ZOMBIE CSU - pre-launch ART CONTEST
Current mood: artistic

My next book, ZOMBIE CSU: The Forensics of the Living Dead (Citadel Press, nonfiction; $16.95) will be out at the end of August

It's a wonderfully weird book in which I ask hundreds of  experts in law enforcement, forensics, medicine, the sciences, and other related fields to speculate on how the real world would react, research and respond to an event like the rising of zombies as shown in movies like Night of the Living Dead.  I have folks from 9-1-1 operators to top scientists to people at Homeland Security.

Starting today I'm kicking off a bunch of pre-launch events including an art contest.  Here are the rules:

THE ART OF THE DEAD

If you are an artist in ANY media (pencil, pen, paint, sculpture, digital
art, photography, ice sculptures, cave paintings…whatever), then send us a picture of the best or most interesting zombie you've ever done.

Artists from ZOMBIE CSU will judge the work and I'll fork over some prizes (signed books, signed art, creepy toys, etc.).  Winners and their art will be featured on the book's official website (being built as we speak).

CATEGORIES

BEST ZOMBIE EVER: A masterpiece of the macabre

CELEBRITY ZOMBIE: Zombify your favorite star or public figure

ZOM COM: Get your funny freak on

ACTION ZOMBIE: Let's see some zombie mayhem

JUDGES:

We have a powerhouse line-up of judges, too!

(Their art is featured in ZOMBIE CSU)

Alan F. Beck

Jacob Parmentier

Jason Beam

Peter Mihaichuk

Rob Sacchetto

JONATHAN MABERRY – TWO SIGNINGS ON FRIDAY

JONATHAN MABERRY – TWO SIGNINGS ON FRIDAY

Friday's going to be an exciting day, with two book signings on the menu.

First up is FANGORIA WEEKEND in Secaucus, NJ.  http://www.creationent.com/cal/fangocon/fangonj.htm

I'm sharing a booth with fellow Bram Stoker winner Kim Paffenroth, author of the nonfiction book THE GOSPEL OF THE LIVING DEAD and the novel DYING 2 LIVE.  I'll be there from 1pm until 4:30 or 5 and then I'm outta there to head to….

CLINTON BOOK SHOP for another slightly weird but always fun night with THE LIARS CLUB.  http://clinton.booksense.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp;jsessionid=bacJLLJbL7gAUasqYBIQr?s=storeevents&eventId=377258

I'll be signing books with fantasy author Gregory Frost and forensic thriller author D H Dublin (aka Jon McGoran).  Clinton Book Shop is one of those great independent bookstores where real book-lovers can find stuff you'll never see in the chain stores.

See you there!

Rob Sacchetto and his Zombie Portraits

I want to pull on your coat about something...

As you know I dig zombies.  I have my book, ZOMBIE CSU: The Forensics of Zombies coming out from Citadel Press on August 26.  I have zombies running wild in BAD MOON RISING.  I really dig zombies.

A coupla years ago I stumbled onto the artwork of Rob Sacchetto, a guy who makes a career out of turning people into zombies.  There's a whole folder of his art in my PICS section.  Check it out.

Rob's done portraits of George Romero, Tom Savini, Max Brooks, Scott Ian from Anthrax, Kirk Hammett of Metallica…and ordinary folks who send in pics of their families (and even their babies) to get zombified.

Rob runs a website, www.zombieportraits.com, where you can order your own zombie portraits.  He's done over 450 of these things (which means you and I aren't the only sick and twisted folks here on the Net). Soon as I get my new author headshot I'm ordering my portrait; and Laura Schrock, my writing partner for my ABC Disney show, ON THE SLAB is going to do the same.

Some of Rob's art will be in ZOMBIE CSU.  But don't wait for that…go get yourself zombified!

BAD MOON RISING – The Soundtrack

Okay, guys…let's get a spooky music groove on.  I'm creating a mix tape to play when I'm doing signings and I want your suggestions for some songs (any artist, any style) that would really fit with Bad Moon Rising and the other books of the Pine Deep Trilogy.

Hit me with your best suggestions….

BAD MOON RISING - Pine Deep madeness

Well, BAD MOON RISING has been out for nearly a month (longer if you count all the stores that put it on the shelf early) and the response has really been intense.  This is my third novel, and even though there was a lot of support for the first two (especially GHOST ROAD BLUES, which went on to win the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel), the response to BAD MOON RISING has blown me away.

I've gotten thousands of letters, emails, message board postings (everything short of a carrier pigeon) from readers telling me that they think BMR is the best book of the series.

Thank you!  Thanks to everyone who has come to Pine Deep to share in the weird fun of the Halloween Festival and the crnage of the Red Wave!

You guys  --the readers-- you rock!
