My New Job

Im working again...*sigh*.  I was starting to really like traipsing around the city during the day while everyone else is at work.   Anyway...

I am now doing technology integration for RLS INC.  We do AV design for big companies...I dont know how to explain it just look at the website...www.rls.com.  I am an AutoCad designer/Project manager?

I really like the job and Im also currently taking a drafting class in the city at Berkeley extension....so I may love that and decide to be an architect someday!

Thanks to everyone who sent me ideas for jobs.

Discovery doesnt like me anymore...

So Im getting "let go" because Discovery doesnt want me as a character.  I am totally fine with this as I never really cared if I was on camera or not but it's going to be sad to leave all my friends!  It has been a really good experience and Im sure Im going to be around hanging out and building my own projects but this is the end of my stint on Mythbusters...

All I need from you guys is some ideas as to what I should do next.  Anyone know of any good engineering jobs in the san francisco area?  Let me know what you all think.

Cheers and thanks,
Jess

My first Marathon!
Current mood: Tired and sore
Category: Tired and sore Life

I started training for the san francisco half marathon in february of this year and I finally got to run it this morning!  It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life and now I am hooked.  I am going to do a 12K in september and possibly another half this winter.  Thirteen point one miles!!!  Eventually Ill do the full 26 but this was a good start.  I have been sleeping since I got home after having my celebratory mimosa at the finish line.

Although I am very proud of this accomplishment, the main reason I am writing this blog is because I still have a few days to try to raise money for my cause.  ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) is something that is close to my heart as a longtime friend and neighbor of my parents in Los Angeles died of this disease about 2 years ago now.

Our fundraising website is still up:
https://secure2.merchantcart.net/runsfm//TeamWebPage.cfm?tid=4394
I would really appreciate any money that you all have to donate and although I already ran the race it still means a lot.

Thanks,
Jess

My Job - Recopied

I recopied my old job blog because there was a bug in it....thanks to all of you who alerted me to the problem!

My Job
Current mood: hungry
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Many of you have asked what it is, exactly, that I do?  Well I will try and answer that since it is getting hard to answer all the emails I get about this very question.

My job is not exactly the same as the old mythtern, Christine.  Because we have a different skill set and were hired through a different route, we have different responsibilities.  I was hired on as an "on camera workshop assistant".  Basically, I do anything that Adam and Jamie need me to do.  If they have to go on location for an interview and there is just some little stuff that needs finishing or something that is important for the experiment to happen but is not necessarily camera worthy, I will get it done while the camera crew is out to keep the flow going.  Sometimes I also get a part of the project to figure out and solve on my own.  It is a really interesting job because the demands are constantly changing.

I am learning a ton from these guys.  While I have a degree in engineering and can sometimes help out with calculating something for an initial guess, Adam and Jamie are teaching me something new and useful every single day.  I am not only getting to put my school knowledge to work but actually getting a better understanding of what I learned through trial and error.

I get on camera when there is something that needs an unbiased judge (as in Old Dog New Tricks) or moderator.  I can be the in between for the two guys or help out one when the other is busy.  I am basically an extra hand.

I hope that gives you all a little bit of an idea as to what I do.  If you are still confused it is because my job changes week to week and the only constant is change...but that is the way I like it!

Cheers,
Jess

Ten Thousand Dollars!
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

So my senior project has been working on a new prototype for a laryngoscope...its a medical device used for intubation in emergency situations.  Basically, its pretty damn cool.  So my team has been doing a bang up job on getting our model together and working.  I have spent numerous hours in the machine shop building little venturi (compressed air driven suction device) pieces so that we could get our flowrate correct.  Anyway...thats not the point.  The point is that my teammates friend is into business and he entered our project into the UCSB Business Plan Competition and out of 20 teams we came out VICTORIOUS!!!! Ten Thousand Dollars and a bunch of newspaper articles later we are probably going to get a B in our design class because we are big on product not documentation and busy work....oh well... money speaks louder than  report cards.

Kanye West
Current mood: rejuvenated

So last night Alli, D, Sara and I went to UCLA and picked up Alli's friend Michelle (who is currently my hero for finding out about this event) and drove to the Avalon in LA where Kanye was performing a FREE show.  It was incredibly unorganized and we didnt know if we were going to get tickets but we did and not only did we get it, we stood front row CENTER!!  Approximately 3 inches away from Kanye (He touched my hand a couple of times) and special guests John Legend and Glc (Kanye's new protege).  It was so freaking awesome and I am sooo glad that I missed some sleep and decided to go.  Also present were Britney Spears and Kevin Federline, Tom Cruise and Paris Hilton (of course).  Now I cant stop listening to Kanyes new workout plan so I can snag me that sexy man the next time we meet.

Im sick
Current mood: sick

I hate my space, as I previously stated, because it is taking up too much of my damn time.  I have been on this thing for like an hour and a half and I feel like my head is going to explode.  All I really want to do is lie down and drink orange juice.  I am, however, listening to the new black eyed peas cd and it is freakin awesome.  Yay for not going to work tomorrow!
