california coast tour...

hello all!
I am on my way to minneapolis... time to kill at the SAN. all is well. Our time in the studio this week was che sweet. thanks for visiting our live webcam to check out the action. thanks to all who hung out at the shows last week- such good time!

------------------------------------------------------------

Highlights:
The solo thang at Lifest was a great time- I was a bit punchy but maybe that's the best way to play live music.

Late night drives back to minneapolis in the rain with bobby and keith= scary. I might have been way too tired to be driving?!

The free coffee-shop show was mellow and yellow. Thanks so much to our new found friends for the use of their PA. And thanks for the copious amounts of caffeine!

The thunderstorm in minneapolis was just about as crazy as the sing along that ensued on the top of the hotel room.

------------------------------------------------------------

I'm amped to announce that I'm headed out on my first real solo run with Aaron and Keith. We're heading up the coast with Tim Curran for a few dates- in two weeks- Playin' these campfire songs up the coast of California- so amped!

be there or be square...
(or be from the east coast somewhere!)

peace,
jon

the end of the project.

yeah!
everybody, how are you? I am doing strong to quite strong. We just finished up laying the foundation for a few new tunes for the new foot record last night- and now, after a quick surf session I'll be ready to get on a plane a play a couple shows back east...

today, however, marks a milestone for me. Today, june 24th, marks the completion of a project I began about a year ago- the seasonal EP's are now out in stores! 24 songs later, I'm grateful to look back and listen to the last year of my life through this project. It came out better than I could have imagined.

Today my wife and I went down to Lou's, (my local record store) and bought a copy, (a tradition we have) and I started thinking about back when I was in high school. I used to bring my band's CDs to Lou to sell on consignment. And now music has taken me places. I am so thankful to be able to sing these songs. These are simple songs, but they're mine. There's blood and joy and anger and laughter in them. My reasons for living. My hopes and fears. And pain. These are my fight songs.

So thanks for fighting alongside of me. Thanks to everyone who's been involved and encouraging along the way. These four EP's turned out to be a much bigger project than I thought they would be- I hope they can serve you well. I hope they take you places.

letters to the editor 3

who is the girl singing with you on "house of God, forever?"...
her voice is fragile and angelic and i want to know where to find more of her singing.

thanks

shane s.

hi shane,
that's a great question. her name is sarah masen and she's incredible. she's been my secret weapon on a few of these tracks... my secret weapon of peace and harmony- that's right.

thanks for the question- Sarah, (my wife's sister) has one of the finest voices around, I'm honored to know her...

post bro am thoughts...

hola mis amigos!
thanks for the kind words about the summer EP! (and thanks for getting it to number ten on I tunes... crazy town!) I'll dive into that in a little while. Right now, I'm still in Bro Am-ville... digesting a full weekend. Here's a few thoughts:

To me, the Bro-Am is a day where pro surfers, pro skaters, and musicians come together to acknowledge some of the bravest heroes I can think of: homeless teens and the folks who help support them. I feel incredibly honored to stand alongside of some of these amazing kids this weekend: kids who are fighting for hope, fighting for love, fighting for shelter- fighting for the bare essentials.

Against all odds, these kids refuse to give up. They refuse to believe that their lives are meaningless. They have the strength of character to pursue their dreams in spite of their present situations. It was a privilege to join StandUp For Kids in their efforts to support these young fighters in their quest for hope and truth and love.

The Bro-Am is truly one of my favorite days of the year- a day that combines surfing, music, and friends around San Diego- all for a cause bigger than ourselves. Thanks to everyone who made this years event such an amazing experience. Let's continue to ensure that StandUp For Kids feels our support all year long.

last night was the bro- am auction dinner. Where to start? such an amazing evening. Mia and Kip my incredible friends from High School head it up every year - and this year was simply incredible.

Highlights:
Stand up is one of the most incredible organizations we've ever been involved with. please check them out. http://www.standupforkids.org/ volunteer!
Kim, up at the O-side brach is remarkable.
Drew is the best MC ever.
incredible folks from around the globe (literally) joining in with north county folks to change our community for the better.

Auction items included:
an Andy Irons surfboard,
a tony hawk skateboard,
a trip in a private jet to a wine tasting in Napa Valley
a signed flight of the conchords guitar
a signed tom morello guitar
what!? yeah... and many more...

I'm more excited than ever for this sat. I was trying to come up with the feeling the bro-am gives me and this is the best I've got: it's like christmas for folks who don't believe in santa clause. thanks to everyone who made this years event so spectacular.

see you soon!

rental trains and their usefulness in rock-videodom

Last night we filmed the video for a song called "This is Home" written for the new Narnia movie. I think it will turn out great- we rented a subway station in LA (including a subway train!) sweet.

Highlights include:
-wind blown bits of paper flying at us at an incredible rate
-surprise folks walking around the video, (ie: Keith Tutt and more...)
-drew playing a jazz master
-romey playing an old yamaha CP 70, (after he battled a full day of cancelled flights to get there)
-got to see the daylights and co.
-worked with brandon dickerson again, (he's such a great guy...)
-got to shoot a crazy boom shot at hollywood and highland on a sunday night. yes. so weird and fun.

--------------------------------------------------------
The whole thing wrapped up a few hours ago in the wee hours of the morn. so now I'm here at LAX drifting in and out of sleep. Trying to make sure I don't miss my flight out to nashville. Richie has already started mixing summer- we're hoping to finish it this week. Oh boy!

the line up as of now:
-the house of god forever
-instead of a show
-deep in your eyes (there is a river)
-resurrect me
-a mirror is harder to hold
-again

letters to the editor 2

Hey everybody!
tis the season for letters to the editor... here’s one.

"Who is the female vocalist on "spring?" It was refreshing to hear her sing along with you."

this is something that needs to be discussed.

I think it’s just the first few tracks (let me know if I’m wrong?!)

March - molly jenson
love isn’t made - sarah masen and emily foreman

I’m finishing up summer on the road right now. Thanks to everyone for coming to the shows so far- great times!

peace,
jon
