Meet the i-to-i team!
Category: Travel and Places
Want to travel the world? Looking for an authentic cultural experience? Let us show you what the future could hold at an i-Spy Taster Day!
We hold 'i-Spy' days throughout the year in destinations all over the UK. These short sessions are designed to give you "taste" of what it's like to travel with i-to-i. They'll introduce you to a whole world of meaningful travel opportunities, so whether you're looking for a volunteer project in South Africa, a well-paid teaching placement in Taiwan or a cultural tour over the Peruvian Andes, you'll find out how to do it here!
As well as meeting the i-to-i team, you'll hear directly from returned volunteers, watch some fascinating video footage from our overseas projects, experience what it's like to teach English to people who don't speak your native tongue, learn about our travel safety courses and get involved with several fun, interactive activities! And don't worry - there are plenty of breaks for tea and biscuits too!
These sessions are held in London, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Cork and Dublin (to name but a few)! To find one near you, take a look at our calendar here on My Space, visit www.meaningfultravel.co.uk, or drop us a message to find out more...
Hope to see you soon!

International Volunteer Day Tomorrow
Hi there,
Just in case you didn't know already, International Volunteer Day is tomorrow (5th December) and with the season of goodwill just around the corner, we are urging you to back the fight against mindless holidays and join the thousands of others worldwide who are swapping their hedonistic trips in favour of overseas volunteer experiences.
International Volunteer Day salutes the excellent work done by exceptional people around the globe. We are proud to be marking the day with a fantastic 272 volunteers placed at numerous worthwhile projects around the world.
So we would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has volunteered with us, as your efforts have made a huge impact in areas that desperately need support.
Your fantastic achievements include:
- Releasing up to 50,000 turtle hatchlings in five countries each year
- Replanting 200 acres of rain forest every year in Ecuador
- Helping around 500 endangered animals a week in South Africa
- Building homes for underprivileged families in seven countries
Well done!

i-to-i Hits the Road!
I'm excited to announce that we are bringing our message to the masses with a unique tour of the UK.
The campaign, which got underway yesterday (13 November) at the University of Leeds, will see a duo of pimped up split-screen VW camper vans visit a series of key universities and major cities over the next six months.
As well as letting everyone know about the travel opportunities available with i-to-i, we will be helping the many communities with which work. By asking people to pass on their unwanted items, we will gather supplies for various projects, including pens and pencils for under-resourced schools and kits for underprivileged sports programmes.
In addition to the collection, there'll be some other fun stuff including giveaways, sponsorship of university events and competitions. The university road shows will include open day events where people can drop in to hear talks and chat to experts about living and working overseas. An SMS service means that people will be able to text for a brochure too.
The eye-catching vans will also be putting in appearances at a number of exhibitions and travel shows over the coming months, as well as causing a stir driving around city centres.
So keep an eye out for some funky campers because we could be coming to a town near you!
Sites will include Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Nottingham.

NEW stuff
Okay - apologies if I get a bit salesy for a minute but I get terribly excited when we launch new trips at i-to-i. This week I'm giddier than when it's the X-Factor final because we've introduced a two-week meaningful tour of the Caribbean, conservation work with the Golden Lion Tamarin in Brazil and conservation work in the South African bush.
Three in one go!
And if you want to know more you know where we are. (And just in case you don't it's www.i-to-i.com )
Bye for now!

Against plastic bags too!
Current mood: chipper
Category: Travel and Places
Hello again.
I just saw a blog post from the Centre for Responsible Conservation talking about its loathing for plastic carrier bags.
I couldn't agree more. In fact I have a wide selection of re-usable bags that come with me everywhere - supermarket, work, visit to ma and pa... (but perhaps that's just me being a bit sad).
Anyway, to encourage others to follow suit we've got 50 lovely i-to-i canvas bags to give away to the first people who write in and ask nicely. A postal address would be useful too.
Bye for now!
