New version of SPOONFUL!

Hey now, just a little credit where credit is due. I’ve been working a lot in my home studio, and wanted to add this post-mod version of Willie Dixon’s classic "Spoonful" to my profile. I produced and recorded the track in my home studio with Pat Manske, (it started out as a Pro-Tools lesson for me) but we quickly decided to just do a tune. I had always wanted to do Spoonful, usually covered by dudes (excepting Etta James) and put a few twists in there. Pat played drums along with the loop I had recorded for it, and I did the bass and guitars. I thought it would be cool to hear Rachel Loy sing this one, so I sent her the song and she did a few vocal tracks and sent them back to me. CJ Eiriksson is my good friend and he is the one who not only mixes but adds his touch on the sounds to make the stuff I record sound extra fine. I hope you guys like a little Spoonful, and I’ll start putting up some original stuff soon as it’s done. xxKV

KV & The Impossible at the Continental Club 11/15 PIX!!

Yo it was great, some gigs you just stay high from for ages after, and this was one. We had a full house and my gorgeously talented Impossibles that I hand-picked personally for this particular show all were perfect, thank you Johnny Goudie, Rachel Loy, Jason deCorse and Steven : ) One highlight--my drumming debut backing up multi-tasking husband Steven (a true Renaissance man who writes songs, plays nearly every instrument, creates beautiful paintings AND is a full time lawyer for giant corporations) anyway...here's some shots from the night...

RIP Kelly Johnson

My heart is broken at the loss of this kind soul. Kelly rocked like no one could and she was a huge influence for me. We had a couple of great years playing together in the World's Cutest Killers back in '87. Looking thru my stuff I was surprised at all the good press we got. Time flies on and Kelly went and had to get cancer and I didn't get to see much of her during the 90's and 2000's. Her old Girlschool bandmates and pals in the UK made sure she was loved and supported up til the end. What a tragic horrid day to learn she is gone - it is so foolish and idiotic to think there is time - there is no time, there is only now, and MAKE SURE the people you care about know it, every day and every way!! When I went to England at 17 years old and met up with Kim at Waterloo Station carrying my Strat in a Hefty bag to join her new band, I didn't know that a couple of months later Kelly Johnson would walk into the rehearsal room and I'd be out!! I taught them Tush by ZZ Top, they taught me Live Wire by ACDC. Cool chicks thse Girlschool girls. Never stopped rocking and found their place in the music landscape and held on to it. When Kelly and I hooked up later, she was the metal girl with the pop underbelly and I was the pop star from "America's sweetheart" band the Go-Go's who was dying to rock out more! I was lost and confused after the GoG0's broke up in 85 and Kelly was more than a friend, she was like a sister. We were roommates and bandmates, and plain ol mates She deserved to play her guitar til the end of time itself and I really really hate that disease. RIP Kelly I hope you had a peaceful exit from this life. Visit Kelly's Tribute Page and Girlschool's MySpace Page if you want to know more about Kelly's music and life.

Bluebonnets!!

Last week a new, Texas only version of my infamous Bluebonnets played for the first time at Antone's Guitar Gals show...and it was a HUGE success. For those not in the know, the Bluebonnets formed in LA in '92, and quickly became a bit of a sensation. My favorite line-up had Pinky Turzo on vocals, Sherri McGee on drums, me on guitar and Dominique Davalos on bass. Other line-ups followed, with Shannon Moore and GiGi (?) and eventually, in '95 Dominique and I kind of morphed the nucleus (us) into the Delphines. Fast fwd to the present: when asked to play at the Guitar Gals show I thought it would be great to have a Texas based Bluebonnets, so quickly enlisted Dominique of course. Pinky and Sherri couldn't make the gig, so we found Eve Monsees, who blows me away, she is just lovely and rocks and I can't say enough good things about Eve, and drummer Nina Singh, who is way in demand and plays with tons of bands, including Adrian and the Sickness (see my Top Friends) - who I produced a rad version of Radar Love with - more on that later - anyway, we had a blast, ended up doing a mixed bag of covers, and some Delphine's stuff to fill it out. Next show is opening for Storyville at Antones on July 14th, this one has Kristy McInnis coming out to play drums with us, so it should be outragous cool. Can't wait. Future gigs will have a flexible and probably ever changing line-up, there's a lot of talent around this town and I hope to have different people sitting in and being featured. Pinky and Sherri will even make it one of these days I hope! Here's a couple of pics from the Guitar Gals show.
