2008 SHELBY GT 500 KR JOY RIDE
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Automotive
Last week I got to go for a spin in the new 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 KR "King of The Road" limited edition Mustang. The Shelby GT500 KR Mustang features a 540 horsepower 5.4L supercharged V8 with Ford Racing Power Pack upgrade, 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short throw shifter and a beefed up suspension. The exterior has a unique Carbon composite hood, 18-inch wheels and special 40th Anniversary badging along with GT500 KR striping.
Here I am between the 2008 GT 500 KR and the 2008 Supersnake…

I am a classic mustang enthusiast, but I can't deny the awesome handling and feel of this 2008 Shelby Mustang. It has incredible power, and it's smooth as glass. It accelerates like a mad thing and made us scream with excitement.
A car must have power to be truly exciting, yes. But what I was actually wondering as I was gazing at this motor was… " how many people can we fit in the back seat?"

We were at " World Class Motoring" for a Mustang meet

and I REALLY wanted to take our test drive in the GT 500 KR on the tight windy roads of Malibu down to Paradise Cove – which is a fun restaurant on the beach…. literally, - if you spill your food it lands in the sand. A speedy windy test drive is MUCH more fun with more people screaming in the car.
Well I got my answer, you can comfortably fit 3 people in the back of the new GT 500 KR, provided the one in the middle has a relatively petite behind. Also provided there are no adults around to tell you you can't do this.

So our friend from Mustang Monthly took us on a THRILLING RIDE through the winding roads of Malibu. This Mustang handles and feels like a dream and it's even better when you have a professional driver like Miles Cook at the wheel and a carload full of Mustang enthusiasts…
My only complaint is that the new Shelby is very very quiet, and personally, I like to hear the thunder.

A Day At The Shop
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Automotive
Friday June 27th I went to Marlon's Frame and Alignment in Chatsworth Ca. to have new sway bars put on my mustang.

.. -->more-->
Miles Cook, one of the editors of Mustang Monthly was there to do an article on it to put in next months issue of the magazine. It was an awesome day, here is Miles getting started…

Here I am with the old and new sway bars…as you can see the old ones are not very strong looking at all. To be honest, they did almost nothing…
Here is the set of new sway bars and accompanying parts…

I am a "hands on" kind of girl. Fortunately the guys at the shop let me get in on the action and take pictures AND ask questions about what was going on, pretty much every step of the way. It is VERY important to me to be able to do work on my own car and learn as much as possible. Here you can see Miles setting up his camera to photograph the installation…
I am joining Brian under the Mustang while Bill assembles parts, and Miles takes pictures of the process for the article.

Installing sway bars is a pretty simple task. It basically involves mounting the bar onto some brackets and then mounting the brackets onto the undercarriage of the car. A really good sway ( actually anti – sway) bar means a world of difference to how your car handles. I am having sway bars made by "Traction Master Company" in Burbank, California installed today www.tractionmaster.com Traction Masters actually donated their bars to my 1965 Mustang FOR the magazine article ( THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!). Traction master company has been around since 1950 and they are located in MY hometown. Their sway bars are solid strong and reliable. Visit their site to see how the bars are made and how they work . You have to put a bushing on which has liquid Teflon coating on the inside between the bar and the bracket. This protects the sway bar.

To mount the brackets you have to drill holes… this only takes a couple minutes…
Here Bill is drilling holes to mount the brackets while Miles is photographing for the story.

We got the first bar done in a relatively short time…

You gotta love "auto shop décor"…

When we finished the sway bars, we put new shocks in my mustang. Fortunately the shop had some extra KYB shocks. KYB shocks are strong enough that I can't push them down with my own weight, therefore I like them. My old shocks I could push in with both arms. Since I am not "that" strong – this gives you an idea of how SHOT they were. Here is a picture of me holding my old rear shocks which I was NOT happy with.

In order to put the rear shock in we had to pull out my back seat. Once we got the shocks in, I had to jump in the trunk to push from the back to help them reassemble….

We were done with the shocks in no time. The drive home was awesome! I had so much fun! I felt safer and as a result I could drive more comfortably and with more confidence. It handles like a dream now, stable, strong and solid. THANKS TO MARLON, BILL, BRIAN AND MILES.

Racing Champion Dan Gurney and MustangMadam
Current mood: chipper
Category: Automotive
I was invited to Galpin Ford (WE LOVE GALPIN!) to meet Racing LEGEND Dan Gurney. He signed a poster for me, AND he signed my glove compartment box in my 1965 Mustang.
Dan Gurney ( born April 13th, 1931) has been a driver, a car manufacturer, and a team owner at racing's highest levels since 1958. He is one of only four US-born to win a Formula One Grand Prix, and the only one to win in a car of his own manufacture.
Gurney also won races in the Indy Car, NASCAR, CAN AM and Trans Am Series. Gurney is the first driver to win races in Formula One (1962), NASCAR (1963), and Indy Car (1967). The other two are Mario Andretti and Juan Pablo Montoya. He also won the 24 hour Lemans. He is a living legend. I have to say – Galpin Ford has the best looking, most charming and accomodating staff of any car dealership I have been to. They made me feel welcome and comfortable.
Here is Dan Gurney signing a poster for me… we were chatting a little as I was telling him about my classic mustang and our website and he was telling me how he used to own one and what a great car they are.

He was such a gentleman!

Here are some photos of the new 2009 Saleen Gurney Mustang. All 300 of the Gurney Signature Edition vehicles will feature Saleen's 465 Hp supercharged 281 cubic inch engine, short throw shifter, and 3.73 Max Grip rear axle.

Here Dan Gurney is talking to Mustang historian "Bob Fria". Bob has written the most complete book on Mustang History to date. His masterpiece will be published hopefully within the year. He ALSO happens to own the FIRST PRODUCTION HARDTOP MUSTANG.

Here Dan Gurney is signing my glove compartment box. He is TALL – I think about 6' 3.

Here is Dan Gurney and Mustang Monthly editor - Miles Cook.

After all our photos and signing he spent a lot of time just chatting with people at Galpin Ford.

On MARCH 21st, 2008 I had written the following blog about the 2009 Gurney – Saleen Mustang that was about to be released:
This week at the New York Auto Show today, Saleen Automotive announced its new partnership with racing legend, STUD, Dan Gurney. I say stud because he has amazing credentials that "legend" doesn't cover.
He also won the 24 hour Lemans – which impresses me even more.
Saleen and Dan Gurney are partnering to for the creation of a special Gurney Signature Edition Mustang.

"It is amazing that just two years ago Saleen was standing on stage here at the Javitz Center with Parnelli Jones and today we are with his long time rival and friend, and truthfully one of America's racing heroes, Mr. Dan Gurney," said Saleen President and CEO Paul Wilbur.

All 300 of the Gurney Signature Edition vehicles will feature Saleen's 465 Hp supercharged 281 cubic inch engine, short throw shifter, and 3.73 Max Grip rear axle. In addition, the vehicles will have bitchin' custom two-tone seats – the kind that hug your thighs and keep you in place behind the wheel. I like. ..

The late model Mustangs are looking better and better – as they PULL IN MORE ELEMENTS FROM THE PAST. One day very soon I feel FORD is about to admit that they never should have never left the body styles from the first 15 years. The body of this new car looks like Dan's 1969 Trans Am series Mustang. "I am pleased that they could make a car that is so beautiful but still so true to my old race car.
At the end of the day, all I really want is a car that is faster than Parnelli's" said racing great, Dan Gurney."

This was a first...
Current mood: amused
Category: Life
A gentleman in the "adult" film industry asked me to go out with him.
In my life, I have never watched porn, and certainly never met a porn star.
I don't know why, I guess Im just prude, actually I think of sex as more of an art form and I felt that that "genre" of film seems to be more on the " a little too" straightforward side. I like guessing, hinting, seduction and mystery. But hey, to each his own. :)
So, this evening as I was sitting there in the Las Vegas airport very innocently minding my own business this nice looking, sharply dressed man comes over and asks me a question. Then walks away, then comes back and sits down right next to me and starts just talking to me.
He asked me what I did, I gave him my card, I asked him what he did, he said "Im a porn star". Really - I think my face turned red, as I put it in my hands. I said, NO! YOU ARE NOT!"
Oh yes. He was. He gave me his card. Then, proceeded to ask me all about myself and tell me about the various muscle cars he has and has owned. IMPRESSIVE.
Since we were talking he decided he was my boyfriend for the rest of our plane trip. He carried my luggage, and sat next to me, told everyone we were married and embarrassed me. He told me things I am not sure my ears have ever heard and I honestly was a bit shocked.
Since I am a curious gal, I interviewed him about his life during our 1 hr. flight back to Burbank, CA. EVERYTHING. His first job was making donuts in Portland Oregon ( I was born in Portland), then he was a professional bicyclist who actually became famous in europe, to the point of needing bodyguards, then he became a male escort which led him to his current career, wrote and published a book about womens sexual "keys", gave classes on it as well. Now he also has his own instructional videos. Apparently my section of the plane ( I later found out) was listening to my interview and his answers with wrapped attention, and probably a bit of shock. I found out because when I mentioned casually that he had kept the plane entertained they turned and blushed and laughed. Well I do have "digging deep" "Barbara Walters" style questions and his answers were "colorful".
He asked me for my phone , asked me out on a date, carried my luggage off the plane into the waiting area, then put my luggage in the back of my truck when my girlfriend " VanaStang" came to get me. He introduced himself to my girlfriend and gave me a hug goodbye. He also offered to drive me home and gave me his DVD which he said "only" had an interview in it.
Porn is really not my thing, I realize it is popular with a lot of folks. I imagine probably more with guys than girls. But Jack was a very very nice gentleman, charming fellow, very entertaining for me and other Southwest airline fliers - and I really hate carrying heavy things.
