8:41 PM - This Ocean is Wrapped Around that Pineapple Tree...
Current mood: excited
Category: Busy/Tired Life

Yeah yeah yeah, it's been a long time since I checked in here.  I'm sure you can appreciate that it's because I've been trying to do some networking and find work though, right?  Well, I'm popping in here now to let you know that it seems to be starting to pay off finally.  I've been in Manhattan for just over a month now (already), so it is about time I guess.

Let's just see if I can make a couple of long stories shortish...

The
two main stories here revolve around Craig's List, which also happens
to be the site that I found the ad for
the photographer I did the shoot with last week.  I should be hearing from him in the next couple of
days to let me know he's sending me a disc of the shoot.

The
first story regards an ad I responded to in which the person was asking
for an edgy Graphic Artist who knows the classics, but also knows punk
(to paraphrase).  I responded to the ad with a handful of my recent
images and a note saying that it sounded like the person was looking for
me!  Then I kinda just put it out of my mind, as I've responded to so
many ads on there without so much as a nibble.  So imagine my surprise
when I get a call a couple of hours later from a restricted number.
The kind of number I usually won't answer.  For some reason I thought I
should take this one and I was glad I did.

On
the other end was this really interesting French woman who was raving
about my work. She wanted to know my background and if I
did silk screening and stuff.  She was adamant that she'll have some of
my work silk screened at some point and said that she's starting a
magazine and would love to collaborate with me.  I kinda took those
things with a large grain of salt, because they just sounded too good
to be true and in New York it couldn't be truer that if something seems
to good to be true then it most likely is.  But she emailed me a link
to
her site
when we were still on the phone and I was just blown away.

Before I
could tell her that she had to go, so we emailed back and forth a bit
after the call.  If we get to work together it's going to be a match
made in creative heaven!  Here's hoping.  We talked earlier this evening and I'm hopefully going to meet up with her tomorrow night so she can show me some images she's done for fashion week to see what I can do with them.  She also invited me to join her at her friend's gallery to see the glass installation there, which would involve a trip down to the meat packing district.

But
there's more.  Yesterday I was sitting here going through Craig's List
ads and I responded to one that was seeking Graphic Artists to design
book covers.  That's something I can do, so I thought what the heck,
I'll send them pretty much the same email I sent Ona (French woman).
Apparently it worked because within the hour I got an email back asking
me what I was looking for and stuff and within two hours of my initial
response I had met with the guy at
the publishing firm and landed a job interning for them!  I start there tomorrow at 9AM!

The job at the
publishing firm is an internship and what I get out of it is great
reference material from working with a major publishing house, as well
as money for train fares and they buy us lunch.  Apparently some
afternoons they ditch work and go to the movies too, so it'll be a nice
fun way to get a foot in the door.  A girl who had been working for
them was offered a job at
ESPN, so it's definitely a good opportunity.

In
addition to these jobs, I have two more photographers who have said
they want to work with me.  One is getting together portraits for a
show he has coming up next fall.  He said he wants to do a head shot of
me, which may sound basic, but he's shooting with 6" negative and wants
the print to be
at least 40"
square!  So that's some craziness.  I checked out
his work and it's
amazing, so that's an exciting prospect.  Then the other photographer
is working on an ongoing series for which he creates characters to
photograph.  He said he'll probably end up creating a character for me,
as I dont fit the bill of the one he was working on at the time I saw
his ad.

So
basically I dove into the deep end of the creative pool and hoped for
the best and it may actually be starting to pay off!  There's been a lot of other stuff going on too and I have about a bazillion pics to share, but I hafta sort through them first.  So stay tuned!

Hope you're all well.

9:19 PM - Have a Nice Bag!
Current mood: curious
Category: Excited/Tired Life

That's what the cute little thing said yesterday after she rang me up at American ApparelHave a nice bag!  Was she so intent on making sure she put my t-shirt in a bag that it slipped from her thoughts and through her lips or was she thinking how she'd rather have put a bag over my head to talk to me, rather than having to see the screwed up mess that is my mouth.  I don't know.  But I think from now on I'll tell people to have a nice bag.  It just has a more interesting ring to it and it's more likely to keep them thinking or at least leave them puzzled.

There's some kind of emergency vehicle that I keep hearing around the neighbourhood.  I think it's an ambulance.  You know how they have this whole fantastic repertoire of sounds?  Well this one has one that reminds me so much of one of the guitar effects in the song Y Control, by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  It's awesome.  I wish they'd come back and play it for me again.  They just came through a few minutes ago.  I think they went down 2nd Avenue, coz I didn't see it go by the window like I did the previous time.

Yeah, that's not the vid for Y Control.
I put that in a post some time ago
and now it looks like the record label
has disabled embedding.
Bastards!
This vid's Down Boy, which is
such
a frikkin awesome song!

I need to wander of down Second Ave to see if the produce stands are out near the park again.  But I don't have much cash on me...I can still check out their prices.  Might wander down St. Marks for a bit too.

Enjoy the vid!  Thanks for popping in!

4:26 PM - New York, New York...
Current mood: intense

WoW!  I haven't been able to access my account for more than a week and in all that time not one person checked in to see what was up, nor did anyone respond to my attempts to communicate through other means!

I haven't been able to access this profile as my passwords are all stored on my laptop, which ran out of power last Friday night and I was unable to do anything about it, due to having left the cable back at my parent's house.  I just got the cable in the mail this morning, so I'm back in business, so to speak.  Now I just need a job.

I did get a resposne from someone just now, in regards to an add I have on Craig's List.  My add is offering my services as an Artist's Assistant, but the person who contacted me wants assistance with hair, make-up, and wardrobe on a photoshoot.  I told the guy I can do the make-up and wardrobe, but I have no experience doing men's hair.  [sigh]  Oh and the shoot's this afternoon way over on the other side of town!  Great advanced notice there!

Well fuck me running!  I just went to call the guy only to find that my phone's dead!  I just hope it's not fried, as I did get caught in a flash flood earlier when I went to get my package.  [crosses fingers]  Meanwhile, I wanted to go to the open call at American Apparel this afternoon to apply for a stockist position.  Yeah, it's more retail, but at least it would have me mostly away from the public.  So I figured it was worth lookin into.  First I gotta get presentable...again.

Thanks for stopping by!  Hopefully I'll have some sort of news soon.

10:06 AM - Have I Told You Lately...
Current mood: restless
Category: Tired/Overwhelmed Life

Actually I haven't told you musch of anything lately!  Been too busyy wigging out and trying to sort, pack, discard, and sell my belongings!  This is a really inconvenient time to be clinically depressed.  Put some ADD in the mix and you've got some real hinderance going on.  Meanwhile I have about six days to get all this crap squared away before I'm outta here, so I really don't even have time to sleep!

I'm not kidding when I say I need a personal assistant because I can get one set of tasks done at a time.  I can either sort, pack, and discard or I can sort, search, crossreference and eBay.  Yes, the last four tasks are all related.  I have to sort through what I have to see what I'm going to sell, then I look for it on eBay and, if it's not there, I Google it to see how much it's going for.  Right now it's all about raising whatever "extra" funds I can and not just paying to post things that don't sell.  So that takes a lot of time!

Anyhoo, I need to get back to the grind, which means I've got to get this sleepin kitteh offa my lap.  This kitteh that I'm going to have to leave here because I don't know at this point if I'll be able to get a pet friendly place or not.  Hope you kids are having a great weekend!

This little curiosity came across my desk earlier and I thought I'd just pass it along to you, just because I like to share like that.  Who knows, you might even end up adding it to your shopping list.  So that might be an additional service you could gather from this.  Actually there might additional services you could get from this beyond that...

Please don't all rush at once to Walmart in search of one of these.  I'd hate to be the cause of a cat fight on the...er...toy aisle.

Current mood: pensive

[If I have one more problem with MySpazz today I'm deleting my account.  Thanks!]

Since my last post was recieved with such overwhelming excitement (THANKS all three of you!) I thought I'd go ahead and treat you to another video.  Maybe even two if you're really lucky.

(IAMX - President)

(IAMX - The Alternative)

Sorry about the shite quality of that second vid.  Still a great song though.  Something interesting about the setting of this clip is the size of the venue. It's from a show in Belgium and the venue looks to be the size of an arena.  When I saw IAMX in Atlanta last year the venue was about the size of a shoe box and not even a Manolo Blahnik box.

Current mood: exanimate
Category: Antsy/Anxious Music

I'm pretty sure I've posted this video before, but I didn't have this great cache of pics to acompany it before.  Besides it was probably widely ignored the previous time.

I figured I'd provide some context here so people don't just roll their eyes and click away, dismissing the post as That Guy pushing his freak agenda yet again.

Yeah, that's hott.  Lick it up hussies!

(An old Burberry ad that Theo did,
late 90's I think.)

(A flyer for Theo's current band.)

(It's glamour bitches!)

(Shots from Screentest, a Performance Art piece collaboration with Rob Roth.)

Next time you walk past a "tattooed freak" on the street, you might think again how you respond to them - they just might be earning more in a week than you do in a year!
That and they might tear ya a new one!

9:43 PM - Your Boss
Current mood: amused
Category: Inspired/Creative Jobs, Work, Careers

I've spent a good part of the last couple of days checking out Photoshop tutorials, just to see what tips I can pick up and what I may be up against.  I've learned a few bits and pieces in the process and also been entertained at times.

This one guy has an ongoing series of Photoshop tutorials, but he makes them more interesting by delivering the information in a comedic manner.  So you get to have some laughs while you learn something or perhaps you might just tune in for the laughs.  Whichever the case, I think the guy's doing a great job, so I thought I'd share a sample tutorial with you.  It may even turn out to be something you could use!

ENJOY!

3:48 PM - Money To Burn
Current mood: anxious
Category: Disturbed/Sickened News and Politics

I just got this tidbit from the news.  You may have heard it too, but this is the first I'd heard of it.  Today Bush just designated One hundred sixty two *BILLION* DOLLARS to his wars! Enough to hold them through to NEXT YEAR!  Nothin fishy there?  I'm beginning to think there may really be some merit to what some politcal forecasters have predicted. US Congressman John Olver was heard to say that he thinks, rather than send more troops into Iran, Bush will bomb Iran, declare Marshall Law and suspend the 2008 elections.

I had wondered about that myself a while back, just based on things that have been happening, but I just kinda put it aside, but then I randomly came across some articles and videos that address that very issue.  Still I was prepared to think that such forecasting such events might be a bit premature, but then I saw this report just now about that enormous amount that was commited to funding Bush's war and I have to think that he may well be setting the stage to declare martial law.

You can think I'm weird or paranoid or whatever, but I'm more concerned about the idea of this country being under the Bush regime for another four years.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds that to be a grim prospect.
