The Andy Kaufman Award!!
Current mood: optimistic
Category: Life

Well, my dearest friends in the whole wide world --- I need your help.

I know, I know... I am Always asking for something.... BUT this time it's a really good thing....

Ziddio.Com is hold something called 'The Andy Kaufman Award" and I decided "what the heck, he is my hero and my muse so why not submit a clip....."

So, here's where you come in and where I could REALLY use your help!

Just go to www.Ziddio.com and then go to the Andy Kaufman Award contest, find my clip, take a gander at it and then rate it .... I know all you know my stuff pretty darn good and most likely you know the bit (I'm reading GE&H) so, technically, you don't even really have to watch it, just rate it......

Anyhows, I hope you will find time to give me a helping hand - and of course and friends you might be able to pass on this info to would be most loverly....

I also have some gigs coming up very soon which I will post on here and on my webpage shortly....

Hugs and kisses,

M E

p.s: when you are at the contest site - if Mary Van Oate has posted a clip rate her's too --- She was kind enough to alert me about this contest - And, she's funny TOO...

Current mood: productive
Category: Life

Ok folks, Circle some dates on the Cally-Linder .....

Some Up Coming dates - (and if I may say, Milpitas! my career is sky-rock-it-ing!!!!

So: here they are, and I really really really hope you can make it out to see at least one if not two or three of these shows...

OCT. 3rd - This Wednesday evening ... Rooster T. Feathers on loverly El Camino Real in Sunny Sunnyvale.  I am headling this wacky showcase of new talent, old talent and a few brand spankin' newbies that might be all that talented Yet..... It starts at 8pm and is hosted by Nathan Habib (a kid with a future, trust me) -- It really should be a blast of a show...

OCT 11th - Dave and Buster's at the Great Mall in the beautiful berg known as Milpitas..... I do not really know the exact adress, but stop anywhere in Milpitas and say "Great mall?" and you will be told where to go - no, seriously. I DO know that I am also headlining that gig - so, what's tp miss?

OCT 12th - Humphrey's on the Plaza in -- ANTIOCH ... I believe it's pretty much the same lineup as the night before - Me at the end (again) --- This is a new venue and so I hope we can get it pack and rockin' -- that said it is Antioch which means most of you are thinkin --- Where The Fu---???  Still, if you are free, care to use mapquest and want to come by that would be cracking! 8:pm

Next up: The Historic City Hall in Downtown Davis .. I guess you could say this show is for all the folks that couldn't make it out to Antioch and yet live somewhat close by.... OR for the hundreds and hundreds of students at UCD that LOve Jimmy.... This time I am featuring (the middle guy) for the amazing and hilarious headliner Dennis Quixloa (that is not his last name, but I can never remember how the heck to spell his last name.... I look it up and tell you again later... This is at 8:pm

I have three other gigs to give more full details on in my next blog - but I can hint at: Morgan Hill, Spuds and Mudds.

Can life get any better, I ask you?

Just a few new items...
Current mood: enthralled
Category: Life

Just a few up dates about some stuff --

Some upcoming performance dates have been posted in the MyGigs list thing...

I'll just quickly repeat them here: This Tuesday and Wednesday (Spet. 18 & 19) I will be headlining the 'All-Star" shows at The Punch Line in San Francisco. Andrew Donnelly, Kris Tinkle and Alwx Koll will also be on the bill and more than likely a special drop in set from a friend. The showtime is 8:00pm

Then Oct. 3 will you can catch me doing a "long-ish" set as I close out the showcase night down at Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale. Not really sure who else is on the bill BUT I do know it's being hosted by a really kool kat, a really cool Young cat, by the name Nathan Habib - So, if you are down in the south bay, please drop on by. Showtime: 8:00pm

I have four other gigs in Oct. But, I shall write about those shortly.

As far as the MySpace stuff goes - for the moment, as you can hear, I am musicless....... BUT, I do have a clip of one of my more well-worn stage bits - so, please feel free to take a gander at it.

I have mixed around my MySpace friends list a bit - and, firstly have 40 that show up as tops. Since I feel abit like I am 'turning over a new leaf' (as stated in my previous blog) I choose to put 40 people, or places, or things into my top list that really mean something special to me. So, if you are in the top 40 at the moment know that you hold some meaning in my life that goes just a wee bit farther than normal. IF you are not in that group however - I can tell you that it was that there waas only so much space... and you will be in there the next change around - I realize that might not be exactly the best solution, but at the moment it's the only on I got....

Okay, other than that - everything seems status quo........

Until later ---

Later...

Turning Over a New Leaf (at least where MySpace is concerned)
Current mood: confused
Category: Blogging

Hello hello HELL ooooo dear readers....

Long Time no Blog ...

And that in turn is what (in part) this new blog is about.....

you probably didn't noticed - or perhaps you did - that I kinda stopped blogging about some time ago - well, truth to tell, I kinda stopped MySpacing too...

And I really have nothing to blame it on except sheer laziness....

My Bad

Bad Me.

I remember starting this blogging thing back at the very very very beginning of the year . and stating at the time that I would blog once a day every day rain or shine, short or long - I would Blog something.....

Well, needless to say like almost everything one states they will do at the start of the year - I faultered.... And All MySpace activities ground to a halt.

So, today (actually, it night time now) I am making another statement....

I am starting to Blog again, starting to MySpace again (i.e: move around my top friends, change clips, send out bulletins, etc.) ---

BUT -

Not quite with the same promise of every day as I did before.

Now it'll be more .... what...??  More 'Laxed... More "in the mood" ... and above all - more about where and when you can catch me performing somewhere.....

I know full well that some of my dearest subscribers and readers maybe are thinking "What the F!" and I am fearing a bit that I might lose a few of you ....

But, for my own sense of ..... whatever ... This at least will be something. I still will keep all "in the know" about what is going on with me - you just wont have to wade through rather pointless blather to no purpose.....

So, there.... There it is. For what it's worth... my first new BLOG in a some time.

Hope you keep wanting to glance at whatever I put up ... I'll be posting a wee bit more stuff in a day or so ....

Night nite....

A LONG OVER-DUE blog
Current mood: nostalgic
Category: Blogging

I guess it's safe to say - I have lost.....

When I started Blogging in Jan. I made a "resolution" if you will to Blog every day -- about something. Anything.

But, it seems now five months has gone by and I have failed --- All is not really lost, but I must say, I still do feel just the smallest amount of guilt for not keeping to it.....

So, having come to terms with it I can say that I will continue to blog when I fell moved to do so and feel I really have something that needs sayin' --- this way I keep from just rambling and being nothing more than a bore.

ANYHOWS -

You will note I have a new clip up --- This is NOT of Jimmy doing stand-up - this is from a little musical I did two years ago called Hedwig and The Angry Inch (perhaps some of you saw it).

Showing a clip from it - much like this blog - is long over due. And, I am doing it for a few reasons.

1) It is pretty damn fun to watch (if I do say so myself)

2) This coming weekend is the start of Gay Pride Week

3) I'll be headlining at the IMPROV in San Jose this Wed. Eve. at 8:pm for Rachel Warner's fab show which includes am amazing band (always)

and

4) I like to scar people whenever and however possible......

So, with that in mind, I hope you enjoy the clip.... AND want to make sure you all know that without Keite Davis (as Itzak) and the Band - Jonathan Erman (Keyboards), Scott Healy (Drums), Ian Nansen (Guitar) and Erica Ann Watson (Bass) (And Sound Engineer: Barak Weinstein) - the show would not only have sucked, but would never have even been ....

ENJOY!

May 30th) to party with me and a few other way funny people....

SO -- here it is:  (said to the person at the box office window upon arrival to The Improv when buy the tix) "Jimmy has Cooties" or "Jimmy's got Koodies" (actually anything regarding Jimmy and Koodies will get you the very very special 2-4-1 deal) ---  (you can also say "Amir Sent Me" but what fun is that??)

I really really really really very very much hope - hope without boundries - that you will be able to make it.

I plan to do some of the same ol crap but mix in a few brand new things as well ... even some things you will never witness on a stage again.

Trust me - this is a big one....

(however, if you are stuck in SF or can't make it for what ever reason... then show up to the Holy City Zoo edition of IRON COMIC on Fri. June 1st. The line-up for this show is simply incredible!! It's at the Make-Out Room in the Mission.......)

GUNN at GUNN (and other b'nizz)
Current mood: jubilant
Category: Parties and Nightlife

Tonight there was a comedy show --- no, let me rephrase that:

AComedy Spectacular!!

There are and always will be ok comedy shows and good comedy shows, really good comedy shows and even great comedy shows -- BUT, a Comedy Spectacular is a pretty rare bird in the stand-up comedy world, and tonight's show was exactly that - a rare comedy spactacular.

Nathan Habib, a junior at Gunn High (yes, named after my Grandpa) put together a show that was pro pro pro all the way. A Great Line-Up, and a Great Crowd - which meant that there was no eatin' it - even though the audience was bite every crumb and morsel we tossed their way....

So, a gigantic thanks to "KID HABIB" and all the others: Grant Lyon, Arthur (I'm not sick am I?) Gaus, Reggie Steele and Michael Slack - for one heck'a fun time!

BUT -- there is alway s a wee little dark cloud inside every silver lining: something interesting came up and I thought I'd throw this out there to see what others think or find interesting here: In my act I use the word "Fuck" exactly twice. As this was to be a clean show I asked to see if saying the word fuck would be a prob. If it was I would have removed the word from the two bits, however I was told it would be fine.... BUT, it did get me thinking about the use of a swear word in a bit.

What I tend to find is that although these certain bits work fine without the swear word - with the swear word put in (we are talkin' the F word here) really does punch up the bit to a higher level and becomes funnier -- what I find interesting is that it really is just a well placed word that does to wonders for the two bits....

so, the question I have for others is -- comedians or others -- do you find certain  bits and gags and your acts that have the same responsive action?

as far as anything else: I am really really really hoping you all will find time Wed eve to come on out to the San Jose Improv for what promises to be another great night of laughs and giggles.....

Email me and let me know you can come and I will send you the terribly secret code to get a 2-4-1 addmission for the show....  How cool, I have to ask, how cool is that???

GIGS! Gigs.... Gigs.... gigs.
Current mood: busy
Category: Parties and Nightlife

I am a busy little beaver --- That I can tell you ....  Boy oh boy oh boy am I BUSY!

And!

you can be part of the FUN!

Here is some up coming gigs and -- just for my Blog Readers a very special bonus .....

This Sat. Eve I will be Headlining an amzaing show at a High School....  A High School!

But, get this -- it's the High School that was named after my Grandpa (no shitting you) --- That's right Lay-dees and Jentz -- I will be at Gunn High School in Palo Alto for a show titled (I LOVE this title:) THE HIGH SCHOOL COMEDY SHOW ! (who knows, Disney might make a musical out of it)

Anyway, the line up for this gig features what I consider to be some of the very finest on the Bay Area Comedy Scene. I can say without pause that each of these comics are some of my faves.

Here's the sad part, the show only has a limited number of tickets left - so if you want to go - get there early. It's at 8pm  (if it sells out a wait-list will be started to fill any unused seats)

OH, and if you are wondering just what the line-up is for that show - look at my TopFriends this week - it's the first five guys -- Kellen is also there but only because I am hoping he will show up and do a surprise guest set.

You will also take note that my other TopFriends this week are the Improv Comedy Clubs --- Actually just one in particular - the San Jose Improv (and Justin McClure) because -- That's right, you guessed it --- That is where I will be headlining a show next Wed. Night at 8:00pm -- that would be Wed. May 30th, for those really needing to know.

This show is Justin's own monthly laffapalooza if you please -- and the line-up (although I am not sure who else will be there) is always stellar.

SOOooooooo --- here's the deal -- the "BONUS" if you like:

If you are thinking of going to the Improv in San Jose at 8:00pm on May 30 and you Email me and tell me you are planning on attending - I will Email you back a very special and very very very secret code that will get you and a friend (or Parent)(the kiddies LOVE me, I know) for the price of one ... That's a TWOFUR deal -- and, hell yes, it's nice of the Improv to do this

So, Email me and let me know (and please don't BS me - if you say you're gonna show I only ask that ya don't Let Me Down) and I'll let you know.

I will also be at the Improv again in the VERY near future But - that will be announced at the start of June.........

OK, that's it........ I really really hope to see you at one of these -- True the Gunn Show will probably be packed, but it'd sure be dandy to have a big crowd at the Improv too -- so, check you datebooks and pencil it in.....

Thanks bunches, as always XOXO

LAST 2 WEEKS - missing - in action: part 1
Current mood: rejuvenated
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

where the hell have I been??!!

short answer: no where.

Long answer:

The San Francisco International Film Festival - which ran from April 26 - May 10. and was the 50th (so, kind of a big deal)

Here is the first half of the rundown of what went on, what I saw, and what i thought.

There will be no name dropping here as to who I met, who I ate with, or what I did with those people --- I find that the fest really is a place to network and shmooze, but not out of the circle (as it were).

This will be a talk about films - pure and simple.....

Opening Night's film was GOLDEN DOOR an Italian film starring Charlotte Gainsbourg. I was unable to make it to Opening Night so sadly was forced to see this on my wee computer screen. I did hear a few quibbles about this film, but I have to say it was one of the more pefect opening night films for this fest in many many years. An epic film without question, it had the flavor and feel of some of (if not all of) the great Italian cinema of the 60's and 70's. It is a beautiful film and was a very wise choice to open the 50th.

REPRISE, a flick from Norway, was very good - though a bit pretentious as films about young writers made by young film makers tend to be. Still, a competent career start from a former self-described "skate-punk".

HEAVEN'S DOORS is a strange melodramatic film that was overly long with some embarrassingly bad dialogue (the film maker, a young man from Spain and of Moroccan desent told the audience at the start of the film that his English was not very good - he should have thought about that when writting a full one third of the film in English) -- the editing was very much like that of recent films like "Babel" and "City Of Gold" but here it was just confusing. Simply put, some might really like it, but for me it just didn't hold together.

BLACK SHEEP - This is without question the BEST Were-Sheep movie EVER! (actually I believe it to be the only were-sheep movie to ever be made) and, wow, what a treat! First, I should say that it is a film from New Zealand, a place where sheep outnumber the human population by something like 10 to 1, so that along makes this the best comedy/ horror film to be made since American WereWolf in London. BUT, better still the SFX were done by Peter Jackson's team at WETA - and they are too damn fun! well executed but with all the cheesi-ness you expect from a low budget flick like this. If you love Sheep, and you know you do - put this film on your must see list when it comes out.

CECIL B. DE MILLE, AMERICAN EPIC. This made for TV Doc about the great showman/director was actually made and shown on TV back in 2003, but was being shown here because the festival was honoring the preservationist Kevin Brownlow. As TV bio-docs go this was pretty good, but started to wear this during it's second part.

UP, UP AND AWAY - a collection of eight films for children and families. Most of these films were up for a Golden Gate Award for which I was part of the jury. Of these films the ones I really loved were KNUFFLE BUNNY, a Weston Woods film (they make films based on current childrens's lit.), THE FAN AND THE FLOWER (the well-deserved winner of the GGA for children and family shorts) and - my personal fave - FIRST FLIGHT, a new short from the Dreamworks animation department which sadly decided to send the film to us BUT, did not want it in competition, so no award (silly Dreamworks people). The others that were up for a GGA were very good and well recieved. They were FLIGHT OF THE MERGANSERS (live action baby duck diving), DORME (strange film about dreams), and RICOCHET (a short from France about race and marbles). Two others that were not in competition were PETER PAN HAS GROWN UP AND JOHN LENNON IS DEAD (a kinda interesting little film that works less well upon a second viewing) and I WANT TO BE A PILOT (this film for reasons I cannot explain was put in this program even though in my opinion it was (although very moving) far too strong for the age group we are normaly shooting for in this category)

DARRAT, a film from Chad, was my third favorite film of the fest. A story about trust and revenge for those we trust this was an almost silent film that once you know the conditions under which the director and actors had to work is pretty F'ing incredible.

OPERA JAWA is a strange and beautiful film that is part opera and part something else that I can't quite place. Wonderful imagry mixed with soothing music I have to admit relaxed me sometimes to the point of slumber - but it was in no way because the film was slow or dull, just really - relaxing....

OK, this was Part One. There will be two other parts coming in the next few days. I hope you enjoy reading about these films and that some might even peek your interest enough to seek them out when (and if) they open in a theater near you Or come out on DVD.

Whatever the case, it's nice to be back typing again..........
