August 7 performance with PWRFL Power!

We're pleased to announce we'll be performing Thursday evening, August the 7th at Maxwell's in Hoboken, with the venerable PWRFL Power! Seeing that the All Points West Festival in Jersey City starts the following day, we'd like to think of our show as the unofficial Hudson County Summer Jam kickoff.

Attention all Holler faithful (those of you that are repeatedly subjected to the same 6 songs), we'll be premiering a new one we SO hope you enjoy.

Holler!

Holler featured on Real Rhapsody/ begin listening to the Caledonia Mission

George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes, we've joined the likes of these rhapsodic ranks, and we're pleased to announce Holler, Wild Rose! is now featured on Real Rhapsody's Indie Music Hub. It's a great page devoted to showcasing fledgling independent artists; you can stream our song 'Sun Vines' there, or download it for free.

Secondly, you need to start listening to the Caledonia Mission. We were afforded the opportunity to play with them Monday night at Union Hall, and everybody who hadn't heard them was blown away by their imaginative songwriting, superb musicianship and seemingly limitless ability to use dynamic in creating atmosphere and landscape. We hope to perform with them many more times in the future!

Union Hall Monday night!

Calling all Brooklynites, Manhatters, Queens and Jerseyans.

What's the greatest thing you could do on a summer Monday night? Besides sitting on your porch drinking a summer ale or lemonade, it'd have to be seeing us play live at Union Hall in Park Slope. We were invited to play the show by our friends in the magnificent Caledonia Mission, who at heart are Ohioans but now happen to grace our archipelago.

Holler plays at 10:30, so be there for 10 PM. Actually come early, have a drink, and play bocce.

More Details here.

Raw Investigations Review (FRANCE)

Newbie: Anne

"I'm a fool and I can't explain it / but I can see for miles and miles"

It says in the opening track 'Holler, Wild Rose' and this line describes perfectly well how I felt during the process of writing this review or rather the mild trying of writing one. My colleague and close friend Lisa can tell you a thing or two about it, being the one who had to remind me more than once to finally put down in words what I already knew those tunes evoked in me.

But as we all know, it is hard to describe something you love and admire. And in the case of Holler, Wild Rose's latest album 'Our little Hymnal' it is love. True love - deep and dark and captivating. So captivating that I had this album with me at all times over the course of weeks. And just like love itself it ripped the blindfold from my eyes, which daily routine had placed there. With my mind and ears set on this soundtrack, nature's beauty revealed itself right in front of me anew.

It seemed as if John Mosloskie's passionate vocals pulled the hills out of the ground; the wailing guitars forced the waves to the shore and at nighttime the stars seemed to be a little closer with every beat that filled my heart and soul with glee. When I drove in my car it was hard to ever stop. I simply had to reach the endless horizon, wanting to touch the 'seafoam skies' described in "Color that sky". Which for me does not only mark the highlight but the most emotional part of the album.

During these roadtrips 'Our little Hymnal' turned into my gigantic personal anthem. Always on repeat, always in one go. I could name only a few such homogeneous musical works and I would want to argue about the title of this one if it weren't for the Selah who made me step aside from regarding 'Our little Hymnal' as one big chunk of music only: Three, in comparison to the remaining 9 songs, rather short sound captures, which introduce us at different times to another setting and remind us to stop and listen afresh. And as you do so, you'll notice that the sounds of trains, the howling, the windspiel, the singing glasses and the bells herald the start of a different story. A perfect example would be the churchbells in the third Selah clearly calling for the 'Promised Braid'. And the upcoming storm in the second one breaks into rain during "Color that Sky".

In the end it is up to the listener to decide whether he wants to let himself be carried away by the whole 72 minutes and 43 seconds of sound or rather follow the concept of the Selah and reflect on the stories behind the songs. Each one of them being equally brilliant. They tell of lust and longing, change and goodliness in such a beautiful language performed by an uniquely beautiful voice. One way or another, 'Our Little Hymnal' will remain a timeless piece of art, which seeing it being performed live I can't wait to get the chance to.

You'll read about it here first!

Newbie: Lisa A.

As soundtrack to the last year (or listening to it right now, your current life, maybe) Holler, Wild Rose! presents us passionately their debut album "Our little Hymnal".
A wide range of instruments, songs of 2 to 12 minutes length and the Starsailor like voice of singer John Mosloskie kidnap all senses to carry them to emotions never expected.

The most striking about this album is its ability to put the listener into a trance. Also, the impression that the musicians themselves are trapped in their own trance-like world occurs as harmonies, every single note, every single instrument, matches the other.

This effect is especially underlined by songs, that can't be recognized as such anymore, one glides into the other, unrecognized. The mood may change, but very slow, hardly distinguishable. It's a perfect huge mass of sound that continues from the first second you started listening until it's suddenly all over. This is one of the rare pieces of music that you can listen to at anytime.

Having its sad and yearning moments (e.g. "Mercy Beat") as well as cheerful ones (especially the beat and melody of "Sun Vines") this album isn't only a "hymnal" as it calls itself, it's a story. Holler, Wild Rose! are storytellers, telling the story of life, with its up and downs, it's love and hate, happy and sad moments, irony and honesty.

However to listen to the record for the first time might overwhelm you a bit too much and you'll be confused by so many sounds and feel exhausted, as if you've been on a journey yourself rather than have listened to one. But after the second try at the latest, you'll be hopelessly in love, taken away in the world that was created by Holler, Wild Rose! and the only thing you have to be careful about then is not to become too addicted, forgetting about your own, real life. It is hard not to drown in those sounds.

It's not a noisy album, it's very subtle but that's what makes it so dangerous to lose yourself in these songs. Using not only instruments but sometimes also sounds of nature in an Arcade Fire-ish way gives the perfect illusion of its world. Maybe, in order not to get too addicted, this album should be put into your player shortly before sleeping, when you're allowed to flee your own world, into a world of dreams.

Let Holler, Wild Rose! be your muse, let them kiss you and inspire you to dream until "Promise Braid", the last song, slowly fades away after a whole 72,43 minutes break from this world.

It's worth every second of it.

Busy at work on the Marylawn Hair short film

Hello Holler faithful!

If it seems we're in live show hibernation, let it be known it's no account of idleness on our part. We've been busy at work on filming our promo short for the song Marylawn Hair. Our own Ryan C. and Scott are literally breathing, eating and dreaming it's direction and production- shower them with encouragement in binary hugs and kisses.

Playgrounds, subterranean animals, troops of dancing children, the innards of arcade games (wait, what did they say?) : patience, dears- you're in for a treat. With production ending early March, we're excited to share a visual interpretation of the music we've lived with for so long.
