2,000,000 plays!
Current mood: thankful
Wanted to thank each and every one of you for coming to my page and listening to these tunes... quite a few times. :)
We've crossed the 2,000,000 play threshold last night and thought that mark was at least worth a blog to say thanks!
Hope to have more songs for you to hear in the near future.
Cheers, Joy

Another duo of demos...and a story.
I'd love to hear "One of Those Days" in a Target commercial someday...what do you think?
Does it sound like "me" or should I have another artist record it?
...and, below is a story that goes along with another new song called "Carried Her Away"- a song written last week by a wonderful artist named Caitlyn Smith, along with my friend Aaron Rice and myself. Check out some of Caitlyn's other songs at http://myspace.com/caitlynsmithmusic
The story of Julie:
Julie was a remarkable woman. But you may not have noticed that if you hadn't truly known her like Caitlyn did, who I had the privilege of writing with last week. Julie loved the simple moments of life – the sound of rain on a roof, photographing small moments missed by others, dew on summer grass, sharing stories, good conversations with friends, volunteering at her church, etc. She was constantly giving herself away to others. And that selfless spirit is a story that Julie told even in the last moments of her life.
Julie's home church in MN held a camp for inner-city teens a month ago, and Julie volunteered to go along. Underneath the open sky, teens camped out, fires blazed, and many swam in the swelling river close by that led to breathtaking waterfalls. One camper, a 17 year old girl, was enjoying the river when she waded too far out. The current swept her underneath, and Julie rushed to help. She reached one hand desperately out over the water, and with her other hand grasped a rock on the shore for anchor. The torrent of the river raged on too strong, and it became clear that Julie couldn't hold on much longer. But if Julie let go, this 17 year old girl was going to undoubtedly meet her death careening over the several waterfalls down river. And in a split second, Julie chose something very few of us ever would. She let go...of the rock that held her safe on the shore.
She went with the camper in a desire to save her, but neither of them made it out alive. Julie gave her life to try and save another.
Caitlyn wanted to write a song that would honor her friend's bravery and selflessness, and it was a privilege celebrating Julie through this song...
"Carried Away" has been posted on my Joy Williams: writer's page, that you can find in my top friends.

Both songs are located on my writing page - just look in my top friends to find it.
Hope you dig the new tunes!

Hopping Across The Pond...
It's official: Nate and I are heading to Europe, and we're leaving SOON! We've been planning another trip overseas (we love it over there!), and now we are finally hopping across the pond for over a month. We've been saving, dreaming, and now...we're packing. :)
Our hope is to experience a trip where less in more while we travel. First, we're only bringing what we can fit in individual backpacks. Second, we're not wanting this to be a super-consumer trip...but a chance to just encounter the beauty around us.
We'll be jumping around France, England, Italy, Spain, Sweden and a few other countries. We will be staying with friends, I'll be song writing a bit, and the rest of the time we will be embracing the beautiful, varied communities around us. We couldn't be more excited!
Just wanted to let you know the reason why it may be longer before I respond to you on MySpace. Gallivanting takes some time :)

New Song...
Hey...
I just added a new song to my writers profile. See below on my top friends list and look for "Joy Williams: writing page" to hear a new tune I wrote with friend/author/producer Matt Bronleewe. It is being considered for a few pop projects out in LA. Take a listen!

Scissor Plunge...
For over a decade, this mane of mine has been long and longer...blonde, then back to my original brown...but still, long. Feminine intuition said it was time to switch things up a bit. And it took me a year to muster up the courage to cut my hair off. But I went in today and took the scissor plunge.
I feel strangely lighter... a little odd... but good... I feel a little shock over how MANY inches fell to the floor today...but I like it... I feel minutely like a 3rd grader, because that was the last time I had hair this short. Except...back then, a perm was involved. There. I said it. It was the late 80's...that's my excuse, anyway.
Why the change? Because I wanted to do something for myself I've been hesitant to do in the past. Because life's too short to worry about something that will eventually grow back. Because it's quite simply a woman's prerogative... :)

p.s.- To read about a TRULY inspiring woman, see below for Beryl Markham's story. Amazing book. Ernest Hemmingway said her writing put his to shame!

...25...
Current mood: curious
Birthday. Candles, friends, the occasional token wrapped with ribbon. A time to celebrate, reflect. I find myself cresting what many call the "quarter life crisis". In short, I am turning an age that seems more mature than I actually feel. :) I know, I know... 25 is so young in comparison to those far more wizened than me. But still, 25. It just feels, well, older somehow. Weird. *smile* I say this with humor, of course. I hardly feel grown up. :) If anything, I feel I know less than I ever have. Time & Experience are masters of deconstruction. I feel the distance of the journey yet walked, even though a few steps of it have been taken...just a few. Still, along the way, Heaven has dropped a few articles in my backpack of a heart- Polaroids of faces I've met on my travels, confetti from former celebrations, dust from different corners of the globe, laughter kept in jars from loved ones, prayers on paper, ashes from deep grieving and loss, cages too small to live in any further...unresolved questions that lounge around like loose change at the bottom of my bag. And as I rummage through it all, I am thankful...curious...continually humbled...forever a student on this earth. I am still so stubborn, so impatient, so young... and yet so grateful for the chance to continue learning on this journey... I am standing on tip toe to see what else God's got up His divine sleeve, what else will find it's way into my backpack along the way... Either way, I'm turning 25. *smile*

A new adventure...
Current mood: thankful
Hey friends... As I've mentioned before in previous blogs, I have slowly transitioned off the road and have begun focusing more closely on song-writing full-time. I am savoring this change! I have a great group of musicians and writers that I get to collaborate with...and that group is expanding every week. Each day, I get to create! I get to listen, respond, share ideas, slip on the skin of someone else in the creative process...and help turn real stories into songs. In the last few months, I've written with pop acts, rock bands, major LA producers, noted songwriters, American Idol finalists, CCM acts, country musicians, and indie artists. It has been nothing short of totally invigorating. I'm heading out to LA next week...possibly NYC next month...and talks about heading to London for some writing time are in the works. I am thrilled about this new chapter in my story...and filled with hope and passion. If you want to listen to a couple songs, check out my song-writer's page, "Joy Yetton", and you'll catch just a glimpse of how different each day's writing process can really sound. :) I totally appreciate your prayers as I navigate this new journey...
