Changing with the Times: In recent years, online shoppers have gotten more computer-savvy and more comfortable making purchases over the Internet, and their expectations have grown. They know what they're looking for and they have more choices, so they're more discriminating about where they'll shop. That's why it's important for online sellers to adapt the way they source products and give their customers what they want. Fortunately, some new trends have emerged in product sourcing that are ideal for the home-based retailer:
Vertical Product Sourcing: Consumers want to buy from e-stores with specialized product lines. Lisa Suttora, of WhatDoISell.com, defines vertical product sourcing as "going very deep and very narrow into a product line…focusing on an even narrower niche." For example, if you sell general home décor, you might concentrate on teen home décor or home décor made from organic materials. But make your products closely related—variety stores don't work well online.
Target a Demographic: Consumers want differentiation, so you as a seller need to look at what makes your business unique and sets it apart from every other e-store. Focus on your customer base—design your web store and word your listings to be appealing to your target market. Give them information relevant to them—if you sell old movie memorabilia, post articles on old film stars or behind-the-scenes tidbits that will give your customers a reason to come back. Do something to add value to your website and make it stand out. Cater to All Seasons: Everyone knows that snow boots sell best in the winter months and pumpkin décor sells best in the fall. But most people don't realize that almost every product sells best at a particular time of year. You can maximize your sales by constantly adjusting your line-up to the changing seasons. For instance, if you sell tableware, start catering to wedding shoppers around June—carry certain types of silverware, napkin-holders, toasting flutes, etc.
If your core products are season-specific, find related alternatives for your standard products' off-season. There's no reason to lose out on sales just because it's chilly out. If you sell lawn furniture, you might not sell a single grill in December. But you might do quite well with heat lamps, or other products for people that want to spend time enjoying the outdoors.
Source Multiple Venues: While there's nothing wrong with working with particular wholesalers on a regular basis, be sure you don't get stuck in product sourcing rut. If you don't utilize the many available product channels, you don't make the connections you need and you don't expose yourself to the many highly specialized products you may not even realize are out there. Consider integrating localized sourcing. Many brick-and-mortar stores in your area may be interested in having an online presence but be unsure of how to get started. Says Suttora, "This represents an opportunity for the e-commerce sellers who work from their home or out of their office to partner with these other companies and it can greatly increase people's income." It's a great way to strengthen your product line without increasing your overhead.

For the online retailer, closeouts present a tremendous opportunity to buy brand name items for less-than-wholesale prices. It's a billion-dollar-a-year industry that continues to expand, fueled by the growth of large retail chains.
Where Do Closeouts Come From?
Closeouts, according to Gregg Greenberg, vice president of LiquidXS.com, refer to "brand new merchandise at the end of its life cycle" and can result from a variety of situations: A large chain store may order 100,000 items and cancel the last 20,000, sticking the manufacturer with that excess inventory. A retailer may refuse to accept large quantities of items due to small packaging mistakes. A factory may over-anticipate the demand for a product and be unable to meet their sales goal forecast. In these situations, to move the superfluous merchandise, the manufacturer is usually willing to sell at deeply discounted prices.
Why Buy Closeouts?
No matter what your store sells, you can find complementary closeout items and benefit from their low prices. There are many obvious advantages to adding closeouts to your product mix: They provide high profit margins, which enable you to sell for hard-to-beat prices without losing money. They act as terrific promotional vehicles. You can use them as free gifts, fantastic bargains, featured items, or loss leaders—these tools are especially effective for bringing traffic into your eBay store. They offer constantly-changing, fresh inventory to supplement your core products. They give you a reason to stay in contact with your customers. You're letting them know what new merchandise you have, rather than just saying, "Come back to my store" without giving them any incentive to do so.
Where Do I Find Closeout Dealers?
Tradeshows and gift shows are great places to find closeout suppliers, who often have representatives there. You can also find them online, but beware of middlemen. Investigate any company before transacting business with them. Find out about their minimums and payment terms. Even if they're legitimate, they may have purchase minimums that are out of your range, and you don't want to waste your time or theirs.
Some companies will allow you to buy quantities as small as one case pack, which enables you to try different products without putting a lot of money into any particular one. You can offer numerous items to your customers, and see what sells, with a minimal investment risk.
Closeouts are a great addition to your current product sourcing base. Says Greenberg, The fact that you're buying closeout merchandise at heavy discounts off of the original pricing allows you to be competitive with major retailers and still make a nice profit.

I posted this to my business blogs last year. As I recieved an urgent email today, that had been fwrd, three times I could see to lots and lots of folks, I am prompted to post this once again here in myspace, in hopes it really can help others out in some way.. I got the old hoax email if any of you reme mber when this first came out, about 200I, or so, I have gotten it a million times now or so. lol... Any way I spent a good part of an afternoon way last year, looking up al these url address in hopes that you can find them as useful as I have thru the years..I have rechecked all the links and they are good at this time of posting... Gees I was glad about that, not in the mood to do a re-do. lol.. Any way read on, its a bit of a read, but I think you will find the resources informative.. huggs to you all Sweetblu

A new virus has just been discovered that has been
classified by Microsoft as the most destructive
ever. This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon
by McAfee . This virus simply destroys Sector Zero
from the hard disk, where vital information for its
functioning are stored.
This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on
your list with the title: *
"A Card for You".*
As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the
computer freezes so
that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+ del
keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus
destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying
the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this
virus caused panic in New York , according to news
broadcast by CNN.
This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft
itself.
So *_don't open _*any mails with subject: *"A
Virtual Card for You.*" As soon as you get the mail,
*delete it !! Even if you know the sender !!! **

Hello Friends,
I received a Bill Gates email hoax letter this past week. It is about the 25th time now in the past few years or so I have received this same type of email. It is just a hoax folks, I don't get my hopes up to make it rich for doing nothing. Many folks do not know it is just a hoax, especially the newer folks online and fresh newbies. I felt compelled to do a bit of investigating about this email. I have had this sent to my email thru the years in some variant form or other, from many kind hearted good folks who simply felt they wanted to help out a friend or family member with the possibilities of lots of money for nothing.
I fell victim to forwarding this once way back in about 1999. Well folks I never got rich, my friends I forward this too never reported back to me or any one else we knew in common, they had become rich. I have never forward this or any other type of of email like this again.
I have also learned a valuable lesson online once from a really terrific friend... I had emailed another type of letter which was supposedly true about a particular Lady? in national headlines I really do not remember what it was about, but point being it was not a true story. I should have investigated it first before sending it on to all my friends on my email list. What I had done was in fact forwarded unverified false information. One of my friends did check it out and replied back to me... To check out the historical facts first as it was not correct. It was advise well taken.
Any way to make a long story short as I am rambling on here a bit, I have some links here you may be interested in. When and or if your not sure about something that sounds to good to be true, or if you feel you have received an email that may be in the nature of a hoax, scamming and or a complete rip-off.. When receiving emails from well intended meaning friends about virus alerts, go to a virus site and read about the top ten most virus alerts. You will also be able to look up the hoax virus's floating around the internet also.. Trend is a great one and so is McAfee and the Microsoft sites. You also can always opt-in to receive the top alerts in your email from the legitimate proper sources. With every one of us out here on the worldwide web sending our well meaning emails that are only hoaxes, we only serve to slow down the internet mail servers our own internet service providers, and bog down the internet with unnecessary clutter. Not to mention we also waste our own time and that of our friends... We also creat and propagate the hoax to continue..
Always friends if you can go straight to the source. The actual website, or do a google search on the matter. You should be able to quickly set your mind at ease. If not ask a friend for help. I hope you will find the links I searched for useful and helpful.. I have used these programs myself. I am not a genius or internet guru by any means, I am just like most of us online trying to protect ourselves with the best tools and knowledge we can find. Also due to the fact that we now have so many new spyware, malware, and viruses etc popping up on us daily in our email, and now surfing I am including also some links I feel are legitimate programs I have used or I am using and are great free ware programs. I just wish to help inform others of a few of the things I have learned by experience somtimes way way bad, of some of the dangers online and some of the programs and protections that are available for us to use freely.
Most likely as you, I also can not stand spammers, virus writers, hackers and spy ware, nasty pop-ups, and all the evils lurking around the internet every mouse click and keyboard stroke I take. I am sure some of you know exactly what I mean. Just a short time ago I had a very dear friend who is a newbie fall victim to a free professor video CD program disk to help teach html and help you to build your own websites. Any and all transactions you do thru PayPal service Or Ebay, you can always login to your member account sites to read news updates regarding your sites and account personal information. Always type your login site address in fresh The emails many of us receive in our emails alerting us to security issues and account problems or updates are spoof mail. Deceitful folks using scare tactics about your account being suspended and asking for you to update your personal account information by providing you a link to click on and enter your information. These deceitful folks even go so far as to build sites identical to papal and or Ebay sites. By the way if your not aware papal is an Ebay owned company.
My daughter Jen likes to download free games, my goodness the spyware tracking cookies, malware, unwanted toolbars and such that is bundled up with is unreal. Be very careful which sites you get the free downloads from..... Nothing is really free most times. Any way we are all potential victims at one time or other. The email I received today was the legendary Bill Gates will make us real rich by tracking our emails we forward on to our friends as the supposed new beta email program is being tracked. lolol... Yes Victim, Oh gullible me.... smile...
Remember nothing is ever 100% safe, secure and guaranteed. But we can help ourselves and others in the online worldwide web community to be safer....As a reminder it is very important to change our passwords at least every 6 months. The site links offered below have free programs, and very useful information and resources...I recommend these programs and the information not as an affiliate of these programs, but as a happy online net surfer just like you, and online business site holder.

Free download fixes for, several virus removal programs for a
single specific virus. I located the minmail.c fix here. Yes
I opened an email, knowing full well I should not, but my
curiosity took over my knowledge..
Well folks it killed this cat. lol... I had also at that
very time forgotten to turn my avg anti virus back on after
a program I was running stopped responding..I should have
shut down proper not just taken the quickie fixes to finish the
project I was doing. The forgot... dummy me...
Many more fixes also will be found extremely useful.

This scanner is an ActiveX applet. After a short delay in which
your browser downloads the control file, you will receive
a"Warning Dialogue" requesting permission for the scanner to run.
Click "Yes" if you wish, and the applet will pop up and
automaticly start the scan. I accepted the activex on
this program, have used it several times now and I have no
probs with it. Genrely it is very unwise to allow activex controls,
but I took the risk ONLY after reading about the program and
the company and felt fairly secure using it.
I have no regrets at this time..Use at your own discrestion please.

If you use a firewall or zonealarm, test your puters ports..
I have done this with my fire wall on and off. I love watching
how zonealarm stops each and every probe to my puters ports.
And then as you watch with it off, you know you just
left your self wide open when you see your new test results. lol..
Plus this site is so full of excellent free resources and
information. No it does not hurt your puters port to be probed.
Read about it and you can judge for your self, wether
