but its good to know.... Hilary ’challenged’ Obama to a Bowl Off! Wow you know that she is desperate to win this thing if you wager your political career on a game of bowling....And Hilary’s husband hasn’t made the fight any easier by throwing a tantrum in front of some Super Delegates....And the morale of the story is Obama is the best one for the job! Check out the news for yourself!
McCain story.
Bill Clinton story.

Remy Ma is going to the slammer!

Its official! Remy Ma is going to do some time. Today she was convicted guilty for shooting a woman over $3,000. Her defense claimed that the gun went off on accident, but clearly that story was not believable. I dont get this. I understand that Remy is a rapper and she is trying to gain or maintain street credibility. I also understand that I wouldnt stand for any one trying to steal from me, but come on look at the bigger picture. Even if the woman did steal the 3 stacks, thats just 3 stacks. I bet she could get 5 grand or better to do show. She risked the life of her ’friend’ and her freedom for small change. Now she is facing a max. sentence of 25 yrs with a min. of 5. Im sure the reality is setting in now, yet another rapper caught up. Hip Hop cops are watching, dont slip up! Check out the full story on Global Grind HERE.

Russell Simmons On the Clinton and Obama Drama....

Russell Simmons posted a blog on Global Grind in resonse to how he felt about what Sen. Obama’s Rev. said about race and the political arena. Here’s my stance:

Race is a touchy subject. I agree that overall, peoples views on race are changing for the better and this can be proven with Obama running for President. But, on the other hand, racism is still very prevalent in our society. There are some people who might not consider themselves to be racist, but have been taught to think racist thoughts. The media’s coverage of the campaign has exposed how some people feel about race as illustrated with Geraldine Ferraro’s recent comments. Those people make judgments based on skin color and are probably threatened that a Black man may have the opportunity to change the ’old experience.’ Regardless of his race, height, or any other physical attribute, it seems to me that Obama is more than qualified to be the next President of the U.S. and I support him in that effort.

Russell Simmons Endorses Sen. Barack Obama.

I read on Global Grind that Russell Simmons is endorsing Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. The way I see it regardless of who wins the presidency they will presented with a tough job, cleaning up all of Bush's mess. I think that Obama is the best candidate for the hurdles that lay ahead when attempting to transform this country. Russell's endorsement is def a good look. People in the hip-hop community may only see him as a hip-hop mogul, but his political activism cant be ignored. He is using his knowledge, celebrity and influence to work towards change. And he believes that the change that he is striving for is attainable with through Obama. I can dig that.

Reaction to Will.I.Am’s New Obama Video.

Sorry I haven't been posting that much lately, but I will get back on my grind. I caught Will.I.Am's new video for Mr. Obama on Global Grind. I like it. He def has managed to catch the emotional side of politics with his videos. Its great that so many stars have come out to support Obama. I believe that their endorsements are positivley affecting his campaign. Sadly many people are not concerned with politics so they may not research the issues, watch the debates or research the candidates. But if someone sees their favorite celebrity endorsing a public figure then they may take a deeper look into what matters. Not that anyone should vote for somebody just because another person is, but at least celebrity's are using their influence to create awareness and possibly motivate others at the same time.

Auction raised $42 million to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa

Bono organized a charity auction along with artist Damien Hirst on Valentine's day. The auction raised $42 million and 100% of the proceeds will go to HIV/AIDS relief programs in Africa run by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Its great that people are using their celebrity to raise money for people in need. Items sold include a decorated steel and glass pill cabinet titled "Where There's A Will There's A Way" that sold for $7.15 million! If people are going to spend that much on art, then its great that the money is going to aid the sick and hungry instead of people who are already well-off.

Hip Hop Cares: Hip Hop Summit Action Network

The Hip Hop Summit Action Network will be honoring several hip hop artists for their contributions and community service efforts. Ciara, Jim Jones, Snoop and Chris Lighty are just some of the people who be recognized on Feb. 25th at a fund raising dinner. I think that it is great that hip hop artists are being recognized for their efforts. Often times good deeds are overlooked, especially when it comes to hip hop. The youth can benefit from seeing the other side of artists.
