Category: mindless Quiz/Survey

Yesterday LG was in rare form.. he's cutting a molar and it really hurts!!! He wont take any Tylenol so it was just a matter of trying to comfort him. After 4 hours of on and off screaming I was spent! As soon as Mikey walked in the door I bolted for the basement on a quest to find stress relief.

It didn't take long! I clicked on my bookmarks and there it was… BLOGTHINGS! Mindless Joy:) Ahhh!

And I thought why not post some of my quiz results in a blog? Wont all my friend be overjoyed to waste 5 minutes of their precious lives reading through this BS? Of coarse they would!

The Umbrella Test

What Your Orange Umbrella Says About You

When faced with adversity, you are able to come up with a creative solution.

You Failed 8th Grade Geography

Sorry, you only got 6/10 correct!

Uh… duh.. yi thunked ida dun gud.

What Bikini Color Should You Wear?

You Should Wear a Yellow Bikini

Like the sun, you radiate warmth and brighten up everyone's day.

Your Birthdate: June 29

You have the mind of an artist, even if you haven't developed the talent yet.

You don't buy into retro gender roles, though you do embrace your femininity at times.

A 1930's man may find you passable, but you probably wouldn't want anything to do with him.

Apparently 1930's house wives liked to tell dirty jokes and risqué stories… I'm down with that!

What's Your Androgynous Name?

Your Androgynous Name Is:

Giles Burt

Ooookay.

Who Were You In a Past Life?

Then it's a pretty good thing that I am married!!! Hahahaha! Poor Mike.

Do You Have a Big Mouth?

Your Mouth is a Little Big

You're not a total tell all, but you don't hide who you are either.

You've struck a good balance between discretion and sharing.

Welcome to The Complaint Department

We are now excepting grievances and general moans and groans. Please feel free to whine, piss and bitch about any annoyance you may be having. Go on and on if you like, no one is paying attention anyway. But if it helps you to feel as if someone does indeed give a crap about your pathetic irritation please, by all means, feel free to jot us a note (or a thesis). We'd be happy to brush over it with nary a thought.

If we do feel that your particular problem is worthy of a speck of our precious attention we'll be sure to post a brief blog explaining that we know that there is in fact a situation that we need to address and just as soon as we are done tweaking out our new high tech hydroponic cannabis farm we will be sure to try to do something about it (in between bong hits of coarse).

As a consolation for all these things that really gets your gall, our team of sun drenched super geeks are working on all sorts of exciting and useless NEW features that will inevitably give you cause to come here, to The Complaint Department where we couldn't give a rats ass what your problem is, but we'll do our best to pretend to.

Sincerely,

The Complaint Department Team

So seriously now… What's your beef? What has been bugging you lately?

Complain about it here… I care, really I do.

And how do you feel about the MySpace team? Do you think they are doing a good job?

be mice elf (part 2)
Category: Music

Saturday morning was a bit rough for me. They didn't have my preferred choice of drink at the show so I made the mistake of drinking Chardonnay that gave me quite a headache. I also made the mistake of leaving our window open and at 5:30 AM we were startled awake by a huge garbage truck there to empty the dumpster at the Holiday Inn next door.

We stayed in bed as long as we could then muddled around the hotel, drinking coffee and commiserating with the other middle aged dmb fans staying at our hotel. Everyone was a bit hung over and said that they had a little bit Too Much fun the night before. But it was still early and we were moving so in hindsight I think we all had just the right amount of fun for a bunch of gray hairs. ;)

We put a new firedancer decal on the car, took showers under one of the coolest shower heads I've ever used then went off to find some lunch.

Photobucket

We drove around Weirton and what was weird was that there were no restaurants but a lot of cafés attached to other business. Like the laundromat also had a café… same with the car wash and the gas station. The only other real restaurant was at the Holiday Inn and I don't like them. We also stumbled upon this place…

Photobucket

…and that sounded like a good idea. But we had to eat food first so we went back to DeeJay's for some more good grub.

Ok… so skip that part and we are off to Saturday nights show.

Not at all like the Friday crowd… it was a sold out show and a Saturday. People had been at the place all day long tailgating and the youngins were pretty much three sheets to the wind when we arrived at 6PM. The weather was iffy and these huge cloud decks started to form overhead putting a whole other energy into the air. I could tell that we were not going to be able to relax the way we did the night before.

As we got more into the place it got more crowded and an hour before show time people were getting pretty sloppy. We find our seats and decide to watch a little bit of the opening act when what do you know… a rent-a-cop decides to start messing with a guy dancing in an empty row.

This guy in the hat…
Photobucket

He was doing no one NO harm and got a lot of crap for it. He had all his faculties and he was just enjoying the space from what I could tell. I saw it as an injustice.

I saw a lot of injustices Saturday night where security was concerned. Friday I was allowed to take the cap for my unopened water bottle in with me… Saturday I was not. "It could become a projectile." they say. I say "I'm a fucking grown-up." with a smile of coarse.

Coincidently… during the show… I myself became the victim of one of these projectiles in the form of a glow stick which they sell at the venue for profit. It hit me like a spear ½ inch under my EYE!! Last time I checked, bottle caps weren't a major cause of eye injury… just sayin'.

The set list for Saturday was top notch! The band really started to jell. They even played my favorite song 41 :)

Photobucket

It's too bad that a girl just behind us, on the walkway running between the lawn and the pavilion was having a flippin' temper tantrum!!! I ignored her the best I could because they don't play 41 very much and I really wanted to enjoy it. I got through the song ok but going into the next song listening to her tirade was not going to happen. Just as we were about to leave that area a guy in our row told her to "Buzz off!!" I said "You're ruining the show!!" and she looked up at us and ran away! Thank God!!

Kids kept climbing over the six foot wall into the last row on the seats… that's where we were. The kid in front of us was drunk, but happy and clumsy. He tried to stand on his seat because I was standing on mine and fell backwards. We caught him, reminded him that he was drunk and he behaved after that.

The music started to become an afterthought and I was sad. Pittsburgh has always been a pleasure to visit so I'm calking it off to spring fever.

The band ended the night with Money a Pink Floyd cover and Money (That's what I want) a Beatles cover. Both an appropriate end to an evening sort of wasted. I felt bad for those who wouldn't remember the next day and bad that we didn't thoroughly enjoy the music we went there for.

We decided to hang back where we were till the bottle neck on the walkway between the lawn and the pavilion had cleared up. We were watching it move from the top of the six foot wall. People were packed in body to body… I would usually find erotic, but it just looked dangerous… as I was about to say out loud "That looks like a recipe for disaster." it starts! This line backer of a guy, an easy 350 pounder and this other fairly big dude start to twirl in the sea of people directly below us. They looked like the eye of a hurricane twirling each other around and throwing punches. Bystanders were getting knocked down and the traffic flow collapsed on its self. At one point at least 4 big guys were trying to take the biggest dude down but there was no stopping him. He punches a woman and charged at anyone one who got in his cross hairs. The whole time we are yelling for security and all we got were these (excuse me) piss ants with no radios to call for the real law enforcement. People were scaling the wall to get out of his way as if they were avoiding a head on collision. The Big DRUNK asshole continued on his rampage for some time… hitting another woman into the wall and then landing on top of her grabbing her chest! We went ahead to try to get real help to get this guy under control but it was too late. He ran off into the crowed and I'm sure they ever got him.

I've never been a party to that kind of situation at a Dave show. DMB draws a very diverse crowed of people, but this night the numbers were off and the drunks were out. I'm sure that Bull of a guy didn't walk into that place wanting to cause such chaos and violence and he probably would have had a great time had he known his own limits. It was just sad.

We stayed up late that night and made the most of our time alone together… feeding our souls in other, more quiet ways. That after all is what our little trip was about.. it was fun to just take care of each other for a change and just be together.

We returned to a happy home and a tired but successful Aunt Becky. The kids were good. :)

Do you know your own limits?

Did you learn them the hard way?

And thanks you guys for being interested in my life, I know it's not all too interesting but it feels good to share it with you.

It has been 5 years since Mike and I have had much more than 24 hours alone together! Wow! Five years.

Usually we go once a year for an overnighter and then right back home the next day. That's life with kids I guess. When I was a little kid I spent every weekend with my grandma and great aunt... my parents were working most of those weekends but they also went on get-a-ways and long vacations without me because of help from their parents. I guess I thought we would have similar opportunities to get out of dodge, but our parents lives are not the same as their parents. And so it goes….

Fortunately for me I have this one really awesome, true blue and god given friend who understood my need and gave up a weekend so that Mike and I could take a much needed long deep breath alone together. I just gotta say it again Beck… Thank You and I Love You.

So Friday Becky was able to come sooner than expected which was great! We were on the road to Weirton WV (or Weirdon as I like to call it) by 1:30 PM.

Photobucket

We would normally stay in Steubenville OH (or Stupidville as I like to call it), but decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel closer to Burgettstown PA where the amphitheater is. Besides Steubenville is kinda stupid and as we all know weird is way better than stupid. ;)

We found our hotel after getting off at the wrong exit and were pleased to find a beautiful indoor pool and spa and real linens on the bed! I'm talking down comforters and cotton sheets people!! It was very nice. But don't ya know I didn't take a single picture inside the hotel… oh well. We had plenty of time to chill out and enjoy the pool before getting ready for the show so that's what we did.

Before the show we had appetizers at a really good restaurant called DeeJay's (reminded me of JD). The folks there were super friendly and made us feel welcome and at home… I love that feeling. We had delicious muscles in marinara… NYC style! Yummy!!

The ride into the show is always fun… the real dmb fanatics are out in full force and take decorating their cars for the show very seriously.

Photobucket
(I actually love this firedancer decal but it's a cop magnet and who need the headache?)

We settled into our space in the parking lot and cracked open the cooler that Mikey so lovingly packed.

Photobucket

Cheers!
Photobucket

Friday night the crowd was nice and laid back… an older and smaller crowd. Our seats were ok… no actually for being a member of the dmb fan association for 10 years they sucked, but we rarely stay in our assigned seats anyway. I hate feeling closed in, especially in crowds so we moved back to an empty section to enjoy the show.

They opened with Don't Drink the Water and I was blown away by these HD panels! So much so that I didn't even realize I was watching Tim Reynolds on guitar!! Seeing Timmy was a real treat!

Photobucket

I did miss the presence of the bands piano player Butch Taylor. Tim is really good but nothing replaces the piano for me. I read that Butch would be with the band again this tour so now I'm confused. I hope everything is well for him.

We really started to have a great time. The set list moved along quite nicely for me, but I love it all so that's easy. But the audience is what really makes or breaks a show for me and this one was right on. They were so happy and easy going.

This guy was from Detroit, in Pittsburgh wearing a Cleveland Browns t-shirt.

Photobucket

Mike kept hearing people say "Cleveland Sucks" and wondered how the hell they knew where we were from. Then he saw our friend here and he was cool. He was just happy not to be wearing his Red Wings shirt being they were playing the Penguins that night! He said that he didn't even think about the Browns thing… LOL! All I know is that he had sweet love handles to hang onto. :D

I thought about my MySpace friends a lot during the Friday show… Crash, Grey Street and Rapunzel each reminded me of a few of you. I poured down tears thinking of one of you during Gray Street. I thought about how two of you would be perfect for each other during Rapunzel and for some reason one of you has an affinity for the innuendo of Crash into Me.

They closed the show with Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) a Sly and the Family Stone cover and how can that song not remind me of all of you?

So Thank YOU for letting me be myself AGAIN!!!

…to be continued

big eyed fish
Category: Life

I know you have all been beside yourselves wondering what's the hap with me, and I'm sorry to disappoint but the answer to that is… nothing very friggin exciting. I'm just doing my usual boring "mom" thing of tormenting little boys, trying NOT to get in the face of one of the countless dolts running my sons school and doing the dishes. I really want to be more interesting then that, but I'm not. I haven't even had much luck finding funny lately and for some reason I keep having headaches. Most of my image searches come up dry and frankly you people haven't been giving me much material lately and when you do I'm blank.

But really… it's not you, it's me. I can't expect you people to inspire! I must inspire my own little self! Blaming others for my own short coming has never worked well for me. In the end I own my faults and in that I usually have a rip roaring good time ripping on myself. It's good to laugh at yourself.

What is the point of this you ask?

There is none. Just that I'm blocked, but around.

I'll be busy for the next few days cleaning my house and getting ready to get out of dodge this weekend. Mike and I are going to help The Dave Matthews Band kick-off their summer tour with two shows in Pittsburgh. It's the first time we'll be seeing them back to back and I'm really looking forward to having a few days away from my kids. My dear friend Becky (Sassy Lashes) has been an angel to offer to stay here with them all weekend. I just really hope that it goes well enough that she might entertain the idea of staying with them again some time in the future. What if the whole experience of a weekend with my kids drives her to have her tubes tied? I just couldn't live with myself!!! They had better be good!

I think it would be really nice to be able to turn off "mom me"… at least for a weekend.

And just one more little thing… a song… one I think many of you will relate to.

Big Eyed Fish ~ DMB

look at this big eyed fish swimmin in the sea
oh, how it dreams to be a bird
swoop and dive through the breeze
so one day, caught this big old wave up onto the beach
now the fish is dead, you see
cuz fish should know stay down in the sea

but oh god, under the weight of life
things seem brighter on the other side

The story of this man who decided not to breathe
he turned red, then blue, then purple, so colorful, indeed
no matter how his friends begged and pleaded
he would not concede
now the man is dead, you see
cuz every man should know you got to breathe

but oh god, under the weight of life
things seem brighter on the other side
oh god, but under the weight of life
things seems much brighter on the other side...

you see this monkey sittin up in his tree
until one day, decided to climb down and run off to the city
but look at him now, tired and drunk
the monkey's livin' in the street
as good as dead, you see
cuz every monkey should know, stay up in your fuckin tree

but oh god, under the weight of life
things seem so much brighter on the other side
oh god, but under the weight of life
things seem much brighter on the other side

Have a Great Week everyone! If I'm quiet it's not because I don't love you or because I'm mad at you (billy), it's just because I'm blocked and busy.

Today's question…

Have you ever been to the "other side" and if so did you decide to stay?

rent-a-vent
Current mood: pissed off
Category: School, College, Greek

I just have to vent!

My son is in the 2nd grade and has a detailed report on the Bobcat due next Wednesday. The directions for the report are written for an adult and it is up to us to help with every aspect of the report right down to the bibliography. No help or time at all is given to this report during class time… none. So, essentially we as parents are the teachers no matter how capable we are. This report is also coupled with 90 min of homework every night.

Today I opened up his folder to find yet another project due on Monday! He was the lucky one to pull next week to be featured on the "Wall of Fame", which in-tales writing a report on himself and collecting pictures and special things of his to be displayed in school. Translated means not only do we have to kick his butt to finish the animal report this weekend, but we have to kick his butt to write about himself AND we also have run to office max to buy a printer cartage to print out pictures!(money I wasn't planning on spending!) A few days notice would have been nice. As it is due on Monday, I can not even go to his teacher to ask for a different week or to clarify her directions.

She knows we struggle with BG to keep him to focus, she struggles with him too! Why on Gods green earth would she go ahead and throw something that should be fun in with all this other work that needs done? It's almost like she's setting him up for failure and THAT really pisses me OFF!

He's getting good grades because he works SO hard. I really hope that his spirit doesn't get broken… mine is a bit weak.

So my weekend just went from boring to stressful... boring is looking a whole lot better now! I sure hope yours is going better.

I'm gonna go cry now…

(and no JD this is not a rant.. it is a much needed boring vent;)

This is a test of the Emergency Boredom Blog.

In the event of an actual boredom emergency you may use the comments below to wither away your time until something better to do comes along.

Hopefully that something better is someone wanting to please you with witty banter or chocolate covered strawberries… or a realization that you forgot to check your lottery ticket only to discover you've won.

If nothing better to do comes along you may stay as long as you like and comment to whomever you like, just as long as you are fun and don't piss me off.

You may post pictures and/or videos here, but please no fatty, retard or immigrant jokes will be tolerated! (I'm serious! I really hate that!)

Profanity will be tolerated as long as no ones feelings get hurt. If you hurt the feelings of any commenter you will have to admit that you are NOT smarter then a fifth grader and be forced to tell us your most embarrassing moment… if not a most embarrassing moment will be manifested for you.

No nudity or sexual acts may be displayed in pictures posted… because that's just boring.

Innuendo is ALWAYS encouraged… because that's just fun.

Please allow 7-10 days for nothing.

So, tonight I'm all on my own. No sweetie (not that we are all that sweet on each other at the moment) and no place to go. I'll probably just watch a concert on MusicHD or Rave tonight. I'm ok with being bored, but lonely really sucks.

Have you ever been lonely even with someone's company?

What are you up to this weekend?

How do you keep yourself company?

life tunes
Category: Music

Last week I accepted a music tag from none other then our infamous reMarkable BLOG Heckler, who, by the way is good people. He has his own unique brand of humor that makes us each wonder about him a little, but don't ever let that fool you into thinking he is anything but one of the good guys. He is a good guy no matter how much he professes different.

Any whoo… enough of that being nice to Mark stuff… on with the tag!

This tag is a "Music of Your Life" tag and when you've been a music lover and collector for 30 years the list of songs and memories runs pretty wide and deep. So, I'm just gonna try to give you all a taster of the music of my life… a few of these tunes are near dear favorites but most are more like nostalgic acquaintances… please don't judge my taste in music by what you see here alone;)

I was spoon fed Elton John as a baby. My Big Sis was/is a huge fan and she passed her love for Captain Fantastic right down to me. She turned me onto all kinds of pop music at a young age and most of my earliest memories of music are also memories of her.

This tune is the first I really remember singing along to in the living room with Mary and I love it today just as much as I did as a little girl in the 70's.

This video was used during his Vegas shows. I'm gonna warn you it is STRANGE and graphic. NOT FOR THE KIDDIES!!!

Someone Saved My Life Tonight ~ Elton John

Picture it! It's the early 1980's and I'm stuck at my Mom and Dad's tavern (The Seneca Inn) most afternoons. But I have access to a JUKE BOX! What do I do? I play this song over and over and over again until my Dad cuts off my quarters! The thing that got me was that in the song it only cost a dime.

I Love Rock N Roll ~ Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Around that same time I bought my very first vinyl record with my own money that I saved myself! I couldn't wait to go to the little record store at the shopping center to buy it! I even MADE my dear friend Becky buy it too! The record was Rick Springfield's Working Class Dog and I still have it! I wanted him to sign it SO bad, but when the opportunity came for us to meet him (in our late 20's) we had NOTHING! NO CAMERA and NO RECORDS!... but he did run his fingers through my hair! :D Becky went a little Rick crazy after that...well, just long enough to get my record signed!! :D Thanks Beck!

Love is Alright Tonight ~ Rick Springfield

I was one of the first kids I knew who had cable television and I remember the first days of MTV. This tune reminds me of MTV's early days when it was still about music and not much else.

Come On Eileen ~ Dexys Midnight Runners

As the '80's progressed I really got into R&B and Rap. I can remember going to the teen night club with my girls singing along to this song hoping some hot boy would come along and ask me to dance… we thought we were so cool.

I Need Love ~ LL Cool J

Depech Mode, REM and this band ruled a good part of my high school years. We were goth before Goth was goth. (but I think they call it emo now)

Lovesong ~ The Cure

My good fried Julia turned me onto a woman rocker who I missed during my "dark" phase. We would roll the windows down on the car and go cruising just to feel the wind in our hair while we rocked out! Julia has excellent taste in music and is a pretty damn good musician herself!

Like the Way I Do ~ Melissa Etheridge

Grunge saved rock n roll... I don't care what anyone says. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Blind Mellon… etc. were in constant rotation on my CD player.

This song is one of the best all time rock songs ever and means a lot to me… I get a lot from this song… it reminds me of lost love and lost friends who I miss very much. When I hear it I get chills… it haunts me.

Black ~ Pearl Jam

I love this band! I love the memories I have involving this band! And this song was the one that started it! They might be new to you, but to me and mine they are a classic Midwestern rock n roll band! They ushered in my adulthood and some damn good times!!

Cigarette ~ The Clarks

I didn't really "get" Dave Matthews Band the first time I heard them. I kinda liked what I heard on the radio, but radio music didn't get too much attention from me in the 1990's. I was disenfranchised… still am. Then one day my old pal said "You HAVE to listen to the entire Crash CD from track to track!!!" which intrigued me. Being a Beatles fan I know the importance of listening to an album as a whole, so I listened to Crash fully and LOVED IT!!! I realized over time that their sound was a combination of all the sounds I love all rolled up into one!

This song reminds me of the first time we saw Dave live. It also reminds me of a dear friend who has since left us. This ones for you Denny!!

What Would You Say ~ Dave Matthews Band

So there you have it… a very small slice of the music of my life. If you want to know what I'm into now just check out my Playlist, you'll find a mix of the old, semi-old and not that old on there. My shelves, computer and brain are just about filled to capacity with music… I rarely get into something new unless it's very special.

Peace Y'all and if you want to do this tag please do! I would love to learn about some of the music of your life!

ideas needed

Hey everyone! Happy Spring!

Tomorrow is BG’s 8th Birthday and he and a few of his buddies are going bowling to celebrate. He’s really looking forward to it and I want it to be the good time he wants it to be. Which leads me to asking you for some fun ideas.

I’m planning a silly game for the boys to play while they bowl. It’s pretty simple.. all they need to do is choose a piece of paper out of a bag before their turn and do what the note tells them to do as they bowl.

For example: Do a silly walk as you approach the lane.

Fun huh?
