My Governor, The Pimp Part IV: The blind leading the blind.
Current mood: amused
Category: News and Politics
Why does no one tell me these things? The new Governor is black, I’m cool with that. And also BLIND? WTF? And he is rocking a killer ’stach?!? Who the hell is this guy and how did he become our governor without anyone knowing who the hell he was? Thanks a lot Spitzer, you dirty bastard! Insert your own Ray Charles joke here.

MythosQuest, Chapter 8: Dead Giveaway
Current mood: Lovecraftian
Category: Lovecraftian Writing and Poetry
Some thoughts I had after reading J. Vernon Shea’s "Dead Giveaway" in The New Lovecraft Circle. When I read that Shea had told Ramsey Campbell that the office setting of his story was inappropriate to a Lovecraftian theme I thought he was being a Jackass. I liked that story he was referring to "The Stone on the Island" and further more don’t think there are off limit settings for horror.
But I will give him credit as one of the best authors in this collection. Dead Giveaway is a great story that holds a creepy vibe from start to finish. The plot reminds me of the trailer for a movie called "Trick’r’Treat" which never came out. They advertised it to be released around Halloween, as both the film and the story take place on Halloween night, but it never got a theatrical release. Hatchet got dumped on DVD too and that was a great little slasher that seems to be selling well in the DVD market. Hopefully "Trick" will be out on DVD this Fall and I can compare it to "Dead Giveaway" and see if it has any Lovecraftian Elements.

My Governor, The Pimp Part III: Sex with Socks on!
Current mood: fascinated
Category: News and Politics
Sex scandals are on thing but how much of the details do we really need to know. The New York Post, a scandal sheet if there ever was one, has gotten its dirty little hands on some papers detailing the type of sex Spitzer is into, who his favorite call girls were, and that he liked to strip naked for the deed... but always wore his black knee high socks while he balled off. Too much information... the saga continues...

The Iraq War, Year Six
Current mood: aggravated
Category: News and Politics
Five years, 4000 dead and when told that 67% of the American people now oppose the war the Vice President looks at Tim Russert and says with contempt "So?"
I’ve been looking back at things I wrote around the start of the war. My anger at the events come blaring through. And in a way I feel sorry, because I sound so innocent then, not knowing everything that was to come, the shock, the awe, the lack of WMD’s, The Dean Campaign, The re-election, the insurgents, my fathers re-enlistment, Franks deployment, My fathers injuries, and now his leaving to serve in Afganistan.
I call the post-911 mindset "The Forever War" ... I wonder how close to the mark I come with that...

GRINDHOUSE Tuesdays: Week 26: I am Legend/Mulburry Street
Current mood: angsty
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Grindhouse Movie Night Week: 26 Date: 03/18/08 Pick: Steve/Tom Movie: I am Legend/Mulburry Street Attending: Ashley, Carrie, Matt, Randy, Spring, Steve, Thom, Tom Rating: 7 out of 10, 7 out of 10
Well the plan for this week was to take grinbdhouse on the road and actually go out to see a movie but that plan got canceled due to Tom and Carrie not being about to find a sitter for the kids. Oh well, we planned a back up anyways.
The plan was a post apocalypse night with I am Legend and Mad Max. I got I am Legend at wal-mart, mostly because it came in a two pack with Terminator 3 which I was going to by anyways, score! I rented Mulburry Street incase Tom couldn’t find Mad Max in his closet. Turns out he bought MulBurry Street anyways so I wasted $4 on the rental!
On to I am Legend... A good adaptation I saw this one in the theaters last year and was somewhat impressed. I wasn’t expecting much, and I am not a huge fan of Will Smith but he carried this movie, filling well the shoes of Vincent Price and Charlton Heston who played the role before him.
Can you tell me how to get , how to get to Mulburry Street! Todays movie is brought to you by the letter W for WERERAT! and the Number 8,949,562, the number of WERERATS killing everyone in the city!!! Yes in film number one the world was over run by vampires, in film number two .. WERERATS!!! Zombies your days are numbered... Next up I’ll review ... Flying Zombies ... Maybe... Till then, I’ll be... The Strange Creature

Diary of the Dead
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Tom and I took a little trip up to Rochester to check out Diary of the Dead, the long awaited fifth film in the Dead saga. I have heard some mixed reviews of the film but Tom and I both give it two thumbs up. It was really cool that we got two free tickets when some guys at the theater we talked to complained about the lights being on at the start of the film. Plan on seing this one again who wants to go?

My Governor, The Pimp 2: Two Hookers and an Eightball
Category: News and Politics
Can you believe that I write this shit? The Elliot Spitzer scandal gets even worse. Seems he was a repeat offender. He’s spent over $80,000 on hookers at about $4,000 a bang. Thats 20 trips to the love doctor. What do you wanna bet this is all gonna come down that this was on the tax payers dollars. And he paid for the girls to travel across state lines so .. that’s federal charges. ... Damn.

Mythos Quest, Chapter 7: Hellboy: Wake the Devil
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
On to Volume Two of the Hellboy Trade Paperbacks "Wake the Devil" which is also one story complete in one volume.
Notes on Lovecraftian Elements:
1. More is reveled about the night Hellboy was summoned to Earth. The Ogdru-Jahad is seen speaking an Un-Earthly language. It is seen that the dead can travel to other dimentions at will if they have the knowlege to do so, as in the Randolph Carter stories.
2. Rasputin speaks of the "Music of the Spheres" being Chaos deep in space. In the dream Cycle, Azathoth is the god of chaos who dwells in the center of space and time mindlessly playing his pipes.
3. Rasputin says that he is the messenger of the chaos, the servent on earth of the Ogdru-Jahad. Here he is similiar to the crawling chaos, Nyarlathotep, who is the messenger of Azathoth, god of chaos. in both case they travel in human form and go out where there masters cannot, paving the way for their masters plans.
4. Hellboy himself in this story comes across as somewhat of the doomed Lovecraftian protagenist who fights against his inhuman bloodline. He is sent to earth to be the enemy of man but sides with his human half. The demonic look instead of the Innsmouth look?
