Category: News and Politics
February 3, 2006
Leaders:
On Monday, February 6, 1:30 PM, the House Federal Mandates & Property Rights Committee will hear 12 bills related to immigration, including HB2073 S/E: illegal immigration reform (C. Gray) and HB 2577 illegal aliens; employment; verification (R. Pearce). Other bills deal with border security, education, and social services. Arizona Interfaith Network is opposed to all of these bills.
Please urge your legislators on the Committee to vote NO on the bills and/or register your opposition on-line in the Committee. Members: Chairman Chuck Gray, Vice Chair Judy Burges, Manny Alvarez, Gary Pierce, Tom Prezelski, Bob Robson.
And join us on Monday for the Committee meeting.
Talking points:
- These bills represent a piecemeal, incoherent approach to immigration reform.
- We want a comprehensive, coherent immigration reform package.
- Some of the bills are unfunded mandates.
- Some of the bills just throw money at the problem.
- There is no coordination with agencies designated to carry out the work.
- There are potential unintended consequences that have not been considered.
- Some of the bills place unfair burdens on business and will cripple business in Arizona.
Two ways to register your opposition to the bills in the House Federal Mandates & Property Rights Committee:
1. If you are registered on-line, you can go to azleg.gov and click on Request to Speak. Note that you are representing Arizona Interfaith Network.
2. You can go to azleg.gov, look under House or Senate, go to Members, and click on their email addresses.
Thanks for your support of a comprehensive immigration strategy.
