Marquis magazine that I spoke about in a few blogs back is now on the stands and has a gorgeous 3 pager on some of my favorite pics. The mag is a little pricey being a European slick glossy mag thats very upscale but if you can sneak a peek on the news stands , well do so. i dont think its wrapped so go for it!

SECRETS

The little square space in the viewfinder of a camera is called "THE SECRET" and its a secret space that all photographers share and do different things with. Well, with the knowledge I have come to acquire about "the secret space" I have written a tutorial about that space called it, appropriately enough, "SECRETS". Now Im doing well enough in my career that I dont have to hawk anything here and I really made this DVD to share with my students when i was giving seminars at Las Vegas conventions. So if any of you are interested in this please let me know and I can arrange to get one to yu for a small fee. It has mock ups of lighting diagrams and tutorials on how I light and what my "secrets" are. (well most of them , Ill never give you ALL of them! LOL!) So just send me a message through myspace here if youre interested in obtaining this DVD and learning more about this most amazing craft and the secrets I have come to know and learn about it over time.

4 PAGE PROFILE IN NEXT ISSUE OF MARQUIS MAGAZINE (from London)

Yah art cronies, this news rocks....Ill be in next issue of the upscale fashion oriented MARQUIS magazine out of London, England. They are using some of my shots of Victoria Vengeance which Im stoked about that they will be published and seen, and, well, they picked about 25 shots to run in a 4 page article about my art. MARQUIS, in case you havent seen it, is a scorchy progressive fashion magazine on very slick color stock. DITA Von Teese has been on the cover a number of times I think. Watch for it.

BRAND NEW INTERVIEW

Heres a brand new interview by AKOS BANFALVI which will be printed soon in a Hungarian art magazine. But you can read it here first:

-AKOS: Thank you for your time to answer these questions. First question, please tell us about you and your earlier career before you got into photography.

Justice Howard: - Well I was a model before I was a photographer and I think THAT more than anything gives me the empathy towards my own photographic models now. I know what they are feeling when they walk in front of my lens. I know they are feeling nervous, and insecure and they are worried about that fat spot under their bellybutton!! LOL A male photographer wont really be able to empathize with or even know about any of these things. Thats why I have such a CONNECTION with my girls. Because I "GET IT". I had done alot of modelling for Pontiac cars, greeting cards, calendars etc. and I just got kind of burned out on it so i picked up my own camera and something just went click, and it wasnt the shutter!

- What continues to inspire you?

Justice: - New & creative ideas that have not been executed before. Like the one. I just did called "ONCE UPON A TEASE", a series of erotic fairy tales that will be published across 2 issues of Sirens of Cinema magazine. Now thats an idea that has never ever been done at all before. Since i have completed it, I have now seen 3 copycat recreations of it by 3 other artists... but I was the one who created it first. Walt Disney ended up buying one of the photos from that fairy tale series which was very flattering.

- Could you give us a brief thematic introduction to your work?

Justice: - I think my work is a bit edgier, a bit wilder, and a bit scarier and much fiercer than most of whats out there now. Even my color work is bigger, brighter and more dynamaic. If im shooting with color ill use really bright screamy colors....theres nothing dull about what I do.If Im shooting purple it will be "penis purple" and if its red it will be " screaming slut red" . So, like i said, you know, NOTHING BORING, EVER!!!

- What are your favorite subjects to photograph?

Justice: - People I really have a spiritual connection with. If I like someone alot, it is then very fun to shoot them. The "photo Gods" can make your shoot amazing and they can also make it a flop. When all the ingredients are in the mix, and perfect, the "Photo Gods" will show up and the shots will be awesome beyond belief. I recently shot Dick Dale for a magazine cover. Dick and I bonded, so when it came time for him to get new photos done he called me. I was flattered becasue he could have called anyone he wanted to but becasue he and I had a "connection" he called me. Since I liked him alot, the "photo Gods" were there, and the shots are terrific. A win-win!

- You worked with a lot of rock stars too like Marilyn Manson, Dave Navarro, Dick Dale, Eric Singer, Waylon Jennings, etc. Please tell us about these people and how is it to work with them?

Justice: - DAVE NAVARRO:

WEll of course everyone always asks about Dave Navarro. Dave called me by phone one day and wanted to buy 5 or 6 pieces from me for his bedroom. He jsut said his name was Dave (no last name) so I really never knew who he was, I thought he was just some guy in a low slung baseball cap. I hooked him up with the pieces he purchased and then someone called and said "do you know who that was?" and i said no, that I did not. After this bit of information, I called him back up and asked him if hed like to model for me. I remember his exact words, they were "Id be honored". So then i planned the shoot. One of the things I do is to try to bring people's strongest assets to the forefront. In Dave's case he has a very strong face. I thought up a special idea just for him where Id frame his face with a great pair of legs. I had a model, Jenna, that i was working with, who had the most awesome pair of legs and i asked her if she wanted to work with Dave. (Whats she gonna say....no? I think not! LOL) So we had fun shooting til the wee hours of the morning in my N.Hollywood studio. The shots have become legendary and have never been replicated.

WAYLON JENNINGS

My longtime pal Sonny Barger hooked me up with Waylon Jennings when he came to appear in Las Vegas. Waylon loved Sonny and that was all he wanted to talk about so we spent most of the time talking, not shooting. I only took 10 frames of Waylon that day. Unfortunately those were the last 10 frames ever taken of him as he died one week later. He was in a wheelchair and I told him Id shoot him in the chair (as I didnt want to inconvenience him, you know) and he said very adamently "No fukkin way you will be shooting me in this Goddamn chair!!!" and he proceeded to get up very slowly , leaning against the hotel room wall and i shot 10 frames very quickly and then told him i was done. I wasnt really done, I would have loved to shoot him for an hour or more, but I didnt want to overtire him or anything as I knew he wasnt feeling well. The shots were great, (the "photo Gods" were definitely there that day) A few days later Sonny called me and told me that he had passed away and i was incredibly sad.

KIMO LEOPOLDO:

I was living in downtown LA at the time and had a chick neighbour that had alot of interesting friends. She told me she had this friend who was an Ultimate Fighting Champion named KIMO. I didnt think much of it cause i dont follow UFC at all. But then she introduced Kimo to me in the parking lot and we instantly connected. I asked him right on the spot, (something i never ever do) "Hey want to go right this minute and shoot some pictures?" and because the photo Gods were there, he said "Sure, lets go". Now first of all that kinda shit just doesnt happen especially on a Saturday night when everyone has plans. So we get up to my studio-loft and I snap a few pics of him, maybe 9 or 10, and i said to him... "Mind if i shoot some pics of you in the nude?" And because the photo Gods were there he says "Sure no problem" and whips off his strides and is standing there buck nekkid with the most beautiful, gnarly muscled-up bod, and the most beautiful tats. Now these shots of Kimo have never been published before. They were shown at an art gallery exhibition that i had a few months back but they have never been published anywhere at all, so you guys are the first ever to see them. They are some of my very favorite tattoo shots and Kimo is one of my favorite subjects.

- Theres a bar in Washington DC called The Tattoo Bar that houses over 25 of your images. Please tell us about this bar.

Justice: - Well they wanted some tattoo art for the bar and they had seen one of my galleries on a website called www.vanishingtattoo.com. They got ahold of me and snowballed uphill from there.

It's a bar called THE TATTOO BAR and its incredibly gorgeous, all chrome and silver and dark & sexy and they have my art in light boxes all over the bar. Its on 1413 K Street in Washington, D.C. and from what I understand H.R. Giger & myself are the only artists to have our art in an entire bar room setting.

- What do you like about tattoos?

Justice: - Well, basically tattoos are ART ON THE SKIN. And i love art. So it just makes sense that Id love tattoos. Oddly enough though, i dont have any of my own tattoos. I dont like the idea of not being able to "change it" after its done. Im kind of a "work in progress" and am always changing and growing so it scares me that Id be stuck with it forever. I love looking at them though, and shooting them too!

- For you, what's the importance of tattoo on your photos?

Justice: - Well tattoos are basically an artistic canvas for the skin. Tribal I always liked, thats why i love my shots of Kimo, as it lends a graphic landscape for the body's curves to flow upon and thats why they work well photographically. Tattoos are also a statement and I love people who are making strong, free, and fierce statements on their own.

- What would you say to other enthusiast photographers out there who aspires to what you've achieved?

Justice: - I would tell them to "study the craft". You dont just pick up a tattoo machine and all of a sudden youre a tattoo artist. So why then, would you just pick up a camera and... voila, youre a photographer. Worse than that, how about picking up a scalpel and voila youre a surgeon. Would you go to that Doctor for an operation? My point entirely. Study the craft and learn everything there is to know about it before entering into the profession. The reason im as far along in my career as I am in 9 short years is becasue I studied everything there was to know technically about photographics. And now, I have BOTH the technical & the creative down pat and this is a huge plus plus if you want to take your career seriously.

- Thanks for giving us some minutes for answering this exclusive interview. And finally, what's coming up? Exhibits? Photo shoots? What.

Justice: - Well i just completed a huge exhibition that 600 people attended. It was a super time. We had burlesque dancers, free Vodka, and 70 pieces of great art. Dennis Hopper attended and i sold alot of pieces so that was sweet. The cops showed up 3 times and eventually ticketed the owner for noise violation after trying their best to shut us down. Ill have another show soon Im sure, but right now, Im putting most of my energies into my book which has 110 pages already designed. The publisher is ART SUPREMACY. So my hardcover book is 80% put to bed right now in the design phase. You can always take a trip over to www.justicehoward.com to see more of what I do.

THE TATTOO BAR

Reportedly only 2 artists on the planet have their art in their very own bar. That would be myself and HR Geiger, the award winning Alien movie artist. His bar is in Stockholm Sweden and mine is in Washington DC. Mine is called THE TATTOO BAR and houses over 25 of my images in light boxes and blow up reproductions all over the bar. This is quite probably the coolest bar I have seen as of late. Im sure there will be one in Las Vegas soon enough. I am so happy to be a part of this and to have my art up and displayed and seen by many.  If you're in the Washington DC area, then stop on by.  The address is 1413 K Street.  Make sure to tell your friends!  Here are some pictures.  To view them bigger, you can go to my website at http://justicehoward.com/blog/ to do so.

ROB GEE ROCKS IT N LOCKS IT !

Rob Gee the "Grandfather of Hardcore" made his way in front of my lens. Rob DJ's for SLIPKNOT & BIOHAZARD & WU TANG & CYPRESS HILL & bands like that. Since hes a hardcore mothafukka I had to come up with a strong image for him so I got together with the fabulous GAGE MUNSTER and made a raucious prop just for Rob. Gage makes props for the horror movie industry and I had worked with him before and adore Gage, so Gage and I got together and designed a wild turntable from hell. Broken baby doll heads n spikes adorned this old skool box and Rob locked it with his great gestures.
