It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

As the Executive Producer of Fresh Faces2u, one of my primary missions is to expose new talent to the entertainment industry. This is why a majority of my readers, subscribers, and friends are involved in the entertainment industry.

I'm a strong advocate of traditional education, such as a degree from a top rated college, but I realize that college is not for everyone. Therefore as a technologist, I'm always promoting the advantages of the Internet, as a tool for personal empowerment and expanding opportunities.

So for those that can't partake of a formal education, the Internet provides a wealth of information, programs, and possibilities for you take advantage of. All you have to do is look...

Below is just a small example of the jewels of knowledge that exist in this treasure chest of information, we call the Internet.

Entertainment Industry, Diversity Programs And Fellowships,

Cosby Writing Fellowship:
http://www.CosbyProgram.com

Established by Drs. Bill and Camille Cosby in 1993, at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The fifteen-week intensive workshop was designed with a two-fold purpose: To assist writers in the completion of a film or television script and to deepen the participants appreciation for and comprehension of African American history and culture.

Disney Writing Fellowship
http://abctalentdevelopment.com/programs_writers.htm

Begun in 1990 in partnership with the Writers Guild of America, west, this has become one of the industry's best known and most respected writing fellowships. Fellows receive a weekly salary for a one-year period (currently amounting to $50,000/year plus benefits). The program is an intensive, hands-on experience that involves workshops, seminars and mentorships with creative executives from ABC, ABC Television Studio, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Lifetime and Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group.

Fox Diversity Program
http://www.fox.com/diversity/creative/writer_submission.htm

The Fox Entertainment Group again invite submission of original television pilot scripts in the multi-camera comedy, single-camera comedy, animated and drama formats. Writers selected this year will be invited to attend a six week session at Writer's Boot Camp and subsequent consultation with WBC mentors during which their scripts will be rewritten and improved. The goal is to achieve scripts at a level of professional execution that may be submitted to Fox programming executives.

CBS Television Program
http://www.cbscorporation.com/diversity/cbs_network/institute/index.php

This program links aspiring writers with mentors from the ranks of CBS Network and CBS Paramount Studio executives. Also, writers are mentored by producer mentors from series airing on CBS. Additionally, there are weekly sessions with successful writers, producers and show runners examining in very specific and practical terms many aspects of the experience of being a television writer in Hollywood.

the Nickelodeon Writers' Program
http://www.nickwriting.com/

Developed to broaden Nickelodeon's outreach efforts, the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship is designed to attract, develop and staff writers with diverse backgrounds and experiences on Nickelodeon Network productions. Operating in a three-phased structure, the Fellowship provides a salaried position for up to one year and offers hands-on experience writing spec scripts and pitching story ideas in both live action and animation television.

Warner Brothers Comedy and Drama Writing Program
http://www2.warnerbros.com/writersworkshop/

For over 30 years, Warner Bros. TV has committed to fostering new talent and providing opportunity for aspiring television writers. The Writers Workshop is the premier writing program for new writers looking to start and further their writing career. The Workshop teaches every aspect of spec script writing and features exposure to Warner Bros. TV's top television writers and executives, all with the goal of staffing graduates on a Warner Bros. TV show.

NBC Diversity Initiative for Writers
http://www.nbcunicareers.com/entry_leadership/diversity_initiative_for_writers/

NBC is proud of the existing diversity of the writers who pen its Primetime Series. In order to further encourage diversity among our writers, NBC provides funding for a minority staff writer position for all scripted NBC Primetime Series. These positions are filled with writers selected and hired by the showrunner/producers of each show, with the guidance of the network and studio(s). Scripts are accepted year-round for screening, however, positions are generally filled during the March - June staffing season.

**Editors Note**
(The WGA site below is one of the best list of online resources I know)

The Writers Guild of America
http://www.wga.org/subpage_writersresources.aspx?id=1042

The WGAW's Diversity department works with producers, studio and network executives, and writers to increase employment opportunities and to develop access/talent development programs and also hosts events, panels, and seminars to promote a more positive image of historically underemployed writers, to increase the industry's awareness of the unique obstacles often faced by these writers, and to encourage positive change in hiring practices.

10 Email Marketing Tips From Arlena The ePublicist
Category: Web, HTML, Tech

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

As a Digital Drummer, I'm always looking for something good to put on this virtual drum line...smile

Arlena Richardson, is a relatively new friend, I met on We Are Creative People (see www.wacptv.ning.com) I've watched this sister selfishly put out positive, proactive and empowering information for the last year.

She exemplifies what social networking is all about; sharing, supporting, and encouraging those of us in the Black online Diaspora. The sister has her act together and is quickly becoming a recognized name on the Net.

Seeing her background as an established sports publicist and Dot.com entrepreneur, her rise in popularity is understandable (see http://www.arlena.com/arlena_richardson.htm) Arlena is doing big things and deserves our acknowledgement and support.

Please take the time to send Arlena Richardson an email (arlenapr@sbcglobal.net) and/or public comment, thanking her for all her time and efforts to make the Net a better and more vibrant place for Blacks online.

Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... To Share The Dollars!!!

"Top Ten Tips For Email Marketing"
Republished From http://www.arlena.com/

1. You need to get your email opened and read, how do you help your cause? Through the subject line! But remember, email readers cut off the subject line if it's too long so get your message across with a few short words.

2. "From Label" faux pas - make sure that your email comes "from" whomever your recipients have established a relationship with. If they see that it's coming from someone with whom they aren't familiar, you're likely to see an increase in your unsubscribe rate and possibly receive some SPAM complaints.

3. Personalization is key! It's a great way to get your message read and Vertical Response can help you set it up easily. Catch your recipient's attention using it in the subject line, in the introduction or even the in closing of your email. Personalization is a powerful way to bring you closer to your recipient.

4. Identify with your recipients in the first paragraph "You told us you wanted to receive information on [Product X] so we're sending you this information today!" Help them remember the connection you've had with them from previous correspondence. Sparking the memory of your recipient can also help to lower your unsubscribe rate.

5. Pictures, pictures, pictures. We see up to 10 times the response rate for emails using pictures vs. those with only text. Vertical Response has the tools to help you easily upload your images so why not give yourself the advantage. Just make sure the images aren't too large (i.e. file size) as it will take longer to load for your dial-up recipients. Don't run the risk of losing a potential customer because they got frustrated waiting for your images to load.

6. Got a product? Make your offer up front and provide only the most pertinent information (i.e. price, model , availability) in the email. Don't waste your customer's time by making them search for these details as this can have a negative effect on your sales. As long as you also provide them with a link to get more information about your offer they should have everything they need.

7. Create urgency with your offers. Apply expiration dates and enforce them. This can jump start your recipients behavior if they feel like a delay on their part will result in a missed opportunity.

8. Keep it short and sweet. If you send a monthly email and have a lot to say, try to convey your message in a concise manner. Get your message across with a few sentences and then include a link where they can get more information. You might think about switching your monthly email to a bi-weekly one to prevent your newsletters from being too long.

9. When you mail can be as important as what you mail. Keep in mind that certain times of the year people will be focusing more of their attention on get-togethers with friends and family than to their email inboxes. Schedule your mailings accordingly for the holiday seasons (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, 4th of July) to ensure that your messages are not left unread for longer than you expected. This is especially important for any time-sensitive offers or announcements contained within your email.

10. For success in the future you'll want to consult the past! Study campaign performance to learn from your achievements (and your mistakes!) by monitoring your clicks and open rate. Test, Test, Test: try different offers with your lists and compare the results. See which days of the week and especially subject lines garner the best response

Jim Neusom on WJOL radio - Marilyn’s Cafe Society
Category: MySpace

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

Let me take the time to invite all my friends and supporters to join me on Marilyn's Cafe Society this afternoon at 1:20 p.m. (CDT)/11:20 (PST) on WJOL 1340 AM radio.

Marilyn's Cafe Society (www.marilynscafesociety.com) radio show is in its fourth year of broadcasting in the Chicago area and is in its first year streaming live via the internet at www.wjol.com. It's a weekly 2 hour radio talk show that airs Saturdays from 12:05 p.m. (noon) to 2 p.m. (CDT).

The topic this afternoon will be on How To Read eMail Headers. How many times have you received an email from yourself...that you didn't send! We will be discussing how to protect yourself from Spoofing and Phishing scams.

The email header is the information that travels with every email, containing details about the sender, route and receiver. It is like a flight ticket: it can tell you who booked it (who sent the email), the departure information (when the email was sent), the route (from where it was sent and how did it arrive to you) and arrival details (who is the receiver and when it was received).

Marilyn May has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of communications and is a dynamic and entertaining radio host. After speaking with Marilyn last night, let me assure you that this is going to be a fun filled and enlightening interview.

Marilyn has been hosting Marilyn's Cafe Society since the spring of 2005 and is very grounded in the issues and concerns of the South side Chicago community. I first met Marilyn in a Yahoogroup I moderate, Black Filmmakers and Crew (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/blackfilmmakersandcrew/). She is good people and very down to earth.

Join us this afternoon and make sure you call in or email, to show your support for Black radio. Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... To Share The Dollars!!!

How To Read e-Mail Headers
Category: Web, HTML, Tech

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

Spam is a consistent problem in our online world. Now personally, I believe everyone has a right to tell you about their business/products/service. It is called free speech or in this case "Business Speech", and protected by Constitutional law. But that does not change the fact the Unsolicited Commercial E-mail or UCE is more then just an inconvenience (like traditional junk mail), it is a serious problem, that slows productivity, wastes bandwidth and infuriates us all.

There is nothing worse then receiving an email from yourself, that you know is pure SPAM. Many of us wonder how many of our friends and business associates were fooled into opening a UCE or virus, simply because they recognized our name or email address. So the question becomes, how do you recognize a real email message, from one that has spoofed (forged) your name, your banks name, or another trusted source? This can be done by simply reading the email header.

I know, E-mail headers, as a topic is not as exciting as the latest get rich quick scheme, Kobe scoring 40 points, or the latest "Black folk need to get their act together" group thread. But learning how to quickly determine the authenticity of e-mail is important—especially if someone is abusing your network, or your name/email address. Spammers have gotten so good that there's nothing that can stop them from manipulating e-mail headers, and they're generally not verifiable unless you understand how to read them. When you receive a letter by snail mail, it has a postmark. If e-mails followed the same logic, you'd be able to see where the message originated before you opened it.

As when you would book a flight ticket with a false identity, the same goes for emails: the sender can partially fake these details, pretending that the email was sent from a different account (common practice for spammers or viruses).

Regardless of your operating platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) or application software (Outlook, Eudora, Netscape or Mutt), all can display message headers with a simply click of the mouse. How you view the headers (before opening or while viewing) depends on the program that you use.

In Outlook: Select: View->Options
In Eudora: Click the Blah Blah Blah button.
In Netscape: Select: View->Headers->All
In Pine: Type H. (Requires the enable-full-header-cmd feature.)
In WebMail: Click View Full Headers.

Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2006 11:34:52 GMT
From: "Prendawen" collegebabe@aol.com
Subject: Hey buddie! What's going on?

RECEIVED: HEADERS

The Received: headers of any email message will tell you where the message originated and what route it took to get to you. That's What You Need To Nnow To Complain About And Report SPAM.

You read Received: headers in reverse order. The sequence from the last Received: header in the message's headers -- that is, the one furthest down in the headers -- to the first Received: header -- the one at the top -- should take you from the email server where the message originated, to a local incoming email server, and finally, to your inbox.

In this case, the last "Received" header tells the real story of this poor forgery, but you have to examine several of these to truly understand the details. This particular e-mail is identifiable because
it doesn't make any sense for a person with an AOL account to use one of Yahoo's e-mail servers to relay e-mail through a server in the .kr top-level domain, which is Korea.

Furthermore, a DNS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System) lookup failed to find smtp0422.mail.yahoo.com, so this IP address doesn't exist. Even if it did, the IP address
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address) 80.237.200.67 belongs to a network in Germany, which I discovered by checking the online American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) <http://www.arin.net/> database. So don't waste your time sending a nasty reply, because chances are that collegebabe@aol.com didn't have anything to do with it.

Since forgeries are becoming more difficult to identify, gain experience examining e-mail headers so you can differentiate the good from the bad. This knowledge will help you report junk e-mails to ISPs or reporting agencies such as Spamcop.net that track junk e-mailers.

Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... To Share The Dollars!!!

Web 2.0 and Mentoring
Category: Web, HTML, Tech

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

I receive hundreds of emails daily, and believe me when I say...I read them all! I may not always reply, but truly I love hearing from my friends and supporters.

Jessye Bemley, a student at North Carolina A&T State University, sent me an email that I thought many of you working in the community, and trying to build grass-roots networks might appreciate.

Jessye asked...How can Web 2.0 technologies be used for mentoring?

First for discussion sake, let's define Web 2.0. For those that are not up on the latest tech jargon, Web 2.0 is essentially the combination of Rich Media applications across mutable web platforms.

Let me explain, social networks such as MySpace or FaceBook is not new. What's new, is how simply they integrate Rich Media such as pictures, videos, music, and widgets (think slide shows) into an online presentation based primarily on social interaction.

The end result of any individual profile, is to enhance personal creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users/friends. Mentally compare a personal website of the 90's with even the most basic social networking profile today....and you have Web 2.0

Secondly, a Mentor is defined by Webster's dictionary as a trusted counselor or guide. In general mentors provide their expertise to less experienced individuals in order to help them advance their careers, enhance their education, and build their networks.

Now the most overused term in social networking (Web 20) is "Friend". When you find a friend that is willing to help you with your goals (be they business, education or whatever), you have found a "Mentor".

So functionally speaking How can Web 2.0 technologies be used for mentoring? Let's take the BDPA's (www.bdpa.org) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) youth program for example.

******************************************************

The BDPA as one of the nation's largest and oldest Black professional tech organizations. With tens of thousands of members, in chapters located in every urban center, they maintain a major online presence. So how does the BDPA use Web 2.0 technology?

1...Contacts/Introductions

The BDPA provides mutable sites where students and potential mentors can meet and connect. For example run a search in Yahoogroups, Facebook, LinkedIn or any other site and you will find the BDPA. Within these sites, students can search out others with similar interest and objectives, who might be willing to help them with their STEM project.

2...Personal Interaction

At every step of the STEM program, the BDPA provides on and off line volunteers to guide students through the process. These students are able to speak directly to these volunteers and team members (think Friend) utilizing Web 2.0 tools such as chats, forums, IM's, and yes even land line phones.

They can use Web 2.0 tools like, bulletins and graphics to keep their team updated and motivated. Social networking sites create a primary location for team information to be shared and commented on.

3...Resources

Mentors and STEM alumni have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Utilizing bulletins boards, forums, and Blogs, members have access to links, white papers, templates, and info specifically targeted to their STEM project.

This info never goes away. You can look back through years of discussions and advice on STEM subjects given by experts in their field. More in likely, your questions has been asked before...and someone posted a answer.

4...Promotion and team building

Mentorship, like Web 2.0 is not a linier or static concept. Mentorship is a personal, every changing life experience. As such, there will be many off line contacts and events that can be promoted and celebrated within the social networking site.

Success breads success. Through videos, and webcasts STEM members can highlight their accomplishments and tell the world their story. Many curious visitors will read their profile and be motivated to join or help.

5...Mentorship

Now even though in this discussion I use the term "Friend" lightly, never forget that being a Mentor is serious business. It is not a relationship to be entered into by just clicking a mouse.

Being a mentor is not for the faint of heart. The responsibility requires knowledge, solid communication skills, and a great deal of patience. At the same time, being a mentor can be extremely rewarding, as there is a great deal of satisfaction in watching your former charges grow.

Before choosing a Mentor, do your homework. Make sure they are not just text on a screen. You can normally determine this by watching their interactions with others, reading their posts and opinions, and using common sense. Mentorship is ideally a long term and personal relationship.

FaceBook Developers Fund - $25k to $250k Free Grants
Category: Web, HTML, Tech

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

As a Digital Drummer, I pass messages of interest and concern from one website to another....like the drummers of old Africa. I picked up on the story below from the BDPA (www.bdpa.org) social networking group on CollectiveX (see http://bdpa.collectivex.com/)

I like to write articles/posts on the opportunities created by, and barriers broken by the advent of technology (see http://www.blackwebportal.com/wire/AuthorContent.cfm?PartnerID=57). Social Networking is a new online phenomenon that is doing exactly that.

Most everybody has a social network profile somewhere in cyberspace (Facebook, MySpace, BlackPlanet). As I've written the past, some think social networking is...for kids, dating, or just a plain old time trap. But the truth is people are making real money.

Entrepreneurs and software developers are creating thousands of applications and widgets every day. If you read my Blog on "Opportunities Available For Black Developers" you read about a 17 year old girl that took $10 and turned it into $70,000 a month by creating free web page profiles on MySpace.

As I've often said, the time of excuses is past (victim theology). We have no one but ourselves to blame, for the current state of Black content online. The Internet is full of free software and content development tools. All we have to do is use them, and promote the end product amongst ourselves.

Blacks are the originators of American pop culture. Now is the time for us to stop accepting the crumbs off the table and begin to enjoy the full fruits of our labor from this cornucopia of opportunity we call the Internet.

Along those lines, I strongly recommend that if you're into social networking, you begin to look at developing applications and widgets that reflect your culture, interests, and creativity. FaceBook (like other Dot.com entities) is offering you a helping hand. The FaceBook Developers Fund is a great way to generate start-up money to fund your dreams.

Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... To Share The Dollars!!!

Five Myths About Social Networking
Category: MySpace

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At Bottom Of Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again (smile)

As and online professional I maintain a major presence on most social networking sites such as Myspace, FaceBook and BlackPlanet. Through these online communities, I've found thousands and thousands of "Friends".

Now don't get it twisted. I do not collect friends like baseball cards. I have read each, and every persons profile, in my Friend list. I personally approved their Friend request because, I believe they have something special to offer the Black online Diaspora.

If you search my Friend list, you will find everything you need to create, market, and sell, Rich Media and digital content in the new millennium; writers, Directors, Producers, Actors, Photographers, Models, Dancers, Musicians, Promoters, Distributors, Web Masters, Software Developers, Marketeers, etc...Yes, even Lawyers, Doctors, and Indian Chiefs (think CEO) (smile)

If you're a regular reader of my online journal/Blog (http://blog.myspace.com/jimneusom), then you know I joined these networks with a purpose (see Myspace From A Social Activist Point Of View http://www.blackwebportal.com/wire/DA.cfm?ArticleID=2642). I hope all my new friends, are enjoying this online publication.

I post articles, and stories such as the one below, in order, to educate, empower, and stimulate discussions, on issues of importance to our culture.

Why do you watch TV? .... Because of what's on it!!! I believe that only when we begin to create and distribute content About US, From US, and For Us, will we ever begin to bridge that mythical Digital Divide.

The reception I've received here in social networks has simply validated my efforts and personal views. Business is about Relationships! I often say; My net worth is directly relative to my Network.

I have found social networks to be an ideal platform to network and make new relationships. In that regards, below is some good advice on social networking

Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)... To Share The Dollars!!!

Peace and Gods Blessings,

Jim Neusom

Five Myths About Social Networking

Myth 1: It's All About You.

Successful networking is a two-way street. It's NOT all about you. In order to build a friendship/relationship there must be common ground. Most online profiles reveal the basics about a person (who, what and where)

One of your first messages to a new friend should reflect what you've read about them online. Let them know you're interested in them, their field of endeavor, or lifestyle (music, books, sports, etc)

Myth 2: It's A Popularity Contest.

Quality trumps quantity in human relationships, every time. You don't want a hundred messages a day about things you don't care about. You want to receive info on things that interest you. If you're meeting people for business or social reasons, your friend list should reflect your interests.

I can generally judge what a person is into, by the type of friends they have. So if you're into music, your friends should reflect this. Relatively, if you're about business, one would expect your friend list to be full of entrepreneurs....birds of a feather, flock together

Myth 3: It's A Quick Hit.

Friends call friends...friends visit friends. If you're not receiving an email or comment from a friend at least once a month, then they're just a name in cyberspace...not a real friend

The most you can hope for at an initial online meeting is to make a contact that (with care and time) could blossom into a fruitful relationship. Be diligent about following up and staying in contact with your online friends.

Myth 4: It's hard work.

It may be that you're working too hard. Friendships happen naturally. If you introduce yourself to people, stay in touch with people you've met, and think, in every interaction, "How could I help this person?"...you'll have an enjoyable and productive online relationship.

You're surfing the Internet anyway...why not pass along information or events that you think your friends might be interested in; for example there's a sale on at Target, I read about a job opening on Monster, have you seen the latest Obama ad....

Myth 5: It's A Waste Of Time.

Your time will surely be wasted if you approach each interaction as an opportunity hawk your wares, push your cause, or sign someone up. Conversely if every time you read a message it's about information you can use...your time will be well spent.

Knowledge is power. If you pick your friends with commonality and good sense, your online experience will be invaluable. Like in the real world, they will be there for you through the good times and the bad.

Always remember that the same rules apply in the virtual world that applies to the real world. If you want friends...then you must show yourself to be friendly!

The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

Last year I had the pleasure of attending the Los Angeles awards ceremony for the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) business plan competition at USC.

As an advocate for youth, I can not tell you how impressed I was with the NFTE program. First, here was a positive after school and summer program that teaches entrepreneurial principles such as planning, marketing, and negotiation.

College is a good thing, but everybody is not cut out for college. NFTE teaches students skills that they can apply at every stage of life or in any vocation. Skills that will enable them to be self-sufficient, and productive, members of our community.

Second, beyond book learning, the NFTE exposes students to real-life business with field trips, business mentors, and selling events, where the students put into practice the concepts they've learned in class.

The culmination of the NFTE program, is it's nationally recognized Business Plan competition. Local and regional competitions send NFTE winners to New York where they compete for grants, scholarships, and national recognition.

The bottom line is at the end of the local NFTE program, these students have an actual small business, and/or workable business plan, plus a memorable life experience.

Founded in 1987, the NFTE has established strategic alliances with major corporations such as Microsoft and Goldman Sachs. The NFTE is also backed by most major business schools such as Stanford and USC.

NFTE's programs teach entrepreneurship using its exciting, experiential curriculum. There are versions for middle school, high school, and young adult students, with corresponding reading levels and complexity.

The NFTE conducts programs on topics that include return on investment, supply and demand, opportunity recognition, competition, skills for success, cost and benefit analysis, sales and marketing, ethics, and taxes.

The curriculum may be used in a semester-long or year-long entrepreneurship course, integrated into an existing course, or used for an after-school program or intensive camp. The programs are offered in a variety of settings, including public schools, after-school programs at community-based organizations, and intensive summer business camps.

If you work with youth, I recommend that you contact the NFTE (see http://www.nfte.com), and look at how you can incorporate their unique entrepreneurship program into your community.

The Independent Television Service

The Independent Television Service (ITVS) brings to local, national and international audiences high-quality, content-rich programs created by a diverse body of independent producers. ITVS programs take creative risks, explore complex issues, and express points of view seldom seen on commercial or public television. ITVS programming reflects voices and visions of underrepresented communities and addresses the needs of underserved audiences, particularly minorities and children.

ITVS Funding Opportunities
http://www.itvs.org/producers/funding.html?gclid=CNK738GFrpQCFSUaagodZiP3tg

ITVS funds, distributes and promotes new programs primarily for public television. We work with independent producers to create and present programs that take creative risks, advance issues and represent points of view not usually seen on public or commercial television. ITVS is committed to programming that addresses the needs of underserved and underrepresented audiences. We look for programs that bring new audiences to public television and that expand civic participation by bringing diverse voices into the public sphere.

OPEN CALL
Deadline: July 18, 2008

Open Call provides finishing funds for single non-fiction or Animation public television programs on any subject, and from any viewpoint. Projects must have begun production as evidenced by a work-in-progress video.

DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT FUND

The Diversity Development Fund seeks talented minority producers to develop projects for public television. We want to support minority artists to tell their stories and reach audiences often overlooked by conventional programming. Projects must be in the research or development phase, and cannot have begun production.

INTERNATIONAL CALL

The ITVS International Call enables independent producers from outside of the United States to create documentaries for U.S. television. Through the International Call, storytellers from other countries introduce U.S. audiences to their global neighbors, opening a window into unfamiliar lives, experiences and perspectives.

LINCS

Linking Independents and Co-producing Stations (LINCS) provides matching funds (up to $100,000) to partnerships between public television stations and independent producers. To apply for LINCS funds, independents must first approach a public television station and establish a partnership. Single documentaries and innovative genre combinations will be considered. Projects must have begun production as evidenced by a work-in-progress tape.

COMMISSIONED R&D/PRODUCTION FUNDING

ITVS accepts proposals on an ongoing basis for projects in all genres that fall outside of the parameters of the standing initiatives (DDF, LINCS, OPEN CALL).

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

R&D funds may be requested for early phase activities. Examples of requests include travel, research, script development or the production of a fundraising reel.

PRODUCTION

Production funds are available for limited documentary series. Single or one-off programs are not eligible. Producers should apply to Open Call, LINCS or International Call for production funds for single programs.

To be considered for research and development or limited series funding, producers must meet ITVS's definition of an independent producer, and should submit the following:

Cover letter, stating type of funding (R&D or Production) and amount requested of ITVS;
Two-page proposal, including brief synopsis, program description, current stage of project, and how funds will be used;
Project budget, including specific line items requested of ITVS;
Resume of primary producer (the applicant). Be sure to include your full contact details.

Applicants should send their printed application materials to:

Jonathan Archer, Programming Assistant

651 Brannan Street, Suite 410
San Francisco CA 94107

Scholarship Opportunities With The Big 3 Automakers
Category: Life

Greetings Family,
(Contact Information At The Bottom Of The Page)

It's your friendly neighborhood "Digital Drummer" again...smile

Below are just a few samples of the jewels of knowledge that can be discovered in this treasure chest of information...called the Internet.

I'm always promoting educational and scholarship opportunities. Recently I was visiting automotive websites. Blacks in America spend over $32 Billion dollars a year on cars (see www.targetmarketnews.com). It would stand to reason, with all that's going on in our society that their websites would reflect that.

I was pleasantly impressed with the top 3 auto makers (Ford, GM, and Toyota). All had extensive information on their diversity programs, philanthropic projects, and educational opportunities. I threw Mercedes-Benz in the mix, just because...smile

Due to the text limitations and constrictions of this Digital Drum, I can not post all the great socially conscious information I found in detail, but I highlighted a few programs that caught my eye. I strongly recommend that if you're involved in the community, or work with youth,...you should visit Ford, GM, and Toyota's websites for yourself.

The easiest and most direct way to learn about scholarships is go to the source. Remember, all I do is beat on this Digital Drum, passing information from one group to another. One of my best sources is www.blackstudents.com, another Black owned website is www.blackexcel.org. Lastly if your looking for an online community focused on educational opportunities, check out the BDPA (www.bdpa.org) communities on most social networking sites (such as Yahoogroups, FaceBook, LinkedIn, etc.)

Online search engines specializing in financial assistance for college such as www.finaid.org or www.scholarships.com are also great resources for prospective scholarships. To submit a free application for federal student aid (FAFSA), visit: www.fafsa.ed.gov or call 1-800-4-FED-AID.

Remember, We Must Share The Knowledge (Network)...To Share The Dollars!!!
