THE NEW ALBUM ...coming soon

Yes Yes Yaaal!!! It is time for me to talk a little bit about the upcoming and long awaited release of my new album collaboration with Anoushka Shankar called "Breathing Under Water". It will be released Aug 28/07 on EMI/Manhatten Records, so we have decided to start talking about it now.
This album has taken both of us into uncharted worlds as musicians, composers and producers over the past year and a half. We both spent some time together writing new songs and pieces on sitar and acoustic guitar, respectively. We then took this material into collaborations with super producer Gaurav Raina aka Groovio (Midival Punditz) and Salim Merchant (Bollywood IT composer) to bring them to life. We worked and created music with Sting, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Norah Jones , Noah Lembersky, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shankar Mahadevan and a host of other killer musicians from India and the west to complete our story. The album passed through every stylistic doorway with careful attention to the traditional repetuar. Breathing Under Water spreads its wings wide to handle a journey through orchestral film music from east and west to psychodelic electronica to fusion to traditional rock and beyond.
An official release and myspace site will launch in a week or so, but in the meantime, I wanted to put the word out to you....my friends.....we will be uploading samples of the album , bio and sample pics of what is to come soon.... I just wanted to start the buzz on the ground floor.....Be on the look out for everything....and spread the word

you make the buzzzz...we'll make the honey..

peace and love

ODE, New Album , New Collaborations

It has been a while since I wrote an update. Since the begining of the new year some cool things have been happening. A couple of releases featuring my music have hit the streets and the dwnload universe. I finally finished the album I had been working on with Anoushka and it is to be released later in the year. Anoushka and I spent time over the past year composing and producing some of the most challenging and cutting edge music either of us have been involved...we are very exited. I will include more details very soon...... I also created an ambient remix for Vieux Farka Toure who is a groundbreaking new artist from Mali. I did a cover of the Polices "Spirits In the Material World" which is the first track on one of the coolest CDs Six Degrees has ever put out. It is called Backspin and featured many of the best Six Degrees Artists covering classics they grew up listening and being influenced by....featuring Niyaz doing the Cure's "Love Song", Midival Punditz doing Zeppelins "Four Sticks", Banco Degai doing Floyd's "Echoes" and Shrift doing the Beach Boys classic "God ONly KNows".......It is worth checking out. Also check out the new MP remix CD which featured remixes by myself, the punditz, Jayant and some of the finest psychadelic remixers around.......
Highlight shows this year have been SF Worldly last month with DR Das (Asian Dub Foundation), Cheb I Sabbah and Janaka Selektah....also DJing at Cosm (Temple Of Sacred Mirrors) to an amazing psy crowd while Alex Grey proceeded to paint another masterpiece. Another great show was a live show I played with Vishal Vaid and a group of killer NYC musicians in Tribute to the great Nustrat Fateh Ali Khan.

I have recently been collaborating with legendary guitar wizard Gary Lucas both on some compositions and a new live show...we will be getting up with Vish and Yosi Fine this Saturday at Joes Pub for a long overdue jam.

I will also be heading to India next week to score a great film called Ode which was written by LA native Ghalib Dhalia.....and Directed by Neil Lahiri

I am sure I forgot some things...but this is the best update I can give at this time...
hope to hear from you all soon.
thanks
KK

KOVERS

Re Composed, Performed and Produced by Karsh Kale

The 2 featured on MySpace are........

Waiting In Vain (Bob Marley)
featuring Susheela Rahman and Vishal Vaid on vocals
Karsh Kale - keyboards, programming, guitar
Sam Mills - guitar
Zakhm - programming.
mixed by - Zakhm and Karsh Kale
recorded at Globesonic Studios and Zakhm's Place

Spirits In the Material World (the Police)
Karsh Kale on vocals, guitars, prgramming and keyboards.
Yosi Fine on bass and guitars
mixed by -Yosi Fine
recorded and mixed at Exentric Sound BK

Waiting In Vain came about when Fabian Alsultany from Palm Pictures/Globesonic , asked me to re create some Bob Marley songs for a possible upcoming Marley covers album..the theme was to take his songs out of the regea idiom and re tell th stories. One of the songs I chose to do was "Waiting In Vain". Susheela Raman was in town around this time with her super talented guitarist and husband Sam Mills. We decided to get together and in one night we recorded the vocals and guitars.....I then took the recordings to Zakhms studio. It took a minute for us to find the space but soon we arrived and this version was born.

I have been studying the music of the Police and Sting since I was a kid.....I remember being taken by "Spirits" when I was about 7 years old...I had no idea what he was singing about yet found myself empowered by the chorus of vocals....so haunting yet so present...Recently Bob Duskis over at Six Degrees Records called me about a project commemorating the 10 years of Six Degrees records existance....A compilation of covers by there artists. I already decided I wanted to a Police cover and sing on it....I did this one with Yosi Fine (Exentric Sound System) who is a master of low end and sonics.....We just laid it all out in one night..It was fun to sing a song I have been singing almost all my life......I got to send it to Sting.....and he loved it....in his response he wrote " ..you sound like to know what you are singing about" ...I guess I finally got it.

These tracks are not yet released and can only be heard hear on myspace.com
I also have put 9 songs in their entirety on the iSound player. All songs are available for download.

let me know what you think

Upcoming

Just to update you all about what to look out for in the near future. I recently released a remix EP of the Manifest Remix contest winners now out on Six Degrees Records (itunes). There are some killer mixes by some very promising up and coming names in electronica.
Keep an eye out for more Broken English remixes soon.

I also am in the process of completing a killer album that I am doing in collaboration with Anoushka Shankar....It crosses all boundaries and boasts some amazing guests...I can not spill any more than that, but we are very exited....more to come soon...

I will be performing some cool shows, one in SF rocking the Kollektiv vibes with SF's finest Janaka Selektah...then will be jetting over to Tokyo with Bill Laswell for some unpresedented live sessions, then will be rocking over to New Delhi to play some live dates with the Midival Punditz and guests....

I also recently finished a track for an upcoming covers album on Six Degrees Records. It is there 10th anniversary in existance and have artists doing all kinds of great covers....I won't reveal what track I did but I will say that it is an old Police song.

more updates to come
