Cherished friends and acquaintances, both reputable and less so,
This message is to inform you that Mr. Huxley Vertical, purveyor of fine music both strange and exquisite and his orchestra for Cabaret Nouveau shall, for your listening pleasure, perform at New York City's Duplex Cabaret Theatre. It is worth noting, The Duplex is the city's oldest oldest continuously running cabaret space.
And what auditory delights shall envelope your ears and enrapture your soul? Why, my dears, none other than the songs appearing on our very own album of musical delight, accompanied by a selection of songs from the vaults chosen and orchestrated with delicate cruelty by Mr. Vertical himself.
To attend this fine event, all one needs do is RSVP (though not strictly required) to the Duplex's Cabaret Calendar found at www.theduplex.com, locate August 28th, 9:30 pm, and select "make reservations" and thereafter follow the prescribed directions. Then, please appear in person at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre at the corner of 7th Avenue and Christopher Street in the delightfully irreputable Greenwhich Village, on the second floor.
Your attendance is both appreciated and salaciously anticipated...
August 28th 9:30pm The Duplex $10, plus two drink minimum reservations highly encouraged, but not required.

So I am at a coffee shop that shall remain nameless in Penn Station in NYC. I have arrived about 20 minutes ago on the Long Island RR from the Air Train from JFK. This was after a 4 hour flight and 2 hours of sleep and nothing but a bag of chips and a bottle of orange juice. I'm hypoglycemic so by blood sugar is especially low. The boyfriend can't meet me for lunch so I am here. Alone. And cranky. Very cranky. And feeling rather sorry for myself. This is one of those I-f*cking-hate-NY moment.
There's a woman behind me talking very loudly. She's on the phone, I think, with her internet hotel booker. Apparently her room was canceled so she's in NYC with no accommodations.
Wow, it could be so much worse, I think to myself (and I know---I have been there).
She goes on and on with the person on the other end of the phone. About how someone promised her a free room, and who is gonna make that happen?
I feel my sympathy start to wane as I realize, if she were talking to me like that I would be less likely to want to help.
Then she goes for the throat.
"I don't think you must understand English very well. I need to talk to someone who actually speaks English!".
Now, I understand her anger. I understand her frustration. I even understand her losing her manners. But, that was just plain rude.
At this point, there's the manager she has been demanding.
And she accuses the same thing. And this time, she'll call the Better Business Bureau. Are they even in The United States? she asks.
At this point, I look across the table at the stranger, a blonde woman maybe 10 years my senior, who is sharing her table with me. I have finished my sandwich and iced tea, and though still very tired, I am suddenly very appreciative of her kindness. As she leaves, I thank her again.
It will only take me 30 more minutes to get up to my apartment and take a nap. I just had an awesome vacation in a city I love. I had friends to come down, and I have someone to come back to. Yes, my life is crazy, but I am getting to live the life I always wanted, even if i am not at all sure where my regular money is coming from this September.
I'm happy. Or at least, content.

Current mood: tired
Hey all, So now while I am down here in the beautiful ATX, I managed to get the CD up for sale at Waterloo Records (N. Lamar at 6th St).
Pretty cool!
If you're in Austin, it's also available at Backspin Records on Airport Blvd. Of course you can still get it at CD Baby and on iTunes and Amazon.
the Austin trip is winding to a close....this afternoon my friend Lee and I are going to scavage at the Citywide Garage Sale and tonight my friend Alex is having a party. Then tomorrow I am seeing my friend Mark and headed up back to NYC on Monday.
And once I am back in New York, it will be time to get ready for all those shows! I'm also playing a lot with Bobbyblue.
