California dreamin
Current mood: indescribable
All the leaves are gone and the skies are grey... well they are in SF anyway...not sure about elsewhere. Jone here, just wanted to let you know that we're playing in SF LA and SD in December. We had so much fun playing all those shows last month! It was great to see old friends around the country and make new ones. Thats my favorite part, seeing/meeting friendly folk. The "Stalking Imperial Teen" manuscript now in my hands and I'm diving in today. Cant wait!! Also cant wait for Redd Kross on Friday. That is a guaranteed good time. If youre in the Bay Area theyre at Slims on Friday- see ya there! Here's the scoop on our Dec shows....

the GREAT midwest!
Current mood: grateful
Category: Travel and Places
Everybody who was there and all of you who weren't... Such a terrific weekend we've had on our most recent stint of performances and travels in the grand midwest. We got back last night and our heads are reeling. Thursday we were in The Windy City, the City of Big Shoulders, The White City, Lynn's former home... where we played two fantastic shows. The first was for KEXP, a Seattle radio station that we get along famously with, who were doing a kind of residency in Chicago. We played a set of songs for our friend, the DJ John Richards at Engine Studios. Check out pix from our session at Pitchfork's: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/46168-photos-imperial-teen-live-on-kexp-chicago-il-100407 or even better.... listen to our fresh set at http://kexp.org/streamarchive/streamarchive.asp We hadn't met John, he was really sweet and gushy and though it was early in the day for us, we put out in a big big way. Thursday night we played at the Abbey Pub, a venue we're just nuts about. Will's niece showed up, it was her birthday, our old manager Beth Winer was in the house, Bev Chin, our dear dear friend who's in Chicago temporarily, working on Top Chef, Aaron and Norman, our friends from Cleveland and two mega fans who made a trip ALL the way from New Orleans to come to the show. Kudos and shouts out to them especially! Garth from Seattle was also in the house helping out selling T Shirts, thanks to YOU, Garth. Friday we drove to Minneapolis, a city we still don't understand, and played another radio show at the beautiful studio for The Current, at Minnesota Public Radio. The studio was gorgeous and Mike and Lindsey who helped us with our show were so very sweet and pro. Mark Wheat, mega mega DJ from The Current, interviewed us and it was a pleasure. We spoke of all pertinent things: breast milk, hair do's, the do's and dont's of downloading music.... many things.... and performed three songs, one with a beautiful Steinway grand piano... have a listen to the performance starting Monday at //minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/ongoing/current_performances/ and we'll be sure to post pictures of this performance on our myspace soon. Friday night we played at First Avenue with new friends the Parlour Suite and So It Goes. Really good dancers in the audience inspired us to hold a dance contest which got really really competetive. I never heard the winners name but she won a t shirt. Our friend Dale who used to be in Steel Pole Bathtub showed up with posters he'd made for the show... beautiful! and John, a theater director who recently directed David Mamet's Speed The Plow showed up and thanked us profusely for the use of our songs in his production. Great night, fantastic time, wonderful people but I've got to say, Paisley Park ain't what it used to be. We spent the night there, as we usually do in Minneapolis, Prince has been a fan for a long time and insists... His Purple Majesty seems down... we couldn't put our finger on it... something's not right with Him. Don't take this the wrong way... the accomodations and the graciousness of our Host... amazing and sweet per usual.... but something's troubling Him. We wish him our best, of course. To all of you who shared... Thank you again and again. We'll make it back really soon. Next week: Tackling New York!!! xo, I.T.

The Tour Continues...
Current mood: resplendent
Category: resplendent Life
OHMIGOSH, people, it just gets better and better. The past weekend was California, up and down the coast and it was sublime. Friday at Spaceland was a full on friend fest. Lots and lots of tongue. As in gabbity gabfest up on stage. Lots of chit chat. Major starts and stops but full on energy and reunion feel good vibes with everyone singing along and stomping and clapping and patting our backs. Felt so very nice, thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed. Saturday Jone and Will and I caravanned up the Five and met Lynn at soundcheck and THAT show, ladies and gentlemen, was a fucking revelation. We all feel so strongly about that city and its people, it's where we started and all, and to play and share with that crowd.... words can't explain. It left us all a little bit teary eyed and so very happy. Bella were awesome, they came all the way down from the Vancouver and our friend Kim did an amazing job with the sound. The show was sold out and it felt so damn sweet. Sounded beautiful. And then on to the faire... which... where to begin... It kind of sums up San Francisco, that faire. If you haven't been, you should really do yourself the favor and take a peek at what the world's elite originals, unashamed and boasty, are doing to entertain themselves. Honestly... full on naked people roaming the streets, a man dressed as a leather wolf, men on leashes, topless women, latex'd body suits, more assless chaps then you even know existed.... and IMPERIAL TEEN on stage in the middle of it. It was a dream come true. Such a beautiful expression of originality and free form freak fare.... insanity. We'll put up some pictures shortly. Damn we love that city. Tomorrow we travel to Chicago... Stay well, xo, RB

Shows, Shows, Shows!!!!!
Current mood: thirsty
Category: Music
Touring has officially begun, friends. Seattle and Portland specifically. Friday night in Seattle was dreamy. We played an early set at Easy Street Records downtown. Our friend Bob set up a nice environ with strawberries and cream and pretzels and rental gear. The crowd was really sweet, there was at least one baby in the audience and three Canadians we were really delighted to see. Heidi, one of those Canadians brought to the instore her recently finished manuscript that she hopes to publish..... Stalking Imperial Teen.... It's a novel that documents Heidi's trips from Vancouver to Seattle, Portland and San Francisco seeing her favorite band. Maybe that's presumptious.... 'favorite' band. I'm honestly not sure. I'm working my way through the novel, I'll let you know. The Crocodile show was a blast. Jim, our favorite soundman was in the house, it was a sweet crowd, Garth sold shirts, Bella, our dear friends, opened the show, as did Derby. It was Barbara's birthday, Kurt Reighley came. Butch was a full on singalong and it gave me chills. Portland we played at Lolas. I don't know what we expected but it was a fantastic show. Lynn and Jone and I went to our friend, Helen's horse ranch after the soundcheck. I rode a horse bareback and played in a huge pile of straw with two young girlfriends, Caitlin and Morgan. Will had a date and met us at the show later. Our set that night was a tad different, we couldn't get our keyboard to work so we had to skip the keyboard songs. Sherri came to the show, she's working at a winery, she brought two New Zealanders with her. Bella were really great. We're all home now getting ready for LA and SF this coming weekend. Hope to see you all out there, x, RB

catching up
hello there. lynn here for the first time. i am trying to keep up with my bandmates and their myspaceness. here goes (to be sure, roddy will be checking my spelling, as well.) been busy over here in venice...lots of parks and sand and ice cream. my new favorite drink is sparkling water and pomegranate juice. also, sort of obsessed with hbo's "big love" and wish i could keep up with brett michaels and his show on vh1 - the show in which he is trying to find himself a new lady - have you seen i?...it is really fun to watch. lots of band stuff coming up. it will be fun to play all those new songs live. speaking of new songs, i feel like i would like to tell anyone who is interested about a couple of lines in shim sham that has aroused some curiousity. i recently found out that shim sham club is in new orleans. actually we never had a party there, but there is a breeders poster in our practice space (we share the space with them) from that club. when we first starting writing that song, well i just looked on the walls and found a word i liked, real quick kinda', as i was making up words as we went along, and it stuck. also, rockateen is actually what my daughter told me was the name of HER band. just recently i found out that there is a band with a very similar name (add an "s") on merge of all labels! i was actually giving my girl a shout out, but it seems a few writers thought i was referring to the merge band. what else...i recently worked out to our record. should i admit that? i have the cutest little hot pink nano that my special someone gave me. it was fun, but i have GOT to do more cardio...anyone else? well, this was kind of fun, blogging...i have to go now. i will catch up with you again soon.
