The Past

New Love
I don't know what never-leave-me love is.
Those who swore to never leave ~ left.
I don't know what it means to love for ever.
The concept of for ever love seem to be qualified
By parenthetical timeframes or mood swings;
And there always seems to be conditions attached
That restrict and bind unconditional love.
So I don't expect hollow promises
With meaningless words that won't be kept,
However sincerely they might be spoken.
And I will not give speech to cloying cliches
Couched in soft caress and sweet kiss
That would turn what is true into ignoble lies.
But when cerulean eyes touch my soul
With unbeguiled, tender love such,
That did penetrate like perfervid fire
The icy shroud that surrounds and shields
This heart so old, jaded and cold.
I am found amazed, in wonder and awe
At the asseverate love I feel, undeniably new.
