INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS OF OKLAHOMA GALLERY

CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR

HORROR-THEMED ART SHOW

IAO Gallery is now accepting submissions for a Horror Art show.  "Horror Art" refers to both visual and sculptural art and can incorporate handmade haunted house props, Gothic, phantasmagoric, and "fantastic" pieces.  The show will run 11 October through 2 November, so Halloween-themed artwork is also appropriate.

Special F/X makeup artists are encouraged to submit photos and/or film stills, or actual pieces (severed limbs, etc) of their work for consideration.  Dark artists of all stripes are likewise welcome.

Due to the potentially graphic nature of this show, it is requested that submissions fall within or below a PG-13 or soft R category.  IAO reserves the right to jury any piece.

Space is limited.  If your intended submission is larger than a recycle bin, please call first.

18 October is the Video Exchange with Living Arts of Tulsa.  There will be a screening at 7pm at IAO. Movie makers are invited to enter a short flick for this event; approximately 45 minutes of video will be sent to Living Arts and will also be shown at IAO.  Living Arts sends approximately 45 minutes of work to IAO.  Additionally, winning entries from the 2008 TrickConTreat FlickConTreat Movie Making Marathon will be screened at the Video Exchange.  Horror or dark art films would be appropriate for this show, again remaining at or below a PG-13/soft R level.

Submissions may be brought to the Gallery from 9/17 through 10/4 during Gallery hours (Wed-Sat 12-5).  If unable to make it during these hours, please call the number above for after-hour arrangements.

Video submissions ONLY may be brought in through 10/11 or mailed to the address above.  DO NOT MAIL STILL ART SUBMISSIONS.  Video submissions should be on DVD and will become part of the IAO film library.

Call for Film/Video Artists
Category: Art and Photography

IAO Gallery in Oklahoma City is seeking volunteers for the Film and Video Committee!

This is a great way to have some input into the gallery scene, get your stuff shown, help develop some great programming, and meet others of like mind. I'm particularly interested in cultivating young film makers, indies, and special effects artists, so if this sounds like it's your thing PLEASE consider coming. It's low pain (honest!) involving a mere one meeting a month, usually on Sundays, and attending the occasional screening. Eek, free film! Oh, the horror!

It's pretty cool, actually.

Additionally we're trying to grow our numbers so that we're so sexy we can get a state grant to purchase a NLE system for member use. That's worth the $35 annual membership fee right there, baby.

If you are interested, please attend our back-to-school meeting Sunday, 10 August, at 2pm. Bring your suggestions, a calendar, and something to munch. If you are not able to attend this meeting but would like to be on the committee, please contact me off-list at the address below (don't reply to this one) and I will put you on the list.

Tell everyone you know!

Individual Artists of Oklahoma is located at 811 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City, OK.

Thanks,

Holli Kerr

"Corporatocracy" will examine the positive and negative effects that this development has had on societies and individuals. Large corporations have come to dominate much of our daily lives, providing most of the products we consume: food, clothing, household and personal products, entertainment, etc. Even the information which helps us to formulate our understanding of the world around us—such as the news, television, radio and print—is now provided by multinational corporations.

Entries may include any form of visual art, poetry, performance, or film addressing this subject matter. There is no fee to enter artwork, and each artist may enter up to 3 works. However, entries will be curated to fit the gallery space and exhibition concept, so entry does not necessarily guarantee acceptance into the final exhibit. The Drop-off dates for all entries are Thursday through Friday, August 7–9, from 12–5:30 at IAO Gallery.

Biting the Apple 2008 Performance Call for Entries

Biting the Apple 2008

Erotica in Wonderland

CALL FOR ENTRIES

Individual Artists of Oklahoma announces the 17 th Annual BITING THE APPLE ART EXHIBITION to be hosted at our fabulous Gallery Space on Historic Automobile Alley. This year's theme is Erotica in Wonderland, and as the name suggests, we wish to provide, through the artworks selected for exhibition, a "journey down the rabbit hole". IAO is interested in erotic works, as well as art and performances that deconstructs, or investigates the mechanisms behind our perceptions of eroticism or sexuality in individuals and culture.

Rainer Maria Rilke said, "Bodily Delight is a sensory experience…it is a great, infinite learning that is given to us, acknowledge of the world, the fullness and the splendor of all knowledge." Few themes are persuasive and relevant as the role of erotica in human culture, especially when perceptions of both what is erotic and what is art fluctuate . Nude portraits of Boticelli's angels or Mapplethorpe's photographs have been socially regarded as lewd or obscene. As time progresses and various art movements or periods replace each other, people's attitudes have altered to the extent where the artwork is subjected to individual standards from both the audience and the artist. Biting the Apple intends to provide a venue for artists and audiences to explore and broaden this controversial, but otherwise unresolved topic.

ELIGIBILITY

Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

All participants get in free on Friday, April 11
