JJ Sleep Through The Static Tour (behind the scenes)
As Jack Johnson wraps up the final leg of his "Sleep Through The Static Tour" we wanted to take a moment to recognize some of our very talented friends whose imagery graced the LED visual display that provided the backdrop during the shows. Thomas Campbell ... artist, filmmaker, photographer, skater, surfer, superpal and highly skilled doodler. Thomas has been a longtime friend of Brushfire and Jack and is the visionary behind the album cover images on both "In Between Dreams" and "Sleep Through the Static". Thomas has also released a few surf films including "The Seedling", "Sprout" (dvd/soundtrack available in the Brushfire Store) and coming soon, "The Present". Thomas can also be seen in the recent released "Beautifiul Losers" documentary. (photos by Janella Fox)
Dave Homcy ... photographer, cinematographer, surfer, chef extraordinaire, jack look-a-like and super good pal. Dave Homcy has been contributing his stunning images to the Brushfire and Woodshed world for years. He has shot photos of Jack, ALO, Zach Gill, Matt Costa and is regularly in the creative mix on many Brushfire Related projects and films. Just to name a few, he has worked on the films "Shelter", "A Brokedown Melody" (dvd/soundtrack available in the Brushfire online store), "Jack Johnson- Live in Japan" and recently "Sliding Liberia" . (photos by Emmett Malloy)
Giles Dunning ... photographer, cinematographer, fashion icon and all around funny guy (with really awesome hair). Giles has been one of the key players behind the camera on quite a few Brushfire artist video shoots (as well as many other Malloy Brother directed projects including a few White Stripes videos). He has worked on "Jack Johnson and friends- Live at the Greek" and an upcoming documentary called "180 Degrees South". (photo by Janella Fox)

Backstage with Green Rocker Jack Johnson
"It's not everyday you get unfettered backstage access to a rock concert but my assignment for Focus Earth wasn't to go backstage at an "everyday" anything. This is Jack Johnson, king of green rock and roll (though he is careful to point out that nothing about him is rock and roll, his music is of a different brand). It is evident from the moment he steps off his tour bus; no entourage, no mirrored sunglasses, no assistant with a clipboard running up to him to get approval on schedules. Jack just grooves off the bus in jeans and a t-shirt (and shoes he said he was only wearing because it was still wet out from the recent rains). He introduced himself to us with his trademark crooked, gracious smile and soft-spoken manner. No one unfamiliar with the man's music would EVER suspect him of being a platinum selling star." JACK JOHNSON - Limited Edition Tour Posters!
Jack is back in North America and just kicked off the final leg of his Sleep Through The Static Tour in Toronto over the weekend. We are so excited to announce that we will be offering a very special limited edition poster that will be available in the merch area for each of the US stops (with the exception of festivals, 15 posters total!).
For the project we have enlisted the help from some of our favorite artists and designers to provide unique designs for each show. The posters will be screenprinted on a quality 100% recycled stock and sold in numbered editions of 300. After each show we will be selling any leftover posters on our website so be sure to check back if you aren't able to pick one up at the show of your choice! A handful of the posters will be signed by the artist and sold here on our website. At the end of the tour we will be auctioning off a FULL SET of SIGNED posters (details to come soon).
This week's designs include 2 designs by Dave Lively and Jeff Motch (Aug 6, Manfield MA and Aug 7 Camden, NJ).
Check back weekly for updates on the artists to peep some more of the incredible designs that have been developed for this series.

Jack Tour, Zach Gill’s Stuff, Neil Halstead’s Oh! Mighty Engine ...

Well the Jack Johnson "Sleep Through The Static" tour has just returned home from Europe and even though massive storms were chasing them throughout the tour, the rain didn't dampen the spirits of everyone that turned out (except for everyone that tried to put on, or attend the Saturday gig in Newquay where Gale force winds forced a cancellation). In the end, the crazy weather helped make for some unforgettable shows. So now everyone will enjoy some downtime until they head back out to wrap up the summer with a tour of the States and a few Canadian shows for what looks to be the last live shows of 2008.
Jack will be bringing along a new set of openers on this leg. His friends and label-mates Rogue Wave are support for the whole tour. Neil Halstead will be out from 8/3 to 8/19 and The Culver City Dub Collective featuring Paula Fuga who will takeover duties from 8/20 on. Rogue Wave is supporting the release of Asleep at Heavens Gate.
Your encouraged to try and carpool to the shows, you can find other folks to share a ride with. If you click on the show detail page for your show at www.jackjohnsonmusic.com/tour you can find folks to carpool with.
Just look for the carpool symbol. Make sure your crew gets to the shows early so you guys can stop by the village green where you can get informed and educated on global and local environmental activities. Get your village green passport, take some environmental actions and you can enter to win a spot to watch Jack's performance FROM THE STAGE!
While visiting the village green you just might also catch an intimate live performance from Jack's supporting artists or maybe even Jack himself. You might see Zach Gill or Neil Halstead out there, both of whom will have records out on Brushfire on July 29th that were recorded at Jack's Solar Powered Plastic Plant.
Zach Gill's Stuff can be purchased on iTunes. The album features guest appearances by Steve Adams from ALO, Tristan Prettyman, Merlo and Adam. Jack even did his best Keith Moon impersonation sitting behind the kit for the albums first single "Family". For more info check out www.zachgill.com.
Neil Halstead's "Oh! Mighty Engine" can be purchased on iTunes. If you listen closely, you can hear the stellar work of Adam Topol, Merlo Podlewski and Zach Gill on a few tracks.Neil will be playing his own west coast dates in late August and you can find out more here: www.myspace.com/neilhalsteadofficial.
If you haven't got your tickets yet it's not too late for these shows. Hopefully we see you there:

Big Zach Gill Updates
Hey Friends-
Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on in Zach Gill's musical world this summer. First off Zach will be releasing his debut solo album July 29th entitled Zach Gill's Stuff on Brushfire Records. The album features special appearances from Jack Johnson and Tristan Prettyman. He also called on ALO band mate Steve Adams, as well as Adam and Merlo from Jack's band to lend their musical hands to the project. You can pre-order it now from Newbury Comics and receive an autographed cd booklet from Zach here.
You can also catch Zach on stage this summer as he will be manning the keys for Jack as they wrap up their world tour with a run through the states and a few shows in Canada. If you are lucky enough to make it to one of the shows, keep your eyes and ears peeled for a tall man tickling a beat up accordion early in the evenings. Rumor has it that Zach will be making special appearances in the village green rocking your socks off and hanging with the people.
Become a friend of Zach's on Facebook, MySpace and Imeem by visiting his profiles: Zach Gill's Facebook Zach Gill's MySpace Zach Gill's Imeem
Hopefully we see you there! Team Gill
