A quick blog, as producing a film means we lack sleep, and late at night, the brain functions at about 50 percent. Today was a good day. After months of auditions and the casting process, finding the right people hasn't been easy. Especially for the content we want to make. The main requirement, above everything else, is that the talent have to be able to act (sounds paradoxical i know). We are making a film here, with story, art direction, character development etc etc. As I was saying, today = good because it was the first day where we corralled some of the main cast together to take pictures for publicity purposes. It cemented the realisation that with all the people we have on board, this is going to be an exciting, stimulating, not to mention chaotic and creative time, where we make the sex and the art how we want to see it, and trust you do too. Something raw, entertaining, titillating and passionate. Anyways, you probably don't give a shit about that stuff, so I will post some pics instead. We did have some fun.

Harassment from Family First begins!!!

Audtions...part deux.

Well, who ever said trying to do something different would be easy?
Silly us for trying to break the mould. Auditions for our film 'The Band' in Melbourne, Australia, what can we say:

Amusing, interesting, eye opening, exhilarating, disorganised, reorganised, weird, and saturated with fat content.

We held some auditions in March, they went well. We held some auditions in April, they too, went well.

That's the Politically correct version, so to speak. March's auditions got an expansive array of people from all walks of life coming to audition for our New Wave Erotic film. Probably the most amusing incident was that, on one of the acting sites where we had posted our ad, it had been condensed into a one line grab of 'adult actors wanted for independent film', you can probably guess how well that went down. Wide eyes and shocked stares from the few who came from there. Hmmm, better luck next time people, and good luck with your acting careers.

The more remarkable moments consisted of a certain young man just dying to get his kit off to have a go in front of us. Amusing as our only thoughts were of him not splashing his potential children on the nice carpet in the art gallery. I rushed to the toilet for toilet paper. He was kind enough to await my return, not too much came out though, as he had already had a practice run earlier that morning. Another young fellow, who had come from interstate to audition, broke out in an exceedingly greasy sweat and proceeded to touch me as part of his (ahem) acting routine. Not a pretty sight as I slunk back into the recess of my chair. It was a hot day, but this was ridiculous.

The girls were good but obviously sparse. We are thinking the ratio is about 20:1, that's males to females. And out of those 20 odd males, maybe 1 or 2 are suitable.

April's auditions, more of a call back and a group work-shop really. Reading the script and all that jazz. What made this day interesting was a well known journalist from The Bulletin Magazine, and an exceptional photographer, who apparently doesn't do photojournalism anymore but liked the sound of us, came along and spent the day with us, and our prospective talent. Probably scaring the shit out of them, as little did the talent know they were going to be in a four page spread of the bulletin. At least that's what I think it is, but I havent seen it yet, due to those miners, damn those miners. But if you look out for it, should be out in the next couple of weeks. Pretty pictures.

Ok so what we are still missing are women. Where are all you smart, intelligent, sexy women, who like breaking boundaries? How many times do I have to reiterate IT'S NOT PORN. Yeah there is some hard core content in it, sure. It's a movie, with sex in it. A more honest interpretation of the crappy Hollywood shite they put out these days.
It's independent, raw, ground breaking material, produced by women who want to change, remould and infuse genres. Think outside your box!

We are still looking for women performers, who want to get involved. We would like them to be able to act, obviously, but if Liv Tyler and those of the same ilk can break into the movie industry, then I guess the right attitude will do. If you know of anyone, please dont hesitate to contact us. They can come sit on our casting couch and deliver some dialogue.

How to hold an adult talent audition?

Well it's started. We have begun the 'official' look for adult talent, and it's proving to be an amusing beginning. If only we could write scenarios about some of the people who apply to act in films being made for a female's sensibilities. Well we could, but I don't know how erotic it would be, just a comedy of errors, really.

We placed an ad in seek.com, which we thought was worded appropriately, but maybe a little too subtle for some people. I mean, the guys seem to get it fine: seeking adult talent for New Wave Erotic film, set in the Melbourne underground band scene, similar to films like 9 Songs, and intimacy; yet the females might be reading it a little differently to how we expected. Obviously, looking for adult talent in a country with such a small population was going to be an interesting experience, but never the less, we forge on.

I've figured it out as this, guys think: 'oooh, free sex' and chicks think: 'I can be a film star'. I guess people will take what they want from an ad. It would also probably help if people checked out the web address given, so they know what they might be applying for. Or even research the films stated in the ad itself. I worry about people sometimes. It's also entertaining, in a weird kind of way; one girl, when asking where the auditions are being held, says 'oh, hold on, my mum might know, she is dropping me off'. Hmmmm, me thinks, *scratching my head*. Does your mum know what you are getting into? Film star she's thinking. Well a film star of sorts, certainly. I'm trying to imagine the look on her mothers face when she returns to describe her experiences.

Thanks to Johnno, Roger and Mick who applied. Johhno, I hope your girlfriend forgives you for wanting to be in an erotic film, without her prior consent, sorry she found out mate. It was probably Roger who told her, didn't want you to ruin his chances you see.  Rog, and Mick, I don't know if we can actually use you, as flannel shirts went out in... well actually, where they ever in? Anyways, mullets aren't really 'rock-star' or are they? I don't know, I think I missed out on that recycling of style.

Ahhh well, no doubt it will turn out to be an enlightening and humorous experience. If you would like to participate in auditions, find the ad for Hungry Films on Seek.com, it will be under the entertainment industry section. Auditions are this Saturday. We might be able to squeeze you in somewhere.
