When you meet a person who uses a wheelchair...
Current mood: hopeful
Category: Life

In no particular order:

Do not hold onto a person's w/c. It is part of their personal space...and it could throw off his/her balance.

Offer assistance but do not insist upon it. If a person needs help, he/she will let you know.

Talk directly to the w/c user, not to a third party. He/she is not helpless.

Don't be sensitive about using words like "walking" or "running". People in w/c's use those same words.

Be alert to architectural barriers when selecting a restaurant, home, theatre or other facility, to which you want to visit with a w/c user.

If conversation lasts more than a few minutes, consider sitting down or squatting, in order to share eye level. It is uncomfortable for a w/c user to look straight up for a long period of time.

Don't park in a handicap-accessible parking space. These are reserved out of necessity, not convenience. The space is wider in order to get a w/c in and out of a car/van. It is close to the building so that he/she doesn't have to contend with cars pulling out of other spaces.

When children ask about w/c's and people who use them, answer them with a simple explanation. Don't make them feel bad for being curious.

Although, it is 'never' okay to ask rude questions, i.e. "What's wrong with you?" Children learn by example...teach them to be sensitive to people who are different than themselves.

When you hear someone use the term "cripple", politely but firmly indicate your preference for a more appropriate word.

Good and what it can do for you and all!
Current mood: optimistic

I read this on another person's blog. He invited everyone to post it to their own blog, so that's what I'm doing, because it's a good message...

Every intelligent person on the planet knows that good unifies us all more than any religion, politics or culture ever will...

Can we use the internet, music or even myspace to save the world?

Be you atheist, muslim, christian, hindu or whatever, the intent to be good unifies us all. What is good is open to discussion, not war...

Party politics, religious dogma, arbitrary/historical political borders and being too sure of any one opinion are what divide. We should all know we know nothing for sure...

We now have the power to unite beyond these out-dated notions. We live in the most amazing time ever and it could go either way. It's up to us, we have to take responsibility now and stop making excuses.

Whether there is an after-life, a judgement day, an omnipotent force guiding us, a shared life energy, or nothing at all is beside the point and all can be used as an excuse to do nothing.

Global communication and political/corporate accountability could be the most powerful and fast-acting force for good we have ever seen. Why should only chain mails and viruses spread fast?

We could have Heaven on Earth now. Let's not allow greed, ignorance and apathy to continue making it Hell...

100,000,000 users on this thing? Be friends...

If you agree, please copy and add to your blog and tell as many friends as you can. Don't add any personal opinions though since they divide people...

I'm 1 year old...
Current mood: grateful

Well, my little corner of MySpace is - and it's been a fun year. I only had 2 friends (Brad & Harmony) when I started and knew practically nothing about HTML. Now, both of those have changed. My page is MUCH prettier and I found many new (and old) friends.

I found 6 relatives (Meghan, Jessica, Joshua, Breana, Janell & Jennifer). I met 7 people (Chris, Sean, Alana, Jimi, Hyde, Jim & Eric) through 1 person (Paul) who I added because I enjoy photography. I met 4 of the 7 in person (Chris, Paul, Sean & Jimi) and we had a blast...at least 'I' did.

I've also recently added some cartoon characters just because they seem like fun. All in all, I have 36 friends, which is a good number. Although meeting more people/friends would be great! I just don't need 10,000 people that I don't talk to.  lol!

I wrote this because I wanted everyone on my friend's list to know that I appreciate your company. You've made the last year interesting...and more times than I can count, laugh-out-loud funny.

Tag, you're it!
Current mood: amused
Category: Games

Rules are as follows...once you are tagged, you must write a blog telling 6 weird facts/things/habits about yourself. Then choose 6 of your friends to tag and list their name at the end of your blog. After that, send them a message or comment telling them to read your "it" blog and things will be peachy.

6 abnormal facts, things, habits...about me for all of you to know.

1. I have a nervous habit of picking at my fingers and it bugs me when people tell me I should stop biting my nails. I 'never' put my fingers in my mouth...unless I'm licking something yummy off of them.

2. I always rag on my brothers but it's more out of habit than actual irritation with them...I think. ; )

3. I love lightning...I mean I 'love' lightning! I don't know why.

4. I'm the nicest person in the entire world...unless or until someone pisses me off. No, I'm not trying to scare anyone. lol! I call it 'self-preservation'.

5. I hate air-conditioning. I'd rather be too hot than turn it on.

6. I can't stand commercials so I'm a constant channel changer. BUT if I 'am' watching something, I always manage to get back to the show just as it's coming out of the last commercial.

I tag Chris, Alana, Jim, Jimi, Kimi, and Jamie.

Stop Blaming MySpace
Current mood: determined
Category: MySpace

Anybody happen to catch Nightline last night on ABC? In case you didn't, one of the hot topics discussed was MySpace. It is no secret to anyone who reads the newspaper or watches the 6 o'clock news that MySpace has been in the limelight because of "sexual predators" trying to "abduct and corrupt" the youth of the world. YEAH FREAKIN RIGHT! I see dozens of profiles a day showing 14 year old girls dressed like sluts, wearing four inches of make up and 32 layers of eyeliner, displaying their age as 18 years old and profile lines stating "Oh, I'm So Sexy" or "Hey There, Wanna Check Up On It?" The youth of today's world are already corrupt enough due to the undying need to be "older" than they really are. I seriously doubt there are tons of people on MySpace stalking "innocent young girls" who just happen to have tramped up profiles and ages 4 years greater than their own. BESIDES, what are the parents thinking letting their children act like internet hussies?

On Nightline, there was a story of a 12 year old girl who was a drug-addict and attributed it all to MySpace. She claims that MySpace allowed her to easily find drug dealers in her area, as well as older men to have sex with her. Now, at the age of 14, she has been checked into a drug-rehabilitation clinic and has been away from her family for 5 months. Her parents would rather place the blame squarely on the shoulders of MySpace instead of their daughter, who even admitted that at the age of 12, had already tried weed, crack, X, and had slept with numerous guys older than herself...but of course, it wasn't her fault, it was all because of MySpace.

GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK! When are parents and children going to stop passing the blame and grow up enough to take responsibility for their actions and the actions of their children? Parent's, monitor your children online, take some responsibility for YOUR children. Children, if a profile name sounds like something that comes out of a cheap horror movie like "DARK ANGEL OF DEATH WHO EATS THE BRAINS OF GIRLS"...chances are you DO NOT WANT TO ADD THEM AS A FRIEND. Apparently there is new legislation in Congress now to block MySpace in all public schools and public libraries across the
United States. All because little girls want to act grown and don't want to accept the consequences and parents don't want to accept the fact that their "innocent little girls" are posing as 18 year old crack whores trying to buy drugs.

Eventually, if this continues, MySpace could be totally outlawed from the Internet. Restrictions will be put in place in order to make MySpace "safer". I don't know about you, but I use MySpace to keep in touch with my family and friends, use it for messages, and just to have a space that is my own. Just because some children want to act grown, does that mean I may have to eventually give up my MySpace? If you feel the same way I do, please, repost this in your blogs or bulletins, or both as "STOP BLAMING MYSPACE". If enough people post this and spread the word, maybe people will get the picture and stop blaming MySpace for every little thing that their children do wrong. As users of MySpace, we should all repost this and take some sort of action. This is not a chain letter, and nothing will happen to you if you don't repost this in 321654987 seconds. However, of all bulletins you will read today, I am sure that this one is the only one that actually has a point to it. So please, have some common sense, and repost this. Thanks.

I'm the girl who...
Current mood: peaceful

I'm the girl who will put her head on your shoulder, not because she's sleepy, but because she wants to be closer to you...

I'm the girl who likes to be kissed in the rain, more than inside your bedroom or in an expensive restaurant...

I'm the girl who says, "Ok, but you owe me..." jokingly, not because I actually want something, but because it means I get to spend more time with you...

I'm the girl you can take absolutely anywhere and I will (or at least try to) have fun because it means I am spending time with you...

I'm the girl who is incredibly picky, but when I find someone I like I want to spend the whole night curled up in his arms...

I'm the girl who never forgets all the sweet little things you do for me...

I'm the girl who never gives up hope even when I tell others I have...

I'm the girl who once I let you into my heart, there's always a place there with your name on it, & even if we spend time apart, I'm the girl who never forgets you...

I'm the girl who loves to end a hug with a kiss...

I'm the girl who you can talk to you about anything...

I'm the girl who laughs at your jokes...

I'm the girl who will brag about you to all of my friends...

I'm the girl who loves it when you hug me for no apparent reason...

I'm the girl who loves it when you hug me from behind or kiss me on the forehead..

I'm the girl who loves you for you, and doesn't care what other people say about us...

I'm the girl who loves it when you introduce me to your friends as yours...

I'm the girl who loves the feeling when you take me by the hand without saying a word...

Why I'm with that guy...
Current mood: pleased
Category: Romance and Relationships

I don't know if any of you saw it, but my most recent headline read, 'Nothing in Nature is unbeautiful'.  It's a quote from Lord Alfred Tennyson.

So Mark (my b/f) is on my MySpace helping me with an HTML issue. He reads the headline and says, "Nothing in nature is unbeautiful?" I replied, "It's a different way of saying 'everything in nature is beautiful'.

He kinda snorts and says, "Except bear sh!t." I cracked up, thought "what the heck?" and it's now my new headline.

That's My Mark! : )
