Blue
Category: Writing and Poetry

Just one night
    Let me linger
In the euphoria
    of you

Such a beautiful sight
    You bring here
You bring me down to my
    knees, it's true

Let me feel your light
    My fingers burn
To know the shades of you

Better Than Before...
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping

Just finished a new video with my partner James Van Alden.

This clip features Lesa Wallace modeling her own line of handbags, with photography by James Van Alden, who also directed the artistic layout.

Video was edited by Jay Ammon (that's me, in case you weren't aware...).

OMG You have to see this!
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

This is a commercial I worked on for the Heinz Ketchup Commercial Contest they have going on right now.

I did the final touches on the video timeline and I did the audio for it as well.

The commercial was directed by Alice Walker (the nice lady who you see in the commercial).

I think it's a winner, don't you? Pretty much all of the other entries I've seen for this contest suck ass.

Make sure to vote for the video on YouTube! I'll update with a link to the clip later on.

The Birds and the Bees...
Category: Pets and Animals

Alright... well maybe just the birds.

And no, this isn't going to be another one of those blogs... I just wanted to share a little addition to our household that we got here recently: a baby hummingbird that fell out of it's nest.  Here's a little clip of the bird; I'm feeding it sugar water in the later part of it.

We're probably going to let it back out into the wild in a few weeks or so, when it can take care of itself.  Ain't it cute?  I wish I could keep it, but it just wouldn't be right, I guess.

Well, that's about all for now... nothing else really new or exciting going on with me over here, so that's why I've been mostly quiet lately on my blogs here.  Until next time...

Dream Journal 05/10/07
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

A faceless male friend and I were walking around in a supermarket.  We were going through the aisles, searching for the perfect watermelon.  We came upon a thin slice that formed an O and had a good-looking pink color , and just a small bit of white color.  We decided that we had to go and look for the rest of this watermelon, since it looked so delicious.

We ended up walking over to the gourmet section of the supermarket, where they held the best foods, freshest fruits, expensive liquor, etc., and we found a couple of slices in a small fridge section, but these ones seemed under par and perhaps even a little rotted.  There was a half of a watermelon there, but it obviously didn't belong to this superior watermelon slice we had found.

So we went through the aisles and found the fruit section, where we saw great-looking slices of watermelon, as well as pineapples.  From what I recall, we grabbed a few slices, which resembled fish steaks, only larger.  I saw an image of Remy Martin XO somewhere around this time.

At this point, I saw two young men walking around in the gourmet section of the supermarket, where my friend and I were shopping around.  They looked like strange caricatures with wardrobes taken from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, only they were painted in silver and gold all over, their faces and skin included.

Somehow, we ended up walking to the checkout with these two men, apparently with the intent to help drive them somewhere.  As we were walking, I noticed that one of the men had a gun in a holster wrapped around his shoulder.  I told my friend that we had better be leaving, but he was concerned about how we had agreed to include these guys and help them out somehow.

We reach the checkout stand, and there are a couple of people ahead of us.  My friend is apparently still unaware of the gun and that whole situation.  I remain silent and observant.  The man with the gun asks me if I want to do a robbery with him, and I say no.

He then says, "I'm gonna do it on the count of five…"  He then counts down, five, four, three, two, one, and he pulls his gun out and demands that the cashier hand over all the money.  People begin screaming, and my friend and I start to run away.

I had a sense that I should try to stop the robbers, so I went to a corner of the supermarket, where they might have had impromptu weapons.  I found a long metal bar, like those used for cleaning pools, and I grabbed it, and ran back towards the direction I came from.

Meanwhile, the second robber had been following me on the opposite side of the cash registers, next to the front of the supermarket.  He saw that I was carrying the metal pole, and I suppose he wanted to take me out.  He fired two shots, missing me both times as I ducked around various objects like shopping carts and drink displays.

He turned around the corner to meet me where I was at, and I had no more cover to hide behind.  I was still ducking down, trying to get away, when he finally came in close enough to get an easy shot at me.

He was pointing the gun at me.  He was deciding whether or not he should fire.  I was crouched there, waiting to see my fate.  My mind was blank and I would have accepted any outcome.

Dream Journal 05/07/07

Dreamt that someone unknown and I were discussing computer issues in regards to my new as-needed gig as a computer tech guy.  The computer that belongs to the boss is having trouble; it crashes intermittently.  I took a look at the computer, trying to figure out what the exact problem was.  The boss had previously inserted a new hard drive into the computer, in place of the old one.  The unknown figure and I were discussing the issue, and we agreed that the obvious problem was the fact that the hard drive was replaced without the computer being notified and prepared for the change, which likely resulted in some sort of incompatibility in settings, drivers, system files, etc.  Solution unknown as of yet, but will likely involve manual editing of system files; definite solution would be to reload the operating system on the hard drive as well as any programs needed.

It's dreams like this that make a person realize how much of a geek they are.

Moving Forward…
Category: Life

I've come to the conclusion that I'm hanging on to certain things from the past that are stopping me from moving forward in other areas of my life.  And what's really a shame about it is that now, more than ever, it seems like the exact things that I want in my life are coming to me in droves.

So I've decided that I'm not going to let my past experiences dictate my outlook on life, my experiences with others, and how I carry myself.

I'm sure that anyone who is in a long-term relationship, or has been, can relate.  There's a process of growing together with another person that makes you somewhat intertwined with them, and then, when that's gone, there's a process of finding one's self again, independent from that once again.  Even though I tend to let the "past be the past," and just forget about things, though, there's always the tendency to fall back on experiences, whether they be long-gone, or more recent.

On the other hand, people never really get anywhere if they keep holding on to the past, so I've decided that I've had enough of this catharsis and it's time to move forward.  So that's where I'm at, people.

The LA Music Scene: Automatique/Automatico
Category: Parties and Nightlife

We drove up a few streets off of the 101 in downtown Los Angeles.  Here, hidden amongst the large industrial buildings, restaurants, movie lots, and abandoned buildings lies the home of many great party/music/bar scenes, past and present.

My first impression of Automatique/Automatico lead me to believe that it was some sort of hybrid between a loft party and a bar.  Actually, it basically was someone's loft in the middle of the industrial district.  A good sign, for any seasoned partier.

And, as such, there was nothing typical about this party.  At least, not in the general sense of the club/bar scene.  Or, perhaps I should say, nothing was typical about it for a guy like me who had never attended a gathering quite like this.  The general atmosphere inside was stuffy, and on more than one occasion I caught the scent of meth-addled bodies that had gone just a little bit too long without a shower.

The flyer advertised "latin alternative, Britpop, '60s, soul, post punk, indie, y mucho mas."  The music selection was very eclectic, although the DJs tended to somewhat leave something to desire, in terms of mixing skills.  The dance floor was definitely the highlight of the evening.  Beautiful people.  Not your typical glamorous Hollywood plastic-smile people.  The small and intimate space, combined with wanton sexuality of all sorts that was being applied liberally gave me a sense of the free and progressive lifestyle of these people, some of whom I knew and had gotten to know personally.

These people know how to throw a great party.  The thing that truly made it work for me was the fact that it wasn't bound by any of the bullshit rules and regulations of your typical nightclub get-togethers.  The party was still going strong, drinks were still being served, hours after most other nightclubs would have closed down for the night.

And besides, where else do you get to see chicks making out while they're sitting on a couch right next to you?

Missed Me?
Category: Religion and Philosophy

So, as some of you may have noticed, I've taken a little break from blogging over the past week.  The reasons for this are that I've just been generally busy and I haven't really had much on the mind to write about.  I still don't, really, but I've decided to keep you all posted just so you all know that I haven't gone and died or anything like that.

I was talking to someone the other day, and this person brought up the subject of friends crossing boundaries, and subsequent crushed egos and how to deal with the whole mess and what not.

At which point, I put on my "Dr. Jay" cap and tried to get all analytical and helpful, and I think that there was some good that came out of that, so I thought I'd share it with all of you.

The basic situation is this:  "Person A" gets hurt when "Friend B" says that they "couldn't believe that --- could actually have liked me."

This happens because:  "Person A" heard "She is so much better than you so that is why I ended up with you.  You were more on the level I saw myself on…"

Now, I've had to deal with similar things in the past, so I have some experience with it and I have my own little twist on how to deal with these things.  So, the following is the gist of what I said in my response.

There's no use in worrying about the past.  Everything happens for a reason.  It's hard to stick to it, but I personally live by that principle.

It goes back to my whole theory about guilt and shame.  It's all a matter of perspective.  We feel bad about things because we thing that other people will think bad of them, but in the end, it's entirely up to us whether or not we want to feel bad about it.

Sometimes in the process, your self-worth may get damaged, but that's dependent on what you build your self-worth on.  Is it based on how you feel about yourself, regardless of what other people think?  Or, do you base how you feel about yourself from what others think about you?

See, I think I'm just about the greatest thing in the world, even though, in reality, others may see me as a scumbag.  I don't really know how others see me, and I don't care.  I want to feel good about myself, so I do feel good about myself.
